A very frustrating read to be honest as this has so much potential as a concept, but it doesn’t come to fruition here. The writing style didn't grip me at all. The protagonist can be a little bit annoying. The story also is a bit confusing at times because some things don’t really make sense if you think about it.

I’m glad I ended up finally reading this off iBooks. It was a quick, fun read and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The concept was really interesting and unique. I thought it could have used a bit more development though, there were so many questions left unanswered for me! I did still very much enjoy it though!

Rating for the last 10% of the book = 4

Overall rating = 2

I cannot handle heroines who are to stupid to live. Her constant whining; fear & anxiety got boring real quick.

The last 10% was good. But, not worth the journey to get to it.

2nd DNF of the year, 7th Feb.

DNF at page 43.

The writing style of this book is soo boring and not gripping. It’s about Lily who works in a catering company and in the party that she is in for work she meet the famous Franklin and then from then on the “story” kinda happen.

Honestly I was annoyed by the writing style and how it kept going on and on even though this is a tiny book (180 pages). Furthermore, I didn’t like how repetitive some parts were like Lily was repeating how Franklin looks like, how her anxiety was when she was a kid. Saying that she has anxiety and then goes to find out what Franklin and Larry were doing.

Overall, not an exciting read. I mean the idea is nice about a revenge god and a witch and all but how everything was put together especially since this is a short book I don’t think some of things should be dragged on.

Very fast read. Honestly the story line would have been fine if not for the confusing mess happening. How can you throw a rookie that just learned of magic, has absolutely no idea how to use hers or even what hers is, and has no no detective or fighting experience whatsoever in these scenarios! Every question she asked is met with either vagueness or disdain. No one is leading her through anything just expecting her to know things. How as the reader are we even to know wth is going on when even the main character can’t get any answers. Absolutely no world building whatsoever, no backstory either. To be honest even though I thought Lily was kind of a whiney FMC I’m totally on the same page as her when she says she doesn’t understand why she is even indentured in the first place. Without explaining Vali tells Lili she is responsible for her grandmothers death.....huh? Nope, done with this gave me a headache just trying to wrap my head around it.

Talented first draft

The author shows a lot of potential, but this is not publication-worthy. Every important statement the characters make is repeated five times verbatim, and she rarely gives the reader information or rules. The driver says nothing to her, and later when the author wants to retroactively produce information, she says the driver handed her a slip of paper. No he didn't. We were watching the whole time, begging for just such a scrap. The promised manual and induction never appear. She somehow crosses town with no explanation by using stairs to appear somewhere we don't know. Major characters never get a description. Watch RIPD instead. It follows rules

I liked this book. However, it would have been better if people had helped her more. She was thrown into this chaos and nobody was really telling her what she should do. I'm interested in knowing more about her being the frozen witch though. So hopefully in the next book we will learn more.

DNF for now

I’m just not in the reading mood to read about the main character living her boring life in the first chapter.

Loved it!

I read reviews which seemed to be mostly good but one that I read disliked the first person narrative. However, I think it adds to the mystery. You meet Lilly on her terms but soon discover she is not so innocent as she believes. I liked her slowly growing self-knowledge & felt with her the confusion & fear of the terrifying unknown. At first I wanted to give her a shake as she shows the cowardly part of herself & constant repetition of what she is told. But she is human & fallible & demonstrates latent characteristics that start to develop. Some standard romantic stirrings but nonetheless a great start to the series. Now to buy no 2!!!

Awesome Find

I chose the book based on its name. I didn't even read the blurb for it. This book surprised me and I couldn't put it down. It starts off slow but then speeds up considerably, but still interesting from start to finish. The characters pull you in because you want to find out who they are and why they're there. Lily and Franklin/Vali relationship pulls you in and leaves you wondering where it will lead. I would definitely recommend this book.

I couldn't finish it. It seemed as if it was written by two different writers: some parts very well developed with characters dept and a nice writing style, some others were boring with the characters flat as cardboard.
After a while I lost my interest and I stopped reading. I am not going to continue the series

