Have a Phobia? Then Read This and Find Help!

A gem of a read for those like myself who suffer from any type of phobia. I suffer from Agoraphobia and can tell you, using the tools and techniques shared in this amazing book work! Since applying them I have been able to do more outdoors and have no attacks and have been able to keep the "fear" that sneaks up on me at bay for me to follow through with what I need to do or get done out in public.

It has been refreshing to go dinner with husband and enjoy a meal and his company without fear of having an attack.

I have done much work and therapy to see a light at the end of this debilitating disorder tunnel, but after reading Kalliope's book and started using much of the techniques and tips has transformed my life. The book is well written, easy to read and it works! So if you suffer from any phobia's? Do yourself a favor and read this book. It truly will help you and highly recommend it...

If you suffer from any kind of phobia I recommend this book. I am still using it to work on mine, but the technique is an easy one to follow and it really gets to the base of your fear and helps you get over it. I have far too many irrational fears, so I will be using this book for awhile. This was a Goodreads giveaway that I won.

Note: I received this book for free in a giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

I like the practical advice for getting over fears. Mostly I liked the idea that you don't have to figure out why/how/when etc a fear began as long as you're ready to move forward and beyond that. It's all a good reminder on using positive motivators and self-talk to help yourself grow.

Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom was an interesting, informative read written specifically for those struggling with phobias, however I feel it can be read as an insight into phobias for those simply curious about the subject, and also a great tool for those seeking to help others trapped within them as well, without getting overly complicated. This could be a very useful book for recovery and I recommend it to those suffering with phobias of various degrees as well as loved ones to better understand those that have them. Very informative read.

While my phobias are no where near others, I found this book to be very useful and really helped me overcome some of the strongest feelings. I used it for lesser phobias, and may use it for my clown phobia, but honestly, I am kind of okay with having that one, I mean clowns are creepy AF and so why try to rid myself of that, why? So I can see IT? Nope.

The book is about confronting illogical fears. This is not a replacement for therapy as the book merely educates the reader on how to change their mentality. The book is divided into three parts. The first part looks at the difference between fears and phobias as well as their purpose. The second part provides the solution to change fear into freedom. The third part provides a transcript to demonstrate how Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can have a rewarding impact on someone.

People are more receptive to change when they gain a different perspective. For example, finding a reason to remove a phobia can help ‘laugh off’ the fear and the person can realise how to control their perception of what it is that scares them. The book offers techniques to remove illogical fears because the book advises keeping logical fears that can be life-saving, such as a fear of rattlesnakes so the response will be walking away and finding a safe place instead of ignoring the snake’s presence and risking an attack. This also applies to fearing fire so no one has the temptation to touch the stove, and fearing poison so there is care behind eating new food.

There is plenty of advice, such as urging readers to look at themselves from an outside point of view and find reasons for stopping a bad habit or finding reasons to start a new activity. For example, when seeking motivation to stop drinking alcohol on a daily basis, it’s important to learn what to do with the time saved and this can be starting a hobby. Likewise, if hypochondriacs could spend time living their lives instead of taking tests, they needn’t have to worry about their health when the initial tests already show they are healthy. The book is great at providing case studies to put into perspective how the energy put towards the phobia can be spent elsewhere simply with a mind shift.

Contrariwise, the book insists this is a quick read and dives straight into the techniques of conquering phobias. However, the book is extremely repetitive. A lot of the paragraphs are the same as the previous paragraphs but rephrased, such as shrinking the fear. In addition, the chapters refer to each other frequently, so information is repeated.

This is informative, but the book could be briefer and cut straight to the point. Nonetheless, the book provides plenty of case studies to grasp the ideology of perception and recognise how phobias can have a huge impact on the quality of life. This book is ideal for readers who want to justify their fears and understand the logical side of what it is that scares them and whether it affects their quality of life.

"Phobia Relief by Kalliope Barlis" is a remarkable book that unveils the art of conquering fears with simplicity and precision. Barlis does not delve into complex theories or lengthy explanations; instead, she presents readers with practical insights on changing the way they think to transform their lives.

The central theme of the book revolves around the idea that changing your thoughts can ultimately change your feelings and, consequently, your actions. The author's approach is refreshingly straightforward, making it accessible to anyone seeking to overcome their fears and embrace life to the fullest.

