The Viking's Conquest

Rate this book
Kidnapped, captured, and captivated, but who is conquering who?

When she is left all but alone to defend her family's castle against an army of battle-hardened Viking raiders, nineteen-year-old Princess Aurelie of Donrose fights valiantly but is soon overcome. After her capture by the tall, handsome leader of the northmen, Prince Anders, she is carried away along with the rest of the spoils of conquest.

Anders makes it clear to the princess that she is now his property, to do with as he likes, and he takes pleasure in stripping her bare and putting her on display. When she defies her new master, Aurelie quickly discovers that Anders will not hesitate to spank her soundly, but to her shame the painful, humiliating punishment leaves her deeply aroused.

Bound and helpless yet burning with desire, the princess finds herself longing for the bold, dominant warrior to take her hard and thoroughly, and when she surrenders to his mastery of her body the pleasure is more intense than she would have ever thought possible. Aurelie's submission to Anders grows more complete with each passing day, but when her brothers arrive with an army to seek vengeance against their old enemy she must make a fateful choice. Will she remain loyal to her family and her people, or come to the aid of her Viking prince?

Publisher's Note: The Viking's Conquest includes spankings, sexual scenes and sexual humiliation, and more. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Not for me, which sucks since the cover is nice and I love a nice, kinky captor/captive dynamic as long as there is a strong romantic focus :)

IMHO this is not a romance (as suggested to me by the all-knowing marketing gurus at Amazon). It is BDSM erotica with a tiny smidgen of romance. I prefer it the other way around. YMMV.

The heroine is a princess carried away by vikings after a siege on her castle. She is claimed by their prince as his property. Thus begins the mind fuck that is this story. The heroine is told that she is now property and must obey the prince in everything, but he won't force her to have sex. That's her decision. Hmmmmm..... I guess that could be accurate in that the heroine is someone obviously turned on by punishment and humiliation. Consent in this book is also very much based on the response = consent theory. Oh and brainwashing/conditioning. Can't forget that. The heroine is placed into a position where it is in her direct interest to please the prince and keep him happy. She eventually becomes the Patty Hearst of viking land.

Oddly, I was reminded of something I read in a book about corporate farming and our food supply. Namely the discussion on the reliability of terms used in marketing. Cage Free eggs bring to mind chickens running about the farm doing chickeny things rather than spending their lives in cramped cages. In most cases, the reality is that they are kept in those little cages until ready to produce eggs. Then a door to the outside is provided and they are uncaged. Problem is, by this time, their little chicken brains are effectively caged. Reportedly few if any actually explore the outside world. Like I mentioned before brainwashing and conditioning.

Another thing I didn't like was her attraction to the prince's follower Magnus. Magnus was an ass who would have killed the heroine in the beginning if not for the prince's intervention. Yet, she finds herself turned on by his rough treatment and sexual assault (not full-on rape). Another case of the body says yes and the mind says no. She's also punished for it by the jealous prince. I know, I know... sexuality is complex and all that. BUT, I'd rather not have my heroine lusting after another guy, willingly or nay.

The end was odd. Definitely a HFN.

Basically, not my thing. If you like the more psychological aspects of a noncon d/s relationship and a masochist's self realization and loss of self in a total 24-7 domination scenario. You may like this. It has its admirers, obviously. No judgement, just not my cuppa.

This was a sweet little story with a bit of punishment and humiliation on the side. Princess Aurelie is left to defend the castle as the Viking invaders storm the gates. Needless to say, she is taken and given to Prince Anders as his new property.
She is never taken against her will, so there's no non-con going on here, but he does make it difficult to say no. She is humiliated and treated like property, but Aurelie finds that she is more aroused by this treatment than she is disgusted.
Very few errors and it was a cute little story. I did wonder how the invaders were Vikings??? Nothing in their behavior or their way of life was at all Viking-like, but I'm probably thinking too hard about it. The only part I really had a problem with was the ass to vag scene--that always grosses me out.

A 'spanking' hot read

This is very much a spanking/humiliation read, if either of those things would be a 'no' for you then please proceed with caution. However if you like a very steamy, erotic romance then this is a pretty decent read. I've really enjoyed several other works by this author, so based on author and blurb I decided to give this a try.

