Cajun Crazy is my first dive into the Cajun pool that Sandra Hill creates. Following Simon LeDeuex and Adam Lanier, and their intense heat, this is not a book that I will forget soon. I loved the pace of the story that kept me intrigued while not moving so fast that I got lost in it. And all the secondary characters that were entwined throughout this book have me ready to go back and read all the books I've missed in the series.

the chemistry between Simone and Adam is what had my focus the most. I really enjoyed their banter and that sexual tension that was always right on the surface. These characters were just very easy to like and I was actually sad to see them get their HEA, only because it meant the book was over and I had to move on. Not for long though because I will definitely be keeping up with this author.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

After catching her boyfriend cheating on her, Simone decides to fall into her mother's guilt trip and goes back home to take care of her after her knee surgery. For a woman with three failed marriages to Cajun to men, her hometown in Louisiana is a dangerous ground zero.
After Adam's wife dies, he and his daughter move in with his father. As a lawyer and half Cajun, he never has a problem with the ladies.
Simone and Adam have hot and spicy chemistry but with deep trust issues on both sides, their happily ever after will be a battle.

There was something about a man who could say darlin' in a husky, slow croon that could make any girl melt.

The eleventh installment in Sandra Hill's Cajun series is chalk full of the wild, fun, and spicy elements we've come to expect. There are numerous previous characters making big appearances here and some character history that would be very helpful to know. You wouldn't need to have read all the stories in the series but a couple would greatly enhance your enjoyment of this book.

Our heroine Simone is a cop who is tough and capable but has a weakness for Cajun men. Her three marriages burned hot but flamed out quickly and with her last boyfriend cheating on her, she is trying to swear off men, specifically Cajun men. I liked Simone with her tough vulnerability.

Our hero Adam stayed in his marriage even after he found out his wife wanted to be in an open relationship because he didn't want to maybe lose his daughter. After his wife dies, he likes to keep things only casual with women. Adam was at turns sexy, strong, and sensitive.

Cajun Crazy had a fun wild tempo with crazy characters (if you're a reader of the series, you know Tante Lulu steals the show a lot) and antics. So much so, that the romance kind of played second fiddle. Hill has created such a strong world, that the town and characters steal the spotlight. Simone and Adam didn't spend as much time together as I typically like and as a consequence I felt their relationship lacked depth; when the "I love you" statements come, they didn't seem believable.

I also had personal dislike moments with Adam's comments/thinking that his wife was a slut because she wanted an open relationship or because she liked less than conventional bedroom antics. As everyone was of age and consensual, it felt extremely judgmental and a simple not for me or hurt and angry that he felt lied to by his wife would have had Adam coming off better. Adam's thinking occasional spills over on to Simone when he thinks she also sleeps around and again we have quick slut-shaming. It all gave me an uncomfortable and icky feeling.

The ending had a bit of a meaningless danger moment but the overall story was fast paced and had a plethora of interesting characters to follow along with. The romance was a bit weaker but if you're a frequent reader of the series, you'll greatly enjoy visiting these wild, crazy, and loving Cajuns.

A Cajun playboy who was a devoted single father? The deck was stacked against her.

Loud, loveable, amazing cajun charm and just a little wild and crazy chemistry goes a long way to making Cajun Crazy a flat-out fun contemporary romance from the amazing Sandra Hill! It is a feel good, put a smile on your face read that any book lover can't resist.

I received this ARC copy of Cajun Crazy from Avon. This is my honest and voluntary review. Cajun Crazy is set for publication November 28, 2017.

I love a good romance, especially the ones Avon puts out, so I couldn't resist picking up Cajun Crazy. While this is book 11 in the series, I decided to pick it up without reading the previous books for a fun, crazy romance.

After three failed marriages, Simone LeDeux is back home living with her mom as she recovers from a knee injury. Even after living in Chicago, Simone realizes her one true vice is Cajun men and is determined to swear them off as she opens up her own investigative business where she finds cheaters and puts them in their place through the court of law. Single dad and lawyer Adam Lanier is intrigued the moment he lays eyes on Simone, but he's out of luck when she tells him she's sworn off Cajun men. That doesn't stop him from flirting and thinking about her 24/7. When Simone needs his help with her business, Adam doesn't hesitate to come to her aid. The more time they spend together, the more sparks fly, and the harder Simone finds it to resist another Cajun man…

When I first started this book, I was immediately bombarded with SO MANY CHARACTERS. I thought I could go into this as a standalone, which I guess you can, but so many characters came in and out of the storyline and it was so hard to keep track of. I think if I had read a few of the previous books, I would find it easier to jump into this world. What made this so hard to follow was that even though Simone and Adam are our main characters, the POV was 3rd person and would switch between so many different characters in a limited POV (meaning we followed them and only had their minds/perspective through a narrator for that chapter). What bothered me was that in the middle of a chapter, it would switch to follow another character. I really am not a fan when books do this, so it was hard to feel connected to our main couple when the plot was jumping around between other characters so much.

