Fallen #1

Surrender to Sin

Rate this book
To save her, he must ruin her.

Lord Sebastian St. John, dedicated bachelor and a co-owner of Fallen, the most scandalous pleasure club in London, is known as Sin for good reason. Orphaned by a shocking accident, Sin long ago vowed a life of solitude and decadence. Yet when Lady Grace Carrington begs for his help destroying her reputation, Sin can't turn the ton's most proper lady away.

Obedient daughter, wife, and young widow, Grace has had enough of being controlled. After her father arranges a second loveless marriage to an eminently respectable ancient, Grace plans a fortnight of defiance and self-ruination to stop the wedding. But as Grace enters the heady, risky world of an affair with Sin, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him— and she soon realizes two weeks won't be nearly enough.

Fun fact: the Fallen pleasure club is inspired by three real-life Regency-era clubs in London. The White House in Soho Square (madam Theresa Berkley specialized in flagellation, birching, caning etc); The Nunneries in King's Place (madam Catherine Windsor, very exclusive and a favorite of royals, MPs, diplomats, and peers); and Miss Fawkland's Temples in St. James's St.

This was my first Nicola Davidson book, but it definitely won't be my last! Grace is a widow and thought she was free to live her life, but she learns she is going to be married off to a vile man. To get out of this engagement, Grace decides to be ruined by the most notorious Rake in London. Sebastian St John, who is also called Sin. Sin owns a pleasure club and Grace finds herself propositioning Sin and attending his club. This book was steamy and short, but it also packed a punch with the emotions. I loved how Sin just couldn't say no to Grace and quickly found himself falling for her. I'm excited to read the next book!

Surrender to Sin is the first in the Fallen series, centered around a regency era pleasure club where any and all sexual pleasures are to be had. One of the proprietors is Sebastian St. John, or Sin for short, who has a reputation for being quite the ladies man. It’s for this reason that Grace seeks him out. Having endured a loveless marriage and ended up a widow, she’s shocked to discover her minister father has bequeathed her hand in marriage yet again, this time to an old reprobate even worse than the first. Instead of being able to indulge in a widow’s freedom, she’ll be trapped once again. But if anyone can damage her reputation and make her unmarriageable, it’s Sin. Asking for his help for some mild public ruination is her initial goal, but she soon discovers that she wants more – and Sin is happy to oblige. Can their fake relationship rescue her from one marriage and give her the chance at something even better?

What a scintillating sexy novella! I loved the idea behind this story, of Grace being willing to court public scandal to rescue herself from another loveless marriage. She understands that she’ll never be free of her father’s influence and his choices for her life if she doesn’t do something drastic and there can’t be anything more scandalous than approaching the owner of a sex club to appear with her. But Grace finds herself attracted to Sin too, and when she confesses to him that her marriage bed was cold and painful, Sin is determined to show her that there is much better out there. They share some very steamy scenes together, including some scenes in the club that involve another woman. Sin wants to give Grace anything she desires, and all their play is consensual.

Sin might be one of the owners of a sex club but he’s also keenly aware of the injustices that many of the women on the streets have to contend with. He’s got a bit of a savior complex, doing his best to get prostitutes off the streets and giving them jobs at his club as waitresses. While they can participate in the club shenanigans if they choose, they aren’t forced into anything, unlike with their pimps and many women come to him for help. Though Grace is quite different, being a highborn lady, his desire to save her from an unwanted marriage, especially to a man whom he abhors, means he’s willing to do anything she needs. That he finds himself falling in love with her is a surprise, but her innocence in enchanting, as is the wicked wanton hiding beneath the surface. We get a delightful happy ending for this couple, though not without a little action to spur the story to its conclusion. There are some secondary characters introduced in the story, friends and co-workers of Sin’s at the Fallen club who I hope to see in future stories. Surrender to Sin is a sensual delight.

'Surrender to Sin' by Nicola Davidson is book is the first in the "Fallen" series. This is the story of Lord Sebastian St. John "SIN" and Lady Grace Carrington. This is a Novella with about 107 pages.

Now she is a widow and thought her father would not try to marry her off again but he has arranged for anther older man to marry her. This man being worst than her husband. Grace decides that the only way to stop this marriage and any others would be to ruin herself. Grace decided to go meet Sin who runs a Gentlemen club and has a bad history. This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.