I knew that the book would contain a fair amount of spanking, a lot of domination and some very hot sex scenes, I wasn't too sure what the viking part would entail. To be honest the historical aspect didn't feel terribly 'genuine' but it really didn't matter. This is a 'capture/slave' romance and the setting is very secondary to the 'action'.

With her father, the King, missing and her brothers off defending their kingdom, Princess Aurelie is the last line of defence in their castle. Whilst fighting the viking invaders, Aurelie is captured and taken as a prize by Prince Anders. Anders treats her as his possession, at times as an object but despite her frequent punishment and almost perpetual humiliation, Aurelie finds his treatment of her both strangely exciting and also arousing.

I enjoyed the story of Aurelie and Anders even though, at times, his treatment made it a little difficult to believe he had feelings for her. However that wasn't because of poor writing or story telling. I personally struggled with some of the humiliation scenes but that's ME not the writing/characters/book, I perhaps needed a few more scenes of his gentler side. Their attraction was believable, in fact they had intense chemistry that almost made my kindle melt.

Whilst the story features a LOT of sexual and domination encounters there were some decent sub-plots that added extra depth. There were no dubious or non consent encounters, Aurelie also enjoyed the embarrassing and degrading treatment she was subjected too. I enjoyed the ending and the impact it had on their relationship too.

I LOVED The Viking's Conquest! In all honesty, I'm a huge Felicity Brandon fan. I devoured her contemporary erotic novel, Submission at the Tower, and when I found out she was writing a historical erotic romance about Vikings, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The story absolutely lived up to my expectations and then some.

While defending her home and castle, Princess Aurelie of Donrose is captured by invaders from the north, who wisk her away from everything and everyone she's ever known. Aurelie finds herself suddenly the property of Prince Anders, leader of the northmen. He makes it clear that she belongs to him, merely a spoil of his most recent conquest. And while her independent spirit rebels at the notion of being owned by the man, she finds that she is genuinely and inexplicably aroused by the possessive means he uses to correct her.

This book is HOT, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The characters pulled me in, the plot was fast-paced and thrilling, and the ending? Just... Well, you'll have to read it. I'm giving The Viking's Conquest FIVE HUGE STARS! Don't miss it!

Good author. Well written for what it is. I think that the realization that Aurelie was turned on by the situation she found herself in was waaaaaay too rushed for a sheltered maiden though. It kind of takes away from internal struggle as the concept is discovered for what it is as events unfold.

Romances about Vikings are always hot. Always. This time is no different. Felicity Brandon's Vikings, especially Anders, are to die for.

So, Aurelie of Donrose is trying to keep her castle from being overrun by Vikings. In the process, she is almost killed by one of them, but the prince, Anders, steps in and claims her as his prize. He demands that she be taken back to his camp. When there, he tells her that he won't take anything she won't consent to, and then comes up with some interesting punishments. But, will Aurelie be able to stand strong as the princess of her kingdom or is Anders just too overpowering?

I love this story. The journey that Aurelie goes on to figure out who she actually is and what she really wants is pretty cool. It can be hard for anyone to figure out what they want and who they are, and under the pressure that Aurelie deals with can make it even harder. I"m sure that there were times when it would have been hard to thing at all since Anders was very overwhelming. I love what Felicity Brandon had to write in this story.

Once upon a time there was this beautiful princess..if you think it's that type of book forget it. There is a beautiful princess and a very gorgeous prince but she is not his fair bride she is his captive. Oh my this book was hotter than hot..with a lot of BDSM in it! Aurelie the captive princess is taken by a viking prince who wants to be her master but still will not take her virtue unless she consents. Anders is one strong Dominant viking prince who finds he enjoys having her as his captive slave and doles out punishment to this spoiled princess. This is a great story but don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'm stopping here. Needless to say you will love it if you love dark romance this book if for you. Felicity Brandon can spin an amazing tale..this is my first book of her and I will gladly read much more she has written!!

Disappointment Reigns👑, Not Vikings🐺🍆🌋🔪👋

Adult Viking Romance with BDSM 👋elements.
This is more erotic romance and nothing about it is history!

Aurelie👸🔪, is a Celtic princess, trained to fight with the sword. Her father, the Laird, and brother are off fighting in other places, leaving her and a few men to defend the castle.

The Vikings🐺🔪 come to The poorly defended castle and easily subdue the inhabitants. Aurelie👸🔪, dressed as a youth, fights a huge Viking, Magnus🐺🔪, valiantly, but it's a lopsided sword fight and he beats her easily. She is bruised but not cut.