While this book was definitely unique in the sense that it had some pretty crazy and outrageous characters, the craziness felt too crazy at times. The author took Cajun to the extreme and it was hard for me to take the characters seriously, especially Simone's mom and aunt. I feel like this was purposeful, but I just wasn't a fan and found the accents pretty irritating. While the romance and storyline had the potential of being really intriguing and enjoyable, there were too many aspects that were distracting me from actually enjoying the story. I love a good mystery and cop romance (Simone used to be a cop in Chicago), but this took a lot of focus on my part and I didn't connect with the main couple as much as I wanted to.

Love this series and love this family. The series is full of Cajun Crazy and the loves of the LeDuex family. Tante Lulu is the matriarch of this family of LeDuex offspring and an absolutely wonderful, colorful character. When she and St. Jude team up there is no stopping the old Thunderbolt of Love from finding its' target. Romance and humor with a touch of mystery/suspense - catnip to me. Nothing better.

Simone LeDeux is another of the illegitimate children of that SOB Valcour LeDuex. She has made her career as a cop and loves not living in the bayou where everybody knows everybody's business. Her mother's surgery and lengthy rehilibation is dragging her back. If Simone is honest, she is getting tired of the crime and impersonal existence in Chicago and is ready for a change. Her biggest problem with living is Cajun Country is Cajun Men. They are like catnip to her and it always ends badly.

When her best friend, an attorney, suggests they open a "cheaters" style agency, Simone is onboard. Legal Belles will uncover cheating spouses. After three failed marriages, Simone knows a thing or two about that. Her number one rule: No Cajun Men.

Until, however, she meets Adam Lanier. His number one rule: Don't mix his personal life (sex mates) with his Family (young daughter). But we all know rules are made to be broken. When Simone gets mixed up with a situation Adam knows to be dangerous, he goes all Cajun Caveman to get her out of that situation. However, Simone, being an ex-cop, doesn't appreciate his efforts and we have a Cajun Standoff.

Sometimes I'm just in the mood for good old southern romance, and luckily, Sandra Hill's Cajun Crazy, the latest addition to her Cajun series, hit the spot just right. Amply laden with feisty banter, steamy romance, and "awww!" moments, Cajun Crazy shows just how fun the Louisiana Bayou can be!

Cajun Crazy features the alternating POVs of Simone and Adam.

Simone has always been a wild card when it comes to love. She's been married and divorced three times but what can she say? She just can't resist cajun men - she's cajun crazy! While relationships may not be her forte, she's sharp, fearless, and savvy when it comes to her business. I liked Simone from the get-go. She was hilarious and charming. Her relationship with her mother always had me laughing out loud, especially when her mother was constantly trying to butt into her love life. Gosh, nothing would stop that woman from setting Simone up. Additionally, I loved seeing Simone in the zone for work.

Adam has been burned by love too. Recently widowed, Adam has sworn off serious relationships and chosen instead to focuses on his adorable daughter. However, everything changes the moment Simone lands in his path. Suddenly, he's willing to take that chance again. Adam was incredibly likable as well. His relationship with his daughter and father was heartwarming, and I especially loved when his daughter doled out the sass - she always had me laughing out loud. I could also understand why he was so willing to give up on love. His past relationship with his wife was incredibly twisted to put it lightly. However, as soon as he meet Simone, I could see something positive happening there, and throughout the novel, I wished Adam and Simone would see it as well - they were just so funny and adorable together!

The plot in this included romance, sleuthing, and normal small town hijinks. The romance was steamy and well developed. I especially liked how Sandra took a slow-burn approach to it. It kept me on my toes! The sleuthing brought some mystery and suspense to the table. I really enjoyed Adam and Simone's cases, especially when it put them on opposite sides. Last but not least, the small town! What a crazy yet fun place! It was eccentric to say the least.

