Lexi grew up in South Alabama in a rural community with one flashing light and a small country store that sold everything from gas to pickled eggs. Her father, a circuit judge, collected clocks — chiming clocks that binged and banged all night long in rhythm with the trains that chugged and wailed down the railroad track not a hundred yards from Lexi’s girlhood home. Needless to say, Lexi is a very sound sleeper. And to this day, the lonely sound of a train whistle does something to her.

She grew up surrounded by cotton fields and wide open spaces. She was a major tomboy. Dressed in a boy cousin’s hand-me-downs, she ran barefoot, climbed trees, played in ditches, and picked sun-warmed dew berries off their prickly vines. Sometimes, her parents drove her into town to play with her city cousins. They played dress-up, made forts, charged up and down dirt mounds in noisy games of King of the Hill and chased the mosquito truck on their bikes.

Lexi’s mother was a high school English teacher who instilled in her daughter a love of reading and books. The muse first struck Lexi in the third grade, when she began to write poetry. Bad poetry.

She continued to flay the English language throughout high school and college.
And then she went to law school and the muse left her.

The muse HATED law school.

Lexi wasn’t too crazy about it either, especially the rule against perpetuities, but with a public relations major and English minor, it seemed the sensible thing to do.

After passing the Alabama state bar exam on her first attempt, Lexi got a job as an appellate attorney with a big state agency where she’s happily worked ever since. Her day job involves writing briefs and reading criminal transcripts – transcripts where people do rude things to one another.

In Lexi’s experience, the human capacity for rudeness is unlimited. No doubt, a daily diet of man’s inhumanity to man . . . and woman . . . and children . . . and dogs and cats is somewhat responsible for Lexi’s desire to escape reality in the pages of a good book. Preferably a romance, her favorite genre.

Demon Hunting in DixieSome fifteen years ago, the muse abruptly returned from Fiji or Wawbeek or wherever the heck she went, and Lexi started writing again. Novels, not poetry. She joined a writer’s group and wrote and wrote and wrote.

DEMON HUNTING IN DIXIE, a paranormal romance, is her debut novel. It is peopled with funny characters and sexy demon hunters and lots of supernatural woo woo. And the other kind of ‘woo woo’ as well.

The story has a happy ending.

Since being traumatized by OLD YELLER at the age of nine, Lexi is all about the happily ever after.

descriptionCute cover on this one. Good representation of the story. Godd use of graphics. Great composition and title work as well.description

descriptionThis is one of those times where one character completely ruins a book. Well, obviously not COMPLETELY ruins it as I still am giving it 3.5 Stars. That said, had the heroine not been such an unmitigated b!tch this one would probably have gotten 4.5, even 5 Stars. Alas, a b!tch she was, and I loathed her.

SO many times I wanted Duncan to tell her to grow the f@ck up and for him to move on. Poor guy had been looking for (and pining for) her for TWO HUNDRED YEARS. That is right folks; this chick has been holding onto a grudge for two centuries over something Duncan said, that yes was hurtful but not THAT hurtful. Plus he came back a few days after he said it to apologize and ask for forgiveness and she had done a runner. Now he has finally found her and is trying to win her back. Did I mention I hated her? She was a twat of epic proportions. Throwing the fact she slept with OM in his face which broke his heart. On a side note...I have NO clue if he sleeps with others during those two centuries. Sometimes the things he said led me to think he hadn't, but then when he was telling Evan about the THRALL and how the Dalvahni (what Duncan is) have sex to exchange power “The Great Directive does not prescribe a strict schedule, only that a Dalvahni warrior avail himself of a Thrall at regular intervals" leads me to believe that he must have. So basically it was clear as mud.

description

So now that we got my dislikes out of the way let me explain what I DID like. Basically everything apart from the heroine. I LOVED Duncan. I adored the side characters. The writing was fantastic. It was well paced. The plot (and subplots) were interesting and kept me turning the pages. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, and I didn't find myself lost or anything. I am sure if you had read them then you would probably be more familiar with some of the side characters and the "monsters, " but I think this one holds up fine as a standalone. I also found it quite humorous at times. So yea, all in all, this one was a fun read, and I will certainly be going back to read the previous books when time allows. A thumb and pinkie finger up from yours truly.description

What a fast, fun, magic filled romance with plenty of wild creatures that kept this story rolling. My first book by this author and I enjoyed it immensely!

I absolutely loved Duncan. He was determined to win Cassie back after making a statement that caused a separation between them that has lasted almost two centuries. But now that he’s found her he’ll do whatever it takes to make her his.

Cassie’s magic is a little wonky right now but that’s the least of her worries. She’s got crazy werewolves, hordes of demons, white trash kith, an animated singing statue and most of all, Duncan, to deal with. There is all kinds of crazy going on in Hannah and I’m wishing I had been introduced to this madcap group earlier.

