Първолакът си избра тази книга на 3 март и оттогава вечерно време двамата решавахме загадките в нея. На всеки две страници беше позициониран отделен етаж или по-малко помещение от въпросната Лабиринтена кула. Сред десетки човешки фигурки, обекти, мебели, предмети от интериора и пр. трябва да откривате различни богатства (купи, сандъчета, златни звезди) или конкретни персонажи, на които да свършите някаква услуга, като същевременно вървите през овъртени лабиринти по петите на тайнствения злосторник Господин Х. Наистина брилянтен тренинг на наблюдателността, какъвто може да замисли само азиатски ум. Абсолютна мания и зарибявка, без майтап! Горещо препоръчвам за екипна работа между родители и челяд. И със сигурност ще вземем и останалите книги от серията.

It was a little bit much for me in one sitting, but I would have loved this as a kid.

Náhodně objevená super hledací a docela náročná knížka velkého formátu, spíše pro starší děti (za nás 6+), ale s menší úpravou pravidel klidně i menší děti. Zabavíme se u ní všichni, od nás jedno velké doporučení.

Hosszú órákra (több részletben, nyugi) lekötötte a hét és fél évest és engem is, egészen el tudtunk veszni benne. Az ötlet, a rajz, az egész zseniális. Egyetlen problémám van vele, hogy a rajzokon rengeteg feliratot, segítő utalást és poént nem fordítottak le. Angolul értők nem maradnak ki semmiből, a többiek sajnos igen. Persze van, amit nem is lehetett, például , de ha a „cél” szót át tudták írni minden oldalon, akkor a számtalan „this way”, „when nothing goes right, go left” és hasonlók is megérdemelték volna. Persze ezek sokszor szintén inkább a rajz részei, és ha megnézzük, hogy néz ki a „cél” szó… Azért ez a hihetetlenül igényes kiadvány megérdemelné akár a szövegek rendes megrajzolását magyarul, szerintem.

What a visual feast for the eyes! I can see why IC4Design collective of illustrators have received many accolades. The illustrations beautifully reflect the “Jazz Age” in New York City. The art deco feel to them is amazing. The story follows Pierre and Carmen, two young detectives, through various mazes which make up the different floors of the Empire Maze Tower. Their goal is to stop Mr. X who wants to steal the Tower’s secret treasure. The large spreads have amazing details and there are instructions to navigate each maze. There are other challenges and rewards to be collected in each page also. The text though is secondary to the illustrations but the two complement each other superbly. This one would make a terrific gift! *Please note I received a free review copy of this book

De zoekboeken van Pierre de Doolhofdetective zijn allesbehalve makkelijk. Ik waag me er dan ook niet aan. Maar wat zitten ze goed in elkaar. Elke dubbele pagina bestaat uit een zeer complexe illustratie met standaard een aantal figuren die je moet zoeken. Maar daarnaast moet je ook lezen om de juiste route door het doolhof te vinden, krijg je allerlei extra zoekopdrachten per plaat erbij, moet je niet alleen de hindernis van Mr. X oplossen, maar ook de vragen van de andere personages oplossen en loop je soms tegen een blokkade op en dan zijn er soms ! verschillende alternatieven voor je route. Vind dan maar eens de KORTSTE! En als klap op de vuurpijl heeft dit deel ook nog Puzzelpagina's met kleinere doolhoven en extra opdrachten die je moet oplossen voordat je verder kunt, want dit zijn aanwijzingen die je nodig hebt voor het volgende doolhof. Geweldig! Ik ben al blij als ik de bordjes Start en Einde heb kunnen vinden 😀.

Oh my, this book is so beautiful. Every page is detailed and intricate, with numerous mazes and puzzles to solve, and things to find.
For example, the spread for the Main Lobby asks you to solve the maze to chase Mr X (the "baddie" you have to stop from stealing the Maze Cube and plunging the city into darkness); avert panic by finding the five purple alarm clocks that Mr X has set to go off; find five gold stars, five red trophies and two green treasure chests (these items appear on every page spread in different quantities); help out the receptionist by catching the dog that's run off with someone's hat, and finding the father and child wearing red cloaks to guide them to the exit; and find the famous sculptor whose work is to be unveiled - "he has curly blond hair and a fantastic pink suit".
The art deco illustrative style is gorgeous. This book kept me entertained for ages, and I'm an adult! Child-me would have been enthralled for years, and returned to the book again and again.

