The Bitches of Enchantment

PROLOGUE

When last we left our fierce princesses--rulers of the United Kingdom of Enchantment, they had found themselves in grave peril. Facing an unseen enemy, an unknown nemesis. Dare I say, a villain. Not one of mine, of course. No, whoever was behind the spell that stole the memories of my princesses, was far darker than any my imagination had ever conceived. This villain--villains?--was far more cruel than a stepmother, more heartless than a greedy queen, more diabolically patient than a wicked witch. Whoever had cast the spell had a sinister power the likes of which I had never seen in my homeland.

But if you live long enough, as I have, you hear whispers on the wind of such darkness. Soulless creatures who will stop at nothing to destroy anything--or anyone--who blocks their crooked path. I have heard of such villains. Others have written about them. They exist in the shadows until some thread of their own story unravels, and they seek out a new narrative.

Not that I know who is behind the undoing of my heroines. If I did, I would have given them the tools to fight the evil. I would have written them their happy endings. Alas, I know not what will become of them now in this strange new world. I know only that between them, they are more powerful than they ever realized. And that the one destined to save them all need only to remain steadfast and strong to rise to victory. Then maybe--just maybe--this won’t be the end of their tale.

However, the powerful clap of hoof beats, the drumming of soldiers approaching, and the smell of treachery in the air surrounding my tiny cottage as I write this, tells me that it could be the end of mine.

The sequel to the first, Bitches of Everafter, picked up right where it left off with tongue lashing quibs and crazy magical ladies. It was a playful return to an easy and fun read.

There is nothing negative to say about this story. The only caution I suggest is this is a dark twist on the classic fairytales, and with that twist comes colorful language.

Other than the language, it is a tickling treat to read such a colorful and different take on the classic fairytales. It is fun, it is clever, it is wild and original. Everyone who has a sense of humor should check this story out.

The best part of the story is that it evolves. The characters are constantly changing. Red Riding Hood, the first villain of the tale, changes in ways I never expected. It keeps the characters present and lively.

The Bitches of Entitlement
Aura and Bella come to get Jack in the middle of the night but don’t tell him what’s going on. Nor do they tell him where they’re going. Robin looks at the fallen tree and places a blanket over Snow. He knows she’s dying and feels guilt that he wasn’t there to protect her. He thinks of the way she pardoned him back in Enchatment and makes a new vow that whoever did this will have hell to pay. Granny starts to come too, and Red waits for tink to come back. Outside she sees the amber eyes of a cat and sends her wolf Fang out for a snack. Robin calls and tells her the news that someone is being held in detention. She tells them to hold them there as she receives a bottle tied with a pink ribbon that says “Drink Me” and vows to have their heads. (She hates pink and who’d dare leave something outside her door?) Outside Red sees the amber eyes again and a big grin.

Aura and Bella cut Jack’s ties and then take him to Granny’s house. When he gets inside something knocks him out cold. Eric calls Robin one night and tells him he has a girl at the station but he doesn’t know who she is. Robin immediately recognizes her as Tink (hie ex’s assistant). He tells him to just keep her there and he’ll make a call. Later we see him with Rapunzel and Cinderella. Cinderella is interrogating Hansel (who she use to be with in Enchantment) and torturues when he said he’d never do anything to Snow because he cared for her (with a sweing needle). Robin tells Rapunzel about his idea and she says looks like he has a call to make and will have to take one for the team. (This story is going backwards).

Cheshire tells Red he’s come for Snow’s heart, but she says she hasn’t got it yet. She’s starteing to have her doubts about working with him, Alice, and the Hatter. At first, she thought they just anted the downfall of the princesses. He tells her if she doesn’t give him Snow’s heart he’s coming for hers right before Fang chases him off. Jack and Raphunzel hear a noise and find a bear with the head of a deer stuck in the doorway. Its joined shortly by a fox with the head of an owl and an assortment of other bizzare combination creatures that have come to pay their respects to Snow. Snow once told them a story about a mad scientist in therapy Rapunzel says but no one believed her. Then there’s another noise. It’s Beast. Jack is lead to the room where Snow is and told to iss her. Not believing in magic he tries to perform CPR on her insidead. When this doesn’t work he thinks what the hell and goes for it.

