Lies, lies, lies; everybody tells them.... Greyson Keller didn't intend to lie; it just came out that way. So when the object of that lie shows up on her doorstep, she is confused, shocked, and embarrassed. Calvin Thompson is an Ivy Leaguer, attending University over an hour away, playing rugby and basically not giving a crap. So imagine his surprise when some guy named Greyson begins rumors online that they're dating -- the only logical solution is to drive an hour and confront him... Be there when Greyson and Cal finally meet face-to-face because. Sparks. Will. Fly. Yes, sparks fly. That's why this book is intended for those 17+ and older. Foul language, cursing, and sexual content.

And you know what? I loved it!
Grey and Cal were adorable and if they were a living and breathing real life couple, I'm quite certain they'd unapologetically be annoying the crap out of everyone around them with their sweetness. Given that the last couple of books I read were full of couples playing games and manipulating each other, Things Liars Say was a refreshing change of pace. Admittedly, over the top sweetness isn't usually my bag, but a girl's got to give in once in a while.
This book was so sweet and funny and gave me all kinds of happy feels. I absolutely loved it and could not stop smiling while I read it. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting.
I loved how Grey and Cal developed their friendship first that turned into something more. Their emails and texts back and forth were so funny and sweet. I really appreciated that Cal was not an immature, selfish, cocky college manwhore that got paired with a sweet, good girl like you see in so many college age romances. It was a very refreshing read and just what I needed.
I would definitely recommend this for a very low angst and sweet read. I am looking forward to the next one and hoping it's a good as the first.
I loved every word of this book. The texts, emails and tweets between Grey and Cal were so adorable and funny that I laughed out loud many times. This is low on angst and just a sweet love story. I loved that they really got to know each other so well through being "pen pals". Made their love very believable to me. I can't wait to read more by this author.
This book was brilliant it was so funny. I luvd the story the sexually chemistry was hot from the very beginning. The way these to went from not know each other at all to growing to be friend to best friend to luvin each other was great. I luv how this author writes it's so good. I luv the texts and the emails theyou were so funny and hot. Even with the distants u can see they were great together. I m dying to read more from this series. I read the Douchebag series from this author and just luvd it i just had to read more of her work and I know i m goin to luv this series.
Rating: 2.5 Stars. Steam: 4 out of 10 (only one sex scene) Rating: 2.5 Stars. Triggers: Love Triangle: Cheating: HEA: It's a product of its time, super straight gay wants to beat the hell out of a guy because the guy said they here dating to get their friends of their back but it was actually a girl (with a guy's name) so that makes it okay (for her to lie). Super small book tho, but definitely has a few LGBT+ and anti women (like we are weak) problems
Greyson Keller tells a little white lie. To appease her matchmaking sorority sisters her spur of the moment fib regarding her relationship status doesn’t seem like such a big deal. Till her imaginary boyfriend shows up at her front door.
Cal Thompson didn’t know he was in a relationship. Till he read it on Twitter. But this little misunderstanding actually serves to bring two available people together in this cute, sweet, and sexy romantic tale.
“…a story of our friendship, bond, and love.”
What I adored (absolutely adored) about this book— There is no unnecessary drama. No meddling OW or OM. Just a cute story of boy meets girl, engages in flirty correspondence with girl, becomes friends with girl, falls in love with girl and vice versa. Greyson is outgoing, confident, and spunky. (No whiney, wishy-washy insecure females here.) Cal is a down-to-earth, average guy. (He’s not a douchebag or a manwhore or thinks he’s god’s gift to women.) Both main characters are single people not looking for sex or love but find it when and where they least expect it. They aren’t broken or damaged or hauling around baggage from previous relationships. They are just normal people. I wish more authors wrote swoon worthy romance stories like this.
“You know why I’m here.”
Told via Grey and Cal’s alternating first person point of view, the story is light-hearted and fun told in many sections via emails, texts, and social media posts. It was so refreshing to read a new adult romance simply about meeting someone you connect with and falling in love.
“You’re not my dirty little secret. You’re my guilty pleasure.”
Awww!
They really make a cute couple and their first kiss was hotter than a lot of love scenes I’ve read. When they finally hook up, it definitely oozed steam because there was actually a build up…a huge build up of their friendship, chemistry, and feelings for one another.
While it’s listed as novella length, the characters and the romance are fully developed. That’s not to say I didn’t close the story craving more of Cal and Grey cause I certainly did, and I’d have preferred the epilogue to be told by them. So I’d definitely read another novella about their future if it was like this one. (Hint, hint to the author)
This book was adorable! I loved the banter between Grey and Cal- they were so sweet with each other. I liked that they really got to know each other through emails, texts, and face time before they got physical. Cal only had one night stands, but didn't seem like a manwhore. I think it had been 2-3 months since his last ONS when he met Grey. Of course she hadn't been with anyone since her last relationship 2 years prior. As much as I liked the emails and texts I really wish we could have seen them together more. This book would have been a 5 star with 2 or 3 more scenes of them together. I also would have loved an epilogue! Safety gang safe
I LOVED this short, sexy, funny and sweet story!! Grey is in need of a boyfriend so that her friends will stop bothering her. She tells them she's dating someone and when they ask who she pulls a name out of thin air- Cal Thompson. Only Grey doesn't know there really is a Cal Thompson and he only lives an hour away. Cal is angry when his friends tell him some guy named Grey is claiming to have a relationship with him so he sets off to meet this guy and kick his ass. That is, until he gets there and finds out that Grey is actually a beautiful blonde woman.