If you like fun times and humor – not the immature kind – with your paranormal romance, this is exactly the book you need to pick up.

My honest review is for a special copy from NetGalley that I voluntarily read.

Dual POV
Safety Gang – no mention if the hero was with anyone during separation, heroine admits to being with others during that time
Possible trigger – one of the characters is kidnapped and is in danger of rape although nothing actually happens

Since I binged this series over the past week or so, my review is going to be briefly (or as brief as I ever get) touch on the specific book and then there will be an overall series section. You can choose to read both bits, or not. As you like.

description

Book Specific Review: Cassie and Duncan - more in the vein of the last book, there are intriguing developments with the presumed dead demon hunter Gryffin and seeing more of Evan made me happy. I actually do want him to get his HEA. The overarching storyline drives this book, and I did enjoy it. The romance bogs down a bit because the central obstacle, Duncan leaving Cassie and their separation for a couple of hundred years, felt repetitive by the end. Not horrible, but I'm really curious as to what will happen next, so I'll give props to Ms. George - she's got me hooked.

Series Review: I’d read the first two books a long time ago but re-read them which lead me down this rabbit hole. I was drawn to this urban fantasy/paranormal romance series because it’s got your typical protective, practically impervious heroes called Dalvahni who are demon hunters, mixed with a small town romance vibe (in this case the town of Hannah, Alabama) that I enjoy. The way the ‘verse kept expanding pulled me in despite the flaws. There was a little hook at the end of each - not full cliffhangers because the main romance was resolved during each book, but enough of a hook to make the reader want to see what happens next. The first two books are way more slapstick in its humor, country fried exaggerations that were the reasons I didn’t keep going with it. However, the tonal shift between book 2 and book 3 was distinct. The closest analogy I can draw is Buffy the Vampire Slayer the movie vs. Buffy the series.

My big quibbles are the lack of diversity and the little bit there is tends towards stereotypical, which was unsatisfying. The first couple of books also spends ALOT of time being cringey in the judginess towards sexuality and/or crossing some serious boundaries, but it definitely gets better as the series goes along.

The shift in the way the romances are handled is night and day - think more insta-love/quick sex vs slow burns. There’s enough backstory explained in each book that you could pretty much jump into the series at any point and not miss a whole lot.

Bottom Line: I like the series more as it goes along, even with its flaws, and considering the way the last book ends (Demon Hunting with an Ex), I'm hooked and I need to know more.

I have loved this series ever since Demon Hunting in Dixie and sadly no book since has been quite as good, I mean they have all been entertaining and funny 4 Star reading but missed that "memorable" level of good book rating .

It looks like Lexi George has found that elusive allure that made me love that first book so much in this new book Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex since I laughed hard, loved the story, loved the characters and REALLY loved Jeb :)

While most of these books have a lot going on this one seemed to have about 6-7 subplots and I really enjoyed it, many authors can't pull that off without frustrating the reader but it worked in this book.

Cassandra and her ex Duncan (hence the title) are a great match for most of the book, couple of times right before the end it seemed they were getting a bit stupid about their relationship but nothing that really messed up the story.

We have a sub-plots of albino Sasquatch, sorta/kinda demon Evan and his crush on a female demon hunter, and a few more I won't get into but for me Jeb steal every scene he pops up in and just when you think he is gone, he shows up to add extra humor to every scene.

Bottom Line: I LOVED this book, even though I really loved the last one , this one seemed to be getting back to the original writing style and humor I loved (still wish we could get the talking dog back) but Jeb kinda makes up for it. 4.5 Stars rounded to 5 and a good time to be had by all :)

Yet another romance book trying to pretend it has a fantasy/supernatural plot line. Honestly, this is book was just all over the place. We have two different immortal warrior races, witches, demonoids, werewolves, zombies?, ogres, ghouls?, bigfoot, a magical power enhancer/diminisher, a god-like being and a mysterious magical orb. Like seriously?