Magnus🐺🔪 realizes she is a woman and his Viking Prince, Anders🐺🍆🌋🔪, arrives to claim her as his when he realizes she is the Laird's daughter, also a princess👸.

I really disliked the humiliation that Anders🐺🍆🌋🔪, a sadist, heaps upon Aurelie👸, over and over. Humiliation of another human being is not my thing, and it detracted from the story , such as it is. Not a lot of story except that of Anders🐺🍆🌋🔪 totally humiliating and dominating Aurelie👸, trying to force her to become his lover. And it is force.

Some of the things he did to her would have injured her in real life. Not good.

There is a limit.....and I think this author crossed that line with some of the torture described as bondage.

I skipped over some parts of the book. It became too ridiculous to even bother reading.
I'm going to Try to remember this author's name so i don't check out any more of her books.

Stockholm Syndrome

I’d give this book no stars if it were possible. I am gobsmacked that one customer review called it a "sweet story."
This book is beyond BDSM, nor does it qualify for erotica. I have never read a book/story line that the lead male is so cruel. The cruelty includes degradation, humiliation and horrific pain to the female lead. I won’t call them hero and heroine because neither of them deserve the title. I’ve read books about serial killers who did not treat their victims as badly as Anders treated Aurelie. The whole story defies belief. I add this author to my do not read list.

This book was an interesting read for me. It's smoking hot, written well and has a great plot and I enjoyed reading it. But I had trouble accepting Anders' behavior towards Aurelie, I get that she was a captive and he was a Viking, but I still cringed at times. He does redeem himself and for that I was happy and the ending was very good. I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.

I loved the whole Viking plot. I love the fact it happened years ago but has great sex scenes.

Loved it. It reminds me of the Wolf and the Dove which was one of my favorites. The sex scenes are so much better.

Not my cup of tea

I like a dark romance. But not rape and sexual degradation to get a woman to cooperate and have sex with her kidnapers. This is a true Stockholm syndrome case. There is no love or romance here. If your looking for that type of story skip this one.

I enjoyed most of this book I took away a star because there were parts that pulled me out of the story. For example aureile is Andre’s captive and he claims to not want to hurt her and yet he doesn’t stop to assess if he is hurting her mentally or physically. Every time he pushed her hard and made her endure things she had never endured before I found myself questioning his reasoning instead of staying present in the book and enjoying the story. All in all I did enjoy it and I liked the Viking theme and the plot of the book. The writing was amazing as always from Felecity. I did not expect the ending at all and the last 5 chapters take you on a serious ride to prepare for that!

Vikings!

This was a great read. Vikings pillage a castle and Prince Anders takes Lady Aurelie as a prize. He is a dominating man and the poor girl don’t know what hit her. The Prince is equally obsessed with his little captive and the fun begins. Lots of spankings and hot steamy scenes and major drama. Totally enjoyed it!

Kidnapped, captured, and captivated, but whose conquering who?
War has come to Donrose, and with her men away, Princess Aurelie is left to defend her castle from the impending northern invasion. Vastly outnumbered and overpowered, brave Aurelie is soon captured and finds herself the new prize of Anders, Prince of the Vikings. Uncertain of her captor, and frustrated by her imprisonment, Aurelie is confused by her burgeoning desires for the towering Anders, but when he puts the maiden over his knee to punish her, her thirst for him threatens to spill over… How can a lady of such high position entertain the idea of a spanking, yet alone be excited by it? Bound, used and displayed, Aurelie’s journey of self-discovery begins as she learns her surrender delivers not only humiliation, but also great arousal and pleasure. With her yearning fit to burst, she yields to her new master, utterly compelled by his dominant affections. But then, all at once – everything changes… And now Aurelie of Donrose must make the ultimate choice and one that she never thought possible. With Anders’ life hanging in the balance, will she choose her family’s lands or her new found love?

When Princess Aurelie is captured by Anders, Prince of the Vikings, after a spirited fight, she is unprepared for her conqueror to put her over his knee and give her a thorough spanking. She is also unprepared for how that made her feel. Anders is handsome and strong and very firm with his new prisoner, using physical punishment and bondage to put her in her place, and to convince his people that they are mightier warriors than the people in the south, Aurelie's people. Although at times Aurelie feels humiliated, she is surprised how much she comes to desire her captor's firm hand, and longs for him to take her body as his spoils of war.

