Anzai, thanks to his reawakened memories from his childhood, is called in to the MPD to give a statement on Kikuhara. After the dissolution of F Squad, Jill struggles with a sense of being unmoored. Lee has gained a reputation as a bit of a devil-hero, but shadowy figures from his past start to catch up to him. And deep in the forest somewhere in Gunma Prefecture, Makimura opens his eyes...
A little boring in my opinion. This volume was focused on the stories of wannabe couples; in MPD: Sawazaki and Jill, and in CCC: Makimura and Mayu. Actually, they don't even have chemistry, so I didn't like it. I would rather read more about the devils' line bloodlust research than forced, push and pull love teams.
This was a lot of filler focusing on Makimura and zero eleven. That wouldn't be such a bad thing except Mayu (11) is literally one of the most obnoxious, jealous, insecure and unlikable characters I've come across in years. I could care less about her budding feelings about Makimura. She jumps to conclusions, she's petty and honestly wish she had died in the last book because she adds so very little to this.
About the only things I liked was the cover (though Lee doesn't really make an appearance) and Anzai facing off with a hate group at the end. Hopefully the next book won't be so slow and boring because I enjoy this series, just not this installment (and hopefully it'll add into the story better somewhere down the road).
So much is going on still. I am not sure I understood everything that happened in this volume and I hope some of it is cleared up in the next one. Did her sister call to turn her and him in? Why were soo many of those people on the train? just a lot of hmmmmm
This volume was a little boring to me, but I also can’t stand Mayu 😅. So that’s a me problem, but I was bored and couldn’t wait for it to end. If I don’t get more Anzai and Tsukasa soon, I’m gonna crash out.
This volume focused more on Makimura and Mayu, also known as Eleven. Mayu is often very annoying. Quite childish. But I think this volume showed a bit of a different side to her. Hopefully, she continues to change.
Not a bad volume. It was interesting to see how Makimura and Mayu's relationship is changing.
5+ Stars. While the main couple is on hold, I'm really loving Mayu's love story and how their progress is basically this whole volume. I'm going to forever root for them, and hope all comes together in the end with all the Devils and non-devils.
I feel as though the art in this volume and the last has improved from some previous volumes. Or perhaps I’m just not remembering it well. But it really does seem like the mangaka’s proportions have improved. In addition to that, I really like how they draw their characters really changing like normal people do when they’ve gone through similar circumstances. Not just a change of hair but even their skin and body language changes. It’s something really impressive to see expressed in this sort of art style and I really appreciate and like it. Most noticeably of all are the changes in Jill and Mayu (and Tsukasa, who has seen the most frequent changes throughout the entirety of the series), but that includes the rest of the cast as well, even Kikuhara, and Anzai. Speaking of which, I enjoyed seeing their very unique and somewhat complex friendship, and the effects it holds on their actions and choices, as well as in how they go about treating each other from now on. Not only that, but there’s so many things from earlier on in the series to recall now that they’re coming to light in the second half. Besides that, there was an awful lot of romance in this volume. Perhaps because it was all about healing, and people tend to develop strong bonds under such circumstances, especially when shared. Sometimes all somebody may want is someone else to understand them better than anyone, sometimes they want a soothing and genuine presence by their side, sometimes they don’t want to be alone, and sometimes they just want to keep a special someone safe at all costs. Is it love? Love is something hard to define and to pin down, and I like that the mangaka is showing us that while we know what love is from Tsukasa and Anzai’s relationship, not every love is like that, not every love is the same, and sometimes we feel things which appear like love but they’re not. People have to learn, observe, think, feel, and sometimes we’ll find out what it is we’re yearning for. I do hope that everyone finds a happy end, including Kikuhara. I’ve begun to develop a soft spot for him, despite what we learned about him in Anzai’s memories from the last volume. It’s bound to happen when we see so much from one character. It’s easy to begin to see the good in someone. Perhaps Anzai did.

This is the first volume that I hadn't read yet in my previous two forays into this series.
I honestly liked this volume a lot, even though it was mostly focused on characters other than Tsukasa and Yuuki. I like that there's such attention paid to so many different characters; they have a lot of depth, and there are still so many hidden agendas.
