5 I love the Carpathian World Stars

“Every time. With every breath,” she said instantly, reaching back to circle his neck with her arm. “You will always be my choice.”-Emeline

***Spoilers***

27 books and I just can't get enough. This series never gets old, I never get bored, and I hate every time I get to the end because I know I will have to wait a whole year to get the next book in the series. That or do another of many rereads. I don't know how Christine Feehan does it but the Dark series is like an addiction to me. I am so in love with the magical Carpathians that I tell everyone I know about it.

“So you have no objection if I attempt to bind you to me with the ritual words. My soul to yours, understanding it cannot possibly work if we are not true lifemates. With the full understanding that if it did work, you would be bound to me for all eternity.” She patted the couch again. “If you lie down right here and rest, then you can say the words to me and see for yourself that they won’t work.”-Dragomir and Emeline

“Overwrought?” He repeated the word slowly as if he’d never heard it before. “Woman, a Carpathian hunter cannot possibly get overwrought. I just want to give you every possible opportunity to say you do not want me to bind you to me. I know you are my lifemate. I am ancient, and I do not always understand your modern world or the way women act toward their men. I believe it is my duty and privilege, my honor, to make you happy, but I am not certain I am capable of it when I believe strongly that my woman follows where I lead.”-Dragomir

I love that Dark Legacy gives us fans more of the mysterious monastery ancients. Dragomir was amazing. Powerful warrior, protective, and totally devoted to his lifemate, Dragomir is everything I have come to love and expect from my Carpathian males. Emeline had some major issues. In a previous book Emeline was kidnapped, tortured, and sexually assaulted by the evil master vampire Vadim. We find out in this book that Emeline was pregnant by Vadim. So to say that Emeline had issues is an understatement. I love how accepting and supportive Dragomir was with Emeline. And just like in Dark Melody Dragomir gave Em and the baby (girl) blood to make the baby his. I thought it was so sweet when he would talk to the baby telling her that he loved her and wanted her. The smexy time in this book was spot on but CF always writes some steamy romances.

You need to spend a little time at the computer. The days are long past where we kill our enemies and are glorified in song. Dragomir frowned. You were glorified in song? Of course. My deeds were great. Weren’t yours? My deeds were great, and yet no one glorified me in song. Köd alte hän. Darkness curse it, Sandu. That’s just not right. There must be some mistake.-Sandu and Dragomir

“I want all of you to remember, Amelia is my daughter. I have taken her and her siblings as my children. I would track any man who harmed her to the ends of the earth.” “Do I look like I’m going to kill a child?” Dragomir snapped aloud. He had an expressionless mask for a face. There was a multitude of scars, but he didn’t show what he was thinking. “Yes.” Tariq looked him in the eye. “That’s exactly what you looked like. You also look as if there might be a few others willing to help.” “Were you ever glorified in song?” Dragomir asked abruptly. Tariq’s brows came together. He looked at Dragomir as if he’d grown two heads. “Yes. Of course I was. Several centuries ago. Weren’t you?” “Köd alte hän, darkness curse it and all songs glorifying the lot of you.”-Tariq and Dragomir

Something else that Christine Feehan is great at writing is some kickass fights. The action in these books helps to balance out the perfect romances going on in each book which keep them from becoming pure fluff. The vampire fights in this book were very detailed and exciting. There was tons of action and the pace of this book never slowed down, but it never felt rush either. I really loved getting more Gary. He was so powerful and stoic. Although Gary broke my heart at times being so cold and hard. Now I did see little pieces of my sweet nerdy Gary in there but I want him back with emotions. Knowing how much he is suffuring is driving me crazy. I need Gary to get his book and Soon!!!!!!! Please Christine Feehan give my Gary his book! I will say that I really loved all the ancients in this book. They had such a special bond with each other, especially Sandu, Ferro, and Andor. They were so funny at times. I can't wait for them to get their HEA. One of the things I love the most about this series besides the love stories, is that the plot just keeps growing. It gets better and more interesting with each new book. In this book the warriors found a Carpathian woman kidnapped for 100s of years I can't wait to see that story line. Overall a great read for me. I am a hardcore Christine Feehan fan and as long as she keeps writing them I will keep reading them. I just wished I didn't have to wait a full year for the next one!

No worries, I am creating a nice habitat for the black witch moth. It isn’t small, it has a seven-inch wing span, but the undead would not believe a hunter would use such a creature to spy on them. I, however, will have to give my moth at least eight inches to be realistic. Dragomir nearly choked. Leave it to Sandu. The black witch moth was legendary as a harbinger of death. And eight inches? It was starting. He shouldn’t have shared humor with any of them. Found another entrance here on the street. Ferro this time. I will go in as a black witch moth. Perhaps I should make my wingspan that little bit bigger as in keeping with my size. Say, nine inches? Dragomir would have laughed if his present form allowed it. They might not find humor in the things they said, but they were funny. Now that he had regained his emotions, he shared them automatically with the others. It had been so long since any of them had felt anything, they almost didn’t remember what humor was. If we went by that, I would have to go for a ten-inch wingspan, Andor said, his voice droll. Sandu, I hope that you do not feel embarrassed. Given that much larger than eight or nine inches is going to draw attention and be smashed first by some stubby vampire, I have no reason to feel this emotion – this embarrassment you speak of. That rules out my twelve-inch wingspan, Benedik grumbled.-Sandu, Ferro, Andor, and Benedik

Another awesome read! I’m loving the past few Carpathian books in this series! Christine Feehan has done a great job of upping her game and creating a fresh storyline for a long series! She has also introduced a bunch of ancient Carpathians who I am totally dying to get their stories. I hope they all find their life mates!

