Matilda Pennypacker would brave the untamed West for just one reason – to claim her orphaned nephew, the only family she had left in the world. She never imagined the boy would refuse to return with her to New York – nor that his obstinate uncle, Sheriff Michael Connor, would be so disturbingly handsome. Unfortunately, men like him weren’t attracted to women like her. Why, then, did he agree to take her as his wife for one year?
Mike was delighted to discover that beneath his temporary wife’s tightly bound exterior was a woman whose passions rivaled his own. This marriage of convenience was proving surprisingly inconvenient… for when their year was up, Mike wasn’t sure he’d be able to let her go.
Maureen Child was born 28 September 1951 in California, USA. She and her husband enjoy traveling, usually taking road trips with her parents. When she’s at home, she is kept busy with her two grown children and a somewhat confused golden retriever named Abbey. She is busy writing her next book.
Under her own name, Maureen Child writes short contemporary novels—books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling, she is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances. Over the years, she’s written under lots of different names and she prefers the term ‘pseudonym’ to ‘alias’. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing. She writes paranormal romance novels under the pesudonym of Regan Hastings. Now, a USA Today best selling author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas, she is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America. One of her novels, A Pocketful Of Paradise, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.
I loved it. This book has been re-printed and the author is now going under the name Maureen Child. I have read some of her other books which I have enjoyed as well. This was re-released in Feb 2012. It was a good sweet read
Matilda's sister dies and Matilda relunctantly leaves her home in New York to travel out west and bring her nephew back to New York. However he is being cared for by his uncle who has no intention of letting him go back to NY. They enter into an agreement for what they hope will benefit the child - and themselves. As described, this book is sweet and sometimes funny, but always entertaining. I've read this book more than once and have put it in my most loved category for when I'm looking for a feel good story.
The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.
