Still struggling with his recent breakup, Alexander runs headlong—literally—into a witch who leaves him far less than human. Now a wise-cracking cat with a taste for expensive clothes, he is forced to live with the ex he can't get over and help the man find someone who will finally make him happy.
Okay, I really don't use this word at all, but... this short story was goddamn PRECIOUS.
Alex, the once-human housecat, was full of piss and vinegar. The consummate cat, nearly every word out of his mouth was pure snark. But not in a mean or hurtful way. Highly entertaining, though.
And Ethan was just a laid-back, adorkable guy with a heart of gold, content to run his bakery, watch out for his 3 little sisters, and oh yeah, spend all of his free time with a talking cat. Who wears designer clothes. And wants boots for Christmas.
The writing was funny and touching, without feeling that it was trying too hard. And the scene with the crow, God, I wanted a complete blow-by-blow on that one.
Crow fight!
And when Alex convinced Ethan's suitor that the talking cat (wearing a Prada vest, thank you) was a bad-shrimp-induced hallucination... Priceless.
At only around 60 pages, I truly enjoyed every single word and wished this story were three times as long, so I'd rate this one very high, at 4.5 stars for pure, fluffy enjoyment alone.

My ARC copy of the story was provided by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.
This was a tremendously cute story, with adorable Alexander and gorgeous Ethan.
Their banter was hilarious to read and the secondary characters all left their place in my memory. I only wish the ending could have been longer and more romantic... that's all... But a really good story.
What can I say folks? I NEVER read M&M. But this little novella had a cat. A CAT. An honest to goodness I-used-to-be-a-guy-until-a-witch-turned-me-into-a-cat cat. I’m always looking for a new addition to my pussy shelf so how could I resist? Alex is in cat form for 98% of the story though, so I should probably create a M&pussy shelf. But that could lead to all kinds of misunderstandings, right?
But I digest…
Alex is the perfect cross between a superior, finicky, snarky feline who insists on wearing Prada, and the superior, finicky, snarky dick he used to be (and who probably insisted on wearing Prada too). Ethan is a gentle giant baker who loves his cat (NOT that way, you pervs). You can tell that they belong together, even if it takes them a while to figure it out, but what can their future be?
This story is sweet, funny, poignant, and fairy tale-like. I really enjoyed it. I needed something to distract myself from thoughts of Mother’s day (my Mom is long gone) and this charmer did the trick for an hour.
Enjoy! (note: A kiss or 2 but no sex, for those who can’t read about M&M’s).
This is an adorable little fable. It’s about a man named Alex who was turned into a talking cat by an irate witch. He’s been this way for a few years when the book begins and is living the cat life with his ex-boyfriend Ethan. Ethan was kind enough to take him in even though they were already broken up at the time because Alex was sassy, sarcastic, self-centered and snobby and an all-around dreadful boyfriend. Oh wait, he’s still all of those things! Except he’s no longer the boyfriend (that’d be too weird even for me) and now that he’s a cat, he makes good company for Ethan who prefers to stay in and watch tv after a long day of work. But Alex doesn’t want Ethan to turn into some lonely, antisocial cat man.
Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .
Still, it’s time for Ethan to put himself out there and find a boyfriend– even if the thought of Ethan with another man makes Alex a little queasy.
This story is simply delightful. If you are not a fan of m/m romances because most tend to be heavy on the angst and the sex, this is one that isn’t like the rest. It’s sweet and funny and I really enjoyed the characters. I think it will charm even those who think their heart is dead (not that I’d know anything about that . . .)
There is so much fun dialogue packed into this little novella but I think this line from Ethan describing cat Alex’s faults was my favorite.
"You also yell at the pigeons outside, watch too many cooking shows, and have a blog entirely dedicated to pictures of yourself."
Honestly, the only thing I’d change about this book is the cover. This is a book that features a talking cat who wears designer clothing and it has a generic cup of coffee on its cover? A pretty cup of coffee, sure, but seriously, what is up with that? So much opportunity squandered! I say ignore the cover and picture any of these dapper fellows on the cover instead.
This is another impulsive purchase (after I saw a review at one of blog reviewer sites) that made it worth while. I thought Puss in Prada by a new-to-me author, Marie Jacquelyn, to be ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL.
I think short stories/short novellas are always tricky, especially with a magical plot like this -- Alex is turned into a cat by a witch! -- but Jacquelyn was able to pull it off. What charmed me the most was Alex's snarky voice. He was so perfect as as a cat with disdain towards all humans (except darling Ethan of course). I could totally imagine his haughty expression -- especially when he hissed towards people trying to pet him.
Since the romance was basically a continuation of Alex and Ethan's previous relationship -- they were boyfriends, Ethan broke it off several months before Alex was turned into a cat, but then he took Alex in (as a cat) -- it also worked in this short time-span because there was no instant-love or instant-connection. Alex and Ethan HAD a connection ... and they basically lived together for the past three years, even if Alex was in his cat form.