One of the book's strengths is the author's extensive research on how the brain functions during fear and the methods people use to overcome their fears. She builds upon the pioneering work of Mr. Richard Bandler, who granted her permission to write about his techniques, developed over four decades and continuously refined for efficiency and effectiveness.

The author emphasizes the importance of controlling one's thoughts, stating that thinking is an activity that can be managed. By changing our thought patterns, we rewire our brain, weaken old pathways, and create new ones, resulting in improved emotional well-being.

The book provides valuable distinctions between fear and phobia, shedding light on the fact that most fears are learned and can, therefore, be unlearned. The author's use of humour and real-life client experiences adds a relatable and engaging touch to the book, making it enjoyable and motivating for readers.

Also, this book incorporates exercises in every chapter, reinforcing the lessons learned. It underscores the significance of positive thinking, not just for phobia relief but for improving various aspects of life. The author encourages readers to find their purpose in life and shares the power of visualization and imagination.

One notable feature of the book is the appendix, which offers recommendations for further reading and references, adding depth to the reader's understanding of the subject matter.

Overall, "Phobia Relief" is a powerful tool for anyone seeking to conquer their fears and lead a more fulfilling life. The author's blend of humour, practical exercises, and NLP techniques sets it apart from conventional self-help books. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars, reserving one star for minor editing and spelling errors. This book is not just about phobia relief; it is a guide to transforming your mindset and improving every facet of your life.

Alright, let me just say that Kalliope Barlis' book "Phobia Relief" is a game-changer if you're someone who struggles with irrational fears and phobias. Instead of getting all technical and theoretical, Barlis cuts right to the chase with straightforward insights on how to change your thought patterns to change your life.

The core idea is simple but powerful - your thoughts dictate your feelings and actions. By learning to control and rewire how you think, you can overcome fears and phobias that have been holding you back. Barlis really did her research on how our brains work during fear and the methods used by folks who've conquered their phobias. She even got the green light from the OG Richard Bandler to share his techniques that he spent decades perfecting.

What I loved most was how relatable and enjoyable Barlis made the book with her use of humor and real-life client stories. The exercises at the end of each chapter were clutch too for reinforcing the positive thinking strategies. My favorite quote was "It's the thought of what they fear that makes them sweat, not what they fear itself" - so true about our minds blowing things out of proportion!

She makes great points about taking action to attract what you want, similar to the law of attraction. Barlis says how you think about things affects the quality of outcomes, which resonated. She even name-drops some celebs who tried her methods - I watched that episode and it was cool seeing the techniques in action.

Now I won't lie, I'm not fully sold on just being able to "chunk out" fears as some exercises suggest. But I'm willing to give her methods a fair shake. The visualization and reframing exercises in Chapter 8 have been mildly effective for me so far in shifting my mindset around phobias.

Overall, I'd give "Phobia Relief" a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's a well-researched, practical book that makes an excellent self-help guide for transforming not just phobias but your whole mindset. My only knocks are some minor editing errors and the repetitiveness between chapters which could have been tightened up. But those are small gripes for such an insightful, no-BS book on conquering fears through changing thoughts. If phobias are weighing you down, this book is definitely worth a read!

Kalliope Barlis's book "Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom" is a transformative manual that encourages readers to free themselves from the chains of unreasonable fears and phobias. The book promises to be both enlightening and liberating, and it has the support of notable people like Jack Canfield, the NY Times Bestselling author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul," and Dr. Richard Bandler, the Co-Founder of NLP.
Barlis takes a refreshingly simple approach. "Phobia Relief" stands out for its clarity and simplicity in a world that is frequently cluttered with elaborate explanations and intricate theories. As a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner, the author offers detailed instructions that anyone can follow to go from fear to freedom. It is education rather than therapy, with potentially emancipating outcomes.
The book refutes the idea that fears are innate, arguing that most fears are learned and can be unlearned. Barlis teaches readers how to control their thoughts by providing practical exercises for shrinking and reversing their fears. The emphasis on visualization is especially effective, encouraging readers to shift their focus from what they do not want to what they do want—an important step toward creating a life of purpose and fulfillment.
A transcript of a Kalliope client session is included in the book, which clarifies things for the reader. Her method transcends the cerebral, establishing a personal connection that appeals to readers. The workbook format encourages active participation, ensuring that readers don't just read about change but actively engage in the process.
"Phobia Relief" is an invitation to embrace life and meaning rather than just a manual. If you are looking for a way to empower yourself or overcome a fear that has been with you for a long time, Kalliope Barlis's book offers the support and direction you need to take control of your own life. You go from fear to freedom as you work through the exercises in this life-changing workbook, prepared to create the life you deserve. Thus, begin living the life you merit right now; Phobia Relief will assist you in doing so.
I will rate the flow and simplicity of this book five out of five.

Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom by Kalliope Barlis tackles the issues regarding fears and phobias by presenting readers with some explanations and ways to deal with them. As an expert in Phobia Relief and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Barlis repeatedly claimed that this book is for those who suffer from irrational fears and phobias. Although they may appear insignificant, these irrational phobias and fears can have an impact on people's confidence and social skills.

This book is very short and consists of three parts. The first part differentiates between fear and phobias and discusses the importance of channelling their purposes into motivation. In this part, the author also stresses the issue with our minds, in which our fears could be worsened by repetitively thinking about them. This situation relates to the second part, in which the author describes methods to turn fear into freedom by providing some exercises readers could do while reading. I absolutely love that it gives readers the opportunity to take a break and digest the points made. Finally, the author depicts how NLP is implemented on one of the author's clients in the third part of the book. Here, readers could see how the tips given in the previous chapters were applied to a client. Reading the session transcript would give them a clear picture of how to do the activities by themselves.

I applaud the author for the ability to tackle this issue in a simple and direct format. The language used was straightforward, and readers could easily understand the concept. Though I believe that the activities included are best practised with a therapist, I genuinely think that readers could get an overview to help with their concerns and worries.

In Phobia Relief, Kalliope Barlis discusses strategies to overcome fears and phobias that are preventing one from living life to the fullest. She includes several processes she has used on her patients, and she also provides a transcript from a patient, illustrating how her therapy helps people.

Going into this book, I was expecting to feel better about my fears as promised by the author, and unfortunately, that did not happen. I found it a bit irritating how the author kept repeating that many fears are irrational, and if you just don’t think about it, or shrink your fears visually in your head, they will magically go away. Her tone about this whole topic made me feel as though she doesn't take people’s fears seriously. For me, just not thinking about the thing that scares me the most in life isn’t going to make me feel better. Also, I felt that throughout the book, the author was trying to sell me her practice and convince me that her therapy would work. It almost felt like a sales pitch. These are the main reasons I am giving this book a 2 out of 5 stars.

Besides my main criticisms, there were also a few typos. Additionally, I noticed there were many run-on sentences, and the same words were being used several times in the same sentence. It was noticeable enough for me to bring my rating down even more. I strongly recommend that this book be revised once more.

On a positive note, I did learn more about fears and phobias from this book. I am happy to say that I can walk away with some new knowledge after reading this.

I don’t think I would recommend this to anyone. I did not feel any better about my fears, and the author made it clear that that is the main purpose of this book.

Thank you to Kalliope Barlis for shedding some light on this topic and taking the time to inform us about it.

As a medical professional, I know how psychologically complicated phobias are, as they are usually linked with old traumas and unpleasant memories. So when I started reading the book, I didn't have high expectations as I was thinking about how a book is going to solve a deep persistence problem like phobia, but I was surprised how the author presented eye-opening and amazing ideas on this topic.

I really liked the part about "looking at our phobia from a different perspective than ours", because it's not just the case with phobia but everything else. We always see our problems as unsolvable until we look closer or from a different point of view, then the solution becomes very clear and easy. I also liked the idea that "you don't have to figure out why, how, or when a fear began as long as you're ready to move on and get over it".

I also want to express how much I like the author's writing style and sense of humor. Although it's a non-fiction book, I still enjoyed it very much and didn't have any boredom. I liked the exercise and the practical advice for getting over fears in the book; it was so helpful.

In the end, I can say that this book was interesting, informative, and well-written. I highly recommend it for those who are struggling with phobias or those who want a better understanding of their inner fears.

When I first saw this book, I expected that it would be about some strange phobias and perhaps the solutions that were provided in the course of scientific developments. However, after reading it, I realized that this book explains fear and the power of the mind to control it.How we can train our brains with information and patterns that allow us to be a little freer from fear itself.