Filled with mazes and objects to find, delightful pictures and mysteries to solve, this is a great book for adults and children alike. My four year old grandson who pretty much has the attention span of a gnat, was totally enthralled with this book. I figured he'd be interested for about 10-15 minutes but he literally was captivated for hours as we worked through each page together, trying to find hidden objects. He even tried to complete the mazes which are quite challenging. I really enjoyed this book!

I came for the illustrations. I didn't realize the level of storytelling that would be involved or all the other little puzzles and clues to find. One of the best seek and find books that I have seen. Then I found out that it was part of a series? I will be looking for more!

Beautiful illustrations set in the 1920s. Way more intricate and challenging then Waldo. Very engrossing for children and adults.

Such an interesting book. Each page has a maze you need to find your way through. And other things to find on the page. Reminds me of Where's Waldo, but it's different.

I do love a good puzzle book, takes me right back to my childhood where I would get them out from the library but never truly had the patience to properly read them and look for each and every item, including the extra bits! This is only a small series of 3 books and they caught my eye with their beautiful illustrations, plus I love the concept of the maze detective! Sometimes I look at the clues and feel they were a bit vague and surely there could be a number of people matching that description, but each and every time when I saw the answer it was plain as day and I had no doubt I'd found the correct thing/ person.

November 24, 2017Ondanks dat ik het eerste boek (Op zoek naar de gestolen doolhofsteen) niet 100% leuk vond, moest ik toch dit boek uitproberen!
Ik ben het op veel punten wederom eens met mijn review voor het eerste boek. Zoals dat de doolhoven onmogelijk zijn op te lossen. Net zoals bij het eerste boek gaf ik het al spoedig op.
Van mijn review voor het vorige boek:"Waarom zijn de doolhoven zo onmogelijk? Je hebt wel een soort van pad wat je kan zien (er is een streep die door van alles loopt die lichter is), maar verder is het vaak heel lastig om te zien of je echt langs iets kan. Of die route nou wel of niet geldig is, vaak lopen namelijk de lichte strepen gewoon door dingen heen of net er langs, maar lijkt het net of je daar niet langs kan gaan.

Ik denk dat kinderen het misschien nog moeilijker gaan hebben. Het is gewoon vaak niet duidelijk te zien of je ergens wel of niet mag zijn, en het is ook erg druk en er is erg veel te zien. Heel leuk, maar het leidt ook zeker af en voegt ook toe aan de onduidelijkheid van het doolhof."
Heel jammer, want tja, je komt toch ook wel een beetje voor die doolhoven. Gelukkig zijn er ook wat kleinere doolhofjes die wel makkelijk op te lossen zijn.
Gelukkig, net zoals het vorige boek, is er nog genoeg te doen en te zien als je geen zin hebt in onmogelijke doolhoven. :P Dit keer is Meneer X weer bezig en hij wil een Kubus stelen. We zien hem op weg naar het gebouw, en dan vervolgens door het hele gebouw heen lopen/rennen. Elke pagina heeft een nieuw stukje verhaal, maar ook leuke puzzels, verzoekjes, en andere dingen. En als je die klaar hebt, nou, dan is er nog genoeg te zien. Ik lag regelmatig dubbel om wat er nou allemaal gebeurde op de platen. Van skeletten, boze apen, glijbanen en chaos in slaapkamers, tot feestjes en snoep. Ja, de illustrator had veel plezier met het invullen van deze platen. Geweldig gedaan!
En dit boek is ook perfect voor de komende Kerst-periode. Vooral de stukken in de toren, we zien de kerstman op verschillende plekken, we zien kadootjes, kerstfeestjes, en meer. Heerlijk!
1 puntje wat apart was. Er is niks vertaald van de bordjes op de gebouwen, boten, etc. Wat dus erg verwarrend is als er wordt verteld dat je naar de Grote Doolhoftoren moet, terwijl die dus onvertaald staat: Empire Maze Building. Wel jammer gegeven de doelgroep kinderen zijn, en ook al zullen die al iets van Engels kunnen, ik vrees dat ze misschien niet zullen doorhebben dat dit hetzelfde ding is. Ik kan me voorstellen dat het misschien niet erg mooi is als je alles wel zou vertalen, maar ja, hou dan de namen in het verhaal ook onvertaald.
Aan het einde staan, net als het eerdere boek, weer de oplossingen voor de puzzels, en ook de conclusie voor het verhaal + nog een paar meer puzzels.
Dus ja, wederom zou ik dit boek niet aanraden voor de doolhoven, maar wel voor het verhaal, de puzzels, de prachtige gedetailleerde platen.
