FBI agent Declan Grey is in the chase of his life—but isn't sure exactly what he's chasing after. Threatened by a terrorist that "the wrath is coming," Grey fears something horrible is about to be unleashed on American soil. When his investigation leads him to a closed immigrant community, he turns to Tanner Shaw to help him. She's sought justice for refugees and the hurting around the world, and if there's anyone who can help him, it's Tanner.
Tanner Shaw has joined the FBI as a crisis counselor . . . meaning she now has more opportunity to butt heads with Declan. But that tension also includes a spark she can't deny, and she's pretty sure Declan feels the same. But before anything can develop between them, they discover evidence of a terror cell—and soon are in a race against the clock to stop the coming "wrath" that could cost thousands their lives.

Got approved to review this at 6:30 tonight and just finished reading it at 10:30. Book 4, PLEASE!!!!
I'm addicted to this group of guys (and gals)... I love stories of enduring friendship anyway, and there's a great example of that in this series. Honestly, I can never get enough of strong friendship stories, to the point of where friends are like brothers/sisters and are willing to sacrifice for each other—and I mean real sacrifice, not the "here's a chocolate from my box of chocolates" kind of sacrifice. You know that "Greater love has no man...than to lay down his life for his friend" passage? One character here puts life and limb in peril more than once to save a friend from certain death, and I do have to say, that person quickly became a favorite character, especially as the scenes unfolded and that character was revealed as being less than happy, longing for peace and a home, etc etc. To give to another from riches is one thing; to sacrifice out of poverty another. NO, I'm not telling you who that is. You have to read the book. (Caveat: you can't just read this book. It won't make good sense unless you read books one and two to get the scoop on the friendship and the ongoing backstory of the international criminal they're trying to take down.)
Then, also, the faith these guys have. What an example of faith in action in daily life. This isn't praying for help when pushed to the wall; it's a daily relationship with God and a real knowledge of "I'm stronger with God by my side at every moment" type of faith. Get in a sticky spot? Hm, God must have a plan. This is exactly what I look for when I pick up a Christian fiction book: a real, relevant, daily faith.
There are two threads in this book: the mystery specific to this book, and the overarching pursuit carried over from the other books and lasting into the next book.
Romance...not the first thing I look for in a book, but Declan and Tanner were truly a great couple.
(But can I just say, that scene near the end where Kate gets mad—or should I say scenes?—I ate that up! Laughed out loud.)
Thanks to the publisher for a free review copy. Positive reviews not required.
Oh my goodness! This book y'all!! Dani Pettrey proves once again why she is the queen of romantic suspence, in the third installment of the Chesapeake Valor series. Blind Spot was one of my favorite books in the series, everything was so high stakes! I love this group of friends I just can't get enough of them. My only problem with this book is that I don't have book 4 yet! Let me just tell you the cliff-hanger is real y'all! My mind is just spinning of how everything is going to play out! I need July to get here now! :-)
Blind Spot definitely leveled up the action and the drama in this series. When Declan, Tanner, Parker, Avery, Griffin and Finley and Kate, who all work in various departments of law enforcement are faced with not one but two huge cases to solve. Their relationships are put to the test. I really enjoyed getting to see things play out between Declan's and Tanner's as they worked together with the FBI to try a stop terriorts plot. Blind spot really highlighted each persons investigating skills while having the same gripping and heartfelt storylines that will make you just love every minute! Even the supporting characters are awesome! (ie. Noah Rowley, Jason). Side note: I hope Noah gets his owns series cause I think a Coast Gaurd series will be pretty rockin'!
This book has plenty surprises! Eh-hmm! Like a certain person remerging on the scene...whew! Things are about to take off! All I have to say I'm so on team Kate. Bro' has some splanin' to do. Lol, where you been???
Yeah, so I finished this book at 2 am, my husband was out of town, and I had to fall asleep with the lamp on! Talk about intense! This is one of those can't-put-it-down books, where the pace is quick and the characters don't seem to stop for one second. Well, they do stop for some good kissing, but that's another kind of intense ;) There are two cases being worked by the team of friends, and by now we've gotten to know Griffin and Finley from Cold Shot, and Parker and Avery from Still Life. I've been so excited for Declan and Tanner's story since there was a great lead-in to their current relationship, so I recommend reading the books in order for the best experience. It can also be read out of order since there are no spoilers for the plots of the previous books (which I think is a good choice).