My only complaint is the same as the last book I read... that is she has got to stop being so repetitive with her words. Other than that I have loved being back in this world!

A very different story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: 🧐😕😍😗😘

The heroine(s): Emeline Sanchez - Best friend to Blaze from Dark Crime, Emeline was sent away by Blaze when she was fighting against the gang who killed her father. However, Emeline returned and was taken by a master Vampire, Vadim Malinoff, who raped her and forced her to exchange blood with him so he could speak to her in her mind and track her wherever she goes.

The Hero(s): Dragomir Coatzl - An ancient Carpathian, one of the few that lived in the monastery high up in the Carpathian mountains. They lived in the monastery because they had lived so long that they no longer see in color or feel emotions and are dangerous to others. The ancients from the monastery have come down to find mates after a few of their brethren.

The Story: Dragomir knows from the start that Emeline is his life mate, though Vadim told Emeline that she was his life mate and she thought she was dirty because of what Vadim did to her. She also has a secret for which she thinks if known would force the Carpathians that are keeping her safe to kick her out.

This was quite different than the books I have read so far. I have been jumping around a bit in this series which didn’t bother me much because each book is its own story even though there are people from previous books that sometimes appear in later books. However, I found that I was missing some information about the Vampires.

Becoming a Vampire is what happens to ancient Carpathians who grow tired of the world and are not able to see color or feel emotions, if the Carpathian no longer cares about staying honorable they become a Vampire and start feeding on humans indiscriminately. They are after the high that comes from feeding on a human feeling fear where their blood is full of adrenaline.

I knew all that and I knew that Carpathians kill the Vampires by punching into their chest, grabbing the heart and removing it before burning it up with a lightning strike. I also knew that the blood of Vampires burns the Carpathians like acid, while Vampires can drink the blood of the Carpathians. However, I didn’t know why.

It is because the Vampires have parasites in their blood. So I can see why Emeline thinks she is tainted and dirty. It was gross actually, and the process to remove the parasites from Emeline was exceedingly detailed and I could definitely see the whole process in my mind. Which was awesome world building on the part of Christine Feehan!

The narration was done by Jim Frangione. I generally like dual narration and dual POV. I also like when the narration is done by someone whose voice I can imagine as the characters. However, I really like Jim Frangione’s narration. I can’t really imagine him being one of the characters but he has a great voice for just having someone read the story to you. He does most of the Black Dagger Brotherhood audiobooks as well and I have always enjoyed his narration.

This is the story of the ancient Carpathian, Dragomir Koziel, one of the recently discovered ancient monastery males, and Emeline Sanchez, a human psychic currently residing within the Carpathian compound of her friend Blaise and her lifemate Maksim. I was crazy with excitement when it was announced that it was Dragomir who would find his lifemate in this book and be restored to life. Dragomir did not disappoint. He was old-world charming, fiercely protective, and completely devoted to the one he waited a lifetime to find. Emeline, however, was the classic self-doubting, angst-filled damsel in distress. Emeline’s obsessing over the same doubts ad nauseum filled pages that might have been a journey of a couple meeting, coming together, and falling deeply in love.

I prefer my romances to be about the hero and heroine only, otherwise the whole mood of the story ruined for me. Plotlines involving sexual violence and the heroine becoming a martyr on the villain’s altar are tiresome. It’s frustrating when heroines, who are imbued with extraordinary gifts, are overpowered by the male villain. Emeline’s crippling fear, doubts, and huge secret grew and grew like cancer then hovered like some bête noir over the relationship.

There were some sweet moments between Dragomir and Emeline, mostly him reassuring her about lack of self-worth and esteem. Dragomir had waited a centuries for his one and only, completely accepted his broken woman, and absorbed all of her issues. The heroine left me rolling my eyes and feeling sorry for the hero. I did like the tone of the sex scenes; they were intimate and conveyed what was happening between the characters. But the intimacy was muted by Emeline’s emotional and physical limitations.

I loved seeing young Liv again and the stone dragons going into battle against the vampire horde was exciting. Nevertheless, it seems that the same past enemies have stalked the Carpathians to the States and threaten to destabilize and terrorize this budding community.

There was interesting new information revealed as to what happens to the male’s soul, (which is placed in the care of the unborn female), if his life mate dies. It is both hopeful and hopeless because if a lifemate dies, she will be reborn again and again. However, there is no way for the Carpathian to know what century, time, place, or continent she will be reborn to. So he has to wait and suffer. But the discovery of a lost ancient (and with the gifts of the Triad from Dark Promises) may help mitigate long years of fruitless searching.

