A New Mystery Brought Georgie And Jack Together. Will An Old One Drive Them Apart? In midlife, Georgie Shaw and Detective Jack Wheeler have a second chance at love, despite the fact they met during a murder investigation. Decades earlier, Georgie was nearly killed in an attack on the beach that left one man dead and two others missing including her fiancé, Danny Farrell.

˃˃˃ Haunted By A Song From The Past When Georgie returns to Corsario Cove, more than memories haunt her as a song Danny wrote just for her echoes in the Love Notes in the Key of Sea. Welcome! Join me, snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, and food--California style!

Life is an extravaganza and so unpredictable! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.

On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University.

A GED for my husband, and many more years of education eventually landed us in academia—with Ph.D.s from the University of Michigan we took professor jobs with U of M’s longstanding football rival, The Ohio State University.

Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. In my professional career I wrote and published widely as a scholar, with more than forty manuscripts of varying lengths on my vita. I also carried out hundreds of training, consulting and speaking engagements on a number of gloriously nerdy topics.

So what on earth does a research scientist have in common with a mystery writer? As avid fans of the mystery genre will tell you at the core of any good mystery is a passionate search for the truth. Discovering the truth involves finding and assembling pieces of complex puzzles in order to solve seemingly intractable problems—scientist and sleuth are cut from the same cloth!

Still married to the same sweet guy, I live with my husband in one of the seven desert resort cities in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing mysteries I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese cats.

The Sonoran Desert is a beautiful setting to ponder life’s mysteries, by the surrounding mountains and the bountiful delights of the desert resort communities. I hope you enjoy reading the books in my three cozy mystery series: The Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery Series, The Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series, and the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. Cheers! Anna

This was my second delve into the Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. I found this installation much less intriguing than the first book.

For a fast, easy read, this book will deliver satisfactory entertainment. You might even develop a liking to the main character. However, I don't care for the amount of time and effort it takes to care for her demanding cat or all the intricate details of her employment, neither of which connected to the mystery directly. Who on earth would relish a morning alarm system of a loud Yeow zinging into one's eardrum?

In this installment, the main character, Georgie Shaw returns to her hometown, where she had previously been assaulted and lost her college beau under deceptive circumstances. She went to support the daughter of a friend, who had recently been assaulted similarly. However, more focus was on her own assault. I really did not like the way her character was perceived. And there were precious few hints about what was actually evolving around her about her past.

Goodreads Review by Sandee: "The negative for me is the solving of the murder. Like the first book, it doesn't happen. A character sums up the solution at the end of the book. I prefer it when an author takes me along on the solving of the mysteries."

This is a clean and wholesome read with a H.E.A. regarding the capture of a murderer. However, the romance will no doubt continue throughout the rest of the series.

Georgie Shaw and her new love interest, Detective Jack Wheeler visit Georgie's hometown where her best friend's daughter is recuperating from an attack meant to kill her. The incident and visit slam Georgie in the face with memories from a similar attack when she was in college. Her boyfriend disappeared and one of the attackers was killed. This is a fast paced story with a lot of suspense and twists to the murder story. I like that the characters are in their 40's with well developed personalities. This is the second in a new series and I am looking forward to the next installment. The background lends to the story without taking anything away. Cozy mystery fans will love this.

While this series is set in "Marley World", it is mostly about the lives of Georgie and Jack, the 2 main characters. Georgie had left her hometown after a tragic "incident" that happened to her. Now 20 years later, she must return to help her friend and her daughter, who went through a similar attack recently. When Georgie was attacked that 20 years ago, she suffered a head injury that left her with memory loss of most of that night. Beginning the first night after Georgia and Jack checked into their hotel rooms, strange things begin to happen to Georgia,.are they real or flashbacks of that terrible night? This story really is a mystery...one you will "never forget".

I liked this book more than the first one in the Georgie Shaw series. The characters are stronger and their strengths and weaknesses are more evident. There are strong themes involving assault, loss and recovery. I enjoyed the emotions and character interactions the most. The negative for me is the solving of the murder. Like the first book, it doesn't happen. A character sums up the solution at the end of the book. I prefer it when an author takes me along on the solving of the mysteries. However, this is a well-written and well-plotted book.

A good read.

I must admit I preferred this book to the first book in the series.

Georgie has promised to talk her best friend's daughter who was attacked and left for dead.
Georgie has opened up to Jack about her past. And when she and Jack go to a posh spa in her home town her past and present collide.