The case that Griffin is leading is creepy and a little gory. There's a lot of angles that the team had to work since it involves some obvious suspects but also options for hidden motives by others. Declan is continuing his investigation from Still Life, and now gets to work with Tanner as his partner, which gives them plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal. There is quite a bit of danger, running from bullets, and taking out would-be assassins. Declan learns more about Tanner's past and why she is so good at her job, and is able to trust that she can indeed handle the scary situations they find themselves in. Tanner sees a lesser-known side of Declan and as his walls come down, they grow closer together. I loved their developing romance and the great chemistry they have together!
I was impressed how the members of the team really lived their faith as they petition the Lord for guidance and safety as they search for clues and follow the leads to obtain justice and protect innocent lives. Another thread is woven in that will lead into the fourth book in the Chesapeake Valor series, and this one has been a long time coming, solving a mystery that was introduced in the first book, Cold Shot. I can't wait to read what I hope will be Kate and Luke's story! I highly recommend this series to fans of romantic suspense!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
Love that the main characters became friends when there were on a Little League baseball team. In the third book in the Chesapeake Valor Series, Declan is the main focus. Fortunately, the other three friends have parts in the story as well.
What I enjoyed most about Blind Spot is the way the author so cleanly blended two different cases together. The ending set up book four.
Blind Spot in an action packed book that will keep you guessing until the end. I was immediately pulled into the story and I had trouble putting it down!
I completely fell in love with this group of friends. Their friendship was just so real. All of them are willing to do anything for each other and it was just so sweet. There was not one but two cases to solve in this book, which made it that much better. Though I thought that both cases were great, I probably liked the case that Griffin worked on better. There was so much suspense and I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen next. This was definitely one of my favorite mysteries.
Declan and Tanner also had a pretty tough case to solve. I loved reading their part of the story, and seeing their relationship grow throughout the book. One thing that I loved about the two of them was that Tanner accepted Declan’s help and knew that she needed him. So many females in books act like they have to do in all on their own and that they don’t need help. They think that they have to be the “strong” one. This wasn’t like that at all which I really liked. Tanner accepted help when she needed it.
One thing that really stood out to me was the ending of this book. There was so much suspense and a lot going on. The book didn’t end in a major cliff hanger, but it definitely makes you want to read book 4.
I really enjoyed this book and I’d definitely recommend it!
“ I received a free copy of this book from the Bethany House review program in exchange of my honest review “
This book was page turning. I loved how the characters from the other books are in this one as well. I found myself frequently staying up late to read this.
There are a couple of major revelations in this book, and it makes me even more eager for the fourth in the series.
Declan and Tanner have been sparring since the first book in the series, but seeing their story come about was a delight. Of all the couples in the series so far, I think this pair may be my favorite.
I received a copy from the author and the publisher to help with promotion. I was not required to like the book only give my honest opinion. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recommended to fans of romantic suspense, Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon
Warning: do not start reading this book unless you have a good few hours spare, because you are not going to want to put this one down! Non-stop action, heart-pounding romance, strong friendship, numerous high-stakes criminal investigations, high-speed motorcycle chases through traffic with bullets flying - this book has everything to keep readers madly flipping pages.
Declan Grey, FBI agent, knows in his gut that there is more to be uncovered about the boat he caught smuggling drugs and humans into the USA. But he is surprised when he is paired with Tanner Shaw, a recent FBI recruit and someone well versed in working with the immigrant population, to work the case, and even more surprised when she agrees with his assessment of imminent danger. Their proximity as they work the case allows them both to examine their growing feelings as they race against the clock to prevent what appears to be a planned terrorist attack.
The action starts right from the beginning of Blind Spot and never stops, and it doesn't take much longer for the romance to heat up either. Right from the first chapter, the first line, I knew this book was going to blow wide open one of the mysteries outlined in the previous books in the series. Knowing the characters and their backgrounds also meant the story could jump right into the action. Because of that, I suggest readers tackle this series in chronological order - the mix of suspense, romance, and friendship is well worth it.
I really enjoyed watching Declan and Tanner come together. They had butted heads so many times in the previous book, that is was fun to see them set aside their differences and instead focus on what makes them so well suited.