This book is hot and very spicy and hard to put down. The author has a way of drawing the reader in to the story and makes the characters into interesting, three-dimensional people. It is both exciting and erotic and I thoroughly recommend it. This Viking has thoroughly conquered me!

The Viking's Conquest is truly a gripping read. While it has all the components of a great historical romance, it gives a whole other meaning to 'the virgin princess captured by the formidable prince' trope.

When Anders - Prince of the Vikings takes proud and pampered Princess Aurelie from her home, he strips her bare until she comes alive under his astute and potent dominance. Her punishments are sharp and deep and her reactions to them are fervid yet denuding. Her sexual humiliations are vivid and powerfully evoking but I found myself trusting Anders the same way Aurelie instinctively did.

Ms. Brandon introduces fascinating characters at their most profound which makes The Viking's Conquest an intense, provocative read, beautiful and mesmerizing with a breathtaking, satisfying ending.

Love this Viking!

Do you just read a book or do you feel it? If you feel a book, as I do, then you are going to love this one. This is my second Felicity Brandon book and both had me holding my breath and clenching my muscles in a very good way. Ms. Brandon is an author, a true story teller.
From their first meeting I was cheering for The Viking and His Captive. Not your conventional romance but, it would take a stone heart not to feel the love.
I'm not a professional reviewer and don't have a way with words so I can only say, I'm just someone that loves to read books that take me away and scratch whatever itch I have at the moment. The Viking's Conquest took care of both.

Felicity Brandon's The Viking Conquest delivers on a number of levels. The writing is clean and descriptive. The story line flows beautifully. The characters are well-developed and interesting, as is the historical background upon which the story is constructed. Felicity's exploration of the psychological processes of subjugation, humiliation and degradation are well thought out and executed. Her female character's confusion involving her own conflicted feelings regarding her punishments is remarkably insightful. And Felicity made it impossible for me to dislike her Viking conqueror. After all, who could resist a Viking lord? In all, this was an engaging and entertaining story. Kudos Felicity!

Enjoyable Viking Spanking Romance

The Viking's Conquest was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It's a book with a good story and a lot of sex. One you can curl up with in bed and we'll do whatever 😉. Some of the punishments were over the top but mostly fit the premise of the story. The two main characters falling in love felt a little rushed but there's a second book so I'm hoping to read of their love stepping and becoming more encompassing. Overall though I enjoyed the read. It's the first time I've read Felicity Brandon and I will read more. She writes a good dirty book.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! When Aurelie is captured and imprisoned by a viking invader, things do not look good - thankfully not all is as bad as it seems. Anders finds Aurelie quite beautiful and sets his sights on making her his, the trouble is - she's one feisty lady!! Can he tame her and win her over? You can't help but wonder as the trials that poor Aurelie has to endure are sinfully sexy and naughtily delicious. Definitely a hot read with a generous sprinkling of yummy sex.

I can definitely see why this book is so highly rated in medieval romance. I was not expecting parts of it due to the time period. The author did a good job of incorporating BDSM into a historical romance. I was especially surprised at the humiliation aspects due to the time period.

Do not recommend for a thousand reasons, but I'll try to keep it brief and only discuss my main issues below.

1) Historical romances still need to have some 'historical' elements. First and foremost, I love a good historical romance. I am particularly fond of anything with Vikings and Highlanders because... I mean, we've all seen them and they're gorgeous, so, of course the attraction is instant. But I do expect that there are still historical elements within historical romances. I don't need a history book -- but things have to make sense and be realistic. Within the first few pages, the Vikings invade Aurelie's castle and she picks up a sword to attempt to defend herself (I'm fine with this). Well, Aurelie gets backed into a corner and a big Viking with a sword is about to kill her when suddenly the Viking prince--we'll get back this in a moment--says nah, we don't kill women, that's not us. Pause here please. Vikings absolutely killed women, especially women that were wielding swords because that's absolutely how wars were waged 'back in the day'. Watch any Vikings tv show and you'll see plenty of warriors slaughtering other warriors regardless of gender. So, already I have an issue here because the "Vikings" in this story somehow follow a very different version of Norse warriorhood.