This is mostly about a cold case that happened 40 years ago. But is a wonderful story.
And of course there are recipes at the end.
The lasagna gets full marks for flavor but I did change out the noodles. And I have to admit I made the lasagna before I read the book because it sounded so good.

Love Notes in the Key of Sea by Anna Celeste Burke is the second book in the Georgie Shaw series and I totally swept up into the story from page one. I truly enjoy spending time with Georgie and Jack and I'm rooting for this couple to face all of life's mysteries together. They truly work as a team in this one as Georgie faces the loss of her first love in her home town of Cosario Cove. Step by step together they unravel the mystery of one tragic night on the beach when Georgie was injured and lost her memory of that night as well as her first love. I couldn't put it down.

Georgie Shaw and Jack Wheeler are back in the 2nd Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery. Georgie is finally going to face her painful past in Corsario Cove. Of course, Jack is with her every step of the way. I wish I had a Jack Wheeler of my own. He is a wonderful man. Georgie and Jack deserve an HEA.

Once again, Anna Celeste Burke has written a wonderful book. You will find drama, comedy, romance, and more when you read her books. Love Notes is well-written, moves at a steady pace, and kept my attention from beginning to end. The characters are everyday people, which I love. Makes them more real, in my opinion. Grab a copy of Murder At Catmmando Mountain and Love Notes In The Key of Sea. If you like cozy mysteries, you will love these stories.

Memories from her past arise when Georgie and Jack return to Corsario Cove. It has been about 30 years since Georgie was attacked on the beach and the memories are still haunting her. Shortly after their arrival in Corsario Cove, Georgie hears the song Danny, her former boyfriend from college, had written especially for her.

On the night of the attack, Georgie was severly injured and Mark Harwell was killed. Following the attack, Danny, and Mark's brother,Tommy, were never seen again..

Who killed Mark and attacked Georgie? Is Danny still alive? Who is tormenting Georgie in Corsario Cove? Can Jack and Georgie figure out what happened so Georgie can put the past behind her?

The book is well-written with plenty of twists and surprises. I had some confusion regarding Georgie's age and the timeline, but it did not detract any from the story. I look forward to reading more of the Georgie Shaw Mysteries.

I am happy to report that Ms. Burke has kept up the high standard she set with the first book in the series Murder at Catmmando Mountain. I thoroughly enjoyed Love Notes in the Key of Sea.

Love Notes in the Key of Sea begins with the reader being immersed in the developing on-going relationship between Georgie Shaw and detective Jack Wheeler. This reader quickly feels like this couple is one to root for! Here is hoping this fledgling relationship can flourish (but first, Georgie must overcome feelings from a prior relationship). As the story begins, the daughter (Meredith) of a family friend (Jennifer Dodson) is attacked and this event brings back memories for Georgie as to a similar event she lived through in her youth.

Soon after discovering that Meredith had been attacked, Georgie seems to lose it…but I must say, Jack’s discourse has me loving him even more:

“It’s as though something suddenly swallowed me up and I couldn’t finish that sentence.” Then Jack responds “Because you went through something similar at Meredith’s age. What exactly, I don’t know, do I? Every time the subject comes up, you slip away, then go silent. It’s like a ghost story. Only the ghost is the part of you that steals away to Corsario Cove whenever something sets off your memories of the event. You’re otherwise one of the smartest, most with-it women I’ve ever met, and yet you carry this secret around with you like Marley’s chain. Not your boss Marley. But that ghost in the Dickens Christmas story. I…I’m going to shut up. We’ve been through this before, and I don’t want to make you feel worse since you’re obviously upset. When you’re ready to talk, I’m here.”

As the story unfolds, we do learn the why with respect to Georgie losing it and it then makes sense. We get the courtship story of Georgie and Danny (her fiancé) as she tells Jack about her past – including stories of her now deceased mother and father. I must say – I like reading the history of Georgie. It provided some much needed depth to this main character!

The current attack triggers memories for Georgie that have been long suppressed. Both Georgie and Jack work as a team in this story to solve the mystery of that long ago fateful night on the beach when Georgie was injured and lost her memory of that particular night as well as her first love. What a tale!

I found the story easy to read, lots of content and very emotionally moving. All that in a short 100-page story. I cannot wait for the continuation of this series. I look forward to seeing further developments in the relationship between Georgia and Jack once they return to Marvelous Marley World. Anna Celeste Burke knows how to craft a story. Usually I find novella length stories without sufficient depth to the characters and am left wanting. This is NOT the case with this author’s writing. I love her writing style and the way she tells a story. It leaves me wanting to continue on with the series. Thank you for penning such an incredible series and I look forward to the next book – All Hallows’ Eve Heist.

