It caught my eye and my family's interest. My husband wasn't into wrecking but he collected fruit stickers to put in the book. The book has been scribbled, crayoned, painted and glued extensively. It has been ripped, chewed and spit on (don't worry, it isn't going to end up at Goodwill), It has a piece of gum stuck between pages, receipts stapled in, a paper airplane that wouldn't fly stapled in, it reeks of perfume and it has fruit stickers in it. I haven't yet taken it in the shower or swung it around the room by a string. This book may have more adventures coming.
Personally, I enjoyed this Wreck This Journal more than I liked my previous one. I've made my way through a couple different versions of the original version, but this I enjoyed more.
Some of the ways to wreck the journal or the same, or very similar, to the original edition, but nonetheless, I still wrecked this journal and I had a good time doing so.
Another reason I like this one better is that it is in color. The original was just so boring to me color wise. I loved and appreciated all the diverse colors used in this one. It made it a lot more interesting and less blah and bland, compared to the original.
Over the past four decades I've been journaling, mainly my dreams and the interpretations of their symbols. Yes, there are also personal experiences in them as well. I gasped when I saw the title, "Wreck This Journal"! What the fudge? Why? - - - Every little exercise brought a smile to my face. From the first when I "planted" that page under a wee tree my neighbor was having trouble growing . . . . . to the last. Freeing and wondrous. Ms. Smith, thank you for your insights!
This book is fantastic for any one at any age. I thoroughly enjoyed it along with my nine year old grandson. Its full of fun pages that will make you laugh, other pages to make lists and post memories for future looking back. >>>THANK YOU GOODREADS FIRSTREADS FOR THIS FREE BOOK!!!!!
I received this book as a giveaway. I like it and I think that It enhances your creativity while you can wreck however you want. The best part is that that there is no right or wrong just a playful way in which Keri Smith teaches people the act of creating.
This book did test my bravery a bit. Did I really want to take it into the shower with me? But it was extremely fun to do all the activities, and they were all very creative. I bought it as a birthday present and instead of getting an actual novel/book, I got this little bundle of daring. Very fun!
I destroyed this thing. I soaked it in water, rolled it down stairs, got kicked out of a library because of it, and cracked the spine. I colored on every blank page and stuck as many stickers and magazine clippings on it as I could. I completed all of the activities mentioned a couple of years ago, but get real. It will never be finished, because there’s always new ways to wreck a journal.
I kind of wish I bought the standard version before the colored one, but I like the inside cover on this one. They’re more stuff to cut out and destroy and mess up with my questionable art skills. I have had the thought multiple times that the concept of Wreck This Journal is a sign of society’s decline, but that doesn’t erase the gallons of fun I had while putting the journal in a freezer and taping dead bugs to it and making collage and putting pages in the laundry.
Very fun book for those of us who want to do an art journal but aren't sure where to start. Each page has a prompt and book really is designed to be be "wrecked". One cravat - the publishers used newsprint so some markers will bleed.
Started this as a project to do with my kids to step outside the box. We enjoyed it very much and are intrigued about the others. Glad there was an intro because it helped prepare for the wrecking journey.
Still working on it. Was a gift from my sister. She knows that even in my 30s I have time to RIP and TEAR and DESTROY a fun little book. Lots of creative instructions to get it all out.
