A charming reprint of the the 1950's Entertaining With Betty. Written as if Betty Crocker were your close friend, filling you in on how to be the perfect hostess. The advice is so fun to read and see how things have changed and become so casual over such a short time period. Recipes and menus abound. It would be fun to follow one of the menus and have a retro dinner party. Some of the recipes may not stand the test of time and today's modern palate (Wheaties Bars, Avocado Gelatin Mold, Creamed Olives) but others are tried and true, homemade breads, tortes and cakes for the baker. On pg. 89 is a Lasagne recipe, complete with sauce and meatball recipes. Or how about Chicken Parisian or Chinese Veal? The pictures and illustrations are charming. A great addition to any cookbook collection.
This was such a delightful book. Obviously some of the information is a bit dated now, but this is a charming little book. A good chunk of the recipes sound delicious and the illustrations were marvelous. Lots of good common sense advice, too.
I absolutely love this book! We have lost many things as a people over the years, formality and etiquette to name a few. I dearly wish that we someday soon return to the times of dainty parties and lively brunches. 🥂
This book has practical advice on entertaining and terrific recipes for throwing together dishes on the fly. Some of the information is dated, but politeness never goes out of style.
I give this 2 stars for the recipe content & 5 stars for the side splitting laughter it induced. The era that this book hails from was certainly different from today!
