From beloved storyteller Anna Dewdney comes the perfect way to give a Llama Llama Thanksgiving board book!
In Llama Llama Gives Thanks , it's Thanksgiving time for Llama Llama and his family! That means yummy foods and autumn leaves and being thankful for everything from pumpkin pies to blue skies. Thanksgiving may only come once year, but in Llama's family, giving thanks is always here!
With short and simple rhyming text, the Llama Llama board books introduce Llama Llama to babies and toddlers before they’re ready for longer full-length stories. And their small size and durable pages are perfect for little hands.
Llama Llama Gives Thanks was one of Anna’s final projects before she passed on in 2016. Her love of language, playful sensibility, and ability to entertain and comfort young children are evident in all of her books.
Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.
Who doesn't love a llama????? These were grateful llamas welcoming in the the autumnal season in all the ways we want our littlest citizens to muster up some inner-reflections and give thanks to the family and friends who care for them. Once that is mastered a broader rainbow of thankfulness can be considered. . . .
Sweet, simple rhyming book with adorable, as always, pictures. My daughter and I like this one and she likes being able to complete the lines as I read.
We have read in the past other Llama Llama books as a family. So when I found they had a book for thanksgiving I thought this was perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday. This book is fourteen pages long and a board book. Anna Dewdney has written 29 Llama Llama works. "Llama Llama Gives Thanks," is about Llama Llama and his family celebrating Thanksgiving. That means yummy food and spending time with family. This book is short and full of simple rhymes.
My younger two kids really enjoyed this book and how simple it was for them to understand what was taking place in the book. Anna Dewdney really created this book for younger kids in mind with the simple text. My older kids enjoyed it as well and laughed at the amazing illustrations throughout this book. The illustrations are colorful and really draw your eyes throughout the book. They also tell the story in more depth then the simple text. It's a perfect book to introduce what Thanksgiving is about to children.
Llama Llama Gives Thanks By: Anna Dewdney, is a wonderful book for kids of all ages and even those who might not even celebrate Thanksgiving. This book is so much bigger than the holiday itself, in showing the diversity of friends and family present, along with all the different types of food being made. It shows Llama Llama inviting loved ones into their home to spend time with one another, and not only being thankfully for the food they ate together, but for the people they were sharing with. It gave a good visual representation of the season they were in with pictures of trees and leaves of different colors falling with the breeze. Overall this book diversifies the holiday into something that is appropriate regardless of the holiday or if your students partake in it, the big message here is that we have many things to be thankful for.
Jack borrowed this book from the Ashland Public Library.
To be fair, we have yet to read the original Llama Llama book, so we might be missing some subtleties or pointed patterns. That being said, the illustrations are cute and the llama family and their guests (wildebeests?) look like a fun crowd. I wish there were more complete sentences and a wider range of vocabulary. Jack paid attention for a few pages, but he wasn't really into it.
Browsing books to give my friends' children as gifts since I won't gift anything I haven't first read myself.
Another holiday book for the littlest Llama Llama fans. This is an abbreviated take on Thanksgiving, given tiny attention spans, but even then felt a bit abrupt. I think it could have done with a few more "thankful fors" to be complete. Still really cute though, and a definite contender for the board book crew.
This is a sweet little boardbook that is good for Thanksgiving and the holiday season. It is great for small people with short attention spans. Little dude enjoyed pointing out the details in the illustrations.
This one was disappointing for me. We do own it because my son loves Llama Llama, but there really isn’t much to it. There are maybe 4 words on a page, some of which don’t flow or make much sense. There are better choices out there for thanksgiving toddler books.
This book is much more than Thanksgiving. This book teaches children the importance of giving thanks every day rather than just once a year on this holiday. This story gives readers a sense of what this holiday is about.
This sweet board book was the perfect read for my "Baby Birds" preschool class. They're already fans of our beloved Llama Llama and this helped to make the concept of being thankful easy to understand.
