This is SO in styling and language written by a politician. Points of it being quite interesting; but the majority holds great tracts of platitudes and generalizations for which most humans would tend to agree, IMHO. But what do they really translate into policy? For my understanding it was far more idealization, platform of ideas than directions of practical applications for their evolving in the French identity and ideal he conceptualizes. Just my opinion, but does he say a lot to mean very little. Change can mean just about anything. I wanted far more details about how and why and in what forms by law.

He's so young and I admire his gusto.

It does tell you quite a bit about himself, but I found it extremely dry reading. Some of his ideas seem to me to be complete dichotomies for the systems he inherits here- to be able to apply them.

I was hoping that he will talk more about his childhood, path, University life, work life, how he decided to run for the Presidency. He does talk about it but it was very brief, hence four stars.
Really good book for political scientists, he writes about his ideas on policies, how he wants France to be. Of course, the ideas were broad and the solutions to some of those ideas were not so clear, but you can tell he wants the best for France, at least that was my impression after reading this book.
I took my time with the book, because you kind of need your total attention to it. I have learned a lot, and I got few good ideas about my thesis, so thanks Macron.

Het is aanvankelijk even wennen aan de schrijfstijl: Revolutie! leest als een manifest met soms hoogdravend taalgebruik en vooral heel veel 'bold statements'. Maar Macron is tevens filosoof en generatiegenoot, dus al gauw let je niet meer op de vorm en houdt zijn wervende, actuele en verfrissende gedachtengoed je in haar greep. Over 100 jaar is dit boek sowieso een klassieker.

Macron wil verandering, op alle fronten. In hoe de politiek in Frankrijk - en in bredere zin: Europa - op dit moment opereert. Maar ook in hoe we aankijken tegen innovatie ("Frankrijk moet de technologische koploper van Europa worden"), oude economie ("Tijden zijn veranderd, we worden nooit meer het industrieland van vroeger"), onderwijs ("ik daag iedereen uit om compleet nieuwe vormen van lesmethoden, school en onderwijs te bedenken") en emancipatie ("Een volk kan niet correct vertegenwoordigd worden door politici waarbij slechts 1 op de 4 vrouw is en 75% advocaat of bankier"). Franse nostalgie en de aloude kernwaarden liberté, egalité en fraternité worden naadloos verweven in zijn vooruitstrevende plannen.

Het boek is eenvoudig opgebouwd: In 16 hoofdstukken snijdt Macron steeds een ander thema van zijn verkiezingsprogramma aan. Van landbouw, onderwijs, Buitenland en Europa tot vluchtelingen, klimaatbeleid, emancipatie en staatsvorming. Alles moet anders, maar tegelijkertijd wil Macron vooralsnog geen wet veranderen. "Laten we eerst maar eens kijken wat we kunnen bewerkstelligen binnen de kaders die er nu al liggen. Wetswijzigingen hebben in het verleden maar zelden geleid tot de oplossing van een probleem". In plaats daarvan roept hij iedereen op om een actievere bijdrage aan verandering te leveren.

Zijn betoog is niet links, niet rechts, nimmer belerend en overgoten met optimisme. Een must-read voor iedereen die geen problemen maar kansen ziet. Nu is het afwachten of zijn revolutie die broodnodige verandering in Frankrijk ook daadwerkelijk tot stand brengt, en of de rest van Europa volgt.

Qui dit qu’Emmanuel Macron n’a pas un programme devrait lire ce livre. M. Macron donne un clair analyse de la situation en France et apporte quelques pistes pour améliorer le fonctionnement de la république. Le livre donne l’espoir que la France peut changer. Le titre est trop fort. M. Macron ne demande pas vraiment une révolution, plutôt un changement avec une bonne dose de l’intelligence.

C'est une excellente lecture pour comprendre la pensée d'Emmanuel Macron et sa formation. C'est une sorte d'exposé programmatique, mais pas uniquement: il s'enrichit de réflexions de philosophie politique et d'éthique. Une grande partie du programme d'En Marche pour l'élection présidentielle française de 2017 est basée sur ces idées. Bien sûr, le pragmatisme du candidat et de son équipe ont obligés à certaines mises à jour. Certaines idées ont un peu changé, d'autres ont même été éliminées. Mais ce livre reste intéressant, ne serait-ce que pour comprendre l'évolution politique d'Emmanuel Macron mais aussi à titre d'essai fondateur d'un social-libéralisme à la française.