I had all the FUN reading this... and at one point, when Alex remembered the time when he was cursed, I got all choked up. It was a satisfying read for me.
The only thing I wish being included is the EPIC BATTLE between Alex and the mail-stealing crow. I think that would be awesome.
This was a cute story of what happens when "your" self absorbed self gets turned into a cat by an annoyed witch! lol Are there more of those witches? I don't know, the witch is not really a character in this novel... Note to self: try to not run down people... because you never know. o_O
Alex is now a cat. A cat who wears clothes, because "hello, I'm naked down here", and who lives with his ex boyfriend. The ex boyfriend is pretty much a saint, because Alex was already annoying as f***k when he was not a cat. Now? He's impossible. And he sheds. You should read this :D
*I received this book from Less Than Three Press and Netgalley in return for a fair review.*
I wanted to read this short story ever since I saw it listed among the 'coming soon' stories over on Less Than Three Press' website. I wan't really sure what it was about beyond the 'Puss in Boots'/'Puss in Prada' angle and I think I knew it involved a guy who got transformed into a cat.
And so I excitedly read the story when I saw I could. And I was very happy to have been able to do so. Not sure how everyone else might feel about the story (though I saw while going to the review box that the story currently has a 5 star average rating (though that might be based on 1, or 3 ratings)), but I really liked it. Loved it.
There is one point of view and two main characters - both of whom live in the same apartment (not actually sure it's an apartment, but I'll go with that). Ethan and Alex dated at some point, as humans. But at some point before the start of this story, six months?, they broke up. Ethan runs the family pastry store and is quite good at it, at baking and stuff. Alex? Alex is a very successful writer and . . . very much a dick who didn't take care of himself and seemed destined for an early grave.
Despite breaking up about six months ago, the two currently live together. There's a reason for that, of course. And that reason is . . . . Alex got turned into a cat by a witch. No, really, a cat. Luckily for him, he can still talk and was able to get Ethan to help him. And so Alex spends his days being a cat, occasionally texting Ethan, occasionally attempting to continue be a writer (on the internet, no one knows you are a cat . . . or on the computer typing a book one letter at a time).
Alex, who at some point I should mention is the POV, and Ethan have a neat little situation going on. They are quite fun to watch together. Great characterization/dynamic.
Loved the story. Want to read more cat based stories. Would write more but this is a short story we are talking about so it's hard not to accidentally reveal everything while bumbling along in a review, so I'll cut that part of the review short.

Merged review:
Considering how competent, interesting, and well-written this story here is, and how it is the only thing out under this name, I assume two things – that the author either publishes under at least one other name, and/or has written some fanfiction stuff (though nothing about the story screams ‘fanfiction graduate’ – as in, none of the little habits of fanfiction authors snuck into this story here). At least, I hope there are other stuff out by this author, because I’ve rather liked what I’ve seen so far.
This is the second time I’ve read this specific short story about the talking cat. It has a lot going for it – a good solid story with everything you might desire for a solid story (except for sex, but we are talking about a talking cat here).
The story is relatively simple to explain: prior to the start of this story, a man of 25 has spent his life doing massive amounts of drugs, drinking, not taking his medication (never explained what exactly the medication was for), and being a real asshole of a man and boyfriend. One night, on the way home from a party during which the man had consumed a large quantity of alcohol, some or all of which was ‘probably laced with something’, the man almost drives over a woman. He misses and attempts to go help her. She promptly curses him. Because, you know, that happens and stuff. Whereupon he was turned into a cat. He’s able to get help from his ex-boyfriend, despite a) ex-boyfriend; b) being a cat and attempting to be said cat while using the phone. Oh, right, he retained the ability to speak English (well, I should say that he retained his language skills, whatever they might have been previous to the transformation).
That man, Alexander, has spent the last few years as a cat living with that ex-boyfriend previously mentioned but not named (he being the fabulously well-muscled and tall Ethan). He’s retained his personality and ability to write (poorly, slowly, one letter poked at a time), which is important because he was a successful author before being turned into a cat, and is still able to write books – at least two of which have appeared since being turned into a cat (though he hasn’t been writing much lately – his agent is constantly screaming at him).
I’m not sure what I’d think of this story if it was altered somehow. As in, if it was Alex the human and Ethan the human – with Alex maybe living with Ethan because of some illness or something. But as a cute fluffy kitty-cat, his personality is perfect for kitty, and there’s a fun story to be found and read.
Great story, but just a tiny bit missing so it doesn’t rise to the top level of things I’ve read more than once (as in, the exclusive six star shelf), but a quite good story none-the-less.