The only aspect that brought this book down a notch or two in my yes was all the southern slang used. It took a while to get used to; however, by the end, I grew accustom to it and saw that it did add some charm to the book.

In all, Cajun Crazy is a fun and slightly twisty romance read, and given the warm setting, it's the perfect read for the chilly days of winter!

I was introduced to some of these characters in her now completed A Deadly Angels Book (7 Book Series) which was one of my favorite guilty pleasures. This more down to Earth spin-off has not had the same attraction but is not bad. This installment has added a wee bit more mystique to Tante Lulu but the basic thing is it was a 3.5/4 Star reading. Great story and told wonderfully but the places she could have really added to the story by adding some needed drama she failed a bit IMHO. Also some very minor plotlines were never really closed out. Still enjoy the series and will read them but when you have to tell people her books about Viking Vampire Angels are her best work they think you are crazy :)

This story had it moments of humor in addition to dealing with some serious issues but it was so full of details from what they are eating to history of every character. It's nice to see previous series characters but more involved in the action of the new story. Ex-cop Simone moves back home to New Orleans determined to avoid Cajun men when she meets attorney and single father Adam.

description

Having just moved away from New Orleans, I thought Cajun Crazy would be a good read to test my homesickness for Louisiana. Nola to Arizona was a big move for me, so I am still adjusting to the differences of living outside the South. I have not read the 10 preceding Cajun books, but I tripped along just fine and didn't feel like I was missing vital information or backstory.

Simone LeDeux is an independent heroine who has been unlucky in love, a fact she attributes to her weakness for Cajun men. After another failed romance and her mother's knee surgery, Simone leaves the police force in Chicago and returns home to the bayou in Louisiana. Though this time she won't be returning to law enforcement, and will instead being opening a private investigation and legal services firm with her gal pal, Helene. Simone's disastrous love life resonated with me, even despite me not having the long list of failed marriages. I totally understood her being attracted to the wrong guys and being utterly disappointed when they showed their true colors. I also commended her for stepping out on the ledge to take a chance on a new career - which I was comparing to my own move across the country. It's all about new adventures and fearless females.

Adam Lanier is a single dad and legal beagle known around the town as the Bayou Barrister. While I was hoping to connect to him as a fellow lawyer, I couldn't relate to his legal antics. They reminded me of a swamp version of Denny Crane from Boston Legal (one of my favorite shows that should have never been cancelled). So while the legal antics were entertaining and fun, they weren't realistic. And that's okay. Despite being a single dad, Adam is somewhat of a man about town, jumping from woman to woman without getting attached. Sadly Adam had been burned by his late wife and he doesn't expect to find himself married ever again. He was a great dad to the cute-as-a-button Maisie, and he had a special relationship with his father. Overall, I thought he was a good hero and I had a good picture of him in my head.

The relationship between Adam and Simone was both fast and slow. The instant attraction was there, but neither were looking for love again. I liked that Adam was more traditional when it came to relationships, and I also liked that Simone didn't struggle to hard to resist another Cajun man. This series does focus quite a bit on the secondary characters as well, and what characters they are. From Simone's crazy mother to the even more nutty Tante Lulu, there were hi-jinks aplenty.

I think this is a good story to pick up if you are in the mood for something wacky and ridiculously Southern. My only issue with the story was the over-the-top "hick speak". Being a Southern girl and having lived in New Orleans for the last several years, I never mind when an author adds Southern flair to a story, including a Southern accent. But there is a fine line between portraying an accurate Southern accent and attitude, and taking it too far and making people sound like uneducated hicks. Unfortunately I felt like it was overdone in this story and I found myself getting aggravated at times. I will most likely continue reading the series to see if I can handle the Cajun portrayal in the other books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Avon.

All of the titles I’ve read from Sandra Hill have been fun and a touch over the top: fast-paced dialogue, silly bordering on ridiculous comments and plenty of intrigue. And I’ve read most of these titles without having familiarity with the earlier titles in the series, since they worked well as stand alones. This title is no different – with a few recurring characters who arrive with some backstory allowing them to fit in neatly. In this story, Simone is back home while her mother recovers from surgery. A Chicago police officer, one would expect her to be a bit skeptical and perhaps more bemused by her relations than she is – but she’s not going to sit around and wait for amusement – opening an agency, Legal Belles, that provides services to those who feel their spouse is cheating on them. She’s drawing from her own personal experience and prejudices against Cajun men, and her police experience make this a solid career choice.

