The Nutcracker

One cold and frosty Christmas Eve night, the Stahlbaum house shone festive and bright. Twinkling candles lit up the tree as guests arrived for the Stahlbaums' party. Hoffman's tale of The Nutcracker is a favorite traditional story made popular by Tchaikovsky's ballet music. Retold in verse and beautifully illustrated by Caroline Pedler, the story captures the magic, and excitement of Christmas Eve.

This story is a beautiful hard cover perfect for younger children where the nutcracker is retold with lovely illustrations. It is a good introduction to the classic tale.

Boooo, this edition is so bland. The illustrations aren't much to look at, and the story rhymes. Why? It's weird. I didn't even realized it rhymed until half way through because....it's a story. Not a poem. Not Dr. Seuss.

My point is, there are so many other versions that are magical, with illustrations that make the Christmas spirit come at you.

Obviously I read this book in English, but couldn't find the English listing...
I liked reading this Christmas classic with my little one, but I felt like the storyline was a bit too simplified/rushed. Good illustrations though.