I read this book in one, four hour sitting. I didn't want to put it down. I was swept up in the crime solving. There are are two main cases that take the focus of this book's plot. As Declan and Tanner work their case, Griffin, Finley, Parker, Avery, and Kate work a fraud case that quickly dissolves into a complicated homicide. As well as these two cases, we readers finally get some more information about the disappearance of the group's friend, Luke. A satisfying climax only leads to more questions as the book perfectly sets up what is sure to be an amazing fourth book.
This Chesapeake Valor series is perfect for readers who enjoy crime fighting and suspense that leaves you unwilling to put the book down. Throw in some swoony romance, a strong band of friendship and unswerving faith, and you have a book just like Blind Spot. Highly recommended.
The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

In my opinion, nothing is better than a goodromantic suspense with tons of suspense and a hint of romance. Like most people, I was introduced to Dani Pettrey's writing with her Alaskan Courage story. I really enjoyed that series, and I am glad that she has continued writing another series. With the third addition to the Chesapeake Valor series, Blind Spot, the story has just what I'm looking for. Plenty of nail-biting moments and characters who have gripped my attention from the first book, Cold Shot, and continue to Blind Spot.
I enjoy Pettrey's writing. She is great at inviting me into the story and capturing my attention from the get go. Right in the first chapter, Pettrey invites me into the tension and sparks my interest with the idea of something sinister. She also is good at making the setting come to life. Also, I enjoy how this series revolves around terrorist attacks and trafficking, which is completely relevant to the news today.
It was nice spending time getting into Declan and Tanner's head this time around. They have been on the fringes in the previous two stories, so it was nice to hear their story from their perspective. It was nice seeing what made them tick and watch their romance develop on a deeper level. Tanner is a smart, athletic woman who has a number of hidden skills that Declan stands in awe at. While Declan doesn't appear to be such a mean guy when Pettrey allowed me to come close and personal to his personality.
There are two mystery plots in this story. One has to do with a dead man and a "missing" couple. The other subplot has to do with a terrorist plot that I believe has been carried over from the previous novel. I enjoyed both stories and couldn't wait to see justice served. There were moments where I held my breath, waiting to see what danger the characters would end up in. Pettrey does a great job at actually leaving the end as a cliff-hanger, which I didn't see coming, but I can tell you I'm really happy she did. Makes me want to return for the next installment.
Overall, Dani Pettrey's Blind Spot is a thrill-ride of a tale with two different stories fighting for the central story with fascinating characters that kept me glued to the page. I highly recommend this novel for fans of Brandilyn Collins, Lynette Eason, and Carrie Stuart Parks. I really can't wait for the next book.
I received a complimentary copy of Blind Spot from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own
Pettrey continues to ramp up the tension in Blind Spot, the third novel in the Chesapeake Valor series! I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series before picking up Blind Spot. There are relationships and events that have occurred in the previous books that directly impact this story and will give the reader a full understanding of what takes place in this novel.
I love the characters in this series. It was so good to see what was happening in the lives of Griffin, Finley, Parker, Avery, Kate, Declan, and Tanner. I really enjoyed watching the way the teams of characters worked to uncover the truth behind the events that unfolded in the book.
It was great to see the romantic tension move toward a relationship for Declan and Tanner. These two characters complimented each other well. They were both strong characters, in their abilities as well as their faith. And I appreciated the way Tanner brought out a more compassionate side of Declan.
I’m looking so forward to reading book four of this series. I really like the way the author has set up book four to flow from the events of books three. I’m also anticipating a great romantic thread that will keep readers on their toes in the coming book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I love how this story is so interconnected with the others in the series. It was also fun to read Declan and Tanner's romance. The book ends building to book four. Can't wait to read that one. Perfect for lovers of romantic suspense.
When I go to write a review, I always try to first ask myself, "What did I love about this book?"
So. What did I love about this book? Ehm... everything? Let me think about it. Yep! Pretty much everything. Except for that cliffhanger ending. Gosh, those just kill me sometimes! I mean..... Why? Why do authors like to torture us like this? Why do they end a book like this only to turn around and make us wait for months to get our hands on the next book?! Yeah, yeah... I know it builds up excitement and anticipation and all that, but it really makes my family question my sanity (even more than they already do) when they hear me yell all of a sudden, seemingly for no reason whatsoever! So thank you, Dani Pettrey. My family is now completely convinced that I have finally lost my last marble. *sigh* They just don't understand.