This started off really interesting. It started to turn into a political statement - almost like a pre-election statement. Still enjoyed the book - I do agree with his ideas. Interesting to hear that France has very similar issues to ourselves in the UK.

Macron, apesar de oferece análises interessantes acerca do papel do Estado Francês na Europa e no mundo, bem como uma visão particular e interessante dos franceses enquanto sociedade, passa a maior parte do livro falando chatices entediantes e vagas. Mas ele esqueceu de ponderar (por ingenuidade ou por omissão deliberada) que a política não é tão simples quanto ele a pressupõe. Encerrará seu mandato sem ter cumprido mais de 60% das propostas que apresenta neste exemplar, eu asseguro.

Qui est Macron à l'âge si jeune de devenir Président de la République? Surtout, il est un homme qui sait capter l"espoir des français qui croient affronter la réalité du monde fera retrouver l'espérance au pays de pourvoir défier les règles de la vie politique pour transformer une société rongée par le doute, le chômage, les divisions matérielles et morales. Plus que tout Macron est un homme convaincu que le peuple en général y compris les syndicats et cadres, sont disposés de réévaluer leurs responsabilités à la France et à l'Europe en matière diplomatique et militaire afin de mobiliser le pays vers une mondialisation aux bénéfices de leur sécurité individuelle et collective.

Macron présente des stratégies nombreuse pour que le gouvernement français ainsi que les 26 pays de l'Union européenne dont le lancement de nouveaux budgets pour des gardes- frontières contre le terrorisme, pour le développement de la technologie, et la création de débouchés de travail font part. Marron se met à combat en se donnant toute sa force pour le servir.

Il nous inspire avec ses mots au service.
" Pour mener ce combat, la responsabilité du président de la République est immense. J'en suis pleinement conscient. Un président n'est pas seulement investi d'une action. Il porte aussi d'une manière moins visible, tout ce qui dans l'État transcende la politique. Les valeurs de notre pays, la continuité de son Histoire, et, de manière cachée, la vigueur et la dignité d'une vie publique.
J'y suis prêt."

Je suis assez mitigée suite à ma lecture. Les grandes idées évoqués dans le livre sont assez intéressantes, cependant je trouve qu’elles ne sont pas assez développés : beaucoup de généralisation, avec lesquelles il est facile d’être d’accord, mais peu de proposition et d’idées concrètes pour les mettre en place en politique.

Dans la grande majorité, je suis assez d’accord avec les points qu’il abordent, mais cependant on y retrouve un manque de concrétisation, ce ne sont que de belles paroles sans réel application. Quand, avec le recul, on observe les actions qu’Emmanuel Macron a mit en place durant son quinquennat, j’ai du mal à retrouver cette même volonté de révolutionner la politique, qu’il évoquait dans son livre. Cependant, il est sûr qu’il s’est retrouvé confronté au gilets jaunes premièrement, puis ensuite au coronavirus, qui on entravé son mandat. Je me demande donc bien comment ces projet se serait réaliser sans ces deux crises successives

Il libro si prefigge di introdurre dei neofiti al magico mondo delle democrazie liberali e laiche. Credo che sentire la storia do Macron e la sua formazione liberale sia di conforto per molti. Credo che il libro spieghi molto bene e in modo avvincente le differenze fra democrazie europee e altri modelli politici. Le parole di Macron quando parla degli obiettivi dello stato sono eccezional anche che se a volte inbevute di retorica nazionalista spiccia. Emerge una caratura del personaggio e una certa idea di mondo molto lontana da ciò che spesso si dice di Lui. Le parti sulle Europa sono già superare dai tempi ma le critiche rimangono spesso valide e andranno risolte negli anni.

Emmanuel Macron has been an intriguing politician since he came onto the scene in the 2010s. A man of seeming contradiction, this becomes even more apparent in the book. He discusses quite a bit how he won't take sides but one of his biggest problems in France today is that. Many in France do not think Macron is able to take a serious stand on a variety of issues and this has led to a rise in popularity of both the further left wing and right wings parties. This trend will most likely continue and Macron's party most likely has it's days numbered.

Macron also seems to hold views that are too contradictory to ever form a coherent national, or international, strategy. And that has become abundantly clear now that we are in the year 2022, many years into his presidency.

