But after an uncomfortably close call, Detective Steven Rothwell takes it upon himself to stay with her--and the young client she has taken under her wing. A protector at heart, he's not about to let Haley fight this battle alone.

Another series comes to an end... and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've been anticipating this book-- wanting to read it so bad!-- but now that it's over, I'm sad to say "goodbye" to these characters.
As I said, I have been really looking forward to reading Haley's book and learning her story, and I'm happy to say that Chasing Secrets did not disappoint in the least. In my opinion, Lynette Eason's writing just keeps getting better and better! I can't wait to read her next series!! The first book of which (Oath of Honor) is due to release in January, by the way! :D
This is a fast-paced, suspense-filled, action-packed novel that I was able to finish over a weekend. It drew me in from page one and kept me guessing at the identity of the villain. I always enjoy trying to figure out "who done it", but while I enjoy figuring it out, I also really like when an author surprises me. I kept guessing and second-guessing who the bad guy could be... and I got really close too! But I still wasn't really expecting it when the true criminals were revealed.
I love these characters! Getting to "hang out" with folks from the previous books is always great and seeing them react to the new love interest in Haley's life was fun. While the attraction is pretty much instant, the romance between Haley and Steven isn't really over the top and doesn't take precedence over the mystery/suspense aspect of the story. And I must say I especially like the elements of forgiveness and healing woven into the story. It reminded me very much of the story behind Matthew West's song, Forgiveness -- so powerful!
I'm so glad I have all four of these books on my bookshelf now so I can go back and visit with them whenever I want! I'm sure I'll be doing that fairly soon. ;)
I received a free copy of this book through the Revell Reads Blog Tour Program in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
If you love romantic suspense, and still did not pick up a Lynette Eason, you are surely missing out. Lynette always delivers page-turning, keeping-me-guessing-till-the-end suspense with a clean romantic story which is secondary to the suspense but still sweet and realistic. And then she adds interesting, lovable characters.
Haley's back story was heartbreaking. I enjoyed Haley as character. I think she and Maddy was my favourite of the 4, but they each have a place in my heart. I would actually love seeing this series on tv. I enjoyed the relationship development between Steven and Haley. I loved the interaction between the 4 ladies, bringing in humour to give the reader some breathing time between all the suspense!
Oh and the suspense! Lynette always keeps me guessing and catches me by surprise when she reveals the bad guy...
There was also a clear message about the power of freedom in forgiveness and subsequent bitterness of not forgiving.
This was a great ending to a great series. Recommended to fans of Terri Blackstock, Irene Hannon and Dani Pettrey.
4.5 stars Yet another book I've neglected to review here for much too long. I was in the middle of moving when I read it and it wasn't easy to get to writing the review up, but this story was able to hold my attention and stick in my memory despite chaos and way too much going on. Elite Guardians has been a favorite series and I wasn't happy to see it end, especially since each book seemed to be better than the one before it.
Haley was a great character and I'd been looking forward to her book since the beginning. I loved the touch of Ireland in the story as they race to keep her safe from the threat that killed her parents when she was a kid.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free copy. A positive review was not required.
I'm not huge into suspense, but this was good. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. It was dramatic, but not too scary. I thought the romance was really sweet, and I loved the Christian element.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pre Teens- One Star New Teens- One Star Early High School Teens- Two Stars Older High School Teens- Three Stars My personal Rating- Three Stars (and a half) {Add a ½ star for older girls interested in law enforcement} This is the last of this series and it's bittersweet to say the least. I've really enjoyed seeing all these tough women take down baddies and fall in love. Since the first book, I've been looking forward to learning Haley's story--and was a story it is. While this novel did take on a more sensitive role with all the mentions of murders of children and minors, I knew that Haley (& Steven too) would find out who was behind it all. I love reading Christian suspense because there's always a hope of good in all the well done books, like this one! :)
Come back tomorrow for a special release day interview with the author, Lynette Eason!
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this honest review.
Whoo! That was an intense, action-packed end to the Elite Guardians series!