This mc is always shaking, crying and sweating and yet, she is likable and not annoying at all. That s surprising as i prefer kickass heroines usually. The character developpement is slow but promising. I don't like the love interest much but i like that the attraction isn't dominating the story. If this girl was lust stupid on top of her anxieties, it would have been hell to read, but fortunately, she is cowardly but not stupid nor petulant. I'm reading the final book now, and it's the first time i felt reluctant to do continue reading coz i'm feeling that love interest is gonna finally make her stupid.
Ps: i finished the series. The character developpement is slow and powerful. This was not about a weak girl discovering her powers and turning fierce. Nope. It was about a girl who didn't know herself at all and so had a shaky moral compass and a habit of shifting blame and denying anything that contradicts her self image of good girl. She then discovers her powers but is kept ignorant and so manipulated by everyone that she ends up knowing herself even less. Untill she stops relying on others opinions and she starts to self inspect..even then, she is still confused but the major difference is that she trying to do the right things dispite her confusion. And she started to aknowledge her mistakes too. By the end, she saw clearly the motivations of others and theor manipulations, but she was so far into her self discovery that she went with forgivenesd instead of revenge. Personally, i prefer revenge but her choices saved humanity.

This is a good book if you are wanting to try something new. There were a couple of things that were confusing to me. I wish there would have been more explaining or world-building. *Spoiler* It was confusing for me because all of a sudden this girl is picked up, told that she has to pay for all of her 'sins'. She is given a gun and told to hunt for another sinner. There is little to no explanation of what the hello is going on, she's confused, I'm confused. Why aren't they training any of their people? How is she supposed to know how to track and apprehend someone with little to no explanation and a gun? Like what? It does get really interesting towards the end but it is so frustrating that there are no more details or information. It's kinda frustrating as a reader to want to immerse myself into this book/world but it feels like there are pieces missing. We still don't know why she has powers or what that's all about?... But it sounds like such an interesting series, and I'm sure it is. This would be a great book for someone that is interested in a new fantasy series.

DNF: I had to stop halfway because I was bored out of my mind.
Writing:
The writing style feels more like reading a script than a story. It’s typical romantasy, neither great nor terrible. It doesn’t give that magical fantasy vibe, but it’s easy to read if you’re in a slump.
Story:
The concept had potential, but the execution was awful. The FMC's so-called "sins" are laughable, and the "god's" reasoning makes no sense. This would’ve been better if the FMC was genuinely bad.
Characters:
Typical romantasy cast. The FMC is whiny and faints at every turn. Even though the situation is explained repeatedly, she’s still clueless—like, I get it, she needs time, but do I really need to read about it every five minutes?
The MMC is a jerk with broken logic. There’s no way this can be called a romance because he’s emotionally unappealing

Overall, this book was just not worth the time or effort.

Tough to finish

This wasn't for me. The writing was incredibly juvenile in dialogue and descriptive phrases. There were TOO many descriptives for the same feeling/thought/sensation over and over.

The main character was also insanely milk water and whiney the whole book until the end when she finally just "figures out" how to do what she needed to do to fight back.

If this is supposed to be a love story between the main character and the revenge god, I don't buy that either. Zero chemistry! Only finished it because I have a book goal this year. Will not read the rest.

Unfortunate

A brilliant story with a whole.new twist on magic great characters and a backstory that actually works Unfortunately absolutely ruined for me by the incessant use of one sentence repeated so often it actually became annoying,
He turned on his foot, she turned on her foot ,I turned on my foot, repeated continually through out the book, so many times I almost gave up, Don't misunderstand it's a good story but so many other phrases would have been better. Baz

The story was intriguing but the writing was a bit redundant. I found myself getting frustrated at that fact.... however, the writing seemed to get better towards the end of the book and the story drew me in enough that I want to read book two... so if the synopsis catches your eye take what I just said with a spoon full of sugar and read book one to see what you think.

I suppose this rating is more for the end of the book for me and it is more a 2.5 than 3.0. For most of the book I was having a hard time grasping the story and the female MC was rather annoying as well. But there was no real character building or really any story building. I was underwhelmed. Truly.

Another great teen read. After contract with a small wooden box, Lily is drawn into a world of magic, witches and gods. Here she discovers more about herself.
One of five books but the conflict is resolved before finishing. I would be happy to continue reading the series.

I enjoyed reading the Frozen Witch—it was such an unexpected, magical story and the characters were intrinsic to the story. It was a fun easy read, perfect for one of our housebound days here in 2020!

This book had promise, unfortunately it didn't live up to it. The book is only over 2-3 days, I found it weird she doesn't eat the entire time. The main character is always anxious and oblivious to what's going on. Interactions with other are brief and repetitive. No real romance unless you take the "soft looks" into consideration. Just a shame as it sounded like a good book this felt more of a draft copy.

Accidentally hit 4 stars. Should have been 2. - the story could have been told in 30 pages. All filler no killer