On the whole, this book left me just feeling content. It was a solid read, only because of Dragomir, he made this book for me. He was everything I expected of an ancient Carpathian male and I wish I could give him ten stars. But with Dark Legacy, I wasn’t left feeling all warm and floaty like I did with Charlotte and Tariq in Dark Carousel and with Blaise and Maksim in Dark Crime. I wanted blissful escapism and I so wanted to wrap myself in Dragomir and Emeline’s story. But her crippling fear, bad decisions, and dreaded secret left me feeling anxious, irritated, and queasy...hence the deduction of one star.

Emeline takes center stage as she emerges on the scene. Her tale is nightmarish, woven with dangers and mystery.

Dragomir was badass from the start! He's the kind of blood sucker you want fighting off demon zombies, rogue vampires and the gentleman walking by your side. And dragons...who doesn't love reading about those? Yeah this was damn sure one of Christine Feehan best, can't wait for the next powerful installment! Sign me up.....

Thrilled! I was thrilled with this book in the series. I have stated numerous times that I don't do erotica but I still read Christine Feehan, because she has good plots. I need a plot. I absolutely loved this book , because it was a story line that made me feel, that had me rooting and shouting for "Emmy" and some twists, some surprises, and is leaving me in anticipation of where she is taking this series, who is the next book about? This book united some of the original in thought and action, the series being tied together, the old and the new. Thank you! I am thrilled I could give it a 5 and sincerely mean it. I asked for this book so I could review, and received it a free copy. Again, thank you!!

Dark Legacy is a powerfully provoking read that takes us to the western coast, of a powerful vampire, an innocent woman in trouble and a Carpathian who has found his lifemate after centuries of searching....

Dark Legacy is such a wonderful read and it definitely lived up to my expectations and there were so many fun elements about this installment. This series might be so long, but it's going so strong and this is a true testament to Feehan's talent. She is such a talented author. It was this very series that got me hooked on the paranormal genre, and as I have followed this series over the years, I fall in love with it constantly, year after year, seeing this great world that Feehan has penned that is captivating and enthralling. What a journey this author has taken us readers. In Dark Legacy, we have a story that follows the few previous books.

So some background information for those that haven't read this series. We have a group of people called "Carpathians", who originated in Europe, but after centuries have spread further out. Due to the many wars in the Dark Ages, many of the Carpathian people were murdered trying to help their neighbors fights Turks and many other groups. And now there are just a few females, and their people are dying. But somehow since learning that there are gifted women in the world that are compatible to be turned and be lifemates to the males who have gone centuries fighting vampires and evil creatures.  And the women that are their lifemates bring back color and emotion to the Carpathian males and keeps them from turning evil.
I believe it is my duty and privilege, my honor, to make you happy, but I am not certain I am capable of it when I believe strongly that my woman follows where I lead.”

In this story, we have our heroine, Emeline, who while trying to protect and save children was captured by a master vampire and tortured and raped violently. She was then rescued and brought to a sanctuary. Emeline considers herself dirty and unclean and not worthy of protection. She is pregnant by being raped by the master vampire and he is searching for her and left a sliver of himself inside of her so he can always find her and speak to her. Emeline is kind and caring and has a gentle nature. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. But she has dreams, of the man claiming to be her lifemate who will be killed trying to protect her. Dragomir is a strong Carpathian male and has been searching for centuries for his lifemate and finds her, but she is in danger from one of the most powerful vampires he has ever encountered. The beginning of the story just pulls you in pretty quickly in the story. There is quite a bit of suspense and action and I was captivated. But then we get to see the strong relationship that Dragomir and Emeline have together. Dragomir may be this big badass alpha male, but he is so tender and understanding with Emeline. I love how protective and accepting he is of her. He just loves her and will do anything to make her happy and make her feel safe.
There must be some mistake.

We also get some great side cast of characters, the most influential and the one I love seeing throughout this whole series but has yet to have his own book is our beloved Gary. He definitely has changed through the books, who was once mortal and was changed to a Carpathian, but when you turn a male, it is quite different and Gary was filled with thousands of years of memories and knowledge and the darkness that comes with that. His lifemate is merely an infant currently and he is barely holding on. He has great healing capabilities. Gary is probably one of my top favorite characters from the WHOLE series so I loved seeing what a big part he played in this book and it will be a great day when Feehan writes his book. Because like many other readers that love this series....Gary is definitely a fan favorite.

Another fun aspect was seeing this group of Carpathians just come together and fight for one another and these innocent children who were tormented. I love how they just accept them and most especially Emeline who is really struggling with self-worth issues. What really changes for her though is the support and love these men and women have for her and her little daughter growing inside of her. Emeline has some powerful gifts and I love seeing this in her She is obviously recovering from serious trauma but we see her strength and courage. She is capable of dream walking and even of being able to change the sex of her baby without the vampire's knowledge which has never been done before. I love how unique she is because I felt such a kinship to her character. She had many qualities that I could see in myself and many other women I know personally. I love how that resonates in Emeline and seeing how she overcomes her past trauma and fights in her own way.
He saw trust. Complete trust. It was a gift, a precious one, and it humbled him. I've got you, Emeline. I will always be with you.

We also get some unique happening at the end of the book here. We get two new powerful Carpathian women that have disappeared for centuries and we find out what happens to them and wow I was amazed since I have a feeling that these women will play a huge role in the future of the series. I can't wait to see what Feehan has in plan for them.