I don't like the name 'Anders' for a Viking but that's our lead, Anders. He's now saved Aurelie but only so that he can bring her back to his camp and then humiliate her--but don't worry because (1) he promises not to rape her and (2) she's going to end up liking the humiliation, he just has a feeling and just knows it. But I have a few more issues here in terms of the historical aspects. We keep calling Anders a prince and, well, I'm just thinking that's not how Vikings referred to sons of chieftains and such but... I should probably let this one go, it just becomes oddly annoying. Moving on, Anders also has nothing going on apparently because he has plenty of time to sit around at camp doing very little other than humiliating Aurelie. There is a scene in which he's sitting around "reading reports" and let me stop you right there again... reading reports? Were Vikings authoring a lot of parchment reports? Then reading them? What?!

And if this wasn't all enough to question the historical fiction aspects of the novel, we suddenly find out that this is going to be a good ol' BDSM novel. Huh? Yes. There's a ton of spanking, bondage, and other nonsense that normally I love. But it just makes zero sense in this setting and I'm not sure why the author thought that combining Vikings and BDSM was going to be effective because it just never becomes effective.

Okay, so I think you get my point -- the historical elements are all over the place. It is super, super bothersome for someone that thought we would get just a tad bit more historical in this historical romance. And again, no idea why the BDSM made sense here.

2) The dialog is awful. There's just not a better way to put this other than to say the dialog is bad. I think the first thing that threw me was a line where someone says 'Is that your sword over there?' I laughed but I also cried a bit inside. Just bad dialog. The word choice throughout makes no sense. And the repetition is painful. You'll get the same word used over, and over, and over, and over, and over again as if using it multiple times adds meaning. That's not how it works.

3) Now, if you can get past these big main points above then maybe you think this is going to be a steamy romantic tale of two people from different cultures falling in love. Nah, more like she's a captive who is told "consent matters" but then consent doesn't matter several times in the novel. I guess "rape" is bad but grabbing breasts and parading a woman around naked is ok? And literally at one point Aurelie is sexually assaulted by Anders' friend and in response Anders basically says he's upset, then punishes Aurelie for being sexually assaulted--she said no and consent supposedly matters in this novel but, nah, go ahead and punish her and just let your friend stick around because... eww. Gross. Disgusting! Shame on publishers for allowing this kind of assault (fictional or not) to occur and then say 'no worries this is still a romance!'. Ick!

Do not waste your time with this one if you actually care at all about consent. Not only is this not good BDSM and not good historical romance, it just isn't good in terms of accepting Anders' behavior. ICK. I won't read anything by this author again because I'm a big, big fan of consent (even in fiction!) and when an author has characters sexually assaulting others... nah. This isn't romance. This isn't acceptable.

This is but the second book by Ms. Brandon that I have read. As with the first, I just cannot believe that anyone can write in such a way as to draw the reader so far into the mind of the heroine that they would feel the torment and beauty of her thoughts.
This is a book about Vikings. And, the action begins immediately with a fierce battle and the capture of princess Aurelie by Prince Anders, a Norse Viking. Once the victorious men and their female prize return to their encampment, Aurelie becomes a captive slave to Anders. She must remember and obey his every order, without delay. Failure to do so results in swift and harsh punishment. As her adjustment to her new circumstance proceeds, we are allowed into Aurelie’s psyche to discern her inner struggles during her sexual awakening. Almost immediately, this young girl becomes aware of her response to Anders discipline, and it embarrasses and confuses her. Through the author’s words, we are allowed to be privy to Aurelie’s innermost thoughts and conflicting emotions as she reacts to her submission and Anders dominance.
Through her skill as a writer, Felicity Brandon was able to magnificently describe her heroine’s feelings and musings during her arousal. For me, this was one long, sensuous exploration of Aurelie as she becomes a woman with her own needs and desires.

I LOVE romance novels - in all genres, from contemporary, to christian, to paranormal, and I've even read slave/master/bondage type of novels before, but NEVER had i read a novel where the love interest literally parades his future queen, although she isn't that at the moment, through a warrior camp ... i mean really, the stuff Andres does to Aureli while she's a captive - IN PUBLIC - was hard for me to deal with. with that said, the book is well written despite me having a hard time liking the 'hero.' the tale is unique (at least in my read experience) and the story is very compelling. i enjoyed it, despite my internal struggle with likely Andres, but i guess that helps me relate to Aureli better. I would have liked to have read some part in his POV to help me like him a little, although by the end of the story I was already on his side.