My long list of problems with this book:
1. The title - For a book that says it is about Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex, there was very little demon hunting and just a lot of pining back and forth between the two exes. Like come on, I want to see some serious demon hunting!
2. The plot - Namely, what the hell is it? At 50% it seemed like the whole point of the story was Duncan and Cassie getting back together, with a random quest of the orb just getting thrown in so that we could all pretend this wasn't just a romance with supernatural creatures thrown in. Honestly, you could have made every single character in this book a human and it would have hardly changed anything.
3. Character background - Outside of a few brief mentions, we never learn anything of depth about these characters and their past. At one point Cassie mentions her horrible, wicked mother and how she was mistreated in her younger years, but I don't think this was ever mentioned again. Toby and Cassie are supposedly besties who go way back, yet I never learn how they met, how they became friends etc. Also, how the hell do almost all of the characters know each other? That is never explained. I feel like I am the new kid entering a small town highschool where all these people have apparently grown up together and know basically everything about each other and I am just expected to jump into the fray and be like, "Oh, so and so? Yeah, I know exactly who they are and where to find their secret hang out."
I get that a lot of these characters have a past together, can you please give me a little more explanation?
4. No conflict resolution - So remember that random plot/subplot about the mysterious magical orb I mentioned? Well at the end of the book it's still missing, people are still after it and it seems our main characters are not the least bit concerned. You know why? Well because they've confessed their love to each other, agreed to get married and would rather go home and profess their love to each other instead. Again, wtf? Why introduce the orb if you're going to do nothing with that plot point? If all that matters is the Duncan and Cassie getting together then just make this a straight up romance and stop throwing random shit into the mix for no good reason.

The only thing this book somewhat delivered on is a bit of sexiness toward the end, but I had to read to 75% before I got any of that.

Bottom line:
Would I ever read it again? No.
Would I recommend it to my friend? No, not unless you're getting it for free and feel like skimming almost all the way to end before anything really happens.

At the end of the day, you’ll be judged by how well you loved, not the other way around.

Duncan and Cassandra fell in but long held prejudice ended their romance before it really began. Although Duncan quickly realized his mistake and came back for her, Cassie had suffered too much heartache and disappeared. Cassie thought she’d never hurt as much as the day Duncan walked out on her but the death of her young nephew and nieces nearly destroyed her. Alone and ashamed of her failings, Cassie doesn’t stick around long and leaves Hannah far behind.

For almost two centuries, Duncan searched for his Cassandra and curses the day he walked away from her. But a lot of times has gone by and although Duncan’s love has not waned, Cassandra thinks things are better left alone.

Now that Cassie is back, Duncan settles in for the long haul and is ready to give his all to convince Cassie that they are meant to be. But in the town of Hannah, there isn’t a day that goes by that doesn’t burst with magic, kiths and the eye candy that is the Dalvahni. When a mysterious orb sickens a shifter pack and a Dalvahni warrior thought long dead, is seen roaming the streets, things get a tad complicated for Duncan. Dealing with a stubborn and wary Cassie, is the least of his worries.

What I liked:
The Dalvahni are an interesting group. If you don’t like wonky accents and old world speech, their dialogue might get tiresome to read. I found this didn’t really bother me. I liked that they were so different and their speech made them stand out. It was funny at times how literal they were but mostly, they have a way of talking that worked for their characters.

I loved Duncan. He was an awesome H. Wish I could say the same for Cassie. Her constant pushing away from Duncan got lame fast. I never really connected with her character. It didn’t help that most of the story had these two MCs apart. There was very little page time between just them (that isn’t counting the few sexy times they had) I needed to see them interact more.

I loved Grim and Sassy’s story and they are still my favorite couple of this series (that I’ve read so far) and Evan and Taryn definitely have potential. I still like this series and will see where it goes from here :)

Favorite Line:
No surprise that it’s Duncan :)
"That is who I am. I do not know how to be anything else, save the warrior who loves his Cassandra."

Memorable Moment:
Sorry but Evan and Taryn kind of stole the show for a minute or two. I cannot wait to find out what’s happening behind his closed front door right now! That ending hooked me for the next in the series.

After having her heart broken by her demon hunter centuries ago, the last thing Cassie is going to do is give Duncan another chance. Her plan is to get on with her life and ignore him. Kind of hard to do when he moves in across the river from her. Duncan is the first to admit he screwed up. She has demon in her and that goes against everything he stands for. Okay, so he panicked and left her but he never stopped loving her and he wants her back. Cassie's not about ready to let her heart get broken again even if her magic is acting wonky and she gets attacked by a werewolf. Duncan thinks otherwise. Let's the fun antics begin!

I having one of those moments where I can't decide if I liked the book or not. Well, not exactly the story, more like the main characters. Take Cassie for example. Yes, Duncan screwed up years ago. Many, MANY years ago. And she's still holding a grudge many years later. There comes a time where you just got to grow up and let it go. As for Duncan, what is hard to not like about him. Sexy, strong, he wants to make amends, fix what he screwed up. It's that he's still harboring a torch for her after so long that had me liking and hating him. Such devotion and yet I want to shake him and say, come on dude, her loss, move on.

There wasn't a whole lot of hunting going on but still, the story itself was great. The secondary characters, the whole crazy kaboodles, were a blast (Love you Sugar!) and totally redeemed everything that I found irksome. How can you not laugh over a statute with a peanut and what is the big deal about the orb? I'm new to the series but these characters have piqued my interest enough to start the series from the beginning. There was quite a bit of action mixed in with all the funny. Really, if you ignore what was a downer for me, the book was worth the read and had no problem holding my attention.

