this book came up at work as reference reading in a task force i was in called workhappy. that was a few months ago, and i finally got around to reading it.
as a 'serious' reader, i was turned off by some aesthetic points of the book - the cheesy t-shirt sayings at the end of each chapter, the A to Z approach organizationally and purple quoted text. aside from these qualities, the content itself is solid, quick to read and contains valuable advice.
i've been working in an organization for six years, where my position and the place itself has gone through immense change. as part of that, i've had to adapt my personal work style and take fresh approaches to my work. this book points out some of these tactics and more. you can read the book in a couple different ways - straight through as i did, or flip to particular sections to brush up in certain areas.
i believe no matter what position you're in, you'd come away from the book with strategies to navigate the workplace and hopefully a healthier attitude in the workplace. it's a must read for any working person.

Really enjoyed the book. Easy read and a lot of great reminders on work performance. The writing is silly at times but I was looking for something light hearted but also relevant to me right now.
Subtitled “26 ways to get what you want at work.” This engaging and informative book is composed of 26 chapters, one for each letter of the alphabet, with guidance and examples related to issues like asking the right questions, taking responsibility for your career, setting goals and communicating effectively. Each chapter is quite readable, with stories in the words of people seeking to “get what they want.” The final chapter of the book provides guidance if you determine that you cannot get what you want where you are. The book is full of quotes (my favorite is “If you don’t ask for what you want, you’ll simply have to take what you get”), as well as a “tee-shirt message” (including where it was spotted) at the end of each chapter that relates to the topic. This is an companion volume to an earlier book written to companies called Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em. According to the authors, the five key themes of the book are 1) what you need could be found right where you are; 2) you’re in charge; 3) there are (at least) twenty-six ways to take the initiative; 4) don’t wait and 5) double-check those greener pastures.
DO NOT EVER LEAVE YOUR JOB,AGAIN DO NOT EVER LEAVE UR JOB! whatever happens do not leave your job that is what the book is advocating, the question is: why would anyone leave his job? 1-because you want a raise or a promotion? then ask for it! 2-because you want to take some rest? then ask for a vacation. 3-because you want to attend a class or a workshop? then talk to your manager and tell him how beneficial this class will be for your job. talk to your manager and be honest with him maybe he /she have the key to all your problem. if you decided to leave your job then investigate first about where you want to go and always remember that the grace look greener there, in such economy it is better to stick to your job!
This is a great time to recommit to your vocation and I believe that "wherever you go, there you are". These tips empower and deepen one's sense of purpose. I always like Bev Kaye's material. Her suggestions are so practical and straightforward to implement. Don't be fooled though; she has definitely achieved simplicity on the far side of complexity as her tips are the prescription for the existential funk so many experience at this time of year.
A tag line from the jacket back summarizes it nicely - "What are you waiting for? Your organization to care? Your boss to go? Your colleague to stop being a jerk? -- This book is the antidote to waiting...