Over the course of the first three books in this series, you didn't see or hear much of Haley, and I think that's why I wasn't initially super interested in her story. But, of course, I had to finish the phenomenal series. And I'm so glad I did!
We find out that Haley is so much more multifaceted than we thought. I immediately loved her character. She's so unique and complex. I loved her strength and independence, but also how those two character traits weren't taken too far, as I often find them to be in modern fiction. Steven was also an intriguing character. While I didn't like as much as some of the other male protagonists in this series, he was still great. I loved his protectiveness, and also, his interactions with Quinn were pretty awesome . . . Nobody can keep Quinn on his toes like this guy can.
The plot was just the right speed, keeping my interest, but still had slower scenes. While there were a few story issues I had, they weren't enough to diminish my enjoyment of this book. The MCs' character arcs were so good, and the ending totally catches you by surprise. It was fun to catch glimpses of previous main characters throughout, such as Olivia, Maddy, Quinn (who is still my favorite character), and Katie. The humor sprinkled throughout to lighten things up was spot on, and Eason's unique writing style I've come to love was perfect.
Overall, I really enjoyed this final installment on the Elite Guardians series! You won't want to miss it!
CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 16+ for violence.
a re-read I enjoyed via audio book. Fantastic narration by Rachel Dulude -- she got the Irish accents just right. :-)
----
Romantic suspense with an Irish flair? I am so in! (And kudos to the author for getting the Irish accent right. Scottish and Irish aren't interchangeable, just so you know.)
I'm sad that this is the last of the Elite Guardians series -- love these kick-butt heroines who don't wait to be rescued, though they are smart enough to accept backup when necessary. And Steven fits the bill perfectly -- in both the official and romantical departments.:-) I'm still giddy thinking about Steven and Haley. Eason has a marvelous talent for developing believable romance in the midst of the chaos danger brings. It never feels hurried and there are some great soul bearing scenes as well as faith building ones.
The suspense is sublimely complicated. Enough to make an armchair sleuth's head spin. Just when I thought I was onto something...I wasn't. I love when a suspense plot keeps me on my toes right to the very end and this one sure did! And a wide range of secondary characters liven things up all the more making this a seriously rabid-page-turning read.
Though Chasing Secrets is the last book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. However, if you're an Elite Bodyguard fan you'll enjoy the amount of 'page time' previous heroines and heroes receive in this final story. And the epilogue is sweet perfection!
Lynette Eason has done it yet again! I have read and enjoyed all of her books to date and Chasing Secrets was no exception! I have been waiting for Haley's story ever since first meeting her in Always Watching and I was absolutely fascinated with her story from the first page on! Haley and Steven were both such great characters, plus I absolutely loved that Haley has horses (just like me!) I am a big fan of back story so not only was I thrilled to finally get Haley's, hers as well as Steven's added so much depth and richness to the story! The suspense in this one was oh, so good, just as in all of Lynette's books! I seriously can't begin to describe the total awesomeness that is this book, it was everything I had hoped for and more! I think Without Warning is still my personal favorite of the Elite Guardians series, but Chasing Secrets is very, very close to being tied with Without Warning as my favorite! I absolutely loved every minute that I spent reading Chasing Secrets, these are characters that I know I will find myself thinking about for a long time! I highly recommend Chasing Secrets (grab yourself a copy and read it ASAP, you won't be sorry you did!) I cannot wait to read Lynette's next release!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. No review required. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own!
My Thoughts: I've enjoyed each book in this series, and this one was no exception. This book was fast-paced, and I found myself not wanting to put it down. In fact, I only did when I fell asleep.
I loved how Haley's past came into play. For the last three books, she's been in the background, so seeing her front and center was great. And once again, I loved how I was kept guessing the entire book.
I'm rather sad to see this series come to an end. It was different than anything else I'd read and I really enjoyed it.
I received a copy of the book for free from the publisher to review. I was not required to like the book, only share my honest opinion. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recommended to fans of Irene Hannon, Lynette Easton, Dani Pettrey, Dee Henderson
My favorite part of this book was the plot with Haley, Zeke, and Micah. So heartwarming! But the main plot, with Haley finding her family, was also great. Steven seemed a little less important than the love interests have been for the last few books, but I still liked him.