3 plus stars = I liked it. I enjoy the light humorous touch of this series, so I was happy to return to demon ridden Dixie. It's been a long time since the previous book in the series, so it took a bit to come back up to speed on the supporting players in this second chance romance between archaic speaking demon hunter Duncan and the demonoid witch Cassandra. Duncan spurned Cassandra and spent the next hundred years trying to find her to rectify his mistake and he is working very hard to win back. Cassandra has reason to be gun shy after Duncan broke her heart, but the repeated angst-y resistance to Duncan's pursuit is not my favorite way to handle this trope.

So the real fun of this book for me wasn't in the main romance, it was in the supporting cast, cameos of past players, especially troll shifting Evan. He was great and I was happy with his secret longing for the demon-huntress. And I also really am looking forward to more of the power enhancing Verbena. Hope we get more of her soon.

3.5 Stars – Rounded

With two main characters suffering from their past connections, a demonic presence that is threatening all they hold dear, and hormones and pheromones running amok, there was no way not to just laugh out loud through much of this book. Cassie is a witch, centuries old, with a problem: half demon and losing her control and oomph from her magic, she’s trying to live an uncomplicated life in the little southern town. But, Duncan Dalvani, a demon hunter and the love of her life until he disappeared without a glance back leaving her heartbroken, is in town. No, scratch that, he’s building a house on his own land, directly across from her own home. Worse still, he seems to be everywhere, his desire for Cassie and his never-ending quest to reclaim her heart makes him an eager puppy, always underfoot.

When you add in another being whose rage turns him into an ogre, mix his attraction for a female demon hunter, and her confusion (and more than hilarious attempts to push him away) there are plenty of romantic missteps tossed into the mix. And while the ‘hunting’ is actually pretty slow, the interactions (the hunters are often interacting with information from a ‘wired in’ dictionary that frequently misses nuance) are often hilarious as defined meanings meet actual use of words, confusing and confounding them frequently. For me, being new to this series, it was the interactions and cleverness in the twisted communication sang out solidly. Action-wise, there are some questions affecting the local werewolf clans, a rogue hunter turned demon whisperer, and a kidnapping that could lead to Cassie’s demise, if not for Duncan’s actions, even as he is determined to get her to take another chance on him.

As an introduction to the story, the slower pace and character focus helped me in putting characters in place, and understanding the overall plot. Duncan was adorable, and Cassie most certainly held onto her hurt feelings with an iron grip, often showing her own conflicts: softer on the inside with questions and concerns that spew out with a sharp tongue and attitude. A story that certainly had me interested in the rest of the series, starting from the beginning.

I have the first book in this series on my TBR list and after reading this one, I have to say that I am really looking forward to going back to the beginning of Cassie's adventures after reading this book. This is the fifth in the series, but I actually didn't feel too lost in picking up this series without reading the ones prior. I found the characters funny and unique. The writing had an enjoyable pace with just the right amount of humor and sarcasm. The only thing I didn't like is that I felt like there was just too much going on with too many different flavors of characters. I got that the focus of the book was on Cassie and Duncan trying to sort through their relationship. Then the author throws in not only Cassie's magic acting a little off, sick supernaturals, crazy werewolves, demonic attacks, and an animated statue. This could be a result of coming into the series in the fifth book. If you're looking for a funny paranormal series with a hint of romance, i highly recommend this series.

(ARC provided by author through NetGalley for honest review.)

This is such a fun series and this book did not disappoint. I just love the way the Dalvhani talk and think. That's half the humor for me right there. And it really tests my vocabulary sometimes but in a fun way. How Lexi George comes up with some of this stuff I'll never know. Just the fact that they have a god named Kehvahn cracks me up.

This was a solid story and the pacing moved right along. I was engaged throughout the book. And the secondary characters really come to shine in this one. From Verbena to Evan to Sugar, I was entertained throughout. And Evan really stole every scene he was in. "I'm the frigging Zombie Master, so booyah."

The story of Duncan and Cassie was the focus of the plot, and after a long separation Duncan will not stop until he wins her back. And for those who don't like 2nd chance romances, this one really did not dwell on that aspect. There were too may shenanigans going on. But the romance was solid. I am definitely looking forward to the next book. In fact, I may just do a re-read of this series before the next one comes out. If you like to be entertained and have a hankering for some sexy demon hunters and really original southern characters that will make you laugh, this series is for you.

I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was a little confused throughout. It is the fifth book in a series and I haven't read the other books. As a result, I would not consider this book an easy stand-alone read. I was able to figure out who was who and eventually what the characters referred to, but it took a while.

