Kindred #7

Entwined with the Dark

Rate this book
From Amazon Romantic Suspense, Mystery Romance and Fantasy Bestselling Author Nicola Claire comes another exciting continuation of the Kindred Series.

"What was wrong with me to antagonise a vampire of his standing to such a degree? I knew I had become too rebellious, too sure of my own place in this world. I was aware that Dark had been encroaching, that I played so often in its shadow I was losing sight of the sun, of my Light. There were times when I truly felt consumed in anger, for all that had happened, for all that I had suffered and lost."

Leaving Auckland and moving to London, Lucinda has to learn new rules and assimilate into a new life she has no love for. Rebelling against everything that just doesn't seem fair, Lucinda upsets not only the new Master of the City, but the local shapeshifter pack as well. Not to mention her fairy liaison and the Iunctio itself.

Vampires demand her attention and covet her power. Fairies demand her compliance and seek revenge. And the shapeshifters; it's any one's guess what they want, but Lucinda is sure that she's registered on their radar, whatever their radar is set to detect.

A dreary, Gothic, monstrosity of a house, a Nosferatin partner whose scared of the dark, too many rules and too many obligations and things are beginning to fall apart.

But Lucinda is a fighter and fighting for the innocents in her city is not all that she is determined to do. She'll fight for her freedom and for the Light - even as she slowly realises just how far she is already entwined with the Dark.

This series is now getting better and better.

This book finds Lucinda struggling to come to terms with life in London, she's not happy on so many levels, she doesn't like the weather, the house the fact that she reports to Arthur and has to work as a team when she's always gone her own way. Her unhappiness is taking its toll and the fact that she's been in London for weeks and is yet to introduce herself to the Master Vampire of London City is not good.
As always there's some new characters plus some returning old ones including a couple we hoped we wouldn't see again.
I've made no secret of the fact that I've struggled at times with the earlier books and it was with reluctance that I even started the third book and then only because the friend who'd recommended this series assured me I needed to stick with it and I wouldn't be sorry.
I had serious doubts but it turns out she was right, the previous book 'Shadow's Light' was the best so far, that's now been surpassed by this one, I loved this book and I just couldn't read it fast enough, it ended exactly how I hoped it would leaving the next and final book 'Kiss of the Dragon' to fulfil the prophecy, I can't wait.

Holy fucking shit. Yea, that's how I'm starting this review because even after a nights sleep before writing this, that's still what's going through my head.

I am blown away by Nicola Claire, period. I'm thrilled to have been able to have access to the ARCs of this series because even waiting mere days for an actual release would be pure tortue.

There are a multitude of series out there that I believe have been dragged out beyond what the story is really capable of and this being the 7th in this series it may make you wonder if this could be one of them. It's not.

The 7th book picked up not long after the 6th with Luce and Michel moving to London to be closer (but not too close) to the Inuctio for Michel to conduct his new role as Emissary. As Luce became familiar with London she also became more familiar with those that resided there. A new shifter community, a nosferatin community that she had to team up with and help train, and a new master of the city, were just the first few challenges that greeted Luce. On top of all of the new, Luce still had to battle the Fae, the Inuctio, and Avery her new and unwanted kindred. Of course she also had her emotional battles when it came to her and Michel.

So much happened in this book it was unreal. A monumentous amount of action, sex, love, anger, happiness... You name it and it was present at some point in this book and I found myself feeling it all just the same.

I smiled when Luce and Michel had their loving moments and couldn't believe how much more I fell in love with those two. I didn't think that was even possible. They are in fact one of the most epic couples in my eyes and it is just written beautifully.

Everything and everyone in this book and all the other books, are written wonderfully to the point that I'm glued to the pages at every moment always wanting and needing to know what's next. Never a dissapointment and filled with surprises. I can't imagine how I am going to calm myself until the next book.

The last chapters had my heart racing and my reading sped up as my mind was going frantic as to what was happening. I hated that it ended where it did but I absolutely loved it. It almost seems like maybe Michel and Luce have a few of their issues resolved but I know they will still have problems ahead. It's Luce, she's always on the brink of destruction and death ;). I can't wait to read the rest of their journey together and see how they deal with Michels new job and a few other things of course. I couldn't be happier at where this has led and where I think it's going to lead in the next book.

