After centuries of searching, the impossible has finally happened: Aegis, the emerald Dragon, has found his long-lost mate. The only problem? She’s a captive of the dark forces he’s allied himself with in order to meet his own selfish ends. But what they don’t know is that Aegis knows how to be a hero, it just takes the right motivation. Like saving the only person that has ever mattered to him.
The Opal dragon has been a prisoner for far too long, full of regrets and memories she doesn’t want to have. Then her knight in shining armor finally arrives in the shape of her childhood friend and the only man she’s ever been attracted to. Aegis. The same Aegis that happens to working openly for the side of evil. But in a sharp turn of events, Aegis rescues her and seeks out the other awakened dragons, showing that maybe even the baddest of boys can have a change of heart.
And despite a very rocky start with their newfound allies, for the first time ever, the two best friends are given a second chance at discovering love. But even though the attraction between them is hotter than dragon fire, it will take more than that to change the unruly emerald dragon. And time is quickly running out, because it’s clear the enemies of the awakened dragons are gearing up for the ultimate showdown.

Beautiful but complicated Aegis, out to hate everyone except Opal, currently the only female dragon and his childhood love. His past haunts him and made him as cruel and hard as he is. He must overcome his rages and lack of caring for others to win not only himself back but also Opal.
This was a very enjoyable story. I wasn't sure about Aegis at first (with him being on the wrong side and all) but he hasn't been all bad in the past so I had hope he could be better and it took some work but he got there. :)
Opal is a rare female dragon from the Opal gemstone. She grew up knowing Aegis from an early age and they were always close. His anger issues caused her to separate from him though and she was quickly captured by the dark oracle. When the dark oracle was frozen in sleep for centuries, Opal was too. Unfortunately, when the dark oracle woke up she was able to keep Opal as her captive.
Aegis is an Emerald dragon who has issues. His mother died giving birth to him and his father hated him because of it. Aegis was sold off at an early age and was bought by Opal's father but wasn't treated well. It didn't help that he came into his powers late and by then, he'd learned the hard lesson of never wanting to be powerless again.
Aegis has thought that Opal was dead these past centuries and figured he really had nothing good to live for. The last argument that he'd had with Opal (right before she left him and then supposedly died) has been prompted by something Zach/Onyx had said so Aegis transferred his hate and grief over the loss of Opal onto Zach. Aegis joined with the dark oracle for power but when he finds out that she has Opal captive, he goes to free her immediately. Aegis finds and releases Opal and they escape but the only safe place for them to flee to is the other dragons. Aegis isn't happy about it but he takes Opal there so she'll be safe, although he never plans for it to be long-term.
Opal cares about Aegis but she's always had an issue with his temper and inability to trust others. She wants friends and a life and when Aegis takes her to the mansion where the other awakened dragons and their mates are staying, she's very happy to be included in the group. Then there's just the difficulty of getting Aegis to realize that while Opal might accept him as a mate, she still would need others around...friends that would enrich her life. Aegis doesn't get this at first and has to struggle a bit to get into the right mind-frame but as he makes an effort, he starts doing better at it and actually making some friends as he wins Opal. Aegis does go a bit overboard on his personal journey of growth and it causes some issues when danger comes their way but (looking at it another way) it also may have just been the impetus that was needed to win the battle. In the end, everyone is safe and happy and Aegis and Opal are starting a well deserved HEA together.
This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Opal very much and thought she was a pretty cool heroine. Aegis was iffy at first but I found myself liking him more and more as things progressed. The story was very good and kept me well engaged through the end so I'd recommend it and the series. :)
2.75 Stars The dialog and flow was very stilted. This is my least favorite of the series. Though it has some redeeming qualities, it could have been the best. The humor was off. To much inner dialog. The whole thing seemed rushed and I was disappointed.
Questions answered about Aegis' dark and evil ways and why he was so into his Opal. "Emerald Dragon" was the last book in the series and it was worth learning why Opal ran from Aegis and why his insecurities affected his friendships with other Dragons. No Aegis was not all bad but it took the love of Opal to help him find the goodness that existed in himself.
