Christopher Masters is a first class rake. Having retired as a spy, he thinks he may spend the next year or two gambling and drinking as a way to forget the horrors of his past. Quite suddenly, he is thrown into a new role entirely when he inherits the title and properties of the Earl of Winthrop. He has no desire for such a role but even more distressing is the ward that accompanies the estate.
Lady Elizabeth knows that her future is uncertain. But when a handsome new earl arrives and announces that the will requires her to marry within the year, all hope is lost. Having cared for her father these past months, she is less than a wallflower. At least those ladies attended the ball. But if she doesn't marry, a new Earl might take Chris' place, Bernard Sinclair. She can't explain it, but his attention frightens her more than she can express.
As Chris attempts to help Lizzie find a suitable husband, his attraction for her cannot be denied. Will his past cripple his future or can Lizzie tame the rake into a lord?
Taming a Rake into a Lord is the fourth book in the Taming the Heart series, although each book in the series works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. Having read books two and three, I can say they flow nicely from one to the next, allowing us a small introduction to the characters before their story becomes an entire book. Even without these small insights, I would have enjoyed this one – having read two of the three prior books simply made it easier for me to truly appreciate the story. It also highlighted that I really need to go and read book one, so that I have read the entire set of stories.
Compared to the prior books, Taming a Rake into a Lord is a very quick read. All of the books are short enough to be completed in a single sitting, should you wish, but this one felt even shorter. Personally, I would have liked it if this story had been a bit longer. I wanted to be pulled into the story more than I was. As shown by my four star rating, I enjoyed this one, yet it felt as though it was lacking in the depth that I enjoyed so much in the third book. For me, of the three I’ve read, the third book in the series is my favourite. Coming from the third book into this one so soon meant I was still on the high of book three and was expecting great things.
Don’t get me wrong, there are many wonderful things about this one. I’m not saying it’s a bad book, simply that I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I enjoyed the prior book.
Events hit you one after the other, with everything coming together at a rapid pace. This is wonderful considering the length of the book: even though I wished it were longer, the pacing was perfect for a read of this length. There’s plenty of romance to be seen, and the action has a great pace when it occurs. Truthfully, I feel as though the action wasn’t quite as great as it could have been. At the start action filled events were mentioned but we didn’t get to see them play out, and I feel as though I would have enjoyed the book even more had the small action sequences at the start played out in full. Nevertheless, you knew there was a lot going on and that pulled you into the story, leaving you addicted.
Whilst I didn’t enjoy the main characters quite as much as I did in the prior book (I should probably stop comparing the two, sorry), I did have fun with them. As always, I would have been happier if the romance had taken longer to blossom; despite this, I came to enjoy the relationship between the characters. At first I feared I wouldn’t be able to enjoy their story, but as things progressed I became captivated by how things were going to play out.
Not to mention we got to see the characters from the prior books. It was nice to see some more of their chemistry, especially with them being side characters instead of the focal point. This meant we got to see the love between them without the drama of their relationship being the centre of the story. It was nice to see them again, to be given snippets of what I loved about their stories.
My biggest issue with the book is the same issue I had with the prior book: the ending felt as though it was a repeat of what I’ve already read. To paraphrase one of the characters in this story, it wouldn’t be a regency love story without a kidnapping. As always, it was enjoyable; however, I wish that something else had been used as a final action sequence. I just felt cheated is all: there are many different forms of action to be seen across regency romance stories, and I feel as though this series has used up its quota of kidnappings.
As a whole, I enjoyed this one. Whilst not my favourite in the series, it was a nice addition.
As a final note, I would like to thank Aurora Publicity for allowing me to read this in exchange for a review: I had a lot of fun with this one, and plan to read more of the author’s work.
