With Vader and Luke stranded amongst Vrogas Vas's ruins, Leia orders the troops to destroy Vader, while Han searches for Luke, who is exploring a Jedi Temple. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards. Spotlight is a division of ABDO.
Epic! Things are really picking up. The writer isn't shying away from using different cannon main characters anymore. Aphra and 000 caught Luke. Darth Vader is still single handedly beating an army. Princess Lea is horrible, I don't like her. Han Solo is my kind of guy, he is a great friend and he really wants to save Luke. This looks like the only place where you can see Harrison Ford young and in new adventures, how is this even legal? Or do they pay him to use his face? 😂
Darth Vader #13 is part two of the crossover series Vader Down. The Sith Lord is now stranded on the planet Vrogas Vas in search for Luke Skywalker. Invoking the same fear as Rorschach's line "I'm not locked here with you, you're locked in here with me", Darth Vader proves why is a force to be feared as he kills, guns down, utterly destroying any rebel force that try to defeat him. This whole crossover is a love letter for fans of Darth Vader.
Tank attacks? No problem.
As much as I love what the creator team is doing with Darth Vader, I feel terribly sorry to all those Rebels tasked to defeat the Sith lord. They are all helpless against this force user (but then, when you think about those who were killed in the Death Star, Darth Vader just evens out the loses the empire suffered.
Vader Down is a quality series. It is a fun and easy read that should be experienced by all Star Wars fans.
Though this is not as action-packed as Vader Down #1, there is still some Vader action when he fights the rebel soldiers and some nice character highlights. So while Vader Down #1 feels as action-packed as an issue of Jason Aaron's Star Wars, this has the pacing of Kieron Gillen's Darth Vader series but also has perspectives of characters featured heavily in Aaron's series. It is very believable that Leia is still bent on killing Vader no matter what it takes. Han calls her out on it, saying that they should be worrying more about Luke. But Leia does not want to send out a search speeder that could have been beneficial in getting Vader. I really want to know how long it has been since the Battle of Yavin, because Han seems to care a great deal about Luke by this time. Luke is at the Jedi Temple of Vogras Vas, where he believes that he sees the ghosts of Ben Kenobi and his father. He believes that C-3PO has arrived, but it is Triple Zero spray-painted gold. I guess that confirms that both protocol droids sound alike. While R2-D2 does not fall for this ruse, Triple Zero still gives Luke quite a shock. I am hoping to see interactions between Triple Zero and Threepio and between BT-1 and R2-D2.

“Darth Vader #13” Leia instructs the attack on Vader, insisting that such a mission exceeds the concerns of saving any one individual … including Luke Skywalker! Han: “You'll have to excuse me, Your Highness. Some of us have FRIENDS to save.” - -
Story continues good (Vader Down) Artwork is REALLY good. We get to see what Vader is capable of, when you throw him alone against literally a whole fucking army.
Another add to the Vader series. Not a huge fan of Luke being in a Jedi Temple ruin, and one so similar looking to that of Jeddha. Also not really crazy about the Han/Leia interactions. Not a fan of Leia being so calculating, and cold-hearted, especially in regards to that of Luke. Her saying she can't even spare one speeder for Han seems so over-the-top melodramatic that it doesn't quite fit her character. Especially given early ROTJ and devoting herself, Lando, Chewie, Luke, etc, to trying to rescue Han back. I understand the 'thirst' for revenge she might have against Vader due to Alderaan and how fresh that is in her memory, but it still doesn't quite gel with her.
This is just another one of those instances where I don't think the new canon quite lines up with the characters in the OT movies as well as the old canon did, or as well as they should/could line-up with the characters.
I originally gave this 3 stars but then after writing out this review I lowered it to 2.
The weakest entry by far in the entire Darth Vader comic book series.
Very disappointing.
But, on a high note... this catches me up now on this send, so now I get to jump back over to Star Wars (75 comic book spread) issue #14 and then be 100% on track story wise.
Vader's TIE Fighter has been brought down on the rebel-held planet of Vrogan Vas. For anyone else that may be a problem, but not for Vader! He's on a mission to find Luke Skywalker and even the rebel army isn't going to get in his way!
This is the second chapter of the big Star Wars cross-over event and everyone gets included! Luke stumbles upon a Jedi temple that might have some bearing on his future, while Dr. Aphra and her droids are out to get him for Vader! Its still fun to see this early version of Luke who's pretty innocent and kind of clueless!
We get to see some interestingly divisive moments between Leia and Han as her obsession with capturing or killing Vader seems to take precedence over finding Luke and bringing him to safety. This is one of the few places that we've really seen Leia's grief and anger over what happened to Alderaan along with the fact that she places a lot of the blame on Vader! Really interesting scene that gives Leia some nice layers.
All of this is done up in Salvador Larroca's beautiful artwork, making this just a gem of a book!
Both Luke and Vader survived the impact. Vader handles easily the Rebel forces that have him surrounded. Luke finds himself in a cave where he senses The Force. It is then he realizes this must be an old Jedi training base.
Meanwhile, Han Solo heads out to help his friend while Leia remains skeptical.
It's fun getting into this short story.

This is a brilliant introduction to Vader's origin. These stories feel like genuine "Star Wars" and much more authentic than the recent movies (pity this writer couldn't have been enlisted for the film's). The art, meanwhile, is fantastic.
Darth Vader #13 and Vader Down #2 of 6. Very good continuation of the story that was set in Vader Down, but as expected it didn't reach that level of excellence.
