Peggy Parish was the author of the children's story series Amelia Bedelia. The series was continued, after her sudden death from an aneurysm, by her nephew Herman Parish. Peggy attended the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Herman honored Peggy's life in his book, Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia, by writing in its dedication: "For Peggy Parish, the real Amelia Bedelia."

Did you know that Peggy Parish wrote books other than Amelia Bedelia? Well she did, and the Liza, Bill & Jed Mysteries are just great! In fact, these were some of my favorite and earliest reads from my childhood!

Something always exciting happens when Jed and the twins go to their grandparents for the summer. Grandpa tells them an old family story and, coincidentally, one of the kids finds a clue. Then it's all a mad race through the house, barn, fields and the like to put the clues together and solve the family riddle. They're always full of mystery, creaky attics, and fun explorations along the way. I definitely idolized their summer adventures and I know your young readers will too!

Ages: 5 - 10

Cleanliness: the kids squabble occasionally but always apologize and/or make up.

With each review, I provide a Cleanliness Report, mentioning any objectionable content I come across so that parents and/or conscientious readers (like me) can determine beforehand whether they want to read a book or not. Content surprises are super annoying, especially when you’re 100+ pages in, so here’s my attempt to help you avoid that!

Another day, another pile of clues hidden in trees. I think this is the book when Peggy Parish went on auto-pilot. The plot is the same as Key to the Treasure. The characters are the same. The types of puzzles are getting less creative- this time, mostly just drawings of the tree or cave where the next clue will be found.

The book is longer than the others in the series. It was padded out by the kids constantly having to go to bed or go swimming with Grandpa or something.

My 6yo loved it and gave it five stars. As a grown up, I'd agree with people who said the series peaked with the Haunted House Mystery.

Somehow I ran across the fact that Peggy Parish (of Amelia Bedelia fame) wrote children's mystery novels so I decided to check them out. These are definitely for kids, and kids only. Unlike other books written for this age level (see: anything by Beverly Cleary), it did not hold my interest as an adult too. However, I can imagine that as 7-8 year-old, I probably would have greatly enjoyed it. It reminds me a lot of The Boxcar Children series, in that I was a huge fan as a kid and was disappointed at how poorly they held up when I re-read them as an adult. So, while I'll keep these in mind for my future children, I won't be reading the rest of the books in the series.

This was always my favorite of the series as a kid. I have to admit it's a little dissappointing to read these as an adult because they don't quite hold up and I find myself wanting to edit some of the sexist comments for my children. But my kids absolutely love these stories, just like I did at their ages (6 & 8 years) .

This is a continuation of the mystery series. I really want to make a mystery like the one they did in the book.