Overall a story that exciting, keeps you on your toes, full of all the feels and will tug at your heartstrings!! BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN

Dark Legacy brings stunning world building, explosive chemistry and a new paranormal romance from the queen of paranormal romance’s, Christine Feehan.

Emeline Sanchez is caught up in circumstances beyond her control and hiding it from even her closest friends. She is being tortured by an evil vampire by corrupted blood.

An ancient Carpathian, Dragomir comes to her rescue but if Emeline accepts Dragomir she will be rescuing him in return.

This is one of the first paranormal romance series I’ve ever read and here we are 27 books in. We’ve come a long way from Carpathian Mountains to find the Lost Brotherhood and a new group of American leaders. I always enjoy installments in the Dark series. I

REVIEW: DARK LEGACY is the thirty –first installment in Christine Feehan’s DARK CARPATHIANS paranormal, romance series. This is ancient Carpathian warrior Dragomir Kozel, and Emeline Sanchez’s story line. DARK LEGACY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although there is an ongoing series arc that continues in Dark Legacy. Several of the characters from previous story lines play secondary and supporting roles including a number of Carpathian warriors, from a Carpathian monastery, who have yet to find their lifemates.

NOTE: DARK LEGACY contains scenarios and references to rape, sexual assault of women and children.

SOME BACKGROUND: All Carpathian males must find their lifemates before they turn vampire or greet the dawn. Without a lifemate, the males no longer see in color, feel pain or experience emotions. A lifemate is the light to their dark. She is the keeper of his heart and the keeper of his soul. As the unmated Carpathian male ages, the darkness begins to envelope his soul.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dragomir and Emeline) DARK LEGACY continues to focus on the search for a master vampire. Dragomir Kozel, a Carpathian warrior, has yet to find his lifemate, and like many of the ancients, he struggles with his lack of emotions, colors, and the pull of the dark side. Now that Tariq Asenguard (Dark Carousel) has found his lifemate, he has opened his home and his California compound to a number of homeless children and women, whose own psychic abilities have attracted the evil vampires-former Carpathian warriors-who have lost the battle with evil, or have given up finding the mate of their heart. Enter Emeline Sanchez, a young psychic woman whose recent capture and torture by Vadim Malinov has left our heroine struggling with the lure of dark side, and her belief that she is no longer pure for the Carpathian world. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Dragomir and Emeline, and the numerous battles between the Carpathian warriors, and two master vampires with hopes of destroying the Carpathian race.

Emeline Sanchez was brutally tortured and raped by Vadim Malinov. Now with Xavier’s parasites, and an even more prominent reminder of her recent ordeal, Emeline knows that she is a liability to the Carpathian males, and anyone who considers our heroine his mate. As a psychic female, Emeline is a potential mate for one of the Carpathian males but her dreamwalking, precognizant abilities push our heroine towards a warrior who figures prominently in her dreams. Dragomir Kozel knows the reluctant Emeline Sanchez is his lifemate-with his emotions and colors restored, Dragomir is determined to rid his lifemate of the painful parasites, and complete Emeline’s conversion before Vadim Malinov returns to finish the job. But there is something more about Emeline than anyone could have imagined; she hides several psychic abilities and a lingering reminder of Vadim’s cruel and methodical ways.

The relationship between Emeline and Dragomir is one of immediate attraction but Emeline is hesitant to trust another Carpathian male. Her experience with the vampire has left our heroine broken yet determined to protect the other children that Vadim took control. The limited $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the over the top, sexually graphic language and text but as per CF's style of writing they are very long and detailed.

There is a very large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the newly turned and very powerful Gary Daratrazanoff, Tariq and Charlotte, Maksim and Blaze, triplets Tomas, Lojos, and Matais, ancients Petru, Andor, Isai, Ferro, Sandu and Benedek, as well as the orphaned children found in Vadim’s underground lair-Danny, Amelia, Lourdes, Bella and Liv, and their nanny Genevieve Marten. The requisite evil has many faces including the return of both Vadim and Sergey Malinov.

DARK LEGACY is a graphically violent story line with fight scenes reminiscent of Dark Demon and Dark Slayer, and the familiarity of Xavier’s experiments, imprisonment and torture; there is plenty of action that, at times, got bogged down with too many characters. The Carpathian race remains at war with the Malinov brothers but a war that has intensified with the possibility of another Malinov heir. With the ‘reemergence’ of Xavier a few stories back, his ‘triplet’ lineage continues with the appearance of another mage who may or may not be a lifemate to one of the ancient warriors. The premise is entertaining but familiar; the characters and romance are similar to many of the previous story line couples. Christine Feehan’s DARK LEGACY continues the author’s escape into the supernatural world of the Carpathian male and the woman that will save his soul.

Danger, intrigue and destined love….

This outing was a wild whirlwind of passion, destiny, hard-won battles and… surprises. I would expect by the twenty-seventh book in any series that surprises would be in short supply. Luckily, that wasn’t the case as Emeline and Dragomir’s story proved to be a unique treat while providing all the elements that make this Dark series one of my favourites.