Cassandra is a sorceress who lives a simple life in Alabama trying to forget the non-human demon hunter who abandoned her nearly two hundred years before. Duncan wants her back and has to battle werewolves and demons to break through her defensed. He gets a little help from a shape-shifting ogre, an albino sasquatch named Sugar, and an animated hero statue of a peanut 'feller to mention a few.

I was concerned at first by Duncan's very formal speech pattern followed by Alabaman red neck. It wasn't until I realized that Duncan is an inter-dimensional being who uses a "Provider" in his head which acts as an interpreter that I began to enjoy the differences. I also don't speak Alabaman red neck very well, so some of the phrases were lost on me as well as Duncan.

Overall, a fun read which I may revisit in the future. I LOVE the title. I'll check into the rest of the series and see where that leads me.

For some reason my original review disappeared from Net Galley. I have been reading these books from the very beginning. Demon hunter Duncan Dalvhani has been a reoccurring character whose time has come for his HEA. Cassandra, aka The Witch of Devil River, was rejected by Duncan many years ago and she isn't willing to forgive and forget. Duncan, is besotted with her and is willing to do just about anything to get her back. When freaky things start happening in their river neighborhood, Duncan and Cassie have to join forces to against crazy opponents.
I felt that the secondary plot lines are just as interesting as the main action. Evan is always a scene stealer and he was in this novel too.
I like George's twists in her stories, and her ability to give us a real feel for truly alien characters. The Dalvhani take everything literally, and I love their misinterpretation of the English language.
This latest book has the feel of the original book, Demon Hunting in Dixie, it's humorous and cleverly written.

This story is Ok; I received this ARC from the publisher, it's the first book that I've read from this series and I think that effected my overall enjoyment. You can ready my full review on my WordPress blog, Flora's Musings...

So what’s this book about?
Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex is a paranormal romance with more than one storyline running throughout but with a HEA (Happily Ever After) conclusion for our romantic couple - Lexi George is known to hate sad endings - and is book five in her popular Demon Hunting series. It is set in our modern world in the US town of Hannah, Alabama and features inter-dimensional demon hunters, shape-shifters, magic wielders and humans.

In my opinion, Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex should not be read as a standalone story; yes, the romance between our two main characters has a HEA ending, however, this story also features many characters from previous books, references to past adventures and a couple of ongoing plotlines. Although, Ms George tries to ensure her new readers aren't lost by weaving pertinent information into this story, as with most long standing series, I sometimes felt a bit confused, I missed the nuances of experiencing those past adventures, of knowing the characters and their relationships to each other because I was jumping in cold.

So, what did I like about it?
Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex is the first book that I’ve read by Ms George and I liked the fact that she populated her world with a host of original supernatural beings. There are two castes of inter-dimensional demon hunters who are tasked with stopping rogue demons called ‘djegrali’; the male brotherhood is the Dalvhani warriors and the female sisterhood is the Kirvhani warriors. The usually purple eyed demonoid species such as witches, shape shifters (but not werewolves) are collectively known as the ‘Kith’ and common or garden humans are referred as ‘norms’. Sylphs, satyrs, piskies, centaurs, imps, fairies and a few gods also make an appearance along the way too.

I must be honest and say that although I understood where Duncan was coming from and grew to like Cassie eventually - she does have a kind heart and isn’t one of those wait to be rescued damsels – I got tired with her constant pushing away from Duncan which meant that I never really connected with her character like I wanted to. I don’t think it helped the ‘romance’ aspect of this book that most of the story had Duncan and Cassie apart. However, it was shifter Evan Beck and Kirvhani warrior Taryn that stole my heart for me; such wonderful characters. I absolutely loved Evan’s quick wit, banter and self-deprecating hang-ups, I connected to him almost immediately and I loved his secret longing for the demon-huntress; I looked forward to the scenes that he was in.

...So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Ok, so here’s where I have to be honest.

I was a little confused throughout this story; I do wonder if there was just too much going on. The main storyline is focused on Cassie and Duncan trying to sort through their relationship – it is a paranormal romance after all – but then Ms George throws in Cassie's magic acting a little off, the discovery of a new supernatural, crazy werewolves, characters falling ill, demonic attacks, searching for a rogue demon, new blossoming romances and an animated statue. *phew* That is a lot of plot lines for one book! Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex is the fifth novel in the series and I haven't read any of the others and although I was able to figure out who was who and eventually what the characters referred to, I’ve got to be honest, it did take a while.

And finally, there is a real mix of prose in this story, not only in the context of what the characters say and how they say it but also in the writing style used to describe scenes; Ms George flipped from modern to old-fashioned terminology frequently. It wasn't until I found out that Duncan is an inter-dimensional being who uses an interpreter in his head called a "Provider" that I understood why he used such formal speech patterns. Our heroine, Cassie was more of a contradiction as her dialogue, both internally and externally, seemed to switch from antiquated to modern. Then there was the heavy local Alabama dialect and colloquialisms; I am quite well read and intelligent enough, however, some of the descriptions, similes, conversations and phrases used throughout this story were completely lost on me, especially when reading the Skinners Alabaman red neck dialogue.