Aegis, the Emerald dragon, has found Opal, his dragon mate, for whom he's spent years looking. Topaz, another dragon who's allied himself with the dark forces, has led Aegis to the dungeon where Opal has been held for centuries. While he rescues her and takes her to the one place she'll be safe, she lets him know that she won't mate him if he's not on the side of the other awakened dragons.
There's a very rocky start to the new alliance but Aegis soon proves he can change. He just needed the right motivation. When the dark oracle shows up, Aegis tries to sacrifice himself but things don't go as he planned.
This is a great ending to the Awakened Dragons/Gem Dragons series.
Yep, inwas one of the reviewers who wanted more of Aegis from the start. Thank God for Reader inspired books. This was amazing! Bolryder kept with Aegis' character and still managed a great love story. Opal was perfect for Aegis and I look forward to seeing them with the Viking Dragons!! WOOHOO!!
I didn't think i would have like Aegis, but after reading this book. I come to see he was misunderstood and lovable. He was great character to read about and yes, i would read the book again.
At the ending of Amethyst Dragon, Aegis came to see Dom to ask the dragon two questions. Was it true that he could speak to dead people? And had Opal ever come to him in death? We’d had glimpses of the Emerald Dragon in every story of this series. Over time it became apparent that perhaps he wasn’t the absolute bad guy that we might have thought him to be… something was changing in him and now it’s time for Aegis’ story to be told. And what an amazing story it is.
Although Aegis has done some terrible things, he’s also done some pretty heroic things… for a villain. Aegis is such an interesting character, for he truly was formed from his past. A past that included betrayals from those that should have loved and protected him from a very young age – they did not. There has only ever been one person he could depend on, Opal. Even though she was treated badly by her family as well, at least they’d had each other, until Aegis’ way of protecting Opal became more than she could stand. Years passed, and Aegis believed Opal lost to him – until he discovered exactly where she had been all those years apart. And the horror of that discovery perhaps pushed him a bit deeper into his overbearing protection mode.
The Emerald Dragon brings with it redemption, understanding, perhaps a love and mate for a lifetime… and a realization that all is not always what we see, sometimes we need to experience things from another’s viewpoint to truly understand their actions. If you’ve followed the Awakened Dragons series from the start, then this story is one that you truly need to read for yourself. No other’s opinion should color what you will discover about all of our dragons from this series.
The final story in this series brings closure, answers and discoveries – as well as the perfect segue way into the spin-off series that is now available starting with Steel from the Rent-A-Dragon series. What I am willing to say is that while at times Aegis was a royal pain in the butt, he also has his own rules, his own reasons for why he acts as he does. By the ending of this story I was totally in love with this bad boy dragon and envious of the love of his life, Opal. Together their future stretches out before them – and perhaps, occasionally they’ll let us in on their adventures.
I highly recommend this story and the entire series. You’ll fall in love with dragons and have the adventures you’ve always craved with them and their mates.

I am disappointed. Like really, really disappointed. In 5 previous books Emerald dragon was a villain, but with some morals and soft spots, mostly doing evil things, but at the same time, doing nice things too. I really liked his calculated, reasonable choices and his moral "rules". Unfortunately, none of it was really explained and cultivated. In previous books it was also mentioned that he hasn't been the same since Opal, so in this book we get to meet the famous Opal. What a disappointment. She left him because he was punching people and protecting her. Excuse me? And then for most of the book she wanted him to change who he is, to become a Peacekeeper instead of being the Protector he is. Yuck. I didn't like Opal. I still don't like her. Well excuse me, but if your best argument is "You didn't ask me what I wanted" then it is void. If you weren't such a wuss, you would have talked to him and told him what you wanted not just ran away from him. Or should he went around you and asked - do you want food, do you want to go napping, do you need to use the potty? What is she, a frigging three-year-old? Her argument is void. And it was really stupid of her to blame him and only him for everything that went wrong. The way I see it - she did it to herself. Just as with Amethyst - I am sorry Aegis got stuck with her. So sorry.