This is a book best read in small chunks! It can be a little exhausting otherwise. I picked this up after a trip to Rouen with university (where I study French) where we watched his inauguration speech - Macron speaks very well, and he is a very mew and 'exciting' change in politics. This book was also very interesting - I enjoyed learning a little of Macron's background and he had some very apt and encouraging views on gender equality, the environment, employment and policing which I thouroughly enjoyed reading! The last two chapters lag a little, but his passion for France and his dreams for the future come through really clearly, and I'm definitely glad I gave thisva read!

I remember thinking at points while reading this "wow that's a good idea...but tell me more..." and like a true politician, Macron...continued to be vague. I can tell I agree with a lot of his policies on things like social welfare benefits and retraining/education, but most things in this book were so vague I can't differentiate what he said from what most liberal politicians would say regarding the same topics. I gave it a 3 because it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't very riveting and was a bit of a slow read for me (or at least it felt that way). The English translation shows Macron to at least be well-spoken and articulate, which I appreciate more and more from leaders these days.

Een breed uitgewerkt partijprogramma met hier en daar een persoonlijke toets. Helaas weinig over de romance met Brigitte. We zullen Paris Match moeten lezen als we daarover meer willen weten.

Zijn belezenheid en visie maken van Macron een intellectueel in de brede zin van het woord. Een verademing in het geestelijk dorre politieke landschap van vandaag de dag. Hij is een minnaar van de letteren: "Ik leefde van teksten en woorden. De dingen kregen diepte als ze beschreven werden, en dan werden ze soms werkelijker dan de werkelijkheid zelf."

Iets verder: "Ik kende de natuur, de bloemen en de bomen door de stijl van de schrijvers en nog meer door de betovering die ze daarmee opriepen. Van Colette leerde ik wat een kat was, of een bloem, en van Giono hoe koud de wind in de Provence is en wat karakters eigenlijk zijn."

Enig voorbehoud: Macron weet beter dan wie ook welk publiek hij kan overtuigen met dit soort van ontboezemingen. De kiezers van Marine Le Pen lezen dit soort boeken niet. De onbesliste kiezer die zich niet laat leiden door impulsen en zijn stem uitbrengt op basis van een programma zal wel degelijk gecharmeerd worden door de schoonschrijverij van de beau.

Maar ik moet toegeven dat hij me heeft weten te strikken. Voor het eerst sinds lang passeert er iemand die niet vies is van een visie. Weet je wat wat de Nederlandse minister-president Mark Rutte zegt als iemand tegen hem over visie begint. "Visie? Ga eens naar de oogarts met je visie." Om maar te zeggen: de meeste politici komen niet verder dan wat de dagelijkse tweet hen inlepelt.

Macron zegt dat grootste vijand apathie heet. We mogen werkloosheid, vergane industrie en een achterhaald onderwijssysteem niet accepteren. Er moet geïnvesteerd worden in de toekomst en hij schuift daarvoor 3 kernpunten naar voren: onderwijs en bijscholing, een ecologische ommezwaai en glasvezel in heel Frankrijk.

In het boek gaat het opvallend veel over landbouw. "Sommige sectoren kunnen niet worden overgelaten aan het spel van de vrije markt," schrijft hij, en haalt de precaire situatie van de Franse boeren aan. Via langdurige contracten wil hij de prijs reguleren zodat landbouwers altijd zeker zijn van hun inkomen.

Het boek bulkt van zulke voorstellen. Het is duidelijk: Macron est un homme avec un plan. Is het mogelijk dat hij zich wil scharen in de traditie van de "staatsman/vrouw"? Hij heeft alleszins geen hoge dunk van het blik waaruit de hedendaagse generaties politici zijn uitgekropen: "Het belangrijkste vóór alles is uit welk hout de mensen zijn gesneden. Toen de politieke leiders en de hoogwaardigheidsbekleders van dit land bij de ondergrondse zaten tijdens WO II, of een paar maanden bij de pantsereenheden, gedroegen zij zich niet op dezelfde manier als nu. Maar het is duidelijk dat de publieke moraal, de beleving van de geschiedenis en de kwaliteit van de leiders niet meer hetzelfde zijn als vroeger, en dat voelen onze landgenoten."