I felt so much for Emeline’s character. She had never had people of her own yet suddenly she found herself in the worst situations of her life but surrounded by loving friends and family. She and the children were safe but nothing is static in this fantastical world of paranormal vampires and dragons, of magic and mage. The threats against them and the entire clan of Carpathians never goes away and this time the evil is everywhere. Dragomir is a Carpathian hunter and while he has his sights on Emeline, danger is always close at hand. Even as they begin their lifemate dance, there is rarely a moment of peace. Emeline has so many reasons to rail against her fate – both the bad and the good – that it is easy to understand her hesitance and fear. Interrupted only by non-stop action, their courtship feels like a trial by fire at times, with so many things ready to derail it. Their bond is strong – at times sweet, sometimes wickedly passionate - but it was not a given that it would be strong enough…

“Feel what I do when you’re holding me. Safe. Cherished.”

At times romantic, and others a bloody battle to the death, the characters and the story kept me wondering the whole time. Surprises around every corner – including a sexy, cloud-drenched scene like no other – I lost myself once again in a world I can’t get enough of! -Diane, 4.5 stars

I'm loving that the author is continuing to follow the arc that involves the Ancients that were encouraged to leave their monestry and take a chance on finding lifemates in the modern world. Plus with all the recent upheaval in California there are several Carpathians in and around the home that Tariq has made. It's getting pretty crowded as recently the Carpathians have been helping to rescue several victims of Vampires and one of them is Emeline. Emeline knows how tough life on the streets can be but she never knew true pain until held captive, tormented and brutalised by the Vampire Vadim. Now she's trying desperately to avoid the Ancient Dragomir as she's had disturbing dreams about him but she has an even bigger secret and it's one that she really can't hide for much longer. As Vadim gets closer and grows more bold Emeline will need to trust someone but can she really put those she cares for in danger?
This series is always full of males who think their women need protecting and it's fun seeing all that arrogance and their old fashioned ideas being trashed in this story. Dragomir is full of himself and truly believes he is this too dangerous to be close to kind of guy. I absolutely loved the way he was teased by fellow Ancient Sandu and honestly it was high time for some levity amongst these all too hardened warrior types. Plus although there is still chanting ( which previously has been excessive) it was definitely on the back burner and to enhance all that was going on.
Yes there are battles because hey it's good versus evil but wow the author really amped up the danger here and all I can say is aquatic life will never be viewed by this reader quite the same way again! Vadim might not exactly be a Mage but together with his brother he's one who clearly isn't afraid to use dark magic which puts all those protected by Tariq probably more at risk than ever before . Luckily though there's someone powerful around to lend a healing hand but to find out just who has returned you really need to read this book because it's starting to look like the Carpathian's are branching out!
This is essentially a romance so yes it gets very steamy and Dragomir takes direction very well! Oh who am I kidding? Emeline might have suffered unbearably but she's made for her lifemate so obviously wants to experience everything he can give her although if honest Dragomir gets an idea and runs with it! I really did like that Dragomir handled the truth about Emelines incarceration without a blink, he never stuttered or made her feel at fault in any way. Whilst Emeline herself felt so very unclean and downright dirty Dragomir said and did everything right and isn't that what we expect from a hero? Perhaps this right here is why I rate this a four as it just seemed that after all that abuse and pain no normal woman would be 'up for it' that soon. Although nobody ever said these characters are normal!
So an enjoyable read and I genuinely am happy that there still seems to be more to write about these Carpathians but I just thought it ended quite abruptly. Still with both old and even new characters here I'm hoping it won't be too long until we find out what will happen next.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Here we go again...........I've skipped a few books in the Carpathian series. They were getting too silly even for me and that's sayin' something. I should just stick a fork in this series because it's done. I know I should move on but I keep coming back for more. I always have hope that CF will return to the roots of the series and come out with a great Carpathian romance.

I did not like that Emeline had been raped and impregnated by Vadim. C'mon Christine Feehan you didn't have to go there to create a story. Some might argue that it wasn't a physical rape since Vadim used his magic to impregnate Emeline. Nope, still rape and still has no place in a book marketed as a romance.

I understand Emeline had a tough life and you'd think she must be a hell of a woman to endure all the trauma. Really though she's a glutton for punishment and is more than ready to continue her own suffering to 'save' everyone else. On top of that she was very insecure and needed near constant coddling and reassurance that she was Dragomir's lifemate and he wanted her. In typical stupid heroine fashion she doesn't reveal all the info she has until the compound has been attacked a few times. Why would any badass Carpathian hunter want a woman like that?

The silliness of all the strange magic that makes absolutely no sense and the shards of Xavier / Vadim were back. I had to re-read portions of the book and still the magic made no sense.

<<<< The following is an excerpt from my review of Dark Carousel (Dark, #26) by Christine Feehan . The same applies to Dark Legacy (Dark, #27) by Christine Feehan >>>>

I think CF might be drunk or high when she writes these books.

I always loved the Carpathians. It was one of the first PNR series I read that pulled me into reading romance. I must be a closet optimist because I keep hoping that each new book will be more like they were in the beginning. I wish she'd back off on all the magic crap and stop writing about 'worm like' shards for pages and pages. What is it with CF and bugs? This book had so much potential for a good romance and she ruined it by speeding the relationship along in favor of fantasy.