And that is another thing. The author has become sloppy. She was beginning to be sloppy in the fourth book, when she forgot to explain a lot of stuff and when heroine was in danger, the Diamond's ring didn't activate protection to his mate. Then the fifth book was sloppy all around. No ring powers, no real development, no connection between the issues. As I said before - the fifth book was the worst ever. And now here, in sixth, sloppy again - no ring protection powers, no real sustenance to the story , confusing and disgusting heroine, then suddenly there is this "dragon hearts like Lana" thing that was not explained before (well okay, to be fair, the previous book sucked and Lana made me want to bang my head against the wall, so maybe in my effort to skip everything about Lana, I might have missed this, but still - an explanation would have been nice). Like where did you get that term?! Sloppy. Since book 4, it says one thing in previous book, but something completely different in the next. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
Giving A Chance To A Bad Boy Dragon Shifter and His Dragon Mate - Everyone deserves a chance and a loving home, even a villain with anger and disdain in his heart, but one who wants to love and protect his mate no matter what. He just needs to see that there is good in the world and that he can make a difference. This is an interesting story about a very difficult and complicated person who still has by his side a good and loving woman trying to find a way to redeem him. It was really fascinating to have a female dragon as a protagonist for a change and see her dragon and powers in play. The inevitable final showdown wasn't so unexpected as could have been hoped for. This is a final book in this series of the first awakened dragons. I am looking forward to read more about the new dragons as soon as I figure out a proper reading order.
Update on the reading order of the next series after this one, Awakened Dragons Series: - Rent-A-Dragon Series - Date-A-Dragon Series - Awakened Sea Dragons Series - Dragon Guard of Drakkaris Series
I am so in love with Aegis! I was so excited to read this book and when I started I couldn't put it down! I had high expectations for his story and I wasn't disappointed! We had meet Aegis, the Emerald dragon and official bad guy through out the series, we knew he wasn't totally bad because he did helped the other dragons a few times. I really do love him. This huge powerful alpha dragon that has been a villain for most of the series and he is also ....a virgin!!!! " There is only one woman for me. There was no need for experience without her" Ahhhhh!!!! You see, Aegis and Opal grew up together and he always knew she was his mate. Opal?! not so much. She is a rare female dragon captured by the dark Oracle for her powers and blood until Aegis finds her, released her and takes her to the only safe place he knows, the mansion with the other awakened dragons and their mates. This was a fantastic read packed with action, adventures and romance. Even a few hilarious scenes that got me lol. Highly recommended
This is the last book in the Awakened Dragons series and I think it was a fitting end. Just as with book 5, this book features a tortured hero who already has a difficult relationship with the heroine. Normally, I don't enjoy romances where the hero and heroine already know each other, but it works in the context of this story. I also liked the way the author brought in the hero's relationship with the other dragons. Having the story be about more than the romance made it richer.
Overall, this series is a light read. There are terrible things that have happened in the characters' pasts but the author doesn't go into excruciating detail. Between the comfortable writing and the short read time (about 2.5 hours per book), I found myself picking one up every evening after work. I will probably continue to do so until I run through all of her series.
This last book of the series was absolutely awesome. I couldn't put it down until I finished it at 3am. It was that good. The book had me laughing all the way through. Aegus was just a fun character to read about. This book was unlike the previous books in a good way. The writing was better, both the hero and heroine were great, the previous characters had huge amazing parts and integrated Aegus into the family, and it was just less fluffy than the other books. It definitely had me in tears at the end and this is a book I would reread. I read every word. The other books I kinda skimmed due to annoying heroines or obvious endings. But like the author writes in the beginning, you must read the other books first.
I absolutely love these books the whole series I have also read the bear service all of them they are the best thing to be reading anytime anywhere in the house out of the house you are fantastic and I think you’re fine where are you at home are you alone just want a quiet time are you just a bit lonely this makes it worthwhile I would recommend this book to my book club all five of them from the Teens to the elderly. PS. And your last book you’ve got a drag in that house I was so looking forward to seeing him find someone to we consider and continue number seven and that series I didn’t look forward to your writing and have a great imagination and I think god for it.