Taming A Rake Into A Lord by Tammy Andresen is a quick, and exciting Victorian read. While, Book 4 in “Taming the Heart” series, but can be read as a stand alone. Christopher Masters, rake, retired spy, and newly Earl of Winthrop. Lady Elizabeth, when the new Earl arrives, she learns she must marry within a year or lose her inheritance, as well, as a new earl will replace, Chris. There is a young ward, a child, Elizabeth and her father has been taking care of, what will be her faith, if Elizabeth marries. Chris decides he must find Elizabeth. Then he learns, Bernard Sinclair, her despicable distant cousin, has been trying to persuade her to marry him. There is something about Bernard that makes Lizzie’s skin crawl. Bernard will stop at nothing to have Lizzie and her inheritance. Fast paced, quick read, approximately 165 pages, but very entertaining, with engaging and well-developed characters. The plot was intriguing with elements of mystery, drama, action, a bit of suspense, lots of romance and hot sexy passion. Oh, and a bit of humor weaved throughout the story. I truly enjoyed Chris and Lizzie’s story. A refreshing tale of Victorian Romance with twist and turns! Ms. Andresen is a talented author. One that draws the reader into her story and hold them in awe. I read this in one reading, couldn’t stop until I reached the last page. Well worth the time to read! Perfect for a lazy afternoon! I can’t wait to read more of Tammy Andresen and her delicious stories. Highly recommended! Fans of Victorian Romance, Historical Romance, great characters, the antics of young children, passion and the love of family and a HEA, will definitely enjoy, “Taming a Rake into a Lord”. Well done, Ms. Andresen!
Christopher Masters is a first class rake. Having retired as a spy, he thinks he may spend the next year or two gambling and drinking as a way to forget the horrors of his past. Quite suddenly, he is thrown into a new role entirely when he inherits the title and properties of the Earl of Rothenberg. He has no desire for such a role but even more distressing is the ward that accompanies the estate.A clause in the will states she must marr within a year of the old Earl’s death, if not then Chris doesn’t inherit the earldom. Lady Elizabeth Wright knows that her future is uncertain. Having cared for her father these past months, she is less than a wallflower. This is the fourth book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own it does feature Barrett & Alex from earlier books. Chris also made appearances in some of the earlier books too & I’m glad he got his HEA. Chris & Lizzie are immediately attracted to each other but he thinks he’s unworthy of her. It takes interference from his best friends to make him realise how he feels. A well paced long novella that I read in an afternoon.
Taming A Rake Into A Lord by Tammy Andresen is absolutely fantastic. Ms Andresen has once again delivered a well-written book. I totally love the characters in this book, they are adorable. Chris and Liz's story is filled with drama, action, humor and sizzling hot sexy bits. I loved reading Taming A Rake Into A Lord and look forward to reading more from this talented author in the future. Taming A Rake Into A Lord is book 4 of the Taming The Heart Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from a third party.
I loved reading Chris and Lizzie's story. In fact, I just couldn't wait to read it, which is why I am already adding a review. There were some humorous moments, especially when Chris has his friends come over. I love the whole group; each of them bringing a different dynamic to the table. Barrett, Alex, and Chris are like the three musketeers and I love that! Chris is suddenly thrust into his new position as an earl, one he has no idea how to even begin to deal with. He is a self-proclaimed rake and mostly acts like one. But when he meets Lizzie things change. She must marry and soon, and although Chris is trying to find a suitor, he just can't keep his hands to himself. A handsy man (rake in this case who likes women with loose skirts) is not one I usually like, but Chris is so sweet and caring that it makes the romantic side of the book even better, especially since he continually fights himself and deals with being unworthy of such a woman. This is a great addition to the rest of the series! By the way, if you find yourself lost as to who the friends are in the book, don't worry, there are books about them too.
I just love this series! Like many of us who retire, we just want to take it easy and have some fun. Christopher Masters is no different. Unfortunately or fortunately, like many of us, things do not go as planned. Masters is informed that he has inherited an estate and title as an Earl. Masters knows nothing of being an Earl let alone attempting to find a suitor for the young lady who comes with the property. Lady Elizabeth has been running the estate since the death of her father with the skill of a pro. When Masters arrives, Lizzie drops into his arms. The chemistry between the two is ignitable but Masters knows his job is to find her a suitor and get her married off within a year or another person will take over as Earl. Masters has to get over his past to look toward the future and Lizzie just needs to ensure she has a future with someone she can love. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This, in no way, sways my opinion.