Enter Adam Lanier, a single father and lawyer known for his courtroom flair and bedroom acumen, aware of Simone’s latest case: a man on the brink of swindling his wife out of millions. Lanier is stepping up to protect and help Simone, knowing just how deep the corruption goes, even if Simone isn’t interested in the help or the proximity. But the chemistry is strong here, and with Tante Lulu working her own brand of matchmaking magic for her dear Simone, all good intentions and determination to not be interested in yet another Cajun man are tossed to the wind.

Through some seriously dangerous (and often funny) adventures, Simone’s desire to keep Adam at arm’s length, and the endless people that are offended, threatened and then angered by Simone’s investigating, the story moves quickly from point to point. At first (and many other) glance, Adam and Simone are not a natural couple: they aren’t well suited, Simone’s sense often takes a powder when she responds positively to some rather questionable ‘compliments’ and situations, and the overall feel of we’re all in this together sort of sense that I get from most of Hill’s books seemed to lapse frequently as the Cajun sense of the story went into stereotypical, leaving an us versus them sort of sensibility that didn’t add to the fun or the humor. Easy to understand the plot and the who in this story, as well as the introduction of Tante Lulu and her offbeat style, I’m sure this will please fans of the series.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I'm always cheered by the thought of reading a Sandra Hill book. I just love the characters and often think the stories are so funny.

If you haven't yet read her Cajun series you really should. Talk about great, funny characters with Tante Lulu leading the pack!

Simone isn't a character that I really knew about before read Cajun Crazy I think she was mentioned in the prior book and maybe could have been mentioned in another but to be honest I don't remember her. With that fact in mind I sorta went into the book feeling a little lost.

That only lasted about a paragraph in and then I was all the way into the story. I right from the beginning liked Simone. Her inability to stay away from sexy Cajun's that say the word darlin is a hoot! Plus when her mother needed her she came running.

I also really likes Adam. My heart always melts for men that take care of their kids all alone. Okay, Adam had help from his father but you get what I mean. There is just something about men and kids that feels good to me. Also you are going to love Adam's daughter. She at times steals the story!

Even though these two fall for each other they don't really jump into anything. They both want to but already have a idea that once in, getting out will be hard. Cajun Crazy is a wonderful story that kept me laughing. I didn't want to stop reading it. I was so glad that many of the past characters of the series were either mentioned or in the story. Plus we know that are more LeDeux out there waiting to show up. Love that thoughts.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Simone is from Lousiana, Cajun country and she has a thing for Cajun me. And it never ends well. After three failed marriages, she doesn't want anything to do with another cajun man ever again. But when she meets Adam Lanier the sparks are instant. She tries to stay away from him and his cajun brown eyes that seem to pull her in.
Adam is working with Simone's halfbrother Luc and when she walks in his office, she is struck stupid. He can't talk much less think. He thinks it's just lust but he is so wrong. After a marriage that was not what it seemed, he isn't interested in getting married ever again. He isn't even wanting a relationship but he may be rethinking things along those lines with Simone.
This is the first for me from this author and this series and I really enjoyed it. It will have you laughing at any given time. What you think should be serious but hey why can't we laugh during some serious sexy times, it makes it better. I need to go back and read the rest of this series as soon as I get a chance.

Is it possible for someone's tastes to change so much that a series which was first started in PP back in the 90's and much beloved -has become distasteful to me now? I loved this series when I was in my 40's but now I just find the series childish and sad...

Is it my age?

Is it the series?

I'm so sorry that I couldn't finish this book, but for what I did read the characters seemed vacuous and shallow. They were so silly that they went over the top into being clownish for me.

I have several of the Viking series on my comfort books pile - I will now have to re-read them to see if my age has dulled my appreciation of these books.

*sigh*

With this latest installment readers are once again drawn into the Cajun world crafted by Ms. Hill. It’s a brash world, full of colorful characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and teeming with sensuality. There’s also a sense of family as characters we’ve come to love make their presence known throughout the story, characters whose stories we’ve read numerous times over the years with HEAs that get even stronger.

