the Book was smaller then i expected. A nice story and colourful eye catching pictures.

It was an exciting morning at Apple Tree Farm as Mrs Boot was taking Poppy and Sam to the train station as they were going on a school picnic with their teacher Miss Smith.
When the steam train arrived, 'All aboard' shouted the train conductor and the train puffed off down the track. Suddenly the train stopped and the driver climbed down and told them that the engine had broken down. Miss Smith asked the driver to get help otherwise the school trip would be spoiled.
The children decided to go into an adjacent field where a cow was grazing and as they ate their picnic they spotted Farmer Dray coming over the hill with his horse Dolly. 'We need a new engine not a horse,' shouted the children!
But Farmer Dray knew better and he harnessed Dolly to the back of the train. Dolly was strong and she pulled and pulled and before too long she had pulled the engine and carriage back to the station.
'Well done, Dolly', the children shouted as Miss Smith said she was sorry that their trip was ruined.
'Not ruined,' shouted Sam, 'It was an adventure' and all the children agreed.
This is another Farmyard Tale delightfully written and nicely illustrated by Stephen Cartwright.

Unlike the other books in the Farmyard Series, this book has a plot of sorts. Kids pile onto a train which breaks down and Dolly the horse pulls the train back to the station to reunite the kids with their parents. Not an interesting plot - but a plot nonetheless.
