I give this book 5 stars, it's as gripping and well written as the others, but the story is just sad, sad, sad. After his odyssey, Harka has become chief of his group of Oglala Lakota, his new name is Tokei-ihto (meaning: Go first, straight through). But the days of the Plains Indians' traditional lifestyle on their land and of their freedom are numbered. Tokei-ihto, sent to a fort of the white "long knives" as a parliamentary, gets arrested and locked away under inhuman conditions, believed dead by his tribe until an old white friend of his youth fights for and achieves his release.
While he is imprisoned, the battle of the Little Bighorn and some other battles take place, and after some victories the Indians are defeated and forced onto reservations, among them Tokei-ihto's group.
Now for the grand finale ...