Simone LeDeux has had a colorful love life with three divorces in her past. She’s unapologetic though as each divorce made her the strong-willed woman she is today. Returning to her hometown has her focused on her new career now and swearing off Cajun men forever. It’s a battle that has her raising the white flag in surrender the moment she meets Adam Lanier though as he’s the epitome of a decadent delight. With her reluctant to put her heart on the line again it’s a connection that moves slowly but is nonetheless teeming with sensuality. Add in her nosy mother and well-meaning friends and it’s a romance full of laughter, sexiness, and ultimately love. Simone’s a refreshing heroine who’s no shrinking violet. She’s self-assured and unapologetic about her vast sexual experience. She’s a heroine you can’t help but root for as she gets put through the wringer by all the townspeople bent on her finding her HEA.

Adam’s a sexy lawyer with a heart of gold when it comes to his daughter Maisie. He’s had his own issues though when it comes to love courtesy of a duplicitous ex-wife who made a mockery of their wedding vows. Since then he hasn’t wanted anything permanent when it comes to women and has become the king of casual sex. Meeting the tempting Simone has him rethinking things in a connection that starts out slowly but grows increasingly erotic. Her job soon causes insecurities to flare though and ultimately puts her in a dangerous situation that leaves their HEA in doubt. Adam’s very charming but his double standards regarding sexuality frustrated me. What’s good for the goose isn’t apparently good for the gander as he espouses lots of judgments when it comes to Simone’s past. I didn’t appreciate his hypocrisy and it dimmed my enjoyment of the story a bit. Luckily his moments of sweetness and love for his daughter redeemed him enough to have me rooting for him and Simone to find their HEA.

This was a fun story, an atmospheric one that fully immersed me in this larger-than-life world full of outspoken characters. The romance between Simone and Adam is satisfying, but takes a bit of a backseat to her job and the suspense surrounding it. Their romance was crackling, with a slow pace that left me on edge in anticipation of them finally jumping each other. Tante Lulu is a character who’s an integral part of this world and who always makes me laugh with her words and deeds. Maisie too is an utter delight. She’s bold for her age with matchmaking skills that were subtle but slyly clever. On a whole this was a fine addition to the Cajun series and though it can be read on its own it will be a much richer experience having read all the previous books with their unforgettable characters that quickly become family.

I have read some of Sandra Hill’s Cajun novels, but not all of them and it has been a while. When I was given the opportunity to read and review this one, I was thrilled. It is just as good as I remember. I love the way Ms. Hill blends the traditions and feeling of the bayou with her romances. I definitely need to go back and read the books that I have missed.
Simone LeDeux has a weakness for Cajun men. There is something about the way they drawl the word darlin’ that makes her melt. She thought that leaving Louisiana would make it easier for her to avoid Cajun men, but they seem to find her. When she catches her latest boyfriend with his secretary, her mom’s phone call needing Simone to come home makes it easy to leave Chicago and start over back at home. Simone helps her mother recover from knee surgery and then looks for a job. Working with her best friend to investigate crimes like, but not limited to, cheating spouses seems a great way to use her police background while staying close to home.
Adam Lanier is a lawyer that works with Simone’s half-brother. He is a serial monogamist since his wife died of cancer. Their marriage was not traditional and not something that he wants to repeat. Adam is thrilled to do work that he loves while taking care of his daughter. Moving out of New Orleans allows him to have a slower life while having his father move in to help care for his daughter. Meeting Simone rocks his world and Adam isn’t sure what to do next.
The heat sizzles between Adam and Simone at their first meeting. They both have baggage and neither one wants to jump into a relationship. Figuring out just how to be around each other makes for a challenging dynamic and some comedic episodes. Ms. Hill does a wonderful job of blending the absurd with the romantic and throws in a little suspense to keep everything moving.
Adding Tante Lulu and her Cajun matchmaking to the mix and hijinks definitely occur. The bayou is a small place with everyone knowing everyone else’s business and not being reluctant to meddle. Adam’s daughter is adorably precocious. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Hill has in store for Adam’s brother in a future book.

Posted on What I'm Reading

So, my thoughts on Cajun Crazy are kind of all over place. There some parts of the book I really enjoyed and others that were kind of meh. So, we have two people who are both cajun and might be a little crazy. So, we have Simone who has bad taste in men, and happen to be cajun. Adam has had a bad marriage and decided that it's for the birds. However, these two are drawn together. They can't seem to fight the attraction, but it doesn't help when most of the family is trying to push them together.