This will be a bit of a quickie review as this is a novella and I normally don’t do full reviews for novellas. I was eager to step into this one, as I just saw it on Hoopla and yes this was the case where I fell so hard for the cover. Because dang that cover is SO well done. Even though historical erotic romance isn’t something I always gravitate towards especially in audiobook form, I have to say that I was highly impressed by this one. There were so many aspects to “Surrender to Sin” that won me so quickly. I couldn’t get enough of this one, to be honest. I just wanted to delve into the other two books in the series and even though I loved the narrator, I think I will stick with the ebooks. I loved this one so much that book two is on my list for this week of reading. I was so impressed with how balanced the heat was with emotional intimacy. There were so many feelings that packed in with this story that won me so completely. Now I do want to point out there is plenty of HEAT, so maybe not read this in public, and it does have one scene that is F/F/M. I was so intrigued by the plot that builds within the story, as it had depth and intricate layers to it. What brings this couple together is not conventional but so different from most regency/victorian sets ups and I loved that it wasn’t a typical Duke/Wallflower setup. There is a beauty in how this author writes that I found compelling and poignant in ways I didn’t expect. Also I really was drawn into the setting that this author captivates on, I really felt the historical setup she writes in and some vivid descriptions. If you want to explore the erotic historical romance genre a bit more, I highly recommend this story for you. And it’s only .99 Cents on Amazon currently.

The beginning of this book was perfect . I had my strong heroine that I wished for who is not just fierce and know how to defend herself but also, she actually express her wants and needs, so I thought I would love the book, but I didn't.

Sebastian is what I want in a hero, passionate, loving, and definitely not an asshole like most of the stupids irredeemable heroes that I have been seeing around lately.

The book is fast-paced. It's steamy, hot, enjoyable and can make you smile. I was definitely hooked from the first page bc I was so damned angry for Grace and I wanted to punch her father in the face. So, I continued reading and guess what, before I reached 50% I knew this wasn't going to end will, and I was right, I hated what happened before the end. I needed this book to be about only the couple, their love, their intimacy, their emotions but it wasn't.

That is why I'm giving it 2 Stars. Hopefully the hero in next book won't do something stupid like Sebastian did.

So much fun! Grace is a widow who is supposed to be wed again to a vile man. She concocts a plan to be ruined by one of the most notoriously known rakes around named Sebastian (aka Sin). As an added bonus, he is part owner of a Pleasure Club called Fallen. Enjoyed the characters and enjoyed this version of Historical Romance I haven't seen yet.

Sexy and sweet! Surrender to Sin was a short, but very spicy and enjoyable read. Sebastian and Grace connected from the start, and the attraction they felt toward each other leapt off the pages and had me anticipating the first time they kissed, touch, made love. Ms. Davidson writers erotic very well and I was not let down at all in how their smexy times developed. The characters were also interesting, and I was quite invested in Grace and Sin finding their happy every after. I recommend.
Warning: This is a very spicy and delicious read.

I really didn't like the story, the characters or the writing. She asked him to ruin her, but for me the tropes ruined the story. I couldn't finish.

Utterly delicious!
Reading 'Surrender to Sin' was like diving into a bowl of rich chocolate trifle, and finding an unexpected layer of rum-soaked cherries beneath the cream.

🔥 Great characterisation - I was invested in the happiness of Lord Sebastian St. John and Lady Grace Carrington remarkably quickly. I'm hard to please. This hardly ever happens.

🔥 Off the charts smexiness - and I love the humour. Erotic lusciousness plus giggles is a winning recipe for me.

🔥 A dastardly villain in Lord Baxter - boo hiss! He was marvellously grim. A perfect foil to our hero.

🔥 A pirate fantasy room! Genius!

Can't wait to get my mitts on volumes 2 and 3 of the Fallen series. I'm hooked.

I wrote out an entire review for this and then my internet went out and didn't save it so... I'm not spending the time to write it out again.

This book was bad. I picked it up because I thought it would be similar to The Scandalous Diary of Lily Layton, and it was not. While they were both short erotic novels, that's where the similarities end. TSD was well written, well paced, well plotted... this book was ridiculous and abandoned writing and plot for the sake of titillating sex scenes.

The writing was bad. There was no character or plot development. The non-sex plot throughout the book seemed to be an afterthought sprinkled in as an update between scenes. The resolution was fast and ridiculous.

What's really fun about Davidson's novel is the exploration of lesser known historical happenings that break the mold of historical romance. There were 19th century social clubs that catered to sexual exploration. There were bisexual people!

I hear this author getting bad reviews or snark online because her novels don't follow many genre conventions for regency historical romance. I think that's nonsense, and my favorite thing about this book was how the heroine learned about herself and grew as a person through sexual and romantic exploits beyond the hetero monogamous typical narrative. That makes for good erotic romance!