What I like about this book is how the author explains how to control our fears by visualizing them. I find this method easy to understand and apply. We can train our brains to use patterns to change the way we think and the way writers use these patterns in their writing.

I don't have anything I don't like, it's just that the exercises at the end of each chapter hold me back a little, so I choose to finish the book and come back to finish the exercises. And I feel there is another side that could be discussed more deeply, or add some examples of other, broader cases.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

A lot of helpful techniques and information for people dealing with phobias.
The first part of the book talks to you about your fears and the second part of the book walks you thru steps and exercises to try to overcome your phobias.
Snakes and Clowns were 2 that were mentioned most in this book.

I can see where this book would be helpful for those who suffer with this, but it just wasn't a book for me. The author is very knowledgeable and offers many tips and reassures the reader that they have helped many people over and over. This book is a very quick to read, and is laid out nicely. Thank you for choosing me to give it a review and while I don't have any phobias to cure, I will be sure to pass it along to others who may enjoy it more so.

Author Kalliope Barlis introduces the reader to the concept of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). In very simple language she describes the basic premise of NLP and the skills associated with it. At the very beginning, she warns readers that some fears are necessary for our safety. NLP is only meant to overcome the illogical fears that are interfering with a person’s life. With the help of examples, Barlis explains how people can use the skills of NLP to overcome their fears. The book’s brevity and its clarity are two factors in its favour. However, NLP is an offbeat therapeutic approach. To convince the reader of its efficacy, one would have expected the author to supply scientific data or references to scientific studies from multiple sources. The book is deficient in that aspect.

This book wasn't what I expected. I was really intrigued about phobias and phobia relief.

The first half of this book is literally, are you afraid? Well don't be!
Bam you're cured.

I almost stopped reading at that, but luckily I didn't.
The second half goes through steps and exercises to try.
Which the author assures the reader over and over and over that these have helped people
So who am I to argue.

Interesting book, quick read, will it help you with a phobia? I'm not sure.

Luckily I don't really have phobias, so I won't have to really find out.

A worthwhile book

A very informative self-help book, it distinguishes between the fear of necessary real threats and the irrational, illogical phobias that are problematic for a normal life. With a clear explanation of the human brain and neurons, it describes Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and how it helps overcome phobias. The book is very helpful in understanding and analyzing one's phobias and it is a good read.

Terrible book. For one, the writing is all over the place. None of the author’s thoughts are cohesive or follow each other. She keeps saying the same thing over and over and does not explain how to do the things she’s describing- shrink your fears… but how?

The exercises are ridiculous and vague - reverse memories, blink it black and white, spin a fear clockwise. None of it makes sense. This book is a complete waste of time.

Excellent work indeed. The author has tried to squeeze the author's knowledge and experience into the 113-page' book, which, obviously, is not sufficient to hold everything about the author’s practice and knowledge.
This book is wonderfully successful in distinguishing between the real fear required for survival and irrational fears and irrational phobias. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a concept, new to many and definitely to me, that offers a solution to overcome these fears and live a life without irrational fears and phobias. The author has provided a detailed explanation and steps on how to change the way you think so that you may realize what you think of as a threat is not as scary as in your thoughts. It excels in clarity and simplicity, enabling readers to grasp and implement techniques easily. The introduction of NLP to a beginner is made very simple and easy in comparison to other books available on the market. It is a stupendously compact book for a topic like NLP. The author has provided enough content for anybody to work on them and shrink their fear to face them without feeling the fear on a previous level.
This book contains many things that can only be understood by someone well aware of therapies. The book will be accessed by the general public, who may not have had any access to therapies til date.
Overall, this is a very informative and helpful book for all humankind, and it can definitely help anybody who has mild phobias and can work on them without going wild.

This book introduces Neuro-Linguistic Programming as it is being used for treating phobia. It contains both theory and practical parts.

I was unfortunately not able to treat my phobia with the book, but I could see some potential if it was made into an audiobook and the exercises were more detailed. Obviously, the actual therapy session with an expert would be the best option.

I was still left with some information and the book was also very positive and motivating. I managed to adopt and adapt some parts of it to use in daily life when I am confronted with my fears. Therefore, I don't regret reading it.