First off, I had a hard time with Simone and Adam's relationship. I wasn't feeling them together. They both wanted one another, but at the same time they didn't. All this back and forth kind of made me dizzy. It was hard for me to picture Adam wanting to be with Simone, because he kind of painted most women with the same brush as his wife. By the way, she really messed that poor guy up. Talk about rocky situation. There were a couple a situations he went all caveman, that was a struggle for him, because she's an independent kind of women. Two stubborn people are always have a hard time getting together.

However, I did like parts of the story especially when Legal Belles start really coming to life. I found this part of the story pretty fascinating. I liked how Simone wanted to correct the social injustice of the world, which kind of drove Adam crazy.

Overall, Cajun Crazy was an all right read. I did like the story a little more as the end drew near, but I think it had more to do with the dynamics of what was happen more than the love story. I sort of want to keep reading, because I'm really want Adam's brother's story, and also Daniel's brother's story. I'm kind of craving their stories, because there's something going in their heads. I mean Dave just came back needing to be fixed, and Aaron his hiding something. Those who have love the series from the beginning might like the craziness that happens in this story.

Cajun Crazy by Sandra Hill

I don’t remember when I read my first Cajun Novel by Sandra Hill. I’ve read several books from her other series but my favorites are her Cajun stories.
I met Ms. Hill at a Romantic Times Convention many years ago. This quiet, gentle lady was on a panel with a pair of boisterous comedic authors. I remember feeling sorry for her because she couldn’t compete with their antics. She waited patiently for them to run out of steam and then proceeded to entertain us with her own, sweet, humble humor. I have never forgotten how this beautiful, reserved lady handled herself during that discussion. Afterwards, I got the chance to speak with Ms. Hill. She was a gracious and intelligent person with a fabulous sense of humor. I have been a fan ever since.
Tante Lulu, the matriarch of the Le Deux clan, is half voodoo queen and half sweet, Catholic great aunt. It doesn’t matter if Lulu is kin to you are not. If she decides you are family, then you’re subject to her machinations. Love potions, lightning bolts and Saint Jude are forces that can’t be beat.
Simone Le Deux, a former Chicago cop, knows her weakness is Cajun men. When she comes home to Louisiana to care for her mother, she has to battle her mother’s religious prejudices and her attraction for inappropriate Cajun men.
Adam Lanier, law partner with Simone’s half-brother, Luc, isn’t interested in anything serious. Once burned, Adam has given up on relationships and is definitely not interested in marriage.
When Tante Lulu, Adam’s father and his daughter, Maisie join forces, he and Simone are out gunned. Desire and lust are held at bay, and soon gives way to friendship and respect.
Sandra Hill weaves the hilarious with the dramatic, taking her readers on a romping good ride through the bayou, from catfish noodling to getting proof of a cheating husband’s perversions. Simone and her partner, Helene of Legal Belles, are more than investigators, they are empowering women to take charge of their lives. The anxiety of Simone’s job and its conflict with Adam’s, adds to the trouble but when Tante Lulu and Saint Jude are on the job, there’s bound to be a happy ending.

The story...
...former cop turned investigator, Simone, heads back home to Louisiana to take care of family. She has a run in with newly transplanted Adam, a Harley riding, single dad with looks to spare, when getting things set up for her new business, Legal Belles (nice ring to it!) and since be happens to be her half-brother's new law partner, the sparks that fly in that chance meeting are bound to ignite. The rest as they say is history or rather HIS and HER story because their push and pull on each other is a big part of the overall tale, but butting right up next to it and making itself at home is their work lives. As explosive as their feelings are for each other, things are about to get real, REALLY fast...

My feelings...
...the characters are charming (mostly), the family relations humorous, and the magic brewing auntie a riotous hoot. Simone was a force to be reckoned with, giving us a strong female lead against an equally strong male lead in Adam Lanier. Let's not forget the spunky little angel we call Maise because really, she's a gem! I also enjoyed the secondary plot line running just beneath the surface, creating just enough stirrings to keep you guessing as to what dangers lie ahead...which ultimately turns into something that will have everyone rethinking their stance on living the best life they can.

In conclusion...
...I came for the story, and did in fact enjoy the ride, but another trip to the bayou doesn't seem to be in the cards for my future reading as apparently, the whole Cajun thing...not a draw for me. Doesn't mean it's not YOUR cup of sweet tea...

I had issues with most everyone in this one.