CF needs to make a decision about this series. She either needs to end it or get back to the basics and start writing romance. At the very least her publisher needs to stop marketing these books as romances.

<<<< end excerpt >>>>

The book didn't have a HEA. It just stopped. Lots of unresolved issues. Without a doubt the current story arc will continue.

An easy 5 star read.
I savored this book through my train journey from Kerala to Delhi. So many amazing places and scenery.
Almost a match made in heaven.

I already knew the heroine was violated by a vampire from a previous book so I was totally anticipating a dark chapter about it. But thankfully it was just heroine retelling her ordeal to hero.

The vampires has become more vicious and cunning and a group of bewildered carpathian ancients are trying to outsmart them and at the same time hunting and destroying them.
Dear god that is one tough job!
The recent books from this series is like reading about the next generation. Instead of princes Mikhail Dubrinksy we have Tariq Asengaurd. He is the leader for carpthians in modern world because he is very much comfortable with humans and modern technology. And the hilarious part was the only person who is completely unaware of this is Tariq himself. Mikhail slyly sends Gary Daratrazanoff as his second in command. Which tips him off. I loved that scene. Especially when another ancient Sandu stopped healing because he was afraid he will become the next healer in the group and they will protect and forbid him from hunting like Tariq.
The ancients were so funny without any intention.
And our hero was one of a kind. Heroine Emeline went through so much that I was so glad they found each other and happiness.
Malinovs.. now thats one hell of a villains. My heart went out for the recovered carpathian woman. I really wanted her story next but have a feeling I’ll have to wait a few years for that. I enjoyed somany things that happened in this book. Waiting eagerly for more in this series.

Dark Legacy is a continuation of the story of the Ancients that began at the end of Dark Promise, where we saw the ancients being pointed in the direction needed to find their life mates.
The more I read of the Ancients the more I am liking this new direction. I definitely recommend this story as one to read.

Centuries ago and group of men were sent out by their Prince to protect their people. These men had honor, integrity, and in most cases sheer bullheadedness to keep them from sucumbering to the dark side of their nature, while hoping, beyond hope to find the one who would be the other half of their soul and bring the light back to their lives.

For centuries they have battled the undead, preying on their people. As the darkness in them continued to grow they banded together to support and help each other find the strength they needed to carry on with their mission.

Now is their time, the time of the Acients to come back into the fold as each finds the one who makes them complete. As these battle hardened warriors struggle to assimilate to the changing times, new bonds are formed and strengthend, new challenges are met and overcome

The ancients must learn to embrace the new technology and as this occurs it is funny, heartwarming, and sometimes down right hysterical.A new leader emerges, his 2nd is found to be one we have known for years. A lost treasure is found, a family will be reunited.

Emeline, once a child of the streets now has a home and family but the dark secret she hides will put all in danger. As she has made her decision to move on rather than endanger her new found family she finds the one who can save her but is she strong enough to stand by him.

Dragomir feels the darkness more each day, he interacts only with those he trusts until that day when he hears her voice and the unthinkable happens, just when he thought there was no hope, his world again has light, color, emotions but is he able to be the mate to this remarkable woman? Can he be both protector and mate? Can he assimilate to having a modern woman by his side and learn to work as a partner rather than simply protector?

A great read which kept me wake longer than I should have been:)

Dark Legacy is actually book 31 of the Dark Series and continues where we left off from Dark Carousel with Emeline sacrificing herself to the big bad dark Drag for a relationship she isn't so thrilled to be in despite being a victim puts herself back in that place for her own good and the good of the others.

We continue the new mix up that the bad guys aren't really bad guys anymore and that the real bad guys are evil or assumed to be evil must be conquered through love which is brought in by the women who don't actually do a whole lot or serve much of a purpose other than to empower the men who don't really fight anymore.

There's a lot of old dogs learning new tricks, men waiting for their child brides to grow up so that they can mate with them and be whole, crazy cameos, and some ackward not so thrilling circumstances that put it all in motion. Whats the most obvious is that despite this series being so long in installments Feehan obviously doesn't plan on stopping any time soon. This book spends a lot of time building up connecting her worlds and expanding them for more future series and installments but over all it was an okay read.

Warning: Dark Legacy contains continued topics of forced sexual interactions/ rape / dominance of women and children.

This was a very good story and addition to the series. I liked both Emeline & Dragomir very much and was happy with their story.

Emeline is a woman with psychic abilities, one of which is prophetic dreams. She grew up and is BFFs with Blaze (the heroine from book # 23.5, Dark Crime). Emeline was captured by some vampires while she and Blaze were trying to save some young children. Emeline went through hell and came out of it with issues but she felt so tainted that she refused to let anyone near her most of the time, even to help.

Dragomir is an ancient in the race of Carpathians. Carpathians are born vampires with other abilities like shape shifting (to any form, even mist), magic spells and psychic powers. The males of the Carpathians have a darkness in them and if they don't find their lifemates, they can lose their souls and become evil. Dragomir used to live in a hidden monastery that's filled with ancient Carpathians that are too far gone to hunt the vampires any more but don't wish to meet the dawn. Renewed hope of finding his lifemate prompted Dragomir to reemerge back into the world.