Historical English romance with a young well born lady that must marry within the year with the help of the newly made Lord, Earl of Winthrop. There are lots of crazy last testament shenanigans which sound fake and eventually are found to be fake, but it brings two strangers together, new Lord Christopher Masters and the sweet Lady Elizabeth, to fall in love as they help Chris navigate the choppy rich titled Lord waters. Lady Elizabeth has an evil cousin, Bernard Sinclair that is just too obviously evil, but they are all lucky that he happens to be stupid as well so his death threats and kidnapping are thwarted quickly. There is a marriage and the usual HEA as in all of these types of stories. I can't give it more then 2 stars because it was completely predictable in every story plot point. But still a fun fluff read. 165 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
Taming A Rake Into A Lord by Tammy Andresen is the 4th book in the Taming The Duke’s Heart series. Tammy has an amazing way of writing that you get sucked in from the first page to the last and this story starts out with a bang! You can feel what her characters are going through her visual are so descriptive. This story has gambling, friendships, guardianship, evil, deceit, attraction, fear, loyalty, husband hunting, stipulation in a will, poor suiters, but is there love? You will just have to read to find out. I highly recommend you read this book. Go back in time with Christopher Masters The new Earl of Rothenberg and Lady Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rite.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Tammy Anderson is a wonderful storyteller besides a good story her characters are well-defined human sexy and funny besides being a good storyteller she is extremely good author I have read so many of her books and thoroughly enjoyed each one this one is no exception I'd love the series I'm going right into the next one I just love it when all the characters from other books or together working together I really do enjoy that this was an extremely good story well written and I think everyone will enjoy it by the book you won't be sorry
This was an entertaining read, when Chris Masters unexpectedly inherits an earldom, he also becomes guardian to a ward, Lady Elizabeth Wright. When they meet there is an instant attraction. However, Chris needs to arrange her marriage within 6 months to retain the earldom. His friends, Alex , Duke of Wellington and Barrett, Duke of Manchester and their families all arrive to help. There is some amusing interaction between the friends and a menace to contend with. May is also introduce in this book and her story appears in a later book.
When Retired spy, Christopher Masters learns that he has become the new Earl of Winthrope, he also finds out that he has inherited Lady Elizabeth as his Ward. Before he meets Elizabeth, several attempt are made to murder Christopher. The story is a bit melodramatic, but given the Regency setting it's not that bad.
Out of the military and not knowing what to do next. Suddenly a title and a ward. What a man to do. Finding a new purpose in life that is worthy of them both. Riveting read. Unable to put down
Even though I have read dozens of historical romances with this scenario, I rather enjoyed it. Chris with his self-esteem problems. Tammy Andresen writes a lovely HEA, as always, and I am gradually reading all her historical romances - it gives me great pleasure to do so! 4☆
Tammy Andersen has done it again. She has written another outstanding love story. I found this book to be just about perfect with just enough intrigue and suspense. I would recommend it to anyone.
Christopher Masters a spy and a rake, retired from his work felt adrift not really part of the "ton" he has enough time on his hands than he knows what to do with. Before he knows it his luck has changed, by some unexpected fate he becomes part of the nobility. The new Earl of Rothenberg! Of all the things in his life he never expected to become part of the nobility especially with a ward to take care of. In order to keep his title he has to find a husband for his ward, What he never expected were the feelings for his ward.
Lady Elizabeth has been worried since her father's passing what the new Earl would do about her and her young cousin. She finds herself in a swoon and in the lap of the new Earl -it was heaven- never having felt these feelings before but oh so right she knows her heart is at risk. Can she ever tame a Rake into a Lord?
Another great read, enchanting story the reader definitely gets to feel the unworthiness that Chris was feeling he couldn't possibly have the love of a woman as good as his Elizabeth. All he's ever wanted is a family and now his dream is in his grasp. Lady Elizabeth is the perfect addition to the gang and really the perfect match for Chris. Love that we get to see the rest of the cast ( Alex and Rose Pippa and Barrett) All in all this story has it all a kidnapping from an evil villain a rescue and of course the sweet romance. I highly recommend Tammy Andresen books.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest opinion.
