I am starting to like these short stories more than the longer adventures.

I love how dumb these stories are. But that's not a knock in in the slightest--the six stories in this book feature some of the dumbest characters, concocting the dumbest plans, and then doing the dumbest things and somehow still coming out of it in one piece. All of that stupidity makes for funny, casual reading for any fan of D&D (as long as you're okay with the swearing--but unlike the very first book in this series, you won't find any unsavory pejoratives, which I'm happy the author has discontinued using).

They stories are well written, with some really unique and smart ideas that make old D&D monsters fun again. For example, gelatinous cubes being used to dispose of garbage in a kingdom's dump. My favorite part is Julian's constant go-to solution of using the basic Summon Mount spell to summon horses for ridiculous reasons. Need to break your fall? Summon a horse underneath you. Want to know whether something is a booby trap? Summon a horse and order it to walk. I wonder if, at some point, we'll visit the graveyard of Julian's many dead horses.

The one real criticism I have is that a couple of the stories end super abruptly. It's not like I need a Return-of-the-King-sized ending at the end of each of these super casual reading tales, but some, like The Unwashed Asses, don't even conclude. What happened to the antagonist? Who cares--THE END.

Anyway, all in all, really enjoyed it, and recommend it to anyone looking for some stories about modern day people trapped in a fictional D&D world. Super funny stuff.

Each of the six stories have two or three typos, but none that would ruin the experience (I think the worst was when Cooper was misspelled as Cooer).

This is a collection of short stories based on the Caverns and Creatures world. In order to enjoy them you should first read at least the first Critical Failures book to understand the context.

Caverns and Creatures
A parody of Dungeons and Dragons. The book follows a group of friends that have been 'sucked/transported' into the Caverns and Creatures world. Each short story is effectively a specific 'quest/dungeon'.

Crude Humour
If you don't like your stories liberally sprinkled with swearing, banter, and crude jokes then this book is not for you.

Audio Version
This book is the type that I think works very well in the audio version. I have listened to all the Caverns and Creatures on Audible and it helps make the story that much better.

Robert Bevan generally tells interesting and fun stories, but has always been a bit too heavy with the gross humor. I had to force myself through this book as I'm really tired of the constant fart or excrement "jokes" that get in the way of the interesting stories. Since that seems to be the main theme these days, I am taking a break from this author after this book and can't bring myself to recommend this collection of stories unless you enjoy that type of humor on almost every page.

For easy reference, this collection contains the following individually sold ebooks:
- Djinngle Bells
- Genital Harpies
- The Unwashed Asses
- B.Oar Guests
- Wight Trash
- Probing the Annis

These books just keep getting better every one I read, I was laughing out loud sever times in inappropriate situations as I could not put this book down.
This is not your sophisticated New York comedy - you need to go to one of them Off Broadway places for that or your fancy British humor - watch Monty Python on Netflix or read the overrated, unfunny and boring Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for that, this is good old redneck humor - unfiltered - I was going to give some examples but just read the damn book!

Critical Failures (Caverns and Creatures Book 1) Critical Failures II (Caverns and Creatures Book 2) Critical Failures III (Caverns and Creatures Book 3) Critical Failures IV (Caverns and Creatures Book 4)

Space Puppies
Flying Toasters - The DeadPixel Tales {one of collection of writers, seems to be permafree}

Check with amazon to see if the 4 pack is still on sale, etc, I got it for 99, the 4 books listed above titled separately under the set. The smaller collections are listed on top of which this one is the 3rd collection {of 6 stories} with the titles listed for this and the others those since covering the mini collections here. I read the 4 pack, then the collections, in order, not totally sure it would matter with this genre, do suggest personally that the 4 set then the smaller collections be read in order, it did help in most cases.

Writer does list and say if you have the any of the collections include the books in this one, not need to re/read individual stories listed as are the same stories as in the collection. It's why I just got the sets and still my opinion to read in order and in sets which is easier anyway. Last checked the entire 6 set{s} was available on ku, so no need to pull up multiple books and no need to worry about order at all. Again, 4d6 (Caverns and Creatures collection 4) , see above for titles and order, but this one is is part of a 6 collection called #4 with the 6 books listed in this mini collection. after having read the 4 pack then collections 1 2 3 and 4, not sure who is more messed up, the writer or me.

...yeah i think i may have exhausted my patience with the characters.

I'm all here all the time for stories of multiple horses dying in grisly ways. The Beauty and the Beast parody made me grin. But if I never hear another shit/fart/piss joke ever in my entire like it will be too soon.

And yeah, yeah. I know this is exactly what this book is supposed to be. Maybe it was less fun than normal because I was feeling less tolerant than normal.

This was a fun, lighthearted read. Nothing to take serious for sure! If you like Harmonquest, you might like this. The writing isn't going to win any awards in the near future, but it is entertaining.

Fun stuff!

I like the quick short stories. While the jokes are getting tired, it is a good break away from the bigger novels that I've been listening to. I really do love the audio narrator though! It makes it a little better IMO.

Audible Version. There were a couple that were a little slow, but overall it was a great read. Narration as usual was great, voices for each character.

Sometimes I read a book because I want to get caught up in a gripping tale full of magic and adventure. Sometimes I read a book because I want to learn more about a particular subject. Sometimes I read a book because I want my brain to melt from the silliness of the story.

This book, and all others in this series, fits in the third category. These are not books to read to get caught up in a gripping tale, although they are filled with magic and adventure. These books are not something to read to learn more about a particular subject, although they do show a bit into the culture of those who play games like Dungeons and Dragons. These are books filled with humor and silliness. The level of the humor in these books is about on par as to movies such as Dumb and Dumber. The author does love his running gags. Many of these gags have to do with various substances going into and coming out of the various orifices of the main characters.

This particular book is a group of six short stories the author wrote for the fans of his series to entertain them while waiting for the main books come out. So we get to enjoy more adventures done by the main four characters to the series without the main story progressing.

This is a good series and I would recommend them, but don't say I didn't warn you about the type of humor you might find while reading these books.

Raunchy, Irreverent, and Awesome.

Contains the following stories, with my thoughts on the best parts (minimal spoilers):

Djinngle Bells: "Jin was the Smoke Monster"
Genital Harpies: The discussion of Ogre's Satisfaction by Bugbears
The Unwashed Asses: Cooper's definitions of amphibious
B.Oar Guests: The feather duster
Wight Trash: Julian's best misunderstandings since the drow
Probing The Annis: Cooper's probing mistake