A large portion of it was focused on Makimura's recovery, and the would-be relationship between him and Mayu/Eleven. I like Makimura, and the way that he thinks about his own feelings is interesting. Eleven just isn't a compelling character even with this glimpse into her life with such a "beautiful" family that she's always felt inferior to. I don't think she's ugly (though she was drawn way prettier in the first few volumes she made appearances in, so it feels like she's being made goofier-looking lately), but she's like 27 and acts like a petulant teenager. I don't see the chemistry here.
Then we have Jill and Sawazaki. Sawazaki looks SO GOOD with the bit of scruff he's got going on now, ooooof. They've been tiptoeing around each other all this time, but it seems like Team Papa's feelings are more guilt-based because of the Yukimori events years back. Or at least, he won't consider anything with Jill because he doesn't want her to deal with the repercussions of a relationship with a human. But we don't see into his head too much this time around.
We also see a little bit of Lee and some interactions with Dr. Feng. Lee is one of my favorites (and I love this cover!), so it was good to have at least a little bit of a look into what he's been doing.
We then have some more Yuuki-focused events, and that bitch-ass former professor Ochiai makes an appearance with devil hunters. More Kikuhara twists, of course.
Calmada, acogedora. Profunda, brillante."
Devils' Line, Vol. 9 is pure chaos and emotion, and I loved every second of it. The story is reaching peak intensity, with the tension between devils and humans exploding into full-blown conflict. Anzai’s journey continues to be one of the most compelling parts of this series—his struggle with his nature, his need to protect Tsukasa, and his search for control make him such a layered protagonist. And Tsukasa? She’s proving once again that she’s not just a bystander—she’s strong in her own way, and her emotional depth makes every scene hit even harder.
The action in this volume is brutal, and the stakes feel higher than ever. The political intrigue is getting even more intense, and the way the story balances heart-pounding fights with deep, emotional moments is so well done. The art continues to be stunning, with every expression and fight scene feeling raw and real. At this point, the series is unstoppable—if you’re already invested, Vol. 9 will blow your mind. Five stars, no question—I’m obsessed and cannot wait to see what happens next!
So I didn’t expect it but I enjoyed all the extra side stories basically going on while our two main characters are separated. I didn’t expect two possible budding romances at all. I hope in the end they both work out even if it’s just them getting closer to a possible relationship. I loved seeing the fact that Makimura is alive and thriving. Plus the fact that Marus family just kind of swooped him up and they are taking care of him. So sweet. Also I’m going to be super bad if the older sister was so butt hurt about the rejection that she called the police like really girl. Also why did Kikuhara decide to help anzai out when he very obviously doesn’t really like devils in the first place???

Tensions are high as mobs of devil hunters attack innocent devils and try to provoke them into transforming. But... this volume is only partially about that. The biggest part of this series is the relationships.
Yuki and Kikuhara have a short conversation. Hans Lee is forced to abandon Feng. Jill and Sawazaki are having trouble connecting because Sawazaki is so oblivious. Mayu and Makimura have two whole chapters and an extra chapter at the end.
But all of this is somehow converging on Obihiro with Yuki's mom.
This volume focuses on couples other than Anzi and Tsukasa. Mayu and Takeshi have run away and recovered from the assault they endured by the CCC in the countryside. I found this much to be a filler volume. I thought it was okay and sure good for the storyline to see these people as individuals but damn be! Mayu is not only quite ugly (by all means get that plastic surgery girl!) she is just beyond annoying. Don't see how the fact Takeshi sees anything in her. Ugh. Onto the next volume.
Revisiting the manga after 5ish(?) years. Every thing about it is right up my alley. Supernatural-esque, “bad boy”/“dark” type male character, a bit of romance, a bit of violence.
Again there was a lull in action but I thought they did a good job with showing how everyone has been during the small time skip - hits a little different after experiencing the world shutting down and literally not being able to see people you used to see daily 😅
I was worried that this volume would be tough to get through due to the direction that the story was going but the author has yet to fail me and I'm happy to say, that continues to be the trend. This was, honestly, probably one of the more heartwarming volumes in this series so far and I appreciate that Hanada supplemented one vital storyline with others, ones that I am so grateful we get to see played out. Hanada manages to stick to the theme and give the readers what they are looking for once again!
Okay I am saying this again.... I am addicted to this series! I really liked this volume. I loved to see all the blossoming romances! Not sure what I am going to do while I have to wait for volume 12 to come out next spring!
Why is Lee being hunted, mayu and maki would be so cute together. Still don’t trust ishimaru or kikuhara. And I hope when the meet up again anzai and tsukasa at bare minimum run into each others arms.