I don't know that this is my favorite of Dani's books... but then, I like all of hers so much that I don't think I could ever choose a favorite! This story is exactly what I have come to expect from her, though. A really good, fun, fast read with action-packed suspense and the type of awesome characters that you just really wish you could go visit! And the faith and reliance on God that Dani so smoothly weaves into these stories is truly beautiful.
I love that the previous books in the series have set up the relationship between Declan and Tanner so that we already have some backstory for them going into this book. If we didn't have that, I think their relationship would have felt really rushed and maybe rather odd, but instead, it felt very natural after having already seen them together some. And speaking of that... I have really been looking forward to seeing into their thoughts regarding each other and their own personal history and struggles. That was one of the best parts of finally getting to read this book: getting to know these characters on a deeper level that really helped me to be able to understand and connect with them.
It's so amazing when you discover a new author that pretty much becomes an instant favorite. It's a rare occurrence, but it does happen. Dani is one of those authors. I don't ever read her book blurbs anymore because I know that whatever the book is about, I am almost 100% certain to enjoy it. She draws me into her stories so quickly and so easily... I open up one of her books-- any of her books-- and the next thing I know, it's the wee hours of the morning and I'm struggling to hold my eyes open and keep my brain functioning well enough to comprehend what I'm reading so I can finish the book!
In case you can't tell... I think this is a great read, y'all! I absolutely recommend it!
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher to help promote it. No review required. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
" . . . .his vision grew limited, until all he saw was her. It was surprisingly peaceful, albeit alarmingly disorienting."
Declan Grey's temporary partner turns out to be Tanner Shaw; the one woman who managed to capture his attention in all kinds of ways is now a newly hired crisis counselor for the F. B. I. Tasked with finding hard evidence of an international terrorist ring operating out of the Chesapeake Bay area, Declan and Tanner travel to Houston, Texas to follow their most promising lead. Imagine their surprise when a "ghost" from Declan's past shows up just in time to save their lives.
Reeling from the shock over a mentor's demise, Griffin McCray enlists the help of his friends throughout law enforcement to solve what is first labeled as a murder-suicide, despite the myriad of unanswered questions and two missing bodies. As Declan and Griffith work tirelessly through the evidence in both cases, it seems that something more nefarious is at play. A suicide bomber issued a haunting decree . . . . "the wrath is coming".
Arms smuggling, human trafficking, drug runners, international terrorist cells; while all serving as major components in"Blind Spot", they unintentionally weigh down readers with names, dates, locations, and intelligence information, making the story line a bit cumbersome to sort through at times. Nevertheless, the book is carefully plotted, and sets up nicely for the next installment in the series.
Pettrey's third Chesapeake Valor novel is a major thrill ride with some fascinating twists. There are two plots here — one continuing from previous novels and one that wraps up within the tale. The romance is sweet and beautifully developed, and the action is basically non-stop. The interaction between Declan and Tanner is heartwarming and believable, and the puzzles they solve will appeal to mystery lovers everywhere. Special agent Declan Grey knows that something is brewing with terrorist activity in the U.S., but he doesn't have the hard evidence needed to convince the government to act. When he and crisis counselor Tanner Shaw get a lead, they travel to Texas to investigate. As the danger escalates, the two grow closer as they attempt to stop something that could devastate the country.
If you love suspense/mysteries you really need to pick up this series and this book. It is full on and intense. There is never a dull moment and I was fully engaged from beginning to end- almost desperate at times. Eek! So good! I would highly recommend reading these books in order. The characters are all so heavily involved in each book, you will really miss out on knowing them and their backgrounds if you don't read in order. There is also an ongoing sort of missing persons mystery going on throughout the first three books that comes to a head at the end of this book. It would be such a spoiler if you don't read the other books first!
The lives of a group of friends intertwine as do their individual stories within each book in this series. I am amazed with Dani Pettrey and her ability to weave these stories, their plots and characters so seamlessly together.
This book is intense! Did I mention that already?! Ha. It was hard to put down but I had to because I can't read stories like this at night. I'm such a big chicken and I get all worked up. I love sleep too much to risk being scared all night! There are car chases, shooting scenes, detective work, running and hiding. It barely lets you catch your breath before something else happens.