In a word, adorable. Our story begins with Alex the writer being threatened by his agent to get his overdue chapters to her. Good thing he’s a writer, because “On the internet, no one knows you’re a cat.” He’s a “…medium-sized cat wearing a tailored Prada shirt…” He can talk, type his novels, get finicky about what he eats and hang out with his ex-boyfriend, Ethan. While Alex as a cat is the cutest, the star of the story for me is Ethan. He’s so lovely. He is a baker who hangs out around the house in ugly underwear talking to and taking care of the cat/ex-boyfriend. While Alex is full of snark, Ethan is kindness and loyalty wrapped in a flowered headband-wearing baker. I loved him. Alex has been a cat for three years and Ethan had broken up with him six months before that. It’s time Ethan had someone to call his own, Alex figures, and tries to do some matchmaking with Mr. Sticky Bun. It is during his “Ethan needs someone” that Alex is realizing how bad he was for Ethan before and starts thinking he is an “…obligation born out of guilt” now. This was just so endearing from start to finish. A fight with a crow while defending the mailbox, embarrassment to be taken from the vet without his designer clothes on “Don’t look at me; I’m naked,” (I admit I laughed that that, he is a cat after all) and best of all, the realization of what Alex had and lost and how to regain it. A definite pick-me-up that made me smile.
This was an ok little story but I really didn't like the MC that much. He honestly got on my nerves but I liked his ex-boyfriend which I don't blame him for getting rid of him. But Hey everything worked out in the end.
I'm not even going to lie.... I teared up a few times. My heart actually broke a little for Ethan and Alexander.
That all being said. Alexander was adorable as a cat. With his little outfits and "regal-esque" cat ways. The fact he got into a fight with a crow over mail and trying to get his ex/roommate to try and start dating other guys so at least one of them had a life.
I also liked his cover story and he fact that he as a cat, who wrote books..
It's super short but incredibly sweet, if not a little sad at times, with a pretty funny HEA
If you’re in the mood for something VERY different and VERY funny and a little bit sweet – this is for you!
Alexander somehow ends up as a cat – who can talk and reason like a human. He runs back to his EX boyfriend for sanctuary and what we find is the two of them living as an old “married” couple three years later.
Alex wants Ethan, the Ex, to “move on” and find a new boyfriend – or does he?
Highly enjoyable and funny with a cute cast of characters and a HEA.

Wow! I loved this one. It was just...ugh...so brilliant.
Okay, so at first I was really confused, because the blurb makes it sound like we follow Alex straight from being cursed right through to finding his ex and being a cat, but that's not what happens at all. The story starts with Alex already having been a cat for three years and maintaining a human life virtually, while living a cat life in reality.
The way that Alex continues his reclusive writing career is great. I did doubt why he had to type on letter at a time, however, when the first page shows us that he can send a text with lots of words in the space of less than a minute, which I presume means that he has speech-to-text. And I kind of wonder why he didn't use that for writing, but that's a little niggle that isn't that important.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Alex and Ethan and how they were like an old married couple. The way Ethan took care of him – at the vet, within their life and meeting all of his emotional needs – was beautiful. It was obvious right from the beginning that Ethan seriously loved Alex in all the ways that mattered.
There were some seriously emotional parts where I cried over Alex telling the story of how he became a cat and how he thought he was an awful boyfriend to Ethan, then when Ethan talked about why they broke up. There were some truly heart-tugging moments that I loved and some parts where the banter between the pair was just so normal and reminiscent of two people who knew each other inside and out that it was just beautiful. I even loved Alex's sarcastic nature and the snark he let loose so often. Even the fight with the crow was kind of hilarious.
Overall, I just loved everything about it. The slow telling of the story through dialogue and Alex's thoughts, the talk Alex had with Hakin and the way that he put his own needs and wants aside to try to give Ethan a full, happy life. The ending was especially perfect and I'll happily read it again when I need a pick me up read.

Favourite Quote
““Lay off man, one wink doesn't make me engaged to him or anything. Maybe he had something in his eye. Like me. How do you shed so much?” “I just want to share my fluffy love with the world. It's a gift that I mostly limit to you.””
“On the internet, no one knows you're a cat. No one knows anything about you at all. They don't know how quiet you house is because no one else is home. They don't know how long you've already spent pacing, wondering, waiting. They don't know that your heart is breaking.”
Puss in Prada was adorable and playful just like a cat.
In this case a very intelligent author who happened to be turned into a cat. And a laid back baker named Ethan. Oh and they were ex's.
Marie Jacquelyn made this short story a must read by adding humor, magic, and of course LOVE! I am new to this author, but I am eager for more. The characters were opposites, but were a good balance for each other. Alex and Ethan were broken up and now had to deal with something.. Alex was now a CAT. One drunken night and an accident later, Alex's life became a blur. He didn't have the same appearance, but he didn't lose his voice. He made a phone call to his ex Ethan. Ethan didn't plan to answer, but he couldn't ignore the once love of his life. Their journey together was magical.
