This is the first book I have ever read in Dale Mayer’s “A Psychic Visions” series. Even though this is Book #12, I can assure you that this book works very well as a stand-alone book.
Issa, the heroine, has the ability to silently communicate with birds. She lived in Ireland, and has three older brothers. In spite of her brothers, and her mother and father, Issa has always felt like an outsider and unloved by her family.
When her father and her brothers die, Issa and her mother move to America. Issa gets a doctorate in Environmental Sciences. Then, because she feels closer to birds than to her mother, Issa moves to the country and lives alone with her birds.
However, after her mother dies, she is kidnapped by a group of people who attempt to get some information from her. Since, she has no idea what they are seeling, they hold her for months until she finally manages to escapes.
When she finally collapses, she is near the home of Eagle, a retired military pilot, who lives alone. He, also, has an infinity for birds, although not as in depth as Issa. He takes in injured birds so he can heal them back to good health, and, then return them to their homes. One of the injured birds happens to be Issa’s falcon. He was injured by the “bad guys” as they kidnapped Issa. The falcon recognizes Issa and “calls” Eagle to help her.
This book hooks you in immediately, as a battered Issa is attempting to escape from her captors. Eagle nurses her back to health, as Issa attempts to contact Humbug, her owl that was also injured, and who is now missing. One of Issa’s goal is to get Humbug back so she can take care of him.
I love the characters in this novel. Issa is smart, strong and independent. In spite of her condition, she works hard to contact Humbug and lead him home. Also, she and Eagle travel to Ireland to investigate what her kidnappers want from her, otherwise they will kidnap her again. In spite of her condition, Issa goes with Eagle.
Eagle is a compassionate man who takes Issa in and keeps her presence secret even though he has no idea who she is. Alone, he patiently takes care of her. While Issa tries to figure out where Humbug is and tries to get him back, Eagle accepts a lot of strange events even though he is definitely confused and shocked.
I found this book interesting and exciting, I, absolutely, plan to read the rest of this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this title and voluntarily reviewed it.