This book is Christian Fiction, or Inspirational Fiction. The characters rely on their faith and trust in God to guide them through difficult situations. It isn't done in a preachy way, just as a seamless part of their lives. I love that about this series.
I can't wait to read the next book!! This book leaves off in a way that just makes you crazy for the next book. Arg! Waiting isn't my favorite. :)
Content: Violence, death, kissing, peril, torture
- I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Blind Spot was a thrilling read with suspense and romance. Dani Pettrey's books are automatically on my must-read list (because she knows how to write stories that are SO good and hold my attention), so I wasn't surprised that I really enjoyed this story.
I loved getting to know the main characters in Blind Spot, Declan and Tanner, a little better. I thought their romance was cute and believable. They knew each other for a while, so I didn't feel it was rushed. A character that really intrigued me was Luke; I loved the scenes we got with him in Blind Spot.
The book ends with a cliffhanger that left me breathless and needing to read the next book NOW. Only problem? It doesn't release for a few months (July 2018).
All in all, Blind Spot was a very good read. I definitely recommend it, but I feel that you need to read the series in order to fully enjoy the story.

The Chesapeake Valor series is an epic, binge-worthy romantic suspense brimming with perilous escapades and tender moments. Let your mind feast on intense investigations as simmering attraction and blossoming relationships set your reader heart aflutter.
As former best friends, Griffin, Parker, Declan, and Luke, reunite through professional collaboration, they seek answers to not only their joint and tandem investigations but also vow to solve the mysteries which bind them together. Each man faces unique personal and professional challenges along the way, including matters of faith and love.
Straight-laced Declan is a dedicated, by-the-book defender. His stark professionalism is matched and complemented by wild-card Tanner’s fierce compassion. As Tanner stands in for Declan’s partner, the time spent together ignites a spark of mutual respect, admiration, and attraction!
Pettrey’s masterful storytelling weaves intricate investigations with complex intimate relationships in a delightfully complex multidirectional plot. I have already begun rereading this intense adventure and I highly recommend the Chesapeake Valor series. I am eagerly anticipating future works from this author!
I borrowed book 1 through the Kindle Unlimited program and received a complimentary copy of books 2-4 from the publisher. I was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
Warning : reader whiplash is inevitable. Book future chiropractor appointments accordingly. Because this is the most amazing, twisty-turny, gasp-out-loud, swoon-on-the-run read. That whoosh you hear? That's me finally releasing my pent up breath now that I've reached the end. I'm feeling rather light-headed and discombobulated so this review might not make any sense but I'll do my best.
First off this is the third book in Pettrey's Chesapeake Valor series and while you don't have to read the first two books I think you'll enjoy it more if you have. The author has been developing relationships and setting up a far-reaching suspense plot through these first three books. And, mercy, this is edge-of-your-seat stuff. I'm not sure if my heart can handle the fourth book. Of course I'll still read it. I just might need counseling afterwards.
One of the things I love the most about Blind Spot is that there's just as much romance as suspense. And it's there right from the very beginning. A desperate unrequited yearning that both Declan and Tanner try to keep at bay. They aren't very successful much to this reader's delight. And this has been developing over the course of the series so it's especially satisfying when this hero and heroine finally let their barriers down.
Tons of action, intriguing suspense (two different cases that involve heroes and heroines from previous books) and some gobsmackingly surprising revelations about Tanner Shaw will keep you feeling like you're riding a tilt-a-whirl right to the very last page....which is somewhat of a suspense cliffhanger. Anxiously waiting for Dead Drift which doesn't release until July 2018.
Blind Spot was action-packed and intense- never a dull moment with this group! I liked it a lot more than the second book and almost as much as the first book.
There were two main storylines/cases and the book switched between the two frequently. Tanner and Declan were involved with one while Kate, Griffin, Parker, Avery and Finley investigated the other one. It worked really well, even though the cases were not related to each other at all. I liked it especially because although the main focus was on Declan and Tanner, the rest of the team wasn't left behind and we got their perspectives as well.
The suspense and action was excellent, and the strong friendships between the characters enhanced the story. 4.5 stars!
This is an EXTREMELY solid book in its genre. If you like inspirational suspense with a dash of romance, this is seriously the book (and series, really) for you. The characters are fabulous, the action and mysteries are compelling, and the writing is GOOD.