...So, basically what I’m saying is...
I thought that this story was Ok verging on good; I received it as an ARC from the publisher however, as it's the first story that I've read from this series, I do think that my enjoyment of this book was effected by my lack of prior knowledge.

This story covers a host of subjects; the death of children, death by magic, how the decisions we make may have ripple effects on us and those around us and the bond between family/friends both positive and negative. The book does have scenes of detailed gore, blood, fighting and sex scenes but I feel that it’s the main storyline of second chance love and the lengths we go to for those we love comes that shines through for me. I am sure that fans of this series will really enjoy this book.

Duncan watched the cabin for movement. Soon she would appear the Witch of Devil's River= Cassandra/Cassie McKenna who was more sorceress than witch able to channel power inherent in earth and stone, in the elements and living things. Cassie was a demonoid - the immortal daughter of a fiend possessed human. Duncan was Dalvani- a warrior sworn to the pursuit of rogue demons or djegrali. Cassie’s and Duncan’s natures set them at odds. Cassie was angry at Duncan , she was prickly and didn’t forgive easily. Duncan had hurt Cassie very cruelly in the past. It would take time and patience to reclaim Cassie. Duncan was also immortal so he had the time. Then Duncan caught a glimpse of Cassie and then he felt the most painful heightening of the senses, a heady mixture of excitement, longing , regret, and desire. The Cassie he remembered bubbled with laughter but this Cassie rarely smiled. She had even become a bit of a recluse. Cassie noticed Duncan and said she had told him to stay off her property and asked if she needed to get her gun. Cassie asked Duncan how many times did she have to tell him to leave her alone. Then Duncan told Cassie he bought the land across the river from her, it was about one hundred and fifty acres. Sad Cassie tore at Duncan’s heart but Cassie in an outrage delighted and aroused him. Cassie worked hard and now had a flourishing business. Cassie was no longer the ignorant country mouse. Duncan had known. Cassie would not allow Duncan to fluster her. The Regulator clock in Cassie’s house hadn’t worked for years but the clock had just chimed - trouble was coming maybe even death. Then cassie felt the need to get out of her house. When Cassie stepped onto her back stoop a feeling of dread engulfed her. Something was off. The perimeter of Cassie’s property was set with a spell line to alert her to danger and an invisible barrier screened her from visitors. If anyone or anything crossed the magical lines bells rang in the house and garden to let Cassie know she had company. Cassie checked the wars around her place and the spell line were still intact. Then a werewolf charged out of the trees with a heart stopping growl. He had half shifted- a young male- he was hunched and misshapen and the skin peeking through was sickly grey. Foam flecked his slathering jaw and his eyes burned red with madness. Cassie wondered how he had gotten through her security system. Cassie couldn’t find her keys in her purse and the truck was locked and the wolf was almost on her when she hit it with her purse on the nose and dove into the truck bed. Then the werewolf was also in the truck bed with her. Cassie waited for the wolf to tear into her flesh but Duncan had killed it before it got to Cassie. There was two packs of werewolves in Hannah . This one was from Pack Randall. Then Cassie flashed back to the kids- Maggie and Jimbo tore apart and dead. Cassie had promised her brother to take care of his kids and now they were dead. Cassie had left but Duncan had never stopped looking for Cassie or the murderer of the kids.Cassie had wondered about her birth mom for years - she had disappeared without a trace. Cassie had wondered if her mother had died or simply walked away. Her mother - Cybil had been demon possessed and a human possessed by a demon usually dies within a year. But Cybil had been a conjurer and a healer. She used magic to bind the demon to her but then Cybil transformed into a hag with an insatiable hunger for human flesh and Cybil had killed her own grandchildren. How Cassie had loved Duncan and losing him and the kids within days almost killed Cassie. Cassie knew something was up in the werewolf world. There had been three sick in a month. Something smelled of black magic
I had mixed feelings about this story. It was fun to read most of the time and I liked the pace most of the time although it did drag for me at times. It was a little irritating to read at times with the Dalahni way of speaking. I couldn’t seem to connect with Cassie. There was also a little too much going on for me. I did like the little side of romance of Evan and Taryn. I believe I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the books before this one in the series as this story was a little confusing at times. But the book had a lot in it: there was witches, shapeshifters, norms, sylphs, satyrs, peskies, centaurs, imps, fairies, gods, and a lot more. So as I said I had mixed feelings. Somethings I liked and something's not so much But i do advise everyone to read the first books of the series if I had I think I might have enjoyed this more definitely understood it more

A fast, fun, comic read filled with supernatural characters and creatures. The life of Cassandra McKenna isn’t in a good phase. Duncan, her ex demon-hunter is back and determined to make her life very difficult. Not only he broke her heart over two centuries, he hunts Demonoid sorcerers like herself and also baths naked in her river every day. What’s a poor sorceress to do? Things take a sudden turn for the worse when a werewolf attacks Cassie. When Duncan comes to her rescue, they discover that other evil things are on the loose and more are about to come out. Can they stop evil from taking over? Can Cassandra forgive Duncan for his past mistakes?