I haven't read the others in this series but this one blew me away. I loved it from beginning to end. Haley Callaghan is a bodyguard so she's a tough heroine. The pages just fly by and you'll love every minute of it.
Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason is a fabulous contemporary Christian crime suspense. It is book four in the Elite Guardians series and is a thrilling end to what has been a fantastic series. Cold cases are unearthed as someone wants to finish what they started years ago. There is an exciting cat and mouse chase as the time is ticking by. Greed and jealousy raise their ugly heads. It is never good when they rule lives. Holding grudges hurts us far more than the other person. “Hating him doesn’t hurt him, it hurts me.” We need to let go and live free. Freedom comes when we forgive. If we cannot do it in our strength, we need to ask God for His help. If we know God, we can have a peace that passes understanding. “She’d found God… and had discovered a new sense of peace and acceptance.” God infuses us with His peace in spite of our circumstances. Family is important. The Elite Guardians function as a family – united by love and not blood. I have really loved the Elite Guardians series. It has been highly entertaining and impossible to put down. I love Lynette Eason’s novels.
Chasing Secrets is another great addition to the Elite Guardians series. Filled with lots of action, interesting characters, and compelling backstories, it is a novel that can be picked up and enjoyed even if you haven’t read the other books in the series.
Haley and Steven were intriguing characters, especially Haley. I’ve been wondering about her past for some time now and it was very eye opening to find out more about her.
The author did a good job of keeping me in suspense about who the villain was. I had my ideas about it, and I was close, but she did surprise me. It was also great to revisit the other characters from the previous novels. This story is fast-paced and a the series is a definite must for fans of suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Heart tugging, mystery suspense with lite clean romance. Strong characters will a female heroine that is likable, as well as believable as an Elite Guardian (Bodyguard). The story moves along just at the right pace. The audiobook’s narrator, RACHEL DULUDE, does a superb job of nailing Haley’s Irish accent, alternating it with the American characters in the story. The narration was a treat to listen too.
Enjoyable plot - beautiful narration. Suitable to read as stand alone. My only minor criticism is the cover. Wished it wasn’t so plain - really doesn’t lend much story plot detail, character, or background.
Chasing Secrets is book four in the Elite Guardians series by Lynette Eason. Lynette Eason has written her best story yet! Your heart will be pounding. Elite Guardians is a story that is packed with action, adventure, suspense and so much more. All the way from South Carolina to West Ireland because of a picture. This is a fabulous book that is sure to have you wanting more and more until the very end. I received a copy of this book from Revel. This review is my honest opinion. 4 stars! So be sure to order your copy today. Remember it also makes a great gift!
The opening of Chasing Secrets was amazing! I loved how the action started right away. I also thought Haley had the most interesting history out of all the elite guardians. It made for an intriguing read as I tried to piece together whodunit. And boy was I way off. Completely didn't see that (or should I say who) coming. This was a good end to a fantastic series.
I'm not sure but what this was my favourite of the series! I really enjoyed getting to know Hayley better after 'meeting' her early in the series (love her 'thing' about always having M&Ms!), and love the way she put her faith into action, especially with the teens. Steven was a nice surprise as well. I wasn't sure how he would fit in with 'the group' of Elite Guardians and their respective sweethearts, but somehow it just worked. I liked that Steven was trying to live out his faith, but that he was shown to have a blind spot or two (don't we all have something we're working on with God to improve upon?), and how he eventually understood that he needed to let go of a few things in order to move forward. That's the characters on a 'personal note', but the story! WHOA! Within the first few chapters, I felt like we were almost dealing with 4 different 'mysteries', and seeing how they all came together was actually very intriguing. I thought I'd pegged 'whodunnit' a few times, but nope. THAT was a complete surprise to me. 4.5 stars
This one was great, too! Honestly, I really enjoyed this series as a whole!
