This story was great but too short! Kathryn Le Veque is the best author i have ever read and I encourage you to read all her novels they are full of adventure, detail and love. This short story was sweet and I didn't like the hero at first but by the end the author explained why he was the way he was. Loved it.
(audible review) Well, this story was just okay. Kind of ridiculous and Ren started out kind of creepy. I didn't like him at all until the end of the book so that is not good. It would have been better to have some more about his background prior to making him liar and a creeper.
Holly was kind of boring. Just sayin..
I didn't think this was a very good short story. IMO. Maybe for others it was good but nor really for me.
As for the narration it was good. Sean Patrick Hopkins did a good job on the female voices and had a sexy voice for Ren and a nice reading voice.
I didn’t like the hero, Sir Rennington of Ashbourne, particularly at the end of the story. He was too suave, his voice too kind. (probably has something to do with the narrator’s approach) Of course, the reader hears what he is thinking. Even when he, himself, realizes he’s a jerk, I couldn’t forgive him. He changes only when he is cornered, realizing what he was doing to his best friend’s angel, Holly, and feeling guilty. Guilt doth not make a man honorable. I’m not able to get past this point.
If Holly had been another woman, he would have pursued her and not felt badly tricking her. No, he wasn’t my cup of tea. In my mind, he didn’t redeem himself.
Holly isn’t a very likable heroine, either. She is easily duped. I see some seeds of strength in her, but she easily is manipulated by Sir Rennington and then forgives him. I didn’t like that she could dismiss so easily her sisters’ concerns to have her consider marriage. Again, I think it is because of the shortness of the novella, preventing the fleshing of and feelings of the characters) I couldn’t find anything in her to admire.
The narrator’s voice is annoying at times when in both hero and heroine dialogue he breathes in at the end of the phrase. I started listening to that rather than the story!
The plot is a good one along with the setting—a time of miracles at Christmas time and magic. As a novella of 76 pages, character development and supporting scenes to make these characters soar with the season, just didn’t happen.
I normally love everything this writer pens. I listened to the story a couple of days ago, and still my thinking remains the same.
Sebenernya bagus ceritanya. Tapi karena novella, jadinya terlalu singkat. Chemistrynya juga terlalu terburu-buru. Padahal menurut saya udah oke sih kalau dibuat novel panjangnya.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. A knight, returned from the crusades, is privy to a conversation between two sisters, who was plotting to place mistletoe beneath the pillow of the eldest sister, so she might dream of her future husband, and turn away from her lost love, who had died two years past. This conversation gave the knight an idea, which he followed up on. However, neither he or the lady concerned would have ever conceived of the outcome to his actions. Short, but none the least sweet romantic tale.
A lone knight returned from the Crusades in a church, two sisters plotting a way to marry off their elder sister so they can marry also. Plan was hatch by the knight and token was received. Real news about best friend and lost love is uncovered, and the plan is shattered. Will love and forgiveness prevailfor the Knight and the Lady? Kathyn Le VeQue can spin a tale that will keep you so enthrall that you seen almost there.

I picked this story because I wanted a fast read, and medieval Christmas novellas are catnip. Imagine my surprise when I found a lot of emotion packed into a few pages, with medieval characters who thought and acted like medieval characters. A party knight, a grieving lady, a false dream, real hope, and the magic of Christmas make for a very satisfying read.
A lonely knight trying to sleep in the alcove of the church. He is awaken by their chatter. Two sisters feeling that they will never marry, their oldest sister refused to marry. The sisters and the knight start get together to find her a husband. This is a good book to read .
Hollys sisters urge her to find a nan to marry so they can then search for a husband. But Holly lost her fiance and feels she will never love again. Sir Rennington overhears her sisters talking about Holly. He starts out deceptively trying to woo Holly. But revelations and Christmas will show how God has a plan for both of them.
I just read the most beautiful love story I have read be fore and can't wait to start another she is very good I will have to agreed. Thank you for a great story. Ada G.
The magic of Christmas is in this story. Two souls mourning the loss of a loved one are brought together through fate only to find love in each other. An enjoyable story.
Upon A Midnight Dream is a Christmas Novella written by Kathryn Le Veque. Le Veque is a masterful author. Her knowledge of medieval history and her ability to write romance create wonderful stories. This was a great novella. I enjoyed the tale of Rennington and Holly is a sweet love story with redemption at its heart. I am looking forward to more by Le Veque.
A sad story of a poor knight who is without family or home. Because of something he overheard at a church he was sleeping in he decides to pursue the lonely young woman whose intended as died.
I liked the book but it wasn’t like your others where you tell about children and other things. The next book sounds interesting and if it is on KU I will read it.
An impoverished knight returned from the Holy Land overhears two sisters in the church lamenting the unmarried state of their sister. A celebration for her birthday and Christmas becomes an opportunity for the knight to pursue the Lady. But deceit becomes remorse when he discovers he was truly sent by God. A lovely love story
I read this as part of the Under the Kissing Bough Collection.
I liked this novella, but I didn't love it.
Ren is a knight with no land or home, he has been wandering since his return from the crusades. When he overhears two young ladies discussing their older sister who refuses to wed, thus giving them leave to wed, he hatches a plan.
Holly is grieving the loss of her betrothed, he died about 2 years ago while on the crusades, she has refused to move on or to marry - much to the dislike of her father and sisters.
When she meets Ren, she feels something for the first time in years and longs to know the man better. When she finds out that he knew her betrothed and was with him at the end, she wants to know more.
Ren has spun a web of lies to capture the fair Holly, but when he realizes that she was betrothed to his best friend, he has a change of heart and can't go through with his deception.
This book was OK, I didn't care for the scheme that Ren planned and I didn't really feel the romance between the leads. But it is well written and has a sweet ending.
Holly St. Maur was born at Christmas, and her father had chosen that time to end her mourning of a lost love by inviting suitors for her to choose from! Enter Sir Rennington of Ashbourne who was not invited but heard her sisters plan to force a marriage and he planned to use those plans for himself! The revelations of that night led to a chance of peace for both!
A lovely story. I especially liked how Ren confessed to the lies he fed Holly that showed he was truly an honorable man. This was a fast read. Even though I have enjoyed all of Ms. LeVeque stories this was very different and also very enjoyable. She is by far one of my favorite authors.
's. LeVeque is one of my favorite authors. She truly has a gift for words making a story. This short work brings a lesson in forgiveness when a knight uses a serendipitous opportunity to fulfill a dream and relieve his and a ladies loneliness.
A short story just right for Christmas, or any happy holiday desired. True to all these historical novels, you get a feeling for the age it is set in and a HEA ending. Lovely read!