Macron lijkt, anders dan bijvoorbeeld de Canadese premier Justin Trudeau die het devies "links lullen, maar rechts handelen" huldigt, trouw te blijven aan wat hij op papier heeft toevertrouwd. Dat we zoveel argwaan koesteren tegenover een politicus zegt veel over hoe vaak ons vertrouwen in het verleden al werd beschadigd. Als hij toch een goed verborgen neoliberaal blijkt te zijn... ach, dan hebben we nog altijd die romance met Brigitte om ons aan te warmen.

Current President of France Emmanuel Macron presents his ideas in "Revolution". One thing admirable of Macron is his great understanding of the current world, which in my view is very important for a world leader. He understands the main drivers, threats, changes and innovations. At many times Macron proposes a very intresting ideas: political parties have closed themselves in either left or right; and both have failed to provide a concrete solution to the problems at hand. This is why, Macron proposes an alternative movement "En Marche!", which is neither left or right.

I found quite intresting this point of view, and many of his ideas presented I found them innovative. However, at times he sounded a bit ambigous and is a rethoric which has the danger of being accused of emptyness. You are NEITHER left OR RIGHT, then what makes you? What is center? Is it agreeing with everything and everyone, or is it the proposal of something completley new, taking some elements from traditional parties.

I do not feel that Macron is completley empty of ideas, and that being center is lacking any type of political plan. He does has some type of base for his whole political movement. Pesonally I am somebody who agrees with some postules of the left (specially regarding social policies, and some type of aid to "help those who have less"), however I am all in favour of a free market economy, with little state intervention. I do not wish an obese state which is present in every single aspect of life and does not let its civil society breath. I think that Macron proposes some very intresting ideas, however at certain moments he sounded a little ambigous.

Another reason this book was very intresting is because it gave an insight of the current state of French Politics. As someone who is not from France, Macron made brief mentions of problems in education, housing, economy and unemployment which are being debated and affect French citizens which I had no idea about. More precicely, what is exacly the issue with this themes: people abandoning education among others.

I am somebody who comes from Uruguay. A very small country, is not exacly the most relevant when it comes to world affairs or even regional affairs of South America. France on the other hand is a country which has a long history, an ex colonial empire, permanent member of the Security Council, predominant role in European Union...yet is a country that at times is falling into oblivion. Now other actors are appearing in the scene. The book provided me with some intresting clues that are a matter to a world leader who had a nation which such relevance as France.

Printr‑o complicitate intelectuală care, zi după zi, s‑a transformat într‑o proximitate sensibilă. Apoi, fără ca vreunul dintre noi să lupte pentru asta, într‑o pasiune care durează şi acum. Mă duceam zilnic să scriu împreună cu ea o piesă de teatru. Şi asta a ţinut câteva luni. Odată scrisă, ne‑am hotărât să o punem în scenă tot împreună. Stăteam de vorbă despre absolut orice. Scrisul ajunsese un pretext. Descopeream că parcă ne cunoşteam dintotdeauna. După câţiva ani am reuşit să trăiesc viaţa pe care mi‑o doream. Eram amândoi de nedespărţit, în ciuda vânturilor potrivnice. La şaisprezece ani am plecat din provincie la Paris. Transhumanţă specifică multor tineri francezi. Pentru mine a fost cea mai frumoasă dintre aventuri. Mă mutam într‑un loc care nu exista decât în romane, urma s‑o iau pe dru­muri bătute de personajele lui Flaubert sau ale lui Hugo. Eram purtat de ambiţia devoratoare a tinerilor lupi ai lui Balzac. M‑am bucurat de acei ani trăiţi pe coama dealului Sainte‑Geneviève. N‑am contenit să‑nvăţ zi după zi. Dar, tre­buie s‑o recunosc, dacă la Amiens eram în frunte în fiecare an, la Paris nu mă afirmam cine ştie ce. Am descoperit în jurul meu talente inedite, adevărate genii într‑ale matematicii, pe când eu eram mai degrabă un student silitor. Mai trebuie să mărturisesc şi că în acei primi ani parizieni am ales să trăiesc şi să iubesc mai mult decât să mă dedic competiţiei dintre studenţi. Aveam o obsesie, o idee fixă: să‑mi trăiesc viaţa pe care mi‑am ales‑o, împreună cu femeia pe care o iubeam. Şi să fac tot posibilul pentru a ajunge la asta. Cum uşile Şcolii Normale Superioare îmi rămâneau închise, am intrat din convingere la filosofie, la Nanterre şi, cu un noroc fără margini, la Ştiinţe Politice.