Dragomir was in the area and got called in to help when a master vampire started threatening the local hunters, their lifemates and some children the Carpathians had saved. The compound everyone is staying on should be safe but the master vampire is being much more tenacious then normal, insisting on sticking around and continuing to cause trouble with his minions rather than tuck tail and run as is normal for their kind. Emeline was given a house to use on the compound and stays there all the time, refusing to see just about everyone except the children she helped rescue. Emeline has seen Dragomir in some of her dreams but she sees what she believes is his death while trying to save her so she tries to avoid his notice.

When Dragomir does finally meet Emeline, it's in the middle of an attack and his sudden return of emotions and colors certainly hinders his normal fighting abilities (at least for a bit). Regardless, Dragomir is able to hold off the attack with some help and ends up finding his lifemate in Emeline. Unfortunately, the vampire that tainted Emeline can talk to her in her head and she's been under constant emotional abuse for weeks (as well as physical pain) and because of her state of mind, she doesn't believe Dragomir when he tells her that she's his lifemate. Emeline did have reasons to fear being completely open about what was done to her but Dragomir is completely supportive and does whatever is needed to keep her happy while convincing her that they're lifemates...which does eventually happen. Dragomis makes sure she has the home and acceptance she needs while taking out threats to their well-being and the story ends with Dragomir and Emeline happily starting a HEA (with a bit of a head start).

This was a very enjoyable story. Emeline went through hell for a few weeks and I could understand what drove her to that place, so while I found her doubts in Dragomir a bit annoying, I could understand how she got there. Once she was free of the vampire taint and was doing better under Dragomir's care, I liked her very much. Dargomir was a really good hero...sweet and supportive while still being badass. Overall, the story was very good and kept me engaged throughout so I'd recommend the story/series. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.

Dragomir is always looking out for his woman, "he paused at the door and turned back to her. “Before you go outside, sívamet, you might want to add undergarments. Personally, I like you without panties and a bra, but I’m not so certain you will be as thrilled when someone else notices.” I liked this book, it was an okay read, other books in the series were a bit more enjoyable than this one. I'm not completely sure why I wasn't in love with the book, all I know is that it was an okay read.

** spoiler alert ** Dark Legacy could have been one of Christine Feehan's all time great stories in her Dark Series. I debated back and fourth weather to give it 3 or 4 stars. I gave it 4 stars because I absolutely loved Dragomir . Having Gary there as a supporting character was icing on the Cake for me. These two characters along with all the Ancients did not disappoint. We get better acquainted with the Ancient Carpathians that came from the Monastery in the Carpathian mountains. I look forward to each of there stories.

Dark Legacy starts off with a Bang and ends in a Big Surprise. There is lots of action and the story is fast moving. These Ancient Warriors and even the Human Guards did not falter under the constant attacks by Vadim and Sergey Malinov. Ancient Master Vampires with Slivers of Xavier the great evil Mage in them. Thaey were great Villains as villains go. These Evil Master Ancient Vampires were all we have come to expect while reading these 30 books and novellas of the Dark series. As far as evil goes they did not disappoint. But the Ancient Carpathians far exceeded my expectations. The battles were so well written and choreographed. I felt like I was there cringing and terrified.

SPOILERS!!
My great disappointment was what I had feared after reading Dark Carousel. The heroine of this story Emeline Sanchez has been tortured and viscously Raped by Vadim. The worst part was the descriptive details of what Emeline and the young girl Amelia endured from Vadim and his vampire underlings. But it is even worst then that for poor Emeline. Vadim impregnates her. I almost stop reading the story after that. That is a bridge to far for me. I hate reading about Rape to women and I don't see how this adds to a story. Especially her having Vadims baby. Why couldn't it been Dragomirs child since she was his LifeMate? This was Disgusting and Vile. No matter how many Carpathian blood transfusions using Dragomir's blood does not change the fact that this baby is Vadim's. Why Christine keeps trying to make us believe that this will be Dragomir's child because she has is blood doesn't change the fact that she is Vadims child DNA is DNA. Complete Blood transfusion don't change that. This part of the story was horrible I have had a complete blood transfusion because I had extensive internal Bleeding. This didn't change my DNA. I really wish that Emeline had not been Raped and Impregnated. It brought a terrific story down too a big disappointment. A bad feeling I never could get over while reading the story. I also, felt sorry for Dragomir and felt he deserved a LifeMate without carrying the most Evil Vampires child in the Carpathian world. I felt bad for Dragomir and Emeline. After all he has waited thousands of years for his Lifemate and he should have been given a pristine sort of women. The Rape and the forced impregnation was just to much!! In future we will have to deal with Amelia the young 14 year old who Vadim raped also, but she was to young to impregnate. I don't think I will read Amelia's story. I really hope it never come up.

Emeline was bitten by one of the evil vampires while trying to save a few innocent children. She was forced to exchange blood with the evil vampire and now she's in a lot of pain. While the Carpathians and children she saved are trying to help her, she thinks she has to leave to keep everyone safe from the evil vampire who's in her head, talking to her. That is until she meets one Carpathian male sets her heart on fire for him. As she tries to heal from her harrowing ordeal, there's only one person she really wants to be around and it surprises them both. Emeline has been having dreams about him and she thinks if she can just stay away from him, her dreams won't come true.

