Profit and Peril

Rate this book
After the delivery from hell, the crew of the Lenore is ready for a well-deserved rest. But just as they reach their ship, they receive an offer they can’t refuse. Desperately needing money to repair the limping Lenore, Jack Macleef takes the job, even though it toes the line of legality. To his astonishment, the crew agrees to the illegal job. Just when Bit thinks she has her male crewmates under control, a fresh wave of romantic inclinations wash through them, and Bit is forced to deal with it the only way she knows how—with a swift fist to the eye. With half the crew tripping over itself to get to Bit, Jack flies the Lenore to Nye space station with the intention of secretly installing a nuclear reactor, freeing the station from the planetary government’s control. If he can succeed, he will have the money to repair the Lenore. If he fails, more than one life will be ruined.

My journey to become a writer began in 8th grade, when I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and pulled from school to recover. During this time, I was left alone for hours on end and it was then that I discovered new friends within the pages of books. I also learned the blessing of creating my own friends by writing down the stories that plagued my lonely mind—as demented as that sounds. Therefore at the ripe age of fourteen, I wrote my first novel. It sucked! But I kept going and now I am finalizing my first indie novel, with sequels to come, and two other series along with a fiction based blog. I never imagined that first horrible novel about a man who crash landed on his long lost home world would turn into a lifelong passion.
I now live in the

Hmm.. at this point I don't know If I would consider this a RH anymore.

There is jealously flying left and right, and all of the guys seem to like Bit in some way- But from the POV's of the guys who really like Bit they all seem to see the other men as competition, and there is no inkling or idea of sharing in their minds.

description

In this case it's just an angsty love triangle? Love square? I'm still not sure whose actually "in" and its just making for a frustrating read. Like I don't want to read about a bunch of guys trying to duke it out for this one girl who is all over the place herself-I like RH where everyone is on board and they can work as a team.

Oh and heres another Jack is kind of an ass moment:

“You noticed it all fell apart when Bit joined the crew.”

Also, miss me with that non-sensical Indentured storyline. It legit makes no sense to me. They are screaming things like “Bonders eat shit!” and “Humans only!”...like their not human?

and

"It was considered weak to have your existence be reliant on someone else. And an indentured servant was completely reliant on their owner—bonded to them in every way possible."

description

I mean thats just plain stupid. No one wants to be a slave a treated like shit or they are subhuman. Bonded implies that is was something they wanted to do in the first place and somehow enjoy or that the owner is "talking care of them" not owning a human being??

And why not be mad that there is a system for debt like this in the first place-or that its literally human slavery? Why are they protesting the person being forced to deal with being sold for someone else debts (in Bits case) when they have no rights and are branded like cattle?

Make it make sense.

I'm really like reading about Bit and the Crew of the freighter Lenore however as I have mentioned in the past two books, even though its interesting and keeps you wanting to know what will happen next the eBook version I have read via Kobo seems to have a bunch of issues. There are typo's aplenty, the odd sentence that leaves you thinking, ehhh? Basically said sentence reads wrong. Plus there are the continuity issues that crop up on and off since book one. Saying that if you can get past them issues the book is a good read. I'm not sure if it's just the Kobo three book pack that has these issues or if the other books are more polished versions. I do want to read the follow ups to find out if Bit is successful in finding her niece/nephew, but... honestly I'm not sure if I want to pay full price for them if they have the same issues as the three books I have already read. On the other side I do want to find out what happens.. aggh!...

Basically as I said before, really good story line, interesting characters, if the writing was more polished, the issues ironed out this would be a really great read worthy of 5 stars.

This installment sees Bit on yet another perilous journey with her owner and the rest of the spaceship crew. It is a secret and dangerous mission but Bit is determined to do her best.

We see how Bit develops - her skills and emotions - and yet her past and her personal mission deter her from becoming too close to anyone. She is a sad though courageous young woman; if sometimes stubborn.

The feelings of the crew are varying, although they seem to accept Bit as one of their own...some deeper than others.

What all this will mean can only be guessed.

There is plenty of action and intrigue, with a great writing style.

Recommended reading.

Action packed

This book is action packed and there is always a cliff hanger but I fell in love with the characters and there is always the promise of love on the horizon. Can't wait to see what happens next.Bit is finding out who she really is and what she is capable of in spite of and often because of all the obstacles in her way

Bit Gets Strong

The shipping company is getting further and further into the red, so when Jack is offered an illegal deal to transport a nuclear reactor to a space station, he, and the crew, jump at the payday. During the course of the book they are stalked, attacked, and duped. The adventure is non-stop.

Also during the course of the book Bit finally starts to find a place of her own on board ship and with her crew mates, despite sometimes fighting a losing battle over their treatment of her. Physically she is starting to get stronger from regular good sized meals and exercise. It’s good to start to see her come into her own.

As with the previous books, it’s a good solid story with an interesting plot and developing characters. An entertaining read.

Profit and Peril followed the same formula as the first 2 books; dangerous cargo, danger to the crew. It's a fast paced, entertaining read. Bit is continuing to grow into a capable, strong woman. She has moments of immaturity and still makes some poor decisions, but she has changed so much since she left Earth. I felt like this book was a bit repetitive of the first two at times. I'm a bit impatient with the slow development between Bit and the crew. I want the relationships furthered. But overall, this series is very enjoyable.

Lots of action going on. I have to say I'm disappointed in Blaine and the way things turned out. I really liked the crew. I didn't like some of the new characters but I believe that was supposed to happen. Still loving this series.