The heroine for her lack of self control/respect with regards to members of the opposite sex from her home state, for her attitude about her mom

The heroine's mom for acting like a dingbat at times (since she was middle aged, her daughter's judgmental assessments of her clothing style was a source of irritation)

The hero, for his attitude towards the heroine, and collectively with his dad, for setting such a poor example for a 5 year old girl.

Said 5 year old for being a demanding little brat wrapped in a bubbly package

Low-lights - the H bursting in on the h and an employee's sting...and being indignant that she was upset about his interference. The H making comments about her love life (he had all the makings of a player, not one to talk)

Highlights? The trial.

It just seems like conversations get skipped in this series in lieu of manipulation. And when the conversations actually are allowed to happen, they always reach an impasse where the only way the couple can be together is with Tante Lulu's manipulations. Just seems like they never really get to figure things out for themselves, and that bugs me. This one kinda underscores that. I don't think the H will be ok with her doing undercover work. I think sooner or later, he'll blow her cover in a misguided attempt to rescue her, and get someone hurt. And all of Tante Lulu's shenanigans are not going to fix that.

I always have a good time with the crazy Cajuns in the bayou. Simone has had enough of Cajun men. She is in Chicago and still can't get away from them. When her mom needs help recovering from knee surgery, she goes back home to the bayou. She and a friend are going into business together. Shouldn't be as dangerous as being a cop. Then in walks Adam. He sure makes her go Cajun crazy. No! She has sworn off Cajun men. She needs to find herself a Northerner. Adam is not looking for another wife. Been there done that. His daughter was the only good thing that came from his marriage. But when he meets Simone, the thunderbolt of love strikes. He will deny it to the end because there is no way he wants any permanent relationship again. But he can't seem to stay away from Simone. When Simone puts herself in danger, Adam decides to ride in on his white horse and save her. Whether she wants him to or not. How are these two ever going to work out their differences. Well, there is always St. Jude and Tante Lulu. They will straighten them out.

I just love Sandra Hill’s Cajun series, and this one lived up to the rest. It was fun, zany and sexy. I admit that Adam came across as a bit crass in the very beginning, but I soon got to know him, and really liked him. It was fun watching Simone go through her Cajun crazy, surrounded by interesting characters and all of them being chased by Tante Lulu. It’s a fast-paced story that left me smiling.

I have enjoyed Sandra Hill's books for a very long time - since the first Viking/time travel series. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed others. She has a decidedly quirky style, which takes a little getting used to, but isn't much of a hinderance to reading. In this book, though, that quirkiness bordered on annoying. The use of the 'Cajun dialect' also bordered on the edge of annoying. The story itself was a bit "thin" with often too much emphasis on food (do I really need to know every single dish they had at every meal/date/party and what the ingredients are?), clothing (do I really need to have a detailed description of every article of clothing someone is wearing?) and a few too many places where things were "glossed over." I still enjoyed the story, just not so much as others I've read by Sandra Hill, which leaves me a bit disappointed.

I loved the supporting characters and all the crazy family antics! Tante Lulu is someone I’d hide from at a family dinner but would love to watch in action..as long as I’m not the guinea pig! And Adam’s daughter Maisie was a charming sprite who brought a smile every time she said something. As to the actual romance however, I never fell for Adam and Simone as a couple. Individually, I can say I liked them well enough, but as a couple? Their physical chemistry felt forced and the emotional connection was nonexistent.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book I received from Harper Collins via RT Book Reviews Giveaway.

This is the story of yet another LeDeux half sibling, Simone, and Adam Lanier, Charmaine's husband's
cousin. Simone is an ex-cop who opens an investigation/law practice with her friend, a lawyer.
Adam, a single father, is a lawyer in practice with Luc LeDeux. I liked the connection with Luc and the involvement of the other family in the story as well as the inevitable presence of Tante Lulu. There is romance and humor as in the rest of the series. However, the three star (rather than four) rating is due to the side stories not being as interesting to me as those in the other books.

Another story about the Ledeaux family (Hope I spelled the name correctly) finding love, due to some help from Tante Lulu and St. Jude. This time is Simone, who always falls for a crazy Cajun, this time Adam, partner to her half-brother, Lawyer Lucien.

Cut e story, but there were things I just did not understand why they were included---the long scenes of her undercover work at a millionaire's sexual "playhouse" (which was just outright creepy!) and the arbitrary arsonist. Still cannot make this connection.''