Dragomir is an ancient Carpathian male. When the evil vampire finds a way into the compound they are all staying at, he has to rise early to save the humans who are awake and the Carpathians who are still sleeping in the earth. A huge fight ensues and Dragomir finds his lifemate during the battle.

Emeline has been carrying around a huge secret since she had been held captive by Vadim. She thought that the Carpathians would want nothing to do with her and throw her out when they found out but she was wrong. She's an extremely strong woman with very strong gifts that she hid from everyone. But now that all the secrets are out, she's gonna have to trust her friends as well as ancient Carpathians that frighten her in order to get through this next stage of life.

There's a traitor among them but they're surprised when they find out who it is and how Vadim is controlling this person. So while Dragomir and Emeline are getting to know one another, there's also an ongoing fight with Vadim and his underlings.

One of the teenage kids that had been held captive by Vadim also kept a secret of what all the evil vampire had done to her when he had her. But the secret has to come out in order for her to heal and move on. There are a few twists in this story and it was one of the most emotional and heart-wrenching stories in this series The things that Emeline and these kids went through is horrifying and it was hard to read in some parts.

But this book starts off with action right after the beginning of the story and the action, drama, romance, and twists were enough to keep me so engaged in this story that I read it from front to back in 3 hours. I read fast but reading this big book in just 3 hours was fast even for me. I believe this is book 31 in this series which means I've been reading this series for a very long time and I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best books in the series.

Dark Legacy by Christine Feehan is the 31st book in her Dark (Carpathian) series. In Dark Legacy, so much happens to keep us glued to our seats, and unable to put the book down. The exciting storyline plots; the return of the evil Malinovs; a strong wonderful heroine and a hero who not only worshipped his lifemate, but treated her like a queen from the start; not like the abusive male heroes we had to endure in many of the later Dark books. I loved Dark Legacy.

Emeline Sanchez was one of the people rescued in Dark Carousel and staying at the home of Tariq Assenguard. Emeline has a secret that she hides from her friends and those staying at Tariq’s mansion. When she was in captivity by the Malinovs, Emeline suffered many horrific disturbing things by Vadim Malinov, and he now has the ability to talk to her telepathically, threatening her to return to him. Emeline has her own psychic powers, which enable her to be able counteract his demands, but he is still able to hurt her with enormous pain.

Dragomir, our hero, is one of the Monastry Carpathians that is helping to protect Tariq’s family (including Emeline, and the children rescued in the previous book), and home. He avoids talking to anyone, concentrating only protecting everyone. When Vadim sends in his creatures to attack everyone, Dragomir goes into action, and runs to save Emeline from the evil master vampire. At that moment, everything changes for Dragomir, as his world opens up with color and he knows that Emeline is truly his lifemate.

What follows is a wonderful story, where Darogmir , his ancients from the Monastery & Tariq’s people must find a way to protect Emeline, the children, and the entire Asenguard home from the massive attacks by the Malinovs . I also loved seeing how strong Gary has become, as well as meeting so many new ancients. It was nice to spend time with Tariq, Charlotte, Genevieve and the children we got to know in Dark Carousel. It was amazing to watch Gary, Dragomir, the ancients together, not once but a few times to remove Vadim’s splinters in Emeline, and some of the children. Dark Legacy was nonstop action all the way through and written so well by Feehan.

Though Christine’s stories continue to have a lot of sexual content (erotic), the storyline and the couple remained in the forefront. Dark Legacy was a fantastic exciting pulse pounding story, with a wonderful couple we rooted for from the beginning. With the Malinov’s still around, I can’t wait to see where Christine will be taking us in the next book

This addition to the series carried on with the ongoing story of the rescued children and their caregivers. The romance was of course, hot – and the threatening danger started on page one. All that said, it was not a favorite Carpathian novel of mine, other than it moved the story along. It seemed to have a lot of the same things happening over and over. Different people, but repetitive actions that became boring. Dragomir and Emeline were nothing memorable either. I had hoped for something new to keep the Carpathian world exciting. I did enjoy it, just not near as much as the earlier ones.

It's been awhile since I visited the Carpathian world of the Dark series, and I really enjoyed my time back in there! New characters and a new setting, with a hint of old (ahhh, the line from Gregori, brings back memories... ) Enjoyable.

WOW!!!!!

This book was well worth the wait. To be able to see Emeline get her happy ever after is great. This was a great read and it moved along nicely. I was also able to see where some next stories may come from. I still can't wait to see Gary's story. Makes me wonder when he states that his lifemate is is an baby? Who could it be.

I have read a lot of Christine's books and this is by far one of my favorites. The story is about Emeline who battled the master vampire to save the children and now she is in the safety of the compound he still haunts her in her dreams. There is also another man there and she feels the need to change the dream to make sure he stays safe so when she meets Dragomir she realizes she knows him from her dreams.
When Dragomir meets Emeline he knows she is his lifemate but he will have a hard time convincing her because Emeline is from the streets and doesn't think she is worthy. Dragomir his to save Emeline as the master vampire is still after her and seems to always be one step ahead of them which means there is a spy in the compound.
As Dragomir and Emeline explore their new relationship they have to battle danger from inside and outside. I loved how the relationship grew and the things they both learned about each other.