Ethan and Alex had to deal with loving one another in a different way. Would they be allowed to love each other as animal to human? Would the spell ever be broken. This read was super fun and was a quick read. I loved the humor and fight's Alex had with crow..yes a crow. I really loved the relationship between the two. Marie Jacquelyn was able to take a fairy-tale and give it a twist. Would true love's kiss break the spell? You just have to read to find out!
Cats can do no wrong in my book. Throw in a cat somewhere in a story and I'm typically sold. But Alex isn't your typical cat. After getting turned into one, he's as prissy as ever, insisting on designer wear, barely tolerates stupidity and yet remains the most self-sustaining cat I've ever read about.
'Puss in Prada' is so unique, so heartbreakingly funny and bittersweet that I was way too sorry when it ended. It's also way too short for my liking because I was enjoying every minute of the snide, quirky and cute story told from the POV of a man-cat, who simply needed to learn some things about himself before that spell got broken.
For something so short though, Marie Jacquelyn does in many ways, capture the 'tao' of cats. I saw Alex superimposed over a cat and a cat's prideful but independent ways superimposed over Alex's own personality. I loved Alex as much as I loved Ethan, then got depressed when their story ended in a rushed HEA.
This is a weird one because when I got it on netgalley I thought it'd be a novel, but turns out it is a novella (or a novellete? idk)? And I think my experience was a bit affected by it, but well, now it's too late.
I'm not sure of what to think of this book, too. Since it's short, there is no time to develop the characters or their relationships. I did like the MC though, and reading this story wasn't a bad experience. I just wish it had been a novel. Everything would've been much better if it was imo. As it is, the author didn't have the time (again, imo) to do much and I finished Puss in Prada with the impression that I got only a glimpse of the real story.
This was such a spunky and fun twist on the classic Puss-in-Boots. Heck, the puss in questions was even self aware enough to make the comparison! Alex is snarky and sarcastic and does not love being a cat. But as it is what he is stuck being he has made a life as a hermit author in his ex-boyfriend's house. Ethan, the ex-boyfriend is question, is sweet, caring, laid-back, and yet not willing to put up with any crap from Alex. In this short we learn about the tumultuous relationship they have had together, the changes they have gone through, the last three years, and the way it is now. Alex is determined to get Ethan back out in the dating world and sets him up on a date which is all sorts of hilarious. But remember, even off kilter a fairy tail comes down to one thing....excellent short!
This story was very cute. The characters were interesting and different enough (I especially loved Alex's description of Ethan's sisters). I liked the reason why they broke up because it was a completely valid reason at the time but at the same time, you cheer when they get back together! The only reason why I gave it four stars is because I thought it ended rather abruptly? A scene at the end where the witch sees Alexander again or he sees Ethan's family again would have been nice. But otherwise it was really fun to read.
Beyond adorable! Purrfect! It was short and the only reason I hated that is because this story is so cute and amazing I could read a billion more pages of it. Light-no angst. Really cute. Alex has just the right level of attitude. The fact that he can talk (not only made things so much easier for him, thankfully) reminds me of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Happy ending, an ex-couple who really love each other. This read was PURRfect.
I loved the first person POV and Alex had me I stitches. His internal dialogue was hilarious and I loved the banter between him and Ethan. It was funny, light-hearted and yet there was also that tender sombre moment in the rain that really tugged at my heartstrings. I would have loved for the book to be slightly longer, to give a nice epilogue of sorts.
This was the best short story I have read in a very long time, bearing in mind that this format is not my cup of tea. Even so, I enjoyed every word, laughed out loud and was incredibly invested in the protagonists' happiness. And I wanted more, while still considering this story a satisfying read.
The plot was unique. A guy gets himself turned into a cat by an angry witch and he ends up living with his ex because he doesn't have any other options. It's low angst and a bit sweet and a bit funny. It wasn't a bad book by any means but it just didn't quiet work for me. I didn't really appreciate the humor and I didn't feel any connection/romance between the two MC's.
I think overall it was well written and probably will be a very good book for a lot of people. One of those cases of "It's not you, it's me."
**review copy provided by publisher though Netgalley**
OMG. I've just spent an hour on the verge of tears while reading about a man who's been turned into a cat! Sweet and melancholy. Don't expect sexy times. But you do get a lovely fairy tale with a wisecracking cat. Loved it.
Rating: 2/5 Feels: 😑😐 One Liner: I think I'm very particular in what I find funny - and this wasn't it (personal preference) Rec: If you like funny books with snappy characters then I think you will like this short story, I found one of the MCs to be OTT and I guess that is the point.