A cosy fantasy novel filled with romance and many supernatural creatures. It’s not usually my type of reading but it was a good story to just enjoy the ride.

The plot is simple and easy to follow. There are some twists which keep the story interesting and the constant action peaks are an addition to the quick narrative. Lexi George did a great job with the chemistry between the main characters. Their unfinished business of more than two centuries old is a big part of the story and their interactions go hand in hand with the evil mojo. There is humour, funny moments but also heated passion and moments of true friendship. It’s not your typical teenage romance. These characters are mature and as adults, their interactions take a different turn.

The style of writing was acceptable even though there were moments where I struggled to get the meaning of certain phrases and was forced to re-read them several times. Even so, there is a certain charm to it.

The characters are very likeable and it’s easy to enjoy their interactions and individual adventures. The main female character, Cassandra is great: she’s strong, intelligent and doesn’t take hasted decisions, she thinks things through. She can also hold a grudge though. She’s feisty protective of the people she loves and will do anything to protect them. Duncan, the main male character, is, of course, a very handsome devil with two very different faces: the playful and tensing but also the cold warrior with an iron determination. He will anything to mend his relationship with Cassie after he broke her heart and left her to deal with a monster herself. The secondary characters add colour and humour to the story. Jeb is great, he definitely brings out fun times even when the reader doesn’t see him coming. The albino Sasquatch named Sugar is just something else.

An enjoyable cosy, mature, fantasy/romance book a bit different from most but still recommendable.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher Lyrical Press and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book.

This is the 5th installment of the Demon Hunting series. This is not really a stand alone book so if you haven't read the previous books read at your own risk. Cassie and Duncan had a past. This went horribly wrong and Duncan said something really hurtful and crushed Cassie. Her brother's three children were in her care and died and she blamed herself. With all that she fled. Duncan came back 2 weeks later to find her gone and had been searching for her ever since. Even though they've both been back to Hannah they were never there at the same time til now. I liked seeing all the familiar characters from the previous books in this series and would love to have seen more of them. In the first few books there was so much comedy in them and there is some in this one but not like the first books and i missed that. I like the slang as well but at times in this book there was to much and it made it hard to understand what was trying to be said. It's just not as good as the first books in the series but still a solid read. I love the quirkiness and the whole world and can't wait to see how the loose ends with some of the characters will play out in the next book.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was a little confused throughout. It is the fifth book in a series and I haven't read the other books. As a result, I would not consider this book an easy stand-alone read. I had to do a little research on who was who, I was able to figure out who was who and eventually what the characters referred to, but it took a little while.

This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. Does have a HEA and no cliff-hangers. I highly recommend if you like your paranormal romances light-hearted, funny and with a great cast of characters. Overall a win in my book, I love romantic comedies and especially in PNR, its my fav.

Again I wished I realized this was part of a series, because the world created is brilliant, I was that excited that I brought the first book so I could go back to the start and understand it all more.

I loved the characters in this adventure, this book is most definitely interesting and I loved the town Hannah, I really do look forward in reading this authors work again.

Okay, full disclaimer – I didn’t realize this was a later installment of an already in progress series. I dove right in, quickly realizing that I was missing some initial books, but plowed through anyway. While this might not be the optimal introduction, it was still a nice intro.

Cassandra has an ex-boyfriend who has hunted her down, hundreds of years later, and he won’t take no for an answer. They’re both magical (her a witch and he a magical demon hunter) and they’ve already had the big “you’re something I should be hunting” fight, so things should be smooth sailing, right? Wrong. Cassie is still very much holding a grudge, Duncan (the ex) is still trying to win her back, and the both of them are trying to navigate in a magical world.

There’s also something magically big going on. An orb is changing hands, there might be some big betrayal in the Dalyhani, and there’s also big and lovable creatures out there. All of this combined to make for a really great, magic-packed book. Oh, and there’s a solid love story underneath it all, too.

Welcome back to Hannah Alabama where the paranormal is normal and the absurd is an everyday occurrence. In this installment we get Cassandra and Duncan’s story. Cassandra is a witch who knows how to hold a grudge. Duncan is the Dalvhani warrior who broke her heart. It has been almost 200 years and Duncan is determined to get her to forgive him. But he will have to do it while they fend off deranged werewolves, fire-breathing demons and trying to figure out why everyone wants the orb.
This is a fun addition to the series and the author gives us clues as to who may be hooking up in the future. Watching Cassie deal with fear of being hurt again while dealing with the nuttiness that is her life is a total hoot. I loved watching Verbena grow and look forward to learning more about her in the future. This book can be read standalone but is much more fun if you’ve read the earlier books in the series.