Well then, why did I rate it 4 instead of 5? Well, 5 is largely based on my feelings, and there were some instances/descriptions in here that made me shudder a little. There was one villain that was particularly cold , and did some things that just grossed me out.
Also, Just akfjdklafjdkljflk;j!!!!!! I'm so excited for book 4.
This is Dani Pettrey's third novel in the Chesapeake Valor series, and her most ambitious story to date. With a huge cast of memorable characters and multiple story threads running simultaneously, Blind Spot speaks volumes to Pettrey's gift as an author.
Blind Spot is quite possibly my favorite book by Dani Pettrey. . .at least, until her next novel is released!
2.5 Stars (Rounded up to 3 because I hate giving bad reviews.)
I loved Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series, but for some reason The Chesepeake Valor series just isn't doing it for me. I think part of it is that they're best read one right after the other. The characters' relationships build and develop throughout the books. And because I'm reading these as they're released, by the time the next book comes out, I've forgotten the details of the last one.
I read Christian fiction mainly for the romance element. I love a good suspense story, and I appreciate learning new things, but if I'm honest, what makes or breaks a book in my opinion is the romance. And romance was sadly lacking from this book. Of course there was an attempt. And maybe if I went back and read book 2 of the series, I'd remember the foundation of Tanner and Declan's relationship. But in this book, it fell totally flat. After apparently loving each other from afar in previous books, they almost immediately fall in love at the beginning of this one. There is little to no tension in their relationship after that. They just go through the motions of the intense storyline with each other by their sides - reveling in their newfound love for each other. It was cheesy and lacked chemistry.
I was also a little bored with Pettrey's writing style - which is ridiculous considering the plot line centers around murders, terrorism, and bombs. I feel like she includes way too many details. Take for instance this little section:
Declan held the door open for Tanner at Frank's coffee shop. "Grab an open table," the brunette waitress walking by said, a coffee pot in one hand, three plates in the other. Declan spotted an open table near the side windows, led Tanner to it, and pulled out the chair for her. "Thank you," she said, taking a seat. . .[long description of the restaurant's atmosphere] . . . The brunette waitress grabbed an order, dropped it off, and then stopped at their table with coffeepot in hand. "I'm Darlene. I'll be your waitress today. Would y'all like coffee?"
I'm all for painting a picture of the scene, but I don't need to be reminded of the waitress's hair color twice, and I don't need details about what she's carrying or how Declan holds the chair and Tanner sits down. Can't you just say, "They got seated at a table and the waitress came over to take their order"? I'm a big fan of succinctness (which is hilarious considering how I'm rambling now to explain myself).
The story itself was interesting, if a little complicated. And of course it ended on a cliffhanger, so I'll have to read the 4th book. But overall, I wasn't terribly impressed with Blind Spot.
(I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.)
Dani Pettrey is at the top of my list of all time favorite authors, and I was so anticipating this book, so needless to say I was ecstatic to receive an ARC copy of Blind Spot! Blind Spot was absolutely phenomenal! I loved every single minute I spent among its pages! I already knew Declan and Tanner from the two previous books of course, but it was so awesome to finally get inside their heads as well as getting their love story, and I've just gotta say I totally did not see Tanner's backstory coming at all, I loved that though because it gave such insight into her heart and who she is as a character! I loved getting to know Declan better, he was such an awesome hero and I was very glad that for once he managed to get through a whole book without a hospital stay! LOL! But seriously, I was really starting to think maybe it would be best if he was put on desk duty (at least for a while) since he couldn't seem to manage not getting himself seriously hurt! :) The suspense was crazy good, each new development bringing me ever closer to the edge of my seat! I loved that Blind Spot continues a plot thread from the previous book, though the cliffhanger ending left me on pins and needles waiting for the next book! Dani Pettrey's tag line is Up All Night Suspense and I can't think of a better way to describe her books, they are guaranteed to keep you up all night reading! Blind Spot blew me away with its amazingness, I hated to see it end and I cannot wait for the next book, I so hope we get to see this group of characters (all of whom have become dear friends to me) catch the person who murdered Griffin's sister Jenna! I highly recommend Blind Spot! If you enjoy Christian romantic suspense books you need to read Dani Pettrey!
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher to help promote it. No review required. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
I haven't been very impressed with any Dani Pettrey books I've read so far, but while there were elements of Blind Spot I did not like, I did enjoy the story overall.
