Burgan starts his book with an overview of Magellan's voyage. The rest of the book follows Magellan's voyage in chronological order including a table of contents, glossary, did you know page, important dates in Magellan's life page, important people page, want ot know more page and an index. Throughtout the book there are word typed in bold typeface which are listed in teh glossary. There is a lot of white space with a medium sized font. Every page has a picture or map to go with the written information on that page. The author doesn't just list facts, he makes more of a story about Magellan that young children would be able to easily follow.

This mini-biography on Ferdinand Magellan is somewhat lengthier than a picture book but not quit a chapter book. Whatever its format is doesn't matter, its fabulous! My daughter and I were fascinated at this look into the first explorer to circumnavigate the globe (even though he was dead for part of the voyage). A wonderful addition to any elementary/middle school classroom or library for students covering World History or famous Explorers.