Red goes out for a walk in the woods and comes face to face with Marianne pointing a gun at her. Marianne says its bad enough she works her husband to death now she’s come to therhouse. Red takes pleasure in telling her she won’t be any more because she fired him, Marianne then smacks her in the face with the gun. Jack’s kiss doesn’t work and they all realize Snow White is really dead. Hansel offers to try but his kiss doesn’t bring her back either. The women start to argue and sling around words like “ax” “Spell” “curse” and “Poision” which confuses Jack. Jack sees the dogs running into a room and goes to follow them but before he does he’s surrounded by a silver mist which leaves him feeling unlike himself. He thens sees a swarm of birds outside singing a beautiful melody.

Snow awakes with Beast licking her. She then makes her way down to where the others are. The women realize that since Jack doesn’t have his talisman -the beanstalk- he didn’t know how he felt. (They wonder why they didn’t just make him touch it all along). But since Beast is a dog and a dogs love is unconditional he was able to break the curse. Only Snow has no memory. So, Cindy makes her drink absinthe. It does the trick. Red gives Marianne a death threat. Marianne points her gun straight at Red. Then an explosion is heard.

Jack is being watched from the shadows by an assassin that’s been sent from up the beanstalk. He makes his move but a clock strikes and two men swing into the room. The men almost have him down and take his swrod but he swings underneath the couch and decides not to go out without a fight. He spies a hat pin. Meanwhile, Robin hears the gun blasts and rushes to see if Marianne is ok. Instead he sees Red’s bloody body on the ground. She’s just been knocked out tho. Marianne set a trap. She picks up Red’s body and says they should go to bed. Tomorrow they need to get the band back together.

When the Princesses demand to know where Granny is Red plays ignored and says how should she know. They aren’t related. Then Snow White reveals herself and the two women stare at each other in hatred. Snow is about to smack Red but in that brief second she downs a potion and a hole opens up. The White Rabit snatches her through the hole but when Snow grabs Red she goes through the hole as well. Jack’s patients show up at Granny’s. Jerry tells him about how the woman he’s fallen for has gone missing and says it’s Tink. (She doesn’t know this). Then his brothers (the Miner brothers) show up. While they’re venting over some dispute about money, something tells Jack to touch the beanstalk. Jerry finds out Tink is in jail from the brothers. When they leave, Jack follows his instinct and Captain Jack returns.

Chesire brings Alice the bad news of the events so far. Alice orders that the beanstalk be destroyed (and the beans). When she finds out Snow and Alice are in Enchantment, she orders they be brought to her. So, she can kill them both. (Red for just having the name Red a color she HATES. Plus she once was good with horses-she hates those too-.) all the Princesses, Marianne, and Robin decide to build an army, unspell everyone with Granny’s notebooks, and search Red’s house They decide they need to find Granny first and find out why the curse didn’t affect her. They call in Lil John for help. Just as he arrives, Red’s house goes up in flames. Jerry uses Lil John’s truck as a bucket to dose the flames. Granny is rescued but dies shortly after telling them to save the sisters,

Jack notices there are six beans instead of five so he gives one to the house which tranforms it, updates it, and expands it. When the others come back, they all catch up. Aura reunites Tink with her shadow. Tink says she’s happy to be free of Red’s house. Then hints there was something she left but won’[t need anymore. Jack then finds out Red and Snow are sisters. Snow and Red are being lead through the forest by the White Rabbit. Snow manevers them so that the Rabbit flips up and is eaten by a Venus Fly Trap. They then head to “Rose Red Manor” when they get there there’s a marque announcing a game between them. It asks who will win and who will die.
Alice calls in Grimm who tries to convince her he had nothing to do with how the events unforlded. They all had minds of their own. Maybe it was the author of *her* story. But Alice has an idea. Grimm will work for her. After trying to write there way out of the story doesn’t work, Snow suggests they find some magic and take her castle back.

The Princesses’s have a yard sale and tell everyone that everything is 1 dollar but they can only have one item from Granny’s collection. They’re able to convince Ariel to buy something and she touches a conch shell and reunites with Eric. There’s a man that’s followed Rapunzel there (or Ariel) named Bill. They recognize him as one of the Grimm Brothers (Wilheim). Him being there could only mean his brother (Jacob) is in trouble. A woman appears to them and says she’s Dorothy Gale and Alice is her sister. She offers her help and a ride to Enchantment by way of cyclone.