I got a free copy from the author for a honest review:

WOW - OMG - ....just speechless.... this is one of the best books I have read for a very, VERY long time ( and I do read a lot of books ).

The 7th book of the "Kindred" series is not lacking in anything after its predecessors. It keeps up with them in every single detail and what makes it even more impressive, surpasses them. Nicola Claire is an author, who is able to eclipse herself with every book she writes and "Entwined with the Dark" is no exception. It reminded me , why she is one of my favorite authors.

The action , the characters, the emotions which run between all of them - heroes and villains alike - are so intriguing and entwining ( pun intended ) that a reader has no other choice but to keep reading till the last page is finished.

The end is a final climax a la Nicola Claire - leaving the reader/the observer of the story with open mouth and wide eyes. I wrote it before and I write it again, this author has the ability to keep you an your toes and on the look out for surprises and never, NEVER EVER think it will go the way YOU actually think it will go.

So pick up the series, if you haven't already , take a few days off - yes, it is THAT good - and dive into the "Kindred: series head on. Enjoy !

Thank you for the free copy to review this fantastic book!

There were parts in this book that had me holding my breath, some that had me in tears, I laughed out loud and I couldn't put it down at times when there was such a lead up I was hoping for a good out come but you never really know with your books if it will be all happily ever after or another completely twisted and agonizing path for the characters to battle their way through. The ending has me really wanting to just get on with the final book. I don't think I've ever read such a thrilling ending to a book...Please hurry lol.

Looking forward to reading the new contemporary book you've written.the copy of your new contemporary book. I'll try harder to put it down in the morning so the kids are a bit earlier for school than just before the bell!

Keep up the great work :-)

This series is hands down, one of my favorites. Lucinda is strong and courageous, even when all hope seems to be gone. Michel is sweet, and powerful, and completely dedicated to her. I think I even like his vampyre/dragon side as much as the man. The characters, even those that are in the background, are well written and special. I would definitely recommend the whole series to anyone who love vampire and supernatural stories.

So much happened in this book, the light fae Prince is no more and I am still uncertain why the dragon shifter didn't allow him to return to their world. And also what hold does the Champion have on him and his kind for him to do her bidding.

I am upset that's Gigi hasn't gotten over herself and accepted what she is. I can't believe she tried to kill Luce.

In the end the dark fae Queen was unpredictable and the Champion actually stepping in and saving Lucinda was a shocker. As to what the Champion did in the end with Michel, now that was truly unexpected.

### About the Author

Nicola Claire lives in beautiful Taupo, New Zealand with her husband and two young boys. She's tried her hand at being a paramedic, bank teller and medical sales representative, (not all necessarily in that order), but her love of writing keeps calling her back. She has a passion for all things supernatural, spiced up with a good dollop of romance - as long as they include strong characters, alpha males and capable females, and worlds which although make-believe are really quite believable in the end. There's nothing better than getting caught up in a compelling, intriguing and romantic book. When she's not writing or reading, she's out on her family boat at Lake Taupo, teaching her young boys to fish, showing them the beauty that surrounds them in nature and catching some delicious trout for dinner. Kindred has been a joy to write, creating a rich world with dynamic characters and paranormal twists that shock and awe has been pure bliss for this author. And just as well, because there's a lot more story yet to tell...

As always, another great installment. Nicola always gives us what we are looking for and more. Lucinda and the gang are no longer in Auckland. They are now staying in London and she is having a hard time adjusting to London. Not only is she having a hard time with living there, but Michel is gone thee days at a time. And that is also affecting a lot of her emotions. With her being in a new city, she has to introduce herself to the Master of the city. Which she didn’t do at first, and it was a challenge seeing this Master of the city because he looks so much like her trainer Nero. And not to mention that he is very interested in her for some reason.

Everyone wants a piece of Lucinda. Let’s start with the Faries. My, my, my, Lutin was very convinced that Lucinda was pregnant. And even with his last breath, he want to know how the baby was. I’m not for sure if she is carrying his child, but I think she is caring someone’s child. And I say that because Michel’s Vampire was very and still is very protected over her. And even more now that they thought she was pregnant. Then the dragon (Sebastian) even recognized that she was pregnant. I guess we will see in the next installment.
Then you have to Iunctio. This group here is something else. Well maybe the Champion is something else. She thinks it’s Lucinda fault because the power between her and Avery is weakening. But Lucinda is determined to fight for what is right and that includes the city and her family. And what happens at the end with the Champion and Michel has left my mouth open. I am so ready to read the next installment!!