This book had some of the best banter I have ever read. I laughed out loud a couple times and couldn't stop smiling while I read this. I adored Cal and Grey. I wish this book would've been longer because I was not ready to say goodbye to them. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quick, fun, and sexy romance!
Overall Opinion: This was a really cute and easy read. I love the banter and the fact that the h was more attractive than the H. Usually the stories are where the h is lucky to have snagged the H's attention, so this was a nice change. I think more books should have this dynamic to show that not all of us females are so shallow that we worry about looks and not much else. I cannot say that I don't feel like attraction is important -- it is! But looks aren't always everything...personally intelligence and sense of humor are way up there in my book. This is a good bit shorter than most of the books I read because I always worry about not having enough time to establish a connection, but I didn't feel that with this book. Did it get deep? No. But it was still enjoyable and we feel the connection they make through Twitter posts, email, and texts over several weeks. (I would've still liked it longer though). I agree with other reviewers in that it would've been nice to have more interaction face-to-face with the h and H and I would've also liked some more closure with the couple.
I've never done the .75 rating before, but I couldn't give it the full 4 stars (and I feel like 3.5 isn't enough) because of 3 things: the length, not enough in person interaction, and needing more closure.
Storyline: This is Greyson and Cal's story. Greyson is on a charity committee for her sorority and to prevent nagging from her friends about who her date is going to be for their big gala -- she invents a fake boyfriend. Meanwhile, Cal is told by his friends that some dude is posting on Twitter about how they are dating. Cal is shocked when drives the hour to beat up this guy when Greyson is a girl. They end up developing a friendship and their relationship grows over email and texts. After a few steamy kisses and some sweet words, their relationship starts to cross the line into something more than just friendship. The couple find their HFN in the end.
POV: This alternated between Greyson and Cal's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Quick. It was a short read that flowed nicely, and even though feelings developed quickly I don't feel like it was too instalove for me.
H rating: 4 stars. Cal. He was a sweet brute...what more can I say?
h rating: 5 stars. Greyson. I loved how she never understood what people referred to when they expressed that she was too attractive for Cal. She appreciated him for him and didn't question her feelings -- and I liked that a lot.
Sadness level: Low. Minimal drama. No tissues needed at all.
Heat level: Low. Some steamy kisses and one sex scene towards the end.
Descriptive sex: Yes.
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: I would put this under a HFN ending. I know the author probably wanted to keep this short because it was a novella, but some more closure would've been appreciated on my end.
4.25 stars! Awe I loved this. Cute, sweet, light, too short of a read. I loved both Grey and Cal!Adorable couple! Love the banter between them. It was refreshing that Cal was a bit insecure and couldn't believe a girl like her would like him. He was so sweet!Grey was adorable and sweet. This was a read were I got to the end and didn't even realize it. I wanted to keep reading. I want more:) I wish the epilogue was more about them in the future. I really wish we would of had more time with them actually in person together. safety gang safe neither were virgins. 4 months last since Cal had sex. he was more of a ONS guy. no relationships. 2 years last since Grey had sex. it was her last boyfriend. she was more of a relationship girl. no condoms use between them. he never went without. she is on the pill. it's never said if she went without before. I'm going to think it was her first time too. lol what they had they never felt before :)
DNF! Book started off great and was really funny, but then it just went downhill and I got bored. Most of the book is dialog between email/texts to each other and it just became too much. Heroine was the main pursuer and chased the Hero and felt like an actual stalker who spoke like a middle schooler. The times they did meet, I didn't feel the connection, he seemed to only like her looks and she seemed obsessed with him so it was hard for me to feel the chemistry between the two.
This is a weird title because the only lie in the story is the meet-cute and that one wasn't even to the other party. And the beginning is a bit strained due to Cal's reaction that drew him down for their meet-cute because, well, gender assumptions from names just aren't that reliable these days and I don't know many people who would take a hard-line assumption that "Grey" == male.
All of that said, I adored this story and its protagonists. Yeah, I liked them both immensely, but what really drew me in is their relationship being built at a distance. Ney does an incredible job with the mix of email, text, twitter, and facetime to build their connection and make it feel dynamic and real. And, sometimes, laugh-out-loud funny. I loved the humor and honesty and that they'd call each other out on misunderstandings. I loved that Grey honestly and sincerely found Cal attractive, right from the start, and was frank enough to communicate that fully (he's one of those rugged types that aren't in the book-cover model vein—meaning with flaws, including scars and all those things people call "rugged" when they're trying to be kind).