Characters: Haley was so cool! And her backstory and everything...wow! Steven was great! I would have liked to see a little more his character growth on page, but he was a great guy! Zeke! I loved Zeke and Micah! And again, everyone was great! And I love Quinn... he's probably my favorite...again, don't ask me why. Not sure...I love Quinn and Gray and that's just the way it is...lol...
Themes: Not holding onto hate because it only hurts you. So true! I loved this theme and would have liked, like I mentioned, to see Steven come more fully to that conclusion on page... but other than that, I ...no complaints.
Language: N/A
Romance: One or maybe two kisses... again nothing super detailed.
Overall: I enjoyed this read! And the twist that it was Haley that someone was after and Steven wasn't her client was nice. I liked that about Moving Target, too! But the series as a whole is great, and I am so glad I read it! Now, back to my physical tbr...lol...
I’m back!!! Wow, I have not posted in quite a while. Why? Well, first things first, because my family from out of town came for the week/weekend and it was just crazy. Secondly, I have been under the weather. But, that is over now and I am back! So, I have read two of the other books in this series, which is the Elite Guardians. Those books are Always Watching and Without Warning. I haven’t been able to read Moving Target but I really want to because I like the main characters in that book. This book had an automatic good rating. That is because the main character has the same name as me! That also means that she is automatically awesome!!! This book was really fascinating and suspenseful. All mystery lovers will really like this book—and the rest of the books in this series. Unfortunately, mystery isn’t my favorite genre. However, I still enjoyed this book. The cover is intriguing. I really like all of the covers in this series. They really set the mood for the book. I am going to give it 4 stars. To all mystery and suspense readers, you should definitely read this book! I am going to give it…4 stars. I feel like if I read this book while home alone late at night I would not be able to go to sleep. Lynette Eason is wonderful at writing suspenseful novels! Luckily, I read most of this book with others at home and while it was sunny.
Another action-packed story in this exciting series! Book four features Haley, a member of the bodyguard team with a mysterious past, and Steven, a new detective in town who has returned to help out his ailing father. A 25 year old cold case and a recent unsolved murder in town brings these two together, plus a dangerous stalker is on the hunt with Haley as his target.
Plenty of action, building in suspense, and laced with a bit of romance, this book kept me up late at night. It reads fine as a stand alone, with some tiny recaps from the other stories to fill in. Haley is a courageous character, working at the teen center to help share hope and God's love with troubled youth, hoping to "use her own past to help those in the present." She is a good example to Steven and encouragement to let go of his own bitterness and forgive. They are both committed to serve and do justice, and shine as they reach out to a family in need. Faith, hope, and a few romantic moments add an extra layer of tenderness to this tale, softening the darkness from the violent and sinister elements.
Recommend to fans of mysteries and crime dramas, with some faith and romance. 4.5 stars
(An e-book was provided by NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.)
Haley Callaghan has been a survivor all of her life, accepting both heartache and accomplishment with an amazing amount of compassion. Underneath her admirable composure and proficiency, troubling images flash in intermittent nightmares, surfacing anew when her life is threatened during a heated encounter with a known criminal. The professional bodyguard is now guarded by a host of protectors, one of which is a very handsome detective.
Detective Steven Rothwell is quick to admit, at least to himself, that Haley Callaghan intrigues him. Bold, intuitive, and confident, she exhibits incredible kindness towards a young teen and his family, whom she barely knows. When the incident becomes volatile, Steven becomes privy to information that has the potential to change Haley's life forever. Suddenly, life and love are on the line as Haley and Steven race to uncover family secrets.
"Chasing Secrets" has a wonderful cadence; thrilling to be sure, but tempered by an undercurrent of satisfying conversations between two wonderful characters, whose strengths and weaknesses complement each other beautifully in this deftly plotted suspense.
Haley is just as tough as the other members of her team, if not more so, since she spends most of the book wounded yet not taken down. There's a lot going on with the story, between Haley's past, her bodyguard job, and her personal life helping kids, not to mention Steven's past and his current case that has no apparent connection with Haley's problems. With all that happening, the story certainly moves quickly, and as I have come to expect from Eason, it's non-stop action.