On the way to the Mines, Red and Snow see the cyclone. A branch hits Red and knocks her out. Snow makes it to the mines but once there notices that Alice has taken all the magic. She finally ses one small chip but then comes face to face with (Alice). The Princesses, Jack, Robin and Marianne land in Oz, Forthy tells them this is the end of the ride for her. She’s teathered to the house -which is hers they learned earlier- until Alice is defeated. Jack rushes off but Robin stops him from going into the forest (even though he’s armed). The two face off over Snow both being their responsibility. Jack notices there are no sounds of animals to help his fiancée. He then tells Robin he thinks one of the mice that have been on Beast since early is an intruder. They’re deciding whether to question him when Bella tells him they have a plan.

It’s not Alice. It’s Ralph an Ogre Snow got aquainted with through Jack. He’s tied up and sentenced to be executed. He helps untie Snow and red and then leads them to “The Resistance’ all the animals in the kingdom that were once subjects of Snow White. In the end battle, Snow takes the mirror from her and Red’s story and tries to trap Alice, but it doesn’t work. Alice then grabs her up by the throat. Snow uses a piece of broken glass from the Chesire to banish Alice inside. It ends with Jack asking Snow if they aren’t controlling Oz who is, but there’s no follow up book so I guess we’ll never know.

My Thoughts
It’s been a while since I read the last book in the series The Bitches of Ever After, but what struck me wrong when reading that one and this one is the ahtor’s excessive use of the word bitch. Not only does Jack call them bitches all the time, but they call each other bitches. The killing part is I feel like the term is overused because they really fail to show any behavoir that’s bitch worthy. In Jack’s case I think the only thing they do is tie him up in order to get him to Grannys. I mean yeah, they could have just ASKED or EXPLAINED nit can you really call that a bitch move? I guess I just see these women different. True they’re rough. I might call them HOOD. Butto think of someone as a bitch I’d see them as more men spirit

ed. Red I could see being called a bitch. She tried to have Snow killed and sale (or give away
) her heart. But cindy, Ponizie, Sno,w, and Bell, not so much! So, I really don’t think the term bitch was needed so much throughout the story. Nor, honestly do I really think the title of these books is really necessary.

The book amused me tho. There was some good snark to it. I liked taking the characters in slightly darker versions. Well not darker but more crude versions. I particularly liked what was done with Alice the most. Turning her bat ish crazy really worked. It was different and I really enjoyed it. She really was the most interesting part of the story and it was also an interesting mix up to make Dorothy and Alice sisters. I really wanted to hear more about that and how Red and snow were sisters. But I don’t think I’ll shed tears over the series stopping here.

Way back in 2015 I read a book called The Bitches of Everafter. I had been looking for fairytale retellings (yeah, I had just read a book called Cinder and was hunting for something else to read) and I came across that. I loved it. As the title may give away, there is plenty of foul language in it, but in a comical way most of the time.

The Bitches of Enchantment was the same. It starts where the other book left off, our fairy tale princesses (who just so happen to be convicted for some misdoing or another) kidnap the doctor who is helping rehabilitate them. Their stories have been rewritten, and they don't know it, until they finally remember their stories by some object that is important to them. I know, it all sounds a little confusing, but it does make sense if you read the first book, I promise.

Anyway turns out that the person who is responsible for everything isn't even one of Grimm's characters. I'm not going to spoil it by going into detail, what I will say is that these ladies have a lot of sass and a mouth full of bad language. The language itself isn't that big of a deal, not to me at least. These princesses are stuck in a world that isn't their own and they are acting like normal people. Well, all except a certain Snow White. She's far too innocent for all of that. Or is she?

The characters themselves are fantastic. They all have their own personality and they are nothing like the prim and proper ladies that you'd expect them to be. There is a lot of cat fighting, and you can really see why. They all clash over one thing or another, just like normal young ladies do. Even the men in the story have a certain flare to them that really brings them to life.

