Okay, it takes a lot for me not to like erotica, but I just could not like this. There were many stories, but I liked maybe 2? And even then, I didn't love them. I am not against anthologies or short stories - they can be very powerful. My problem with this collection is that I wasn't drawn into any of the stories. Most were extremely short (around 5 pages) and it seemed that was not enough time to draw me in. Sure, each one usually had one major sex scene, but I didn't feel a part of it. I wasn't swept up and I was totally detached, which made the hot/steamy factor drop to about zero.
I know it's hard to write a good scene and get people involved with a short scene, but people do it all the time on literotica.com. I think maybe this book's problem was that they tried to throw in a plot and character development and a hot scene and a conclusion in 5 pages. It's not enough time, and they all worked against each other detracting from each story as a whole. They would have been better off just focusing on the sex scene and make you care about the characters through their action. That or they should have had longer stories to draw the reader in.
Mahlet, you said you had never read Zane before so you were curious to see what I thought. As an FYI, he didn't WRITE these stories, he only edited, so I can't speak for his writing.
I was very very disappointed and I kept hoping the next story would be better but they were all just as bad as the last. They didn't even seem to be trying, they were just not well written at all. I liked Zane's but I just couldn't get into the other stories at all. I think I might just need to stick to her stories.
50 Shades of Grey put me in the mood for more erotic fiction. I recalled reading books by Zane about 5 or 6 years ago-maybe even longer. Zane was an excellent writer or at least to my 20 year old something mind she was. I do recall not loving her anthologies and eventually I stopped reading her work all together.
Nothing has changed. I struggled to plow through this mess of an anthology. I did not find the majority of the stories erotic or even entertaining. It just felt like some piece together words with an Asian theme. Yes, you read that correctly. Each story had an Asian reference. It was a requirement, I guess. I won't spend much time on this review. I'll just repeat what I always say about terrible stories or in this case anthologies: I dislike my rule that once I pick up a book I have to see it through and may change that rule in 2013. I also am thankful for my local library because I can turn this in first thing in the morning and didn't shell out a dime for it. If you just have to read this book, I strongly suggest you check it out of the library and if you love it, buy it.
Im going to be honest... this book was a major dissapointment. Like bad porn in paper format... it lacked any kind of character development, sensuality, mild humor... all the good things I like in erotica. I got this book for less than 3$ and when I was done with it I was MAD that I had even spent that much. I dont know WHY all the women I know worship Zane because her writing is just crap. Her writings are just chock FULL of typical idiotic and sometimes just plain old offensive sterotypes of both black/ African American and asian people. Of the stories in this anthology, NONE of them were worth keeping the book or even reading over.... it was just people randomly popping up to bang each other.... in a very "Hey stranger... I know we literally just met two seconds ago but... you busy? Want to kill time?". Badly written raunch in my opinion.
Not the worst but definitely could have been much better. I had to force myself through most of the stories which is never good. Unless you're just into Asian love, I wouldn't recommend this one at all. Sorry Zane...still love ya though!
From ordinary to extraordinary plots, this collection of short stories that include Asian men/women is simply good like honey. Even though there were some stories that I liked more than others, I really enjoyed this book after long periods of not reading it.
This is an ok read, but sometimes when you read a book you might not be in a place to understand it @ the time, so you might read it again later and get a different outcome.