Love Notes in the Key of Sea is the second novella in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. It is well written, the characters are relatable, it moves at a steady pace, and kept my attention from beginning to end. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick, easy read. This is a clean cozy mystery featuring no gratuitous sex, violence, or foul language. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.

Georgina “Georgie” Shaw and Homicide Detective Jack Wheeler’s relationship is progressing nicely and they both believe they have been given a second chance at love. Jack’s first marriage ended in divorce when his job became too much for his wife to deal with and he has a daughter who is in college. Georgie has never been married but has a painful past in Corsario Cove, California. When her friend, Jennifer Dodson’s daughter, Meredith, is attacked on a beach in North Carolina, Jennifer asks and Georgie agrees to visit them in Corsario Cove and try to help Meredith process what happened to her. Georgie, knowing that returning to Corsario Cove will be painful, finally shares what happened to her nearly forty years ago with Jack and he insists on traveling with her. When Jack finds out that Georgie was attacked and almost died, her fiancé disappeared, another young man murdered, and the case has never been solved, he schedules a meeting with San Albinus Homicide Detective Mitchum to see if there’s been any new developments or if he can help what happened so many years ago.

Also listed books that are NOT out, yet, but will be this year, etcetera, to keep the list straight in my head, though I preorder them anyway. This is #2 in this series.

LOVE NOTES IN THE KEY OF SEA ANNA CELESTE BURKE
A long time ago Georgie Shaw was in love. One night that all changed! Years later, she finds herself in love with a dashing Rockford look-alike detective. Who knew she could find love again after losing Dany years before. A return trip to Cosario Cove with her new man to visit a friend opens up old wounds. Will the scars of the past finally heal after she gets her answers?
Anna Celeste Burke has struck gold with this novella. Georgie Shaw is a wonderfully witty character bit Ms. Burke shows us a more vulnerable side and I fell in love with the character all over again. I loved the way she told the story of Georgies past trauma and gave her closure.
Kudos go to the author for fantastic writing. I particularly loved this quote:
"I’ve already told you that I’m in this for the long haul. I believe we have a second chance at the kind of love we both thought we had the first time around. That’s worth waiting for and if it takes a little work, so what? I’ve never been afraid of hard work.”~~JACK WHEELER
I GIVE THE STORY 5 GOLD STARS!

I somehow missed reading Murder at Catmmando Mountain Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery #1 in this series so I can honestly say that these can be read as stand alone. There is enough background to keep you from having to figure it all out! This is also short enough that it can be read quickly (no excuses for not having the time).

Will Georgie finally be able to put the attack that happened years ago to her and which killed or didn't kill her boyfriend to rest. Who did it back then--If you read Murder at Catmmando Mountain I'm sure these were questions that you were left with--I know I would have been. All will be answered in this book. Now to go get the 3rd in this series!!

Boy Gone! What ever happened to Danny Ferrell? Forty years later and still Georgie Shaw has no recollection about that night other than a little townie-college kid trouble and the lovely song Danny wrote for her. Every time Georgie thinks of that song, it draws her back down the rabbit hole. Will she ever find out what really happened that night??? Does she want to??? Read this book and warn your children to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

This is the second book in the Georgie Shaw series and I do recommend you start with book 1 (Murder at Catmmando Mountain), since the story is referenced a lot.
Georgie Shaw and her boyfriend Detective Jack Wheeler are heading back to Georgie’s hometown of Corsario Cove. She hasn’t been there in twenty years (to attend her best friends wedding as Maid of Honor) because of the loss of her fiancé while they were in town for Christmas when she was in college. Georgie can’t remember much about the night Danny disappeared. She remembers they were on the beach, sitting near a fire, when she was bashed in the head. She’s got jumbled images after that, but all she really knows is that Danny disappeared, and another young man has lost his life. Now Georgie and Jack are there to support Georgie’s friend whose daughter had been attacked.
But strange things are happening now that make’s Georgie question whether Danny had been killed and his body never found, or if he’d gone into hiding, and has now come back. If you’re questioning the title, you’ll have to read the story because it’s explained in there.
I am definitely liking the story arc for this series. I’m glad to see that Georgie hasn’t ran Jack off yet, and I like that we can see the foibles in the pair. The author has a way writing characters that make you want to know them more, characters that aren’t perfect, characters with flaws. When the author tugs on the strings of all the parts of this mystery, you can’t wait to see who’s behind it all and why. This is another winner for this author and I definitely recommend not only this book, but this series to all those that are fans of cozy mysteries.