This is an erotic historical romance. Ms. Davidson writes sex very well. Those scenes were hot, steamy, lush, and just just wow! *still fanning myself!* She also has a talent of interjecting humor and I was amused a few times. A very quick and sexy read that I just finished for the second time.

This is my first Nicola Davison book and hell yes I will be reading all her books from now on.

THIS BOOK DESERVES 5 FILTHY GLITTERY STARS

I JUST LOVE EVERY BIT OF THIS BOOK.

The story revolves around Grace Carrington, a widow (to an arranged marriage) and she is about to be married off to another older man of her father’s choosing. In order to escape the horrid arrangement, she went to the Fallen, a pleasure club, owned by Sebastian St.John “SIN”.

She asked him for help to ruin her reputation so that the engagement can be called off.

I LOVE SEBASTIAN SO FREAKING MUCH. The way the author describes him is all dark and masculine, so bold and powerful, wicked and mischievous, commands power wherever he goes but with a sense of humor and charming too. He is sin personified but with a whole lot of gentleness. No kidding, I would find him first if I ever got into a deadass trouble.

What I like about him is that, despite him running a pleasure club, he is aware of the injustice pressuring the women around him. He rescues those women who are being unfairly treated, hires them to work at his club, and he gives each other every freedom in the club. And the way he interacts with the hired women, the jokes and teasing they exchange shows how much he has nothing against their differences in class. What a perfect man PLEASE

The development between Grace and Sebastian is so freaking wholesome. Despite this book being a short read, their progress is satisfying. Grace came knocking on his door, requesting him to assist on her ‘ruination’ and he indulged her request, with much charm and attentiveness. It started with just a deal to be fake-lovers in public, stirring a scandal for the sake of breaking off the engagement but everything went the other way around when Sebastian found out who’s Grace is arranged too.

The way he went from wanting to be involved purely on pleasure with Grace, teaching her things to feeling like the hours without her are just empty and nothing. Suddenly the two week arrangement feels too short, and both of them want more than just this illicit affair. OH GOD THERE IS SO MUCH CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THEM. SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION AND SO MUCH PULL. WHENEVER THEY ARE TOGETHER, THE AIR FEELS LIKE ELECTRICITY AND THEY WERE NOT UNABASHED ABOUT THEIR ATTRACTION. LIKE THAT IS SO SEXY PLS.

Their chemistry is so sensual, sexy, and just so right.

The plot was so carefully constructed, and everything was done so rightfully despite the short length of the book. Everything was SO GOOD.

The ending was so wholesome. The way Sebastian went all apeshit when something happened to Grace. He was ready to turn the world upside down and murder whoever that lays a finger on her. THAT WAS SO SEXY PLEASE. SO PROTECTIVE. I WANT ONE OF HIM PLS.

Also, he has a way with words. The way he speaks is dangerously charming and seductive too. Like dirty talking but make it chivalrous. Good god.

This book is SO GOOD. I am so invested with Devil and Vice. Cant wait to read their books next!

Trigger warnings: young girls being married off to creepy old dudes, kidnapping, threats of sexual violence.

I picked this up on a whim on Scribd and while it wasn't great, it also wasn't terrible and I actually really liked the concept of the story. I just felt like everything was far too rushed and I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the story had been, like, a hundred pages longer rather than being a novella. Because it just felt like the smut went from zero to one thousand in the space of like 50 pages and, uh, it was a lot considering they'd known each other for like three days. You know?

What a fun read!!

Grace is a young widow whose first marriage was arranged by her father. She is shocked when her father wants her to marry another gross old man after her morning period ends. She comes up with a plan to get utterly publicly ruined by renowned rake Sebastian, also known as Sin. And man do these two have a whole lotta fun together 😉

This was an entertaining hot read! I really liked both of these characters and how they learned and explored each other.

Read for the novellathon.

A short but very steamy story (🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥) of a Victorian sex club. Good story, lots of action and angst, and a nasty villain.
Bought both of the other books in the series as soon as I finished this book.

