Alice friend-zones Steve, starts dating the rich boy at school, Steve refuses to accept it, and at the end of the book she gets back together with him? I think this is sending the wrong message.

Pretty standard early 90's YA thriller has a babysitter accused of a recent string of burglaries. The cops are interested in her, since she's had babysitting jobs at each of the robbed houses. Eventually the burglaries turn into murders, and then the cops are REALLY interested in her.

But what's going on, who's really at fault here? Is it her new boyfriend, who SEEMS nice and helpful but could be hiding something? Or her ex-boyfriend, who's a total jerk and bugs the crap out of everyone? Or one of her jealous friends, recently drinking too much, could she be to blame?

I had a hard time getting into this one. I guessed the villain. I will say, there was danger and suspense. Alice, the protagonist did get caught in a web. But there were under developed elements, too.

Actual page number- 211 pages

Pros- The predicament the main character's in does keep me interested as in turning pages to see what happens next.

Main character's likable. While Alice doesn't have outstanding characteristics since her character is the nice and studious girl, I do feel sympathy for her due to her struggles from her plight.

Action scenes, while minimal, does bring some bang into the book.

Cons- I feel the book's more dramatic since there's less action and more focus on the character's struggles. Don't mind this but this is horror/suspense so there should more actions that can heighten psychological tension.

Not scary or at least no attempts to be scary which can drag the book a bit.

Twist is meh. I was partially correct on finding out the culprit but the overall twist wasn't that shocking and rather seems typical for the genre.

Overall, this is a decent book for those into drama and mystery, not much for horror readers unless you like to read any books about babysitters facing horrific events.

I think Alice's parents should have had more faith in her. The situation looked bad for sure, and though they didn't really think she was guilty, they did think she was holding out on crucial info.

I didn't like the cops in this book at all, the head guy was definitely the kind that makes some people hate police officers and detectives.

Alice's friend Steve was bordering on being a stalker if you ask me. I don't care how concerned he was about Alice. He needed to step off, but he seemed unable to comprehend that.

I really wasn't thrilled with this one. I had the wrong person pegged for the villian and the ending could have been alot better.

I read this a long time ago so I may be remembering it in a favourable light. It was a book I inappropriately loved when I was seven/eight. Yeah.