It definitely wasn't my favorite of the series--it didn't have the novelty I felt in the first book (the introduction to the women bodyguards), nor the out-of-the-box plot of the third. However, I think a good part of my lower level of enjoyment was a result of distractingly enticing non-reading activities, and the slightly less unique plot couldn't compete. I will say, the romance progressed fairly realistically compared to other suspense books, and there were some good thoughts on forgiveness.
Thank you Revell for providing a free book; I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.
Lynette Eason continues to put out top notch Christian suspense, and seems to get better with each book she writes. My only complaint about her books, is they all seem more geared to women readers, with most of her books having only women on the cover, and revolving around a female character..... but I still love her books.
This has been another awesome series by her, and it sadly ends with this 4th book in the series, Chasing Secrets. It is quite different than her other books, as she starts the book out in Ireland 25 years in a prologue chapter before the actual story starts, and the events in Ireland effect the main character and events of the rest of the book.
Chasing Secrets brings back some of the same characters from the rest of the books, along with several new ones, most of them likable......some not so much.
I am struggling through a book right now by a suspense author I used to love. There is no action, and it is difficult to get through. This book is far from that. It has non-stop action and drama, and a lot of surprises. The book is definitely unpredictable, other than the romance angle......which even this confirmed bachelor enjoyed.
I started this book on my lunch break at work yesterday and also read it on my second break, and it was very difficult to put it down and go back to work both times. Immediately after getting home and eating supper, I dove back into it and didn't put it down until I finished it..... then read a few favorite parts again. This is one of Eason's best books, and that is saying a lot considering how great her other books are.
As part of the story, Haley takes an interest in two boys with no father, and the events surrounding them add even more to the story, and I loved the conclusion of that part.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. Christian in content, great characters, awesome non-stop suspense, and yeah.....even the romance, which wasn't gushy or overdone. Eason has another book she can rightly be proud of, and again shows why she is one of my top favorite authors.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Lynette is just wow! I couldn't put this book down. I enjoyed it it to the fullest! Wonderful plot that had me biting my nails to see what would happen to Haley next! Too many juicy secrets to be sure! I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters. I'm hooked for sure on this author. She sure knows how to draw her readers in! I guarantee you'll not want to come back from the book. There wasn't anything about this book that I didn't like. It was all good! I highly recommend this book My thanks to Netgalley. No compensations were received and all opinions are my own
This is the fourth and final book of the exciting and action filled Elite Guardians series. Haley's story is a great ending to the very entertaining books about four tough capable women who work as bodyguards in Columbia, South Carolina. Each of them has a unique background but all come together to work as a unit. Each of the four depend on each other and their faith to get through life. They are like a family that watches out for each other.
Haley Callaghan was born in Ireland and lived in Belfast growing up, mostly on the streets. This tough life has shaped her into an independent strong woman. Before working with the bodyguard agency, she worked with the Irish intelligence agency, G2. Now, she also supports a teen center for kids who have a tough family life. Her life is turned upside down when someone from Ireland shows up in South Carolina with news about her family background that she doesn't know but eventually remembers.
Stephen Rothwell grew up in Columbia but moved to Chicago to fight crime. His younger brother died when they were young boys and he has never been able to get past the pain. Leaving town was supposed to help but really hasn't. Steven returns home to live with his parents when his father is diagnosed with cancer. He is working with the police department as a detective and is a partner to Detective Quinn Holcombe. Quinn is married to Maddie McKay, one of the partners of the Elite Guardian Agency. Steven is instantly attracted to Haley's spunk and beauty. When it becomes apparent that Haley is in danger, Steven wants to protect her. But it takes the whole agency to keep different ones safe in the craziness that is going on.
This is another action packed page turner in the series. Lynette Eason keeps the suspense constantly going as one thing after another happens to keep the situation tense. The characters are real and likable and I will miss reading about the folks that I feel like I know. I recommend reading this book and all of the the books in the series, perferably in order.
Thanks to NetGalley and Revell for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.