I mean, this isn't good. this is really meh.
The plot is convoluted and utterly ridiculous and kinda pointless. The Sex scenes are fine, but oh my gawd whole "way to save her" plot makes no sense when there are easier options, had this on audio for bedtime reading to fall asleep. Actually was gonna give it two stars, but fuck it. the way it went down in the end was just too stupid and made no sense since she has a great opportunity to escape the marriage right in front of her by the end, and they could have done that instead of the ridiculous "performance" scene that serves no purpose other than being a spicy sex scene (which it is, and the lady in this book is bisexual which is also yey. but it's still too stupid when there is an easier and safer answer)

This was kinda catered specifically to me??? A woman in search of a sexual adventure, a reckless gentleman, some pirates? I cannot say it was particularly brilliant, but I truly enjoyed the novella and was wishing the main couple all the very best. The pacing was skilfully done, it was just the right amount of action and feelings, a tad bit of tension when you are guessing whether they will be together in the end or not, but it was not overdone and there was no miscommunication to piss me off. I was not even angered by the breeding kink at the very end as it was logical and I saw it coming from very afar, so I allow it – and it says a lot!

Looking forward to the next instalments, a little bit disappointed not to see my man Diaz among the love interests, I am intrigued by his love story and I want him to be happy. Hopefully I will at least get glimpses of him in the next two books!

3 - 3.5 stars!

This is the first book in the Fallen series and features Lord Sebastian St. John (Sin) and Lady Carrington (Grace). Surrender to Sin is a short and spicy read and I wish it had been much longer because it had the potential to be a fantastic story with characters and a plot line that were developed properly. However, this was mostly just a very erotic historical story. So...

description

Sin is the co-owner of Fallen, a pleasure club in London and is notorious for his rakish ways. Grace is a widowed young woman of the ton who has just learned she is to be married off again to a horrendous man and decides to try and take her fate into her own hands and change it. Grace goes to Sin and asks him to help destroy her reputation so that she is no longer marriage material and can live out her days for herself. Sin can't say no to helping the damsel in distress and agrees to assist her in her endeavor. But what was supposed to be a quick and simple ruination task turns into a fiery passion that neither expected. Can Sin and Grace find a way to be together? What will happen with Grace's future after she is ruined?

I liked both Sin and Grace. They were great characters and there wasn't really anything in here that I didn't like. It was just an average read in my opinion. Although the whole scene at the end was a little out there for me.

description

But this was an erotic novel so I can't expect anything less I guess. Overall, if you like historical romance with a heavy dose of erotica then I would suggest grabbing this little short read up.

Lady Grace Carrington yg sudah menjanda, kaget ketika mengetahui dirinya ditunangkan paksa dgn Lord Baxter. Krn tidak sudi, Grace mencari gagasan supaya pernikahan yg sdh direncanakan tsb batal. Grace berusaha merusak dirinya dgn membuat skandal bersama Sebastian St John alias Sin. (Sampai sini mirip dgn kisah Because You're Mine by Lisa Kleypas Because You're Mine - Karena Kau Milikku by Lisa Kleypas ).

Surrender to Sin was a deliciously sinful story about Lady Grace Carrington, sold off to the highest bidder (Lord Carrington) who was much older, not interested in his wife's pleasure, he did what had to be done but never got an heir before he died. She had to move back home with her father and he has decided to sell her off again...to an old, icky, mean man. So she comes up with a foolproof plan to ruin herself with Sin.
Sebastian St. John is a sucker for helping the ladies. Of course, Grace is one woman he'd love nothing more than to devour....all with her permission.
This was a wonderfully well written shorter story. The characters were so fun, sexy and well thought out that I've added the rest of the Fallen series to my TBR.
This is historical...but I love to add a sexy, steamy historical in between all the dark and dangerous reads. Gotta mix things up once in a while.
This one's got the sexy, great characters, and a bit of suspense...
Fallen is a masked sex club in London where anything goes. Owned by 3 best friends...Can't wait for the remaining stories in this series.

Surrender To Sin by Nicola Davidson is fabulous! I totally love Grace and Sin's story. Grace is trying to avoid a marriage that will make her miserable. With Sin's help she hopes to damage her reputation enough to escape marriage. The pages sizzle as Ms Davidson weaves an awesome tale of drama, action, humor and sexy bits. This book is well written, fast paced and a joy to read. It is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Nicola Davidson in the future. Surrender To Sin is part of the Fallen Series, but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed this ARC I received from IndieSage*

I looooved this! It was fast, entertaining, hot and I couldn't stop giggling and laughing. I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between Sin and Grace, and in all honestly this is one of my favorites right now. I just loved how light and playful this author wrote the story. Loved the writing style, the humor, the drama and I'm seriously digging Fallen right now. Sounds like a place to have loads of fun, especially with owners named Sin, Vice and Devil. Like, come on!

I haven't smiled so widely or contained such giggles from reading a new author in a long time, but you can definitely count me as a new fan.