Oh and not to for get about the Dark King. And I wonder if we will here from the light Feye since we know what happened to Lutin, he mother might have an appearance. This is going to be interesting in the next book.

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!

Finally got it right

This one finally got it right. There was lots of drama and action, but we finally got a book that kept them together and grew them stronger and fixed so many of the past blunders. My last review made clear what I thought of Avery as Lives kindred. I could have handled it if she had been kidnapped and forced while she was out cold or something like that. I just had a really hard time with the way it went down and the ways it could have been prevented. So many of the past mistakes this author made could have brought the same drama if it had been handled in a different way. I had a problem with the way she chose to bring things about. Except the affair. Yeah, that should never have happened. I understood Michels cheat as he was under a spell and didn't know the person. Lust wise, Lucinda was always too weak of a character and it didn't reflect well on her. I get not everyone is perfect but most people don't want cheating in their romances. Like I said, I think a good editor could have prevented all these frustrating mistakes without really taking anything away from the story, except some frustration for the readers. Still would have been highly emotional, without feeling the dark trying g to take over!

In the seventh book of the series, Lucinda is not doing too great. She's having a hard time dealing with living in London, not to mention Michel won't talk to her about things that involve the Champion, and then she can feel the Dark clinging to her. Not only does she have to worry about all of that, but there could be a chance she can get things back to how they use to be. But if she doesn't work together with her kindred, then more bad things might start to happen as well.

This book was really good! I loved how Lucinda and Michel were trying to adjust to their new lives, and make everything work. It was hard to watch them go through that, but in the end I think they did really well. I also really enjoyed getting to see Lucinda battle her Dark. I loved that! Now, I can not believe the story will end in the next book, but I'm extremely excited for it!

I can’t stand the Iunctio!

Lucinda and Michel just can’t get a break. Although deeply in love one or the other has to be horribly abused by someone on that dang Iunctio or by the Fairies (Dark and light). The couple is constantly separated and without the bond have communication issues that didn’t crop up while they were connected and before their political responsibilities became paramount to their vampires and vampire hunters safety. The struggle to remain in the light and the vampires continue stabbing each other in the back so it is no wonder Avery, Vicktor and the new London Master of the City can’t be trusted. The introduction of a new shifter who isn’t helping Luce means London is dreary for more reasons than the weather. It is bittersweet to look forward to the last in this series.

Well, this is book 7 in the series, and if I'm being honest, most series by this stage have run out of steam and have nothing to offer the reader in terms of excitement or newness in the story telling. But holy shit, I kid you not, I just can't put these books down. Michel and Luce are just so good together, the snatches we get when they are is just pure love, sex, excitement and fulfilment. But they have so much to put up with and fight against! There is s lot happening in this book and you need to keep up to speed with the twists and turns. But by the final few chapters I was on the edge of my seat as to the outcome, so much could go wrong?! Fantastic book, straight on to the next one for me!!

Why oh why are there cliffhangers

First of all there was plenty of action occurring throughout this book. Again, the author toys with our emotions, causing an emotional rollercoaster. As, the author does frequently, she shows you the other side of the characters. For instance, a villain such as Avery, you want to hate yet you anal feel pity for him too and he is not the only one. There is unexpected deaths and betrayals. The biggest point to this book was playing the political game. Of course, the author ends with a cliffhanger that just makes your mouth drop open.

Genre: Paranormal, Romance
Rating: 5 Stars and then some!

I LOVED this story, the seventh instalment in the Kindred Series. Packed full of action, suspense and drama, then wrapped up in some heart warming romance. I feel like I know all the characters and am a part of this world now. This book was so intriguing, layer upon layer of captivating story unfolds throughout. Extremely well written and wow! What an ending. Can't wait for the last book to come out.

What??? So like I thought with my last review. The way things went were solely to have a story for this book and this book spent almost the entire time fixing the mistakes made in the last. Now the last chapter I didn’t see coming. But I’ve been able to predict the details from a few books back. This was the first one I didn’t see until it was right on me.

Love this whole series and I am sad that it had to end. This by far is better than twilight or any other vampire book I have read. I wish this would become a movie so bad. I am in love with each character and she portrayed them all so well. Amazing!!