Funny and poignant

The Dalvahni always get their man, er, make that woman, even if they have to pursue them through centuries. Duncan made a mistake and left Cassandra because she was a demonoid. Two weeks later, he was back, but he couldn't find her. She had fled a personal tragedy, as well as Duncan's leaving. Now, over a century later, she's back and so is Duncan. Determined to pursue her and win her love again, he builds a house on the opposite river bank, much to her displeasure. But when she needs help, Duncan is right there. As they maneuver their way through potential tragedy after potential tragedy, gradually, Cassie changes her opinion until she finally accepts she and Duncan belong together.

Witty, funny, and fairly well-written, this story was a great one to read on a rainy afternoon with a blanket and a cup of tea, only don't spit out the tea when you start laughing! Warning: explicit sex.

ARC provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This series has been great from the start and continues to delight. I'd been waiting to read Cassandra and Duncan's story since they began appearing in previous books. Their story and this book did not disappoint.
Readers are quickly drawn into demon battles and a host of interesting new characters including sasquatch and piskies. I think Jeb may be a favorite new character! Read the book and you'll understand why. :)
Ms. George has a great touch with both the humor and the emotion in her Demon Hunting series. You become invested in all the characters that she introduces. I enjoyed Cassandra and Duncan's story and am already impatient for the next book because I cannot wait to find out what happens with the rest of the Dahlvani and Kirvhani family.

Great story.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I might have enjoyed the book more if I read them in sequence since this isn't the first in this series. There are a lot of different people in the book, kith, norms, shifters, Dalvahni, and a couple of gods to keep things interesting. That's a lot of people to keep track of. Then there are the different speech patterns and such. While it makes it interesting it sometimes slows down the flow of the story. I definitely had a few favorites, Verbena, Sugar, and Jeb, the animated statue of the town's hero. Boy, that Jeb is wicked with his peanut.

Overall, the story was engaging, the characters quirky and colorful, with plenty of action and humor. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good paranormal romance or adventure.

As a huge fan of Demon Hunting in Dixie, I was excited to see a new installment in Lexi George's hilarious series. Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex was like going back home for a visit with your crazy relatives: they put the "fun" in dysfunctional and you wouldn't have it any other way. There was enough exposition to remind you of things you may have forgotten (and to bring new readers into the fold) but not so much that it weighed the story down. While the main characters were entertaining, I also enjoyed all the peripheral relationships that were introduced and built throughout the story. Overall, Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex is a crazy quilt of a story I would happily wrap myself in any time.

Usually with the first book in a series, it's too hard to follow along without feeling lost in a brand new world. Not with this book! Even though this is the fifth book in the series, and my first time picking up a book within it, I was able to enjoy it just as much as I would a stand-alone.

Lexis George did an excellent job at creating a story that was not only well written , but also really fun to read. The characters were well developed with very interesting personalities.

For readers who haven't picked up any of the other books in this series, I say give it a try!

Do you let your conscience speak to you? Well , Cassandra is letting her’s speak to her but isn’t following or listening too well. Her and Duncan have a past but things happened to cause a separation of the two. Duncan has been looking for Cassandra for almost two centuries to find out what is wrong and declare his love. Cassandra is involved in several things at the moment and wants nothing to do with Duncan who now lives in the neighborhood. Duncan is a Dalvahni warrior who is in love. Can love conquer all and help right some past issues? Read this interesting but excellent story with lots of action, romance and bits of humor and must not forget Jeb!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I’ve been borrowing these book from my library’s Overdrive, and while they have been a fun way to pass a few hours, I have found that they are becoming quite predictable. However, I am a sucker for this series despite it’s flaws. The world George creates sucks you in, and the characters do have their moments where you can’t help but laugh at what’s happening.

If you enjoy paranormal romances and sassy characters then this is a good series to pick up.

This book is absolutely ridiculous.

And I loved every bit of it. I've never experienced a supernatural romcom with a heavy dose of southern charm before, but I'm in love with the insane characters and the feel good ending. I would definitely recommend reading the other books in the series so you have a better understanding of where the characters are coming from, but it's easy enough to read without doing so.

Rated 3.5 stars out of 5! I would have been able to give this a better review I think, had I have read the other books in the series. I just felt like I was missing some pretty key elements. Other than that, the story was a thrill a minute. Loved both Cassandra and Duncan. Looking forward to starting author Lexi George's DEMON HUNTING series from the start.