The description is great, most of the time I really felt that I could close my eyes and see what was going on in my head. That's why I look for in a good book, the great imagery that means I can just close my eyes and picture it all. I saw some wonderful settings when reading this book.

If you don't swearing, and there is A LOT of it, then please do avoid the books. Otherwise, if you want a bit of a chuckle and like a twisted fairytale then go for it. There is going to be a third book, but I have no idea when that should be. It could be this year, it could be next (my Kindle book does suggest that it is coming in 2017). Either way, I am really looking forward to it!

This is a wild ride into fairy tales like you've never heard them. Start with Grimm's princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Aurora, and Belle. Add Robin Hood, Marian, Red Riding Hood, Jack, Tinkerbell, Alice, and Dorothy Gale along with tons of others as characters or pop culture references, then twist the whole thing until it cries "Uncle". These are not your childhood stories. Someone has rewritten the Happy Endings, erasing the memories of our Heroes, and sticking them in a land called Everafter. To reclaim their kingdoms and defeat the most unlikely villain they must regain their memories and restore their allies. Then they must find their way to their own lands, now called the United Kingdoms of Enchantment. There they will have to outwit and outfight their enemies to win back their thrones. This book is funny, bawdy, filled with non stop twists on the tales you thought you knew, and totally delightful. It does have strong language so be warned. You will be glad you joined Snow, Cindy, Aura, Punzie, and Belle in this adventure. I do recommend you read the first volume "The Bitches of Everafter" first as this book follows directly from it.

Story definitely picks up, a whole lot better than the first, in my opinion. I’m even intrigued for the third installment of this series; however I still think the “bitches” name calling is not adding value to the story, and is more like a kind of trademark to the series due to the titles of the books.

I really enjoyed this, and I'm looking forward to the final book of the trilogy, yet to be released.

This one gives some hints as to why all of these fairytale leading ladies are ending up in the same story, but also, I felt like it had its own ending, more than the first book, which had a more awkward cliffhanger ending.

Enticing Book

This book has a new twist to all fairy tales. The excitement and peril of each character kept me wanting to jump ahead to the next. The unknown and the unexpected in a more modern time causes one to wish there was a never land for each of us. A very unexpected and great read. I would recommend to all who like fantasy with a twist and moderation of new age.

Okay, so…
Great story. Lots of typos. I also was getting confused on parts where the writer had Snow and Red bound to each other, yet it seemed like the writer forgot she’d done that throughout the story.
Otherwise, loved book 2. Hoping book 3 comes out soon since this book was published a while ago!! Fingers crossed.
Ends on a cliffhanger.

A ton more characters!

The second book to the ever after series is just as fast paced and easy t read as the first in the series. Here we meet even more characters (ex. the little mermaid and The wizard of Oz). Our author has dome a wonderful job of weaving other author's works to create something really fun; an amalgamation of great fairytale characters into one big story! Once again the story is fast paced so you don't wait forever to have the story reach certain points like you might see in other serial books. Our heroines are indeed feisty and crass. But quite frankly, my favorite is that the authors uses so many different story characters that we know and love to weave her own, it's such fun.

Rabbits and battles

Snow and Red end back in Enchantment, locked together with a binding spell. Jack uses a bean to fix the house and everyone gets their memories back. Then Dorothy reveals that her sister is Alice and Alice wants Snow dead. Using her magic, Dorothy takes them back to Enchantment, where they help Snow and Red trap Alice in a sword from Wanderland.

I loved the revelations in this book. Dorothy loves Alice but Alice is nuts. I love Red's character development as her and Snow work together. I want to know their story!

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one. Too many narrator changes, every chapter and sometimes within a chapter we had these mini cliffhangers and then moved to a different character's narration. Sometimes I couldn't remember who was talking. All those threads and then they just all got lumped together at the end and it was over. Not sure I'll bother with the 3rd one if it ever comes out.

I loved this book. Every character from Grimm's Fairy Tales is mentioned. Every character from Alice in Wonderland is here too. Enjoy a rollicking good time as you read about fairy tale characters as they have never been written before.

Better attitudes

The princesses improve and so the story was much more appealing. The unwinding of the plot against the princesses is very well done but the ending seems rushed with no happy endings explained.