Lessons Learned

Anna Celeste Burke had done it again! As I have started out reading her sixth book "Murder of the Maestro," I am reading The Georgia Shaw Mysteries from the beginning so I can get to know each character, setting, and plot. This second book "Love Notes in the Key" is not only a wonderfully written book, but it goes beyond the writing. Ms. Shaw was involved in a horrible incident when she was younger, and it took the love of her life away. The only problem was she didn't know whether he was dead or alive! Because she didn't know the truth, it kept her from forming any new relationships. It took the attack of another young girl to finally solve the mystery. I really and truly believe that while Anna Celeste was continuing Georgie's story, she set out to teach us all a valuable lesson. I will let Georgie tell day it herself, for she says it best, "It’s too easy to get stuck in the past, isn’t it? Let’s all move on before we lose one more minute of the time we have left.” As I spoke those words, I made eye contact with Jack. I hoped he could see the stars shining in my eyes through the tears that lingered there as they flowed freely down my face. The smile that spread across his tender, handsome face was my reply. He stepped toward me and pulled me close in an embrace that sizzled with promise. Snap, crackle, pop!" Now, I shall move on to book three! Thank you Anna!

Although it wasn't a long story I enjoyed this book, mainly because Georgie got to find closure and the answers to the dramatic event in her life. As this is a short story there isn't a great deal of suspects and the investigation is more the characters sitting around talking and then reacting to events. However I actually liked this because it meant you learnt more about Georgie and it still kept it interesting. The person behind the stalking and how they knew so much kept you guess. Looking forward to the next book.
When her friends daughter is attacked Georgie's is asked to come and talk to her after going through something similar herself. Rather than let her return to her home town alone, Jack, her boyfriend joins her and the two quickly learn that someone wants Georgie to remember the night her boyfriend went missing and another boy was killed. Is Georgie's stalker the missing boyfriend or someone connected to the dead man. Solving an old case isn't going to be easy, especially when it involves herself.

Love notes in the key of sea-Anna Celeste Burke

Add another five star rating to my list of ACB books! The settings, the characters, the love, the recipes! When Georgie takes a weekend off from Marvelous Marley World to help a friends daughter in Corsario Cove, she takes detective and love interest Jack Wheeler along. This is not a fun weekend trip but a heartbreaking trip back to the town of her youth where she shares a similar harrowing, near death experience as Meredith, her friends daughter. Feeling scared and full of sorrow, Georgie and Jack arrive in Corsario Cove. Memories of the tragic evening come flooding back, Georgie is hearing songs and smelling smells from the past. Is someone after her or is she actually going crazy? With Jacks help, she is going to try and piece together what happened that night and hopefully be able to put it behind her and move on. I'm rooting for you Jack!

Georgie and Danny had been attacked on the beach in her hometown in her early 20s and the man she was engaged to was missing. All these years of not knowing what happened to him and trying to heal from this attack on her has been very stressful for her. Now her best friend’s daughter has been attacked on a beach and she wants Georgie to help her through her healing. Georgie agrees to go home, a place she’s only been back to once since her attack, and she agrees to help Meredith. She will have to face what really happened to her as the past will rear up and attack again. Often people tell lies to relieve themselves of their guilt and soon they believe those lies and live a life that’s an illusion but the truth is just too hard for them to bear. Miss Burke has woven a complicated story of people trying to heal when they only have lies to deal with. This is such an awesome book I loved reading it!!!

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Georgie really has little memory of what happened to her and her boyfriend all those years ago. She remembers being grabbed from behind while they were sitting on the beach and the swing of Danny's guitar but her head hit a rock and the next thing she remembers is waking in the hospital. Now her friends daughter and another girl have been attacked on that beach so she returns from NYC to try and help the girl in her recovery. Love Note in the Key of Sea was a song Danny wrote for her and was never released but suddenly she is hearing snatches of it here and there. Was Danny still alive? His body was never found. Read and learn the real story of that night and the man responsible for it.

I enjoyed Love Notes in the Key of Sea by Anna Celeste Burke. A woman can’t move on with her love life until she gets some answers about a heartbreaking event from her past. When she reaches out to help a friend deal with a similar situation, she finds herself embroiled in a small resort town mystery than put her life in danger. Well written, solid characters, and great locale make this a good read.
