This is truly a first-rate thriller! A plane crash in Ukraine that turns out to be intentional. And that's only the beginning. Anyone who likes thrillers will enjoy this.

The Russians and Chinese are willing to take down a plane to stop the delivery of an envelope and Raisa must handle this delicately to avoid a Cold War…but she carries a big stick and knows how to use it in this frightening, intriguing, action packed spy thriller filled with danger and betrayal at every turn.

Raisa Jordan is sent to identify a U.S. Diplomatic escort caught up in the crash of flight 91 from China to Poland. From the start she is curious about the cause of the air crash, and starts to poke around. Her investigation draws the attention of Nye Davis of Reuters news agency, as she follows the bodies of the escort and his prisoner to the morgue. The story develops at a very quick pace, into a very exciting thriller, as Raisa and Nye try to identify who is responsible for the crash, and ultimately prevent a new Cold War between the super powers. For me author has written a first rate story, which is not only engrossing but very easy to read. Recommended.

I would like to thank NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for review. When flight 91 from Guangzhou crashes in the Ukraine, Raisa Jordan, an agent with the US Diplomatic Security Service, is sent to investigate. Passengers on the flight included a DSS agent escorting a fugitive and carrying a letter containing sensitive information. Raise finds evidence that the plane was shot down and there is a further attack on the convoy carrying the agent's and fugitive's remains.
When a lab report confirms that the remains are not those of the fugitive being returned to the US, Raisa is sent to China to track him down and find out what the letter contained. On her trail is a reporter who senses a big story. At first Raisa dodges him, but his military background proves an asset to her assignment.
Chris Goff's story involves stolen technology, falsified identities, chase scenes and enough action to keep the reader glued to the pages. Her main character is resourceful and intelligent, yet hides a family secret that could end her career. For an edge of your seat thriller, it dos not get much better than Red Sky.

Well written thriller. We'd all like to think a vast global conspiracy like this could not exist but sometimes we all must wonder. There are good twists, some turns, lots of bad guys, some good guys, and Raisa has a (no spoilers) secret. My one quibble is that a DSS agent would not be flying on a Chinese airline under these (or pretty much any) circumstance (see the Fly America Act). It's good to see a female protagonist from a lesser known USG but oh so important element. I'd be curious to see what a DSS agent thinks. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a page turner and I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Could not put it down. Even better than Dark Waters. Probably helped by meeting and hearing Chris Goff talk about book at her book signing at the Tattered Cover Bookstore in Denver. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Jordan is an interesting character with mysterious family past. Looking forward to seeing how Jordan's discovery regarding father's past unfolds.

Nonstop action from front to back with a believable plot. I felt like I had a pretty clear vision of the settings, even thought I have not visited the countries in the book. A great read which will prompt me to go back and read the first book in this series. The tales are not reliant on each other.

Even better than the first in the series, and that says a lot. Couldn't put it down--i'm going to be very tired at work tomorrow, but this book was worth it. Great writing and captivating heroine.

I had to suspend reality a bit and view the main character Raisa as a bit of a wonder woman, but it was worth it for this exciting read. There's plenty of action in interesting settings that I know were well-researched by the author.

October 16, 2019Having been an escort for Soviet INF inspectors in the late 80s, I'm a sucker for thrillers that carry undertones of that past cold war. Chris weaves a spell-binding story that I couldn't put down.

The novel itself is 2/5, but the abysmal delivery of the audiobook, probably by an AI voice, with mispronounced words (especially "San Francisco" and "live") is unacceptable and deserves 0/5.

A passenger plane from China goes down in Ukraine, carrying a U.S. diplomatic agent with a top-secret letter and a prisoner masquerading as someone else to their deaths. Raisa Jordan, a Diplomatic Security Service agent, is deviated from routine escort duty to retrieve the American agent’s body. Thus begins the story of a terrifying new weapon sold by a Chinese criminal gang to Russian terrorists. It is a novel of betrayal, ambushes, gunfights, and edge-of-your-seat chases. Once you get into it, you will not want to put the book down. It twists and turns with unexpected intrigue and excitement.
Along the way, Jordan picks up an American journalist and a Chinese computer whiz teenager. The kid was supposed to be on the plane, but a switch was made with his cousin at the last minute. A love-hate relationship with both men evolves as they work to infiltrate the Guangdong Triad—one of the largest criminal gangs in China—and a major steel manufacturing plant that produced the secret weapon. It continues when they return to Ukraine and then Poland where, with the help of Polish Special Forces, they track the gun and its Russian handlers, bent on using the weapon to destroy a meeting of top European leaders.
For an enjoyable read with great characters, strong research that doesn’t become tedious, location, and action, I recommend Chris Goff’s Red Sky.
