Of Sea and Stars continues the saga of Interforce Agent Jess Drake and her Biological Alternative partner, NM-Dev-1, that began in Melissa Good's first two books in her Partners series. This series chronicles what happens to human kind after a massive volcanic eruption puts earth into nuclear winter. The planet is cloaked in clouds and no sun penetrates. Seas cover most of the land areas except high elevations. These exist as islands where the remaining humans have learned to make do with much less. People survive on what they can take from the sea, and with foodstuffs supplemented from an orbiting set of space stations. This new world is divided into two factions, and the struggle for resources between them is brutal, pitting one side against the other. In Of Sea and Stars, Jess and Dev uncover a hidden cavern at Drakes Bay full of growing vegetables and fruit trees. There is evidence that the "other side" has been negotiating with Jess's brother, and with someone on the space station that created, Dev. This sends them on a quest into space to solve the mystery.

I enjoyed this book. There is a romantic element to it, action packed, a plot that has a lot of depth to it that made me think about what was going on. Quite a lot of fight scenes that fitted in with the context of the story. There was humour too, and I loved the comments from the bio alt Dev.
I did find some scenes went on a bit long and could have benefited from being tightened, and there was a lot of side characters that I did loose track of. But overall it was a pleasure to read a decent story with strong female characters in it, with the added bonus of a f/f relationship. I prefer stories that are more plot based and full of action.
It also answered some of the questions I had from books one & two, which I would also recommend reading.
This is my favourite author. Her other series, Dar and Kerry starting with Tropical Storm, are my absolute favourite books. So I knew when she started these books I had to read them. I'm usually not a fan of Dsytopian books but these are well written and in a way that engages the reader. Pulls them in for more. This particular book I read and thought about for a few days before reviewing because it was so good. It's action packed and full of twists and turns. It ties up a lot of loose ends so I'm not sure if they'll be a fourth, although there's still plenty to expand upon. Overall I enjoyed it immeasurably and I have already recommended it/the series to several people.
I actually had a memory pop up on Facebook, from like 5 years ago, I was reading the series in the picture. I decided it was time for a re-read.
I was definitely not disappointed. I love the series and Jess and Dev. It’s so interesting experiencing new things, like a pool and swimming or a kiss, through Dev’s eyes. The world has definitely changed and Good does a fantastic job of bringing this new earth to life. Jess is one tough cookie and I love how Dev brings out her softer side. Good does a excellent job of bringing the fighting to life. I have no problem being the imagery to life with the words written on the pages. The flights, fights, and relationships are fantastic. Good brings on all the emotions. Several times the story moved me to tears. The fear and devastation both Dev and Jess feel when they believe the other is dead, definitely tears. And then Man-o-man I needed Kleenex’s for the part were everyone one was saying goodbye to Doctor Dan. I absolutely love Jess and Dev, and even though I think the book ended beautifully, I really wouldn’t mind another story for them. So happy to read them again and I’m happy to say I will definitely continue to read them more often.

This is an Uber-Xena Series written by my favorite fan fiction writer, Melissa Good. This book and series is set far in the future. And a future that I hope will not come to pass. Yet, I love these characters and these stories. I re-read them at least once a year. If you like science fiction and you like Xena and Gabrielle fan fiction, you will like this “reincarnation “ of them in a world far different from theirs and ours. There are currently 3 books in the series. I am hoping for a fourth one. This book is the third in the series.