4.5 stars for storyline 3 stars for characters 2 stars for romance
I am very much a character person and love character-driven stories. Unfortunately for me, characters are not Pettrey's strong suit. While I did like Declan, I really wasn't a fan of Tanner, and never really connected with any of the characters in this series. They lack depth and personality and I find myself yawning at times due to their one-dimension-ness.
The story, on the other hand, I did very much enjoy. The plot kept me on my toes throughout each page, and I couldn't put it down at times. My one complaint would be that Pettrey often has soooo many different storylines going at once that often distract and frustrate me, and don't seem connected to the main story arc. Overall, though, I did enjoy the storylines involving Luke and Yikes! Quite intense.
The romance. Just please no. I found myself so disgusted with all the over-the-top physical attraction that I wasn't rooting for the couple at all. I basically skimmed all those parts. I did appreciate Declan's gentlemanliness in that area. He was very respectful and laidback in that regard, which is so Declan. I also greatly disliked how the couple slept in the same room\same house unchaperoned a few times, even if it was for "protection" and Declan slept on the floor. Made me very uncomfortable.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but not really the romance or characters.
CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 17+ due to romance and violence.
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. It does not impact my review.
I’m a fan of Dani Pettrey and have really enjoyed the Chesapeake Valor series. I’m disappointed to say that this installment, while still a good read, did not live up to my expectations.
It took me a really long time to get into the story. In the previous book, Still Life, there is a subplot with Declan and a potential terrorist attack that I didn’t really like. That subplot becomes the main focus of this book, along with Declan and his romantic interest Tanner, so I think I started off the book a little biased. It took me until over half way through to really start enjoying it. There were a few well done suspenseful moments thrown in, but it wasn’t until the latter half of the book that I really felt the urgency.
It also took me a little while to get on board the Declan and Tanner ship. I did like Declan pretty early on, but I thought Tanner could be a little condescending. There’s also a reveal about Tanner’s big secret, shameful past that greatly annoyed me. There was absolutely nothing for her to be ashamed of and I thought it was kind of disrespectful to the real life people in that position. Tanner did eventually grow on me, though, and I was happy when her relationship with Declan finally progressed. I also liked how their faith was effortlessly written into the story. I didn’t think there was any “big lesson” they had to learn, but their Christian faith was evident in who they were and I liked that.
We also get Griffin’s POV with the second major storyline, the murder of a friend/mentor of the group. I have to say that I was incredibly bored with this storyline. With the terrorism plot, this one just didn’t really seem to matter. I thought that the answers came way too easily, too. And as with the previous book, I don’t understand how all these people are able to share details of official investigations. And how does Griffin have any jurisdiction to pursue someone out of the country? I also thought it was odd that Tanner, who is a crisis counselor, gets to be Declan’s partner once they’re done with her connection to a potential witness. I feel like you have to overlook a lot when it comes to the crime solving in this series.
We get one other person’s POV and it was the one I most enjoyed. We finally get some answers (though vague) on the missing Luke. I had some issues with the way different members of the group reacted to his reappearance, but I guess I can kind of see where they’re coming from. I just hope they get over it quickly in the next book.
Overall, I thought Blind Spot was Pettrey’s most ambitious book yet. I can appreciate the effort to elevate the central mystery to a national threat and not just something that affects someone in the group of friends, but it just fell a little short for me. I had a hard time getting into the story and while I did like Declan and Tanner eventually, I did not enjoy them as much as I did the central couples of the previous books. I did really like the appearance of Luke, though, and am really looking forward to seeing more of him in the next book.
Dani Pettrey starts off this third novel in her Chesapeake Valor series with a bang and the reader is engaged until the very end.
FBI agent Declan Grey is in the chase of his life, but isn't sure exactly what he's chasing after. Threatened by a terrorist that 'the wrath is coming', Declan fears something horrible is about to be unleashed on American soil. He turns to crisis counselor Tanner Shaw for help despite the tension between them. He needs the best of the best on this case and she is it. Declan and Tanner must race against the clock to stop a plot that could cost thousands of lives...including theirs.