In short, this just worked for me on pretty much every level. It's on the short side, but exactly the length this story needed to be. So yeah, it's getting all the stars.
A note about Steamy: There's a single explicit sex scene putting this in the lower end of my steam tolerance. That isn't a given for a story this short, but it was also one that hit the highlights and the emotional connection and then pulled back significantly on subsequent details. Which I thought just right, really.
This is a sweet, new adult/college romance that brings about the good things that can come from “meeting someone online”. Now, when I first saw the title I immediately thought this book was going to be about a queen bee who is ultimately a liar. However, instead of getting a sassy miss priss, the heroine (Greyson) is quite sweet and charming. I really adored her character. She is definitely not who I thought she was going to be so this was a pleasant surprise. This book not only brings about a cool and unique plot (meeting someone online through a little white lie), but a unique way of relaying the story. The story is told in the traditional way of course, but the author also adds in the couple’s communication through twitter, email, and text messaging. I liked this because it made for not only a faster read but a fun way for us to see the budding relationship of Greyson and Cal.
Overall, I did enjoy this story. It fun, fast faced, and shows the growth of a really sweet relationship for the two main characters. Moreover, I liked it because the story wasn’t one of those insta love types. Instead, we get to see their relationship grow over weeks. The communication aspect of the story is key to their relationship and the author portrays this wonderfully.
You can read this book for FREE on kindle unlimited. There are 2 other stories that go along with them. Each novella is a standalone with an HEA. I would rate this particular book as 4 stars!
This college romance is super sweet and angst free. It’s also a quick read. With fewer than 200 pages, it was easy to enjoy Things Liars Say in one sitting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the transition from anger to friendship to romance. The progression feels natural and unhurried despite the novel’s short length. I loved the texting and emails between Grey and Cal. The fun banter helps to develop their friendship.
There are a few questionable elements that prevented me from rating this story higher. The main issue is that I couldn’t understand the need for Grey’s lie in the first place. It’s such a minor problem that could have been easily resolved without an elaborate lie. Despite her initial dishonesty, she’s completely genuine and kind towards Cal. He attracts women and is an athlete at an Ivy League school. Why is he so insecure where Grey is concerned?
Grey’s friend becomes rude and hurtful out of the blue. Then suddenly they’re besties again, and their argument is never addressed. Why dredge up conflict only to leave it unresolved? If this plot point was more developed it could have benefited the story.
Cal and Grey have fabulous chemistry, and it’s their friendship that really makes the book enjoyable. Overall, I was entertained by this new adult romance.

This novella was the cutest. Fun little story about Grayson Keller, a sorority girl making up a fake boyfriend so her friends can back off, but turns out her “fake boyfriend” is very much real, and extremely pissed off about being used.
Did Cal “the fake boyfriend”- expect to find a gorgeous blonde when he finally met the person who has been using his name”? Hell nah.
I have already said this, but I swear the cuteness factor was all over the place. Loved how confident and flirting Grayson was. It was a nice change, when we usually see it the other way around. With the guy being the more “aggressive flirt”. She was a delight.
Cal was a total sweetheart, and totally awkward with the whole dating thing. It was awesome😂
A lot of the book consisted of SMS and emails, and I would have preferred a little less of that, but then again, that’s how their relationship formed, and it was sweet.
Read: 12/04/2019 1st rating: 3.5 stars Genre/sub-genres: College/New adult romance/sport Cover: 3 stars POV: Dual -1st person. (Grayson & Calvin)(+ Tabitha as epilogue)) Will I recommend: YES SARA NEY IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL!
There were a hella lotta tweets, texts, and emails and if you use these exclusively to move the story along, it needs to be done well. The hero is suppose to be this rugged rugby player and I found his writing voice quite feminine. I found it below par in pretty much all aspects.
Couldn't love this book more if I tried. This is the type of book I am looking for when I want my heart to soar and get butterflies all in my belly. It was the perfect size and Cal and Greyson were so adorably sweet that my cheeks still hurt from smiling so much. Gah. I needed that.
Greyson has been single for a couple of years but has a long planned dance coming up with her sorority. Everyone is taking someone and she is feeling the pressure. She makes up the name of a guy she is planning to bring as her date but had no idea that her friends would use the power of social media to track him down. However, this guy does not exist.
Turns out that Cal Wilkinson goes to college about one hour away and when his mates hassle him about a guy called Greyson tagging him in his posts, he decides to go and clear things up. He was not expecting Greyson to be a girl when he knocked on her door and man, is she gorgeous!
Once they have sorted things out and part ways, they keep in touch with email to begin with and then via text. A friendship begins to blossom between them which slowly grows into something more. They talk so much and share so many moments with each other. They see each other in person a few times and I think they both realise that this has the potential to be so much more.
This is a light, low angst romance that I enjoyed as an audio book. The perfect weekend read :)