Once again this author has written a very enjoyable story. It is a quick, light read. Even though the characters are introduced in the previous books this also works well as a stand alone. While not my usual pick for reading material it is nice to read something out of usual choices.
Chris and Lizzie have been thrown together by her father's dying wishes. Chris must see to it that Lizzie is safely married within six months in order to inherit a title and fortune. But alas, this rake for helplessly in love with her himself. Along with love (and a bit of lust) there is also intrigue, kidnapping and friendship.
A quick enjoyable read that had romance, action, a villain, and chemistry. The pacing was perfect for this length of book, which I read in an afternoon. I liked the chemistry between the main characters as well as the secondary characters. We have met the secondary characters in prior books and it was nice to have a peek into their lives after their own stories were told. This is a sweet historical romance but I also enjoyed the bits of humor offered mainly by Chris’s friends Barrett and Alex. Written in a way that you felt Chris’s feeling of unworthiness of having a woman as good as Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a great addition to group of friends and I thought she was a perfect match for Chris. A nice addition to the Taming of the Heart series. Note: I received ARC of the book and am voluntarily reviewing it.
This author's books have each and every one been a pleasure while pursuing my lifelong favorite hobby--TAMING A RAKE INTO A LORD is the fourth book of hers I have read--but this particular book did not have the depth I usually enjoy in her stories. The two main characters are likable, the friends delightful and already encountered in previous books, and the villain suitably creepy and threatening. The storyline is believable and I love Ms. Andresen's writing style, but I very much wanted to know these characters even better than this book allowed. Would I still recommend this book to other fans of Regency romance? Absolutely!!!
I received an advance copy of this eBook in exchange for my honest review of it.
I wanted to really love this book, because the synopsis of it sounds amazing. Chris, a rake and retired spy, inherits a title from a distant relation, and suddenly finds himself responsible for a ward (Elizabeth) who he must find a husband for quickly, or risk losing his title and inheritance to the next heir in line.
My problem with this book was that there was very little to anchor it into its regency setting. There were horses and carriages and castles and titles, but nobody behaved the way polite society of the era would have behaved...and nobody reacted to the main characters' behavior the way well-bred lords and ladies would have. I also really couldn't bring myself to like Chris in any setting; he was entirely too handsy and disrespectful toward Elizabeth. He really made me just want to reach into my Kindle and slap him soundly on her behalf.
I received a free copy from Aurora Publicity in exchange for an honest review.
Christopher Masters has just inherited a Lordship and a new ward, Elizabeth Wright. In order to retain his Lordship, Elizabeth must marry. What will happen to the Lord and the Lady? Will these two find love or will outside forces keep them apart? A wonderful you will thoroughly enjoy.
I was so delighted to finally read Chris's story… He intrigued me in the past Taming books, but it was easy to see that he had met his match in Lizzie. It did seem unusual that Chris and Lizzie were so taken with each other at first sight, but it was great for pacing! I do feel like I would have liked a little more build up, but instead we got a story complete with the requisite Taming engagement kidnapping!

I love these books! This one was the best in that Chris deserved to get his happy ever after. Instead of attraction the great way to meet the girl you want. These books are great you would be happy to read them!
I do not understand why this book is getting 5 star reviews. The most glaring error that the author made was that an earl can lose his title if he does not marry the heroine. Simple research on the internet would dispel this fallacy. Also the heroine would not have to marry to keep the earl from losing his title. The heroine can lose her inheritance if she does not comply the will's conditions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heredit... has the most basic information on the Letters patent which usually stated that it can only be through heirs-male of the body.
Convoluted and Insta-Love. Unfinished at 50%, I kept trying to get into it but couldn't wrap my head around it. I didn't understand the stipulation that she had to marry for him to inherit. There was next to no chemistry, what was there could only be called lust.