Aegis and Opal's story was hilarious and I couldn't imagine missing this unique book!!!
This series is one of the most riveting, creative and unique collection of books that I've ever had the pleasure and privilege of reading!!! I'm recommending this book and series for your own personal library to enjoy in the comfort of your home to read anytime you want! When you start, you will find yourself sitting on your favorite chair reading about these amazing characters and waiting for the next installment with bated breath!!!
I've read so many different books of male dragons looking for human mates, but this was the first time I was able to enjoy a story about one seeking a female dragon as a mate. I can say from my perspective, I truly enjoyed it, especially when it came to the love scenes when their inner dragons joined in sharing their own idealic moments...lovely and quite touching...a true mating of the species. I also enjoyed the way the female came to her mate's defence in battle. Do yourself a favor and make this book your next read if sexy male dragons bring you pleasure.
I have finished the Awakened Dragons Series and they all six novels deserve a 4-star rating at the least! Hope dragons Aegis and Opal get their own story at some point. Loving this author.
Awakened Dragons, Rent-A-Dragon, Date-A-Dragon, Awakened Sea Dragons, Dragon Guard of Drakkaris. Separate series of dragon books that are menage. They come before the Awakened dragons but are completely different and don’t need to be read in order to enjoy the other dragons. Dragons of New York. (Authors recommended series order).
Finally! Emerald's story. And, we get to find out about Opal. I adored Opal. Soft. Gentle. Sweet. Peace loving. But,do not threaten her family or friends because she will take out the baddest all by herself. Awesome character. Not to mention, also my birthstone so I have a bit of a soft spot. How and why she can love the pretentious, arrogant, self indulgent git called Emerald . . . Well that is what the story is all about, so I will let you read it. After you have read the rest of the series first though. You will enjoy it so much more.
Another great addition to this awesome dragon series, but this time the fated couple are both dragons. Absolutely love this power couple but the journey to their unity is pure creativity!! Aegis is pure badass but I have to say my favorite part of him is his interactions with Luc! That's the stuff that makes a woman swoon! Grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine and curl up with this book! It's guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face! This voluntary review is based against a KU copy.
Oh my gosh... I know that Aegis was the antagonist/villian for most of the series but who knew he would be such an innocent cinnamon roll?! He's literally too pure for this world... I'll never look at him the same LOL
And that whole tsundere thing he has going on made me awwwee through the whole book. Definitely my favorite character by far - and its not even because emerald is my birthstone! Can't wait to see him in the later series
I'm really enjoying this series. I loved how the in this book we found the reason why Emerald is the way that he is. It is for a good reason, or reasons I should say. It was nice to see Opal, his Opal finally found. And while Emerald was finding his way to be the Emerald that Opal that she wanted, he became the Emerald that they both needed. this was a great book.
Emeralds's story was the best one of all. Which says a lot, since loved and throughly enjoyed every one of them. Hopefully Ms. Bolryder will continue the series at another time. Meanwhile while I'm going to read the Rent A Dragon series. I have no doubt that it will be as entertaining, and sexy as the Awaken Dragons. Ok, time to start Steel, the Metal Dragon's book.
This was a wonderful ending to series. I had always wanted to know Aegis and Opal's story from the beginning of this series. You can fall for the bad guy in this one. So happy that it ended the way that it did.
I really enjoyed this story. It was fast paced, sweet, and had some action. I was curious to see how Terry would redeem the Emerald dragon, and am pleased with how it turned out. This was a good ending to the this series.
I have read all this Awaken Dragon Series. I totally can't get enough of these ancient dragons. The stories are very interesting and would highly recommend this series. Can't wait for the next in your Dragon line. A must read you won't be disappointed!!
Aegis is arrogant, uncaring and on the wrong side of right. Had been through the whole awakened dragons series. But this book explains all his decisive & confusing actions. This powerful Dragon will have to work hard to win back what, and who, he has lost. Great story.