If that sounds like a great suspense novel, it is! Dani Pettrey has once again written a novel worthy of staying up late into the night reading. The plot is riveting, thrill upon thrill thrown in with two plot lines going. We meet up again with the great folks from the previous 2 books when they all must race to discover the culprits involved in declaring war on America through terrorism. Pettrey is a master at Christian romantic suspense and this is another thrilling ride as the reader hangs on for dear life as bring the book to a wonderful finish. BUT...there is a book four. And the promise of that book promises us yet another harrowing ride in this suspenseful series.
*I was given a complimentary copy of this book. My opinion is entirely my own.
Blind Spot by Dani Pettrey – Suspenseful Stories and Threats Return to Chesapeake Valor | Actual Rating: 4 1/2 out of 5
As a seasoned pro working as an FBI agent, Declan Grey has seen some strange cases. But none have felt quite so threatening as the one currently occupying his time. Terrorists and threats, along with unknown players hiding in plain sight makes Declan’s case all the tougher. Plus, this one is personal – in more ways than Declan realizes.
With his partner on leave, Declan is paired with Tanner Shaw, a crisis counselor with the agency. Compassionate and dedicated to her work, Tanner is as invested as Declan, particularly, the plight of immigrants. But as the work together, the more their feelings change. Raising more questions than answers is a face from Declan’s past, who returns with ties to their current case. This causes tension, complicating professional and personal lines where lives and feelings are put to the test.
If you’ve read any of Pettrey’s novels prior to this (her most recent) release, you’ll notice patterns. Each of these stories has a kind of unique marker ingrained in their DNA. They begin with some type of high stake case that asks the hero to selflessly protect, while still being remarkably human. By this, I mean that the author has an innate ability to combine both the enigma of a good mystery with that of human interactions (conversations, ties that bind, and developing relationships) seamlessly. It’s a skill she continues to master with each novel.
The only flaw in my reading experience is some confusion. This is something that’s solely the fault of the reader (me!), not the author since everything that was fuzzy is explained in prior books. I didn’t recap the earlier books (Cold Shot, Still Life), all of which lead up to the point we come onto the scene in Blind Spot. The action may give the story momentum, but it’s the characters who we invest fully in. Though I’d be lying if I didn’t say the suspense keeps us curious, really, for me, it’s the characters who keep me turning the pages. Their stories and lives take priority, which is why these books are so good.
Tanner and Declan are both characters I've come to love as supporting character throughout the prior two books. Of course, now they have their own story, we discover more about them. They're as cool as you thought they'd be.
Saying more may result in spoiler-ish territory, so I’ll leave off with simplicity. Go read this one. It’s fast-paced, and quiet (when it needs to be); mysterious and smart, Blind Spot is one not to miss. The only flaw in this otherwise fabulous story? That cliffhanger! It came in unexpectedly and took this reader by surprise. What’s worse is the fourth book (which I didn’t realize we were getting until recently) arrives in 2018 boasting, what I’m sure, will be a story that ties everything together.
Sincere thanks to the publisher for providing a copy of this book; all opinions are my own.
"Blind Spot" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the third book in a series. It's not really a stand-alone novel as main characters from the previous novels have point-of-view roles in this one and there are two ongoing cases being investigated throughout the series.
The characters made some progress on the ongoing cases, including uncovering a terrorist plot. They also had to solve a murder. The suspense came from trying to uncover and stop the terrorist plot before the bad guys pull it off or manage to kill Declan or Tanner (as they're on a hit list). With so much going on, the romance was mostly the two working together and feeling like they're a good influence on each other. Tanner revealed a secret about her past which actually helped resolve a source of conflict between the two.
The characters prayed to God to help them with the case and keep them safe. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Declan and Taylor were both intriguing characters in the previous books and I was very excited to get their story! As the story starts they both are already falling for each other but are afraid that the other person doesn’t share the same level of feelings so they hold back. Then they are put together on a case and get to spend non-stop time with each other, and the truth about how strongly they feel emerges. I absolutely loved Declan and Tanner together! Declan is the strong analytical type and Tanner is about feelings, but their personalities complement each other beautifully despite their differences. There were two cases being worked in this book, Declan and Tanner’s terrorist case and another that was being worked by the rest of the group (who I loved spending more time with). Both mysteries kept me on my toes with twists I didn’t see coming! And the author did a fabulous job of orchestrating everything to flow smoothly and the multiple cases was never confusing or overwhelming! Honestly everything about this book was amazing and I absolutely hated putting it down! And now I am desperate to read book four which I know is going to blow my socks off!! I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
