EDIT 12/17/16: I received an early copy of this coloring book. All the pages are perforated and the typography quotes are lovely! Something happened with the scene images though, and when they were enlarged for the page, they're kind of blurry and out of focus? Still gonna color and enjoy, of course, but my favorite quote isn't in there and I feel personally attacked.
EDIT 10/19/16: THERE'S A COVER. THERE IS A COVER.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS GOING TO BE REAL. IN SILENT SCREAMS, IN WILDEST DREAMS, I NEVER DREAMED OF THIS.
This Colouring book is absolutely stunning!! If you have read The Selection Series you will love it. If you haven't read The Selection Series, well I suggest you do then buy this gorgeous colouring book. You will fall in love with the Series and the Colouring book. I love it how Kiera Cass calls us adorable little nerds... its so true. I actually brought two incase I stuff up a page, lol. I can't wait to colour it all in.
No hay ilustración que no sea una belleza, cada dibujo logra retratar muy bien la esencia del libro, me encanta recordar las escenas cada vez que lo miro y las frases que eligieron son preciosas, totalmente recomendado para pasar el rato pintando.
Selection fans get excited! THE SELECTION COLORING BOOK, based on the series by Kiera Cass, is getting ready to celebrate its year anniversary of being in print and it would make the perfect holiday gift! The beautiful illustrations by Sandra Suy are separated into sections for each of the five books, and incorporates fan favorite moments as vetted by Cass herself. Cass regrettably notes that “Maxon getting kneed in the junk isn’t in there,” but as she says, “We can’t have everything.”
The drawings are as glamorous as I would hope. I love how elegant the dresses and details are, which brings me right back into the world of the story. I was happy to see images of Aspen and America in the treehouse, the wedding from THE ONE, and the kitchen scene from THE HEIR. Sometimes, it’s a little hard to tell which characters are in the actual illustrations, so I would have liked a caption or an excerpt from the book at the bottom of each picture. It’s more fun for me to color these when I know exactly what’s going on!
There are also recognizable quotes from the novels, presented with lovely patterns to color. Some of them are, “True love is usually the most inconvenient kind,” “The sky is blue, the sun is bright, and Aspen endlessly loves America,” and “Maybe it’s not the first kisses that are supposed to be special. Maybe it’s the last ones.” The lettering by Martina Flor, different for each quote, is dazzling.
Coloring books in general are said to be a great way to relieve stress and calm down. They are also a creative and artistic outlet, infinitely more exciting when the source material is from beloved novels. I personally have a stack of coloring books and THE SELECTION COLORING BOOK is my favorite. Not only is there so much variety and happily ever after feels, but “It’s so much more than that.”
Acabo de terminar de colorear este libro despues de varios años, pero ha valido totalmente la pena. Las escenas estan muy bien cuidadas y los detalles son increibles. Lo ame completamente
Recently the world has remembered something which I have never forgotten: coloring books are awesome.
If you walk into any bookstore I can almost promise you that you will find a section of “adult coloring books.” While the fad started with nature scenes and mandalas, it soon found its way into the world of literature --- and, honestly, I couldn’t be happier. Now you can color in pictures of your favorite literary scenes. Recently, after falling in love with the Selection series, I came upon THE SELECTION COLORING BOOK and fell in love again. Obviously the pictures of America (the main character) in her beautiful gowns were lovely, but what really caught my eye were the pages of quotes. Around half of the coloring pages are beautiful outlines of some of the most heartfelt quotes from the series. Those were the pages I liked the most.
It is so easy to see words used negatively. Two minutes on social media throws hundreds and thousands of mean comments and internet trolls at your face. But two minutes in a novel reminds you that language can exist on an entirely different level. Two minutes in a novel reminds you that words can bud and bloom and grow within your heart into something truly beautiful. Keira Cass's coloring book does exactly this, while allowing the reader --- or colorer, as it were --- to express their love of the series using their own imagination.
THE SELECTION COLORING BOOK is a perfect example of this. Kiera Cass has taken her beautiful words and turned them into physical works of art.
If there is anything I have learned from spending the past two days with a pile of colored pencils it is to cherish words.
