Kerrelyn Sparks apparently has issues with reality. After writing more than a dozen books about vampires, she has now completely gone off the deep end and wound up on another planet. But how thrilling that she can share this magical new world with her readers! Although she is best known (so far) for the Love at Stake series, which has hit as high as number 5 on the New York Times list and 22 on the USA Today list, she hopes her readers will love The Embraced as much as they did her merry band of vamps and shifters. To learn more about her paranormal, historical, and upcoming out-of-this-world fantasy romances, please visit Kerrelyn on Facebook, Twitter, or her website at www.kerrelynsparks.com.

Kerrelyn loves hearing from readers, even those who howl at the moon. Letters may be sent to P.O. Box 5512, Katy, TX 77491-5512. If you would like bookmarks and signed bookplates, please mail a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope to her P.O. Box, and she will send those items to you.

Oh, yeah! I won this book in one of those goodreads giveaway. But, don't worry, my stars cannot be bought. Even for free stuff. I am un-bribable.
Although.... if someone wanted to TRY and bribe me, you never know.... so don't let this stop anyone from trying to give me a bunch of goods and services in hopes of getting on my good side. I like chocolate and sparkly things...

So, why the 5-stars with only a free paperback book as the bribe prize, that also happens to have the smallest print on the face of the earth? Come back, Kindle, I love you! And, WTH?? This isn't the bible! Is it the less paper and ink you use, the cheaper to print? Well... I guess that makes sense.... still. I read a book a day, man. My eyes are ready to tell me to go fuck myself and make an escape the next time I roll them. And, that is a lot! So, bring on the larger font!

This book is so much better than the cover or title suggests. I read a review by Umaiya that says that it reminds her of an old-school romance in a way because of its charm, and I agree. There is a certain amount of insta-love, heroism, special snowflake, easy resolutions, etc... in the story, but you never mind them because the book has an overall good feeling. I was all smiling and chuckling as I read. There might have even been a couple of Aww's because of the cute/sweet. In other words, I became an idiotic, insufferable gusher. I hated myself for a minute there.

I almost had to poison myself.

But, look at this exchange when our heroine, Luciana, asks her ghost-twin/sister, Tatiana, to spy for her to find an assassin:

"Tatiana, you could find the assassin!"

"Oh," Her eyes widened. "Y-you really think I could?"

"You could save Father's life. You could be a hero."

With a shy smile, Tatiana curled a lock of hair around her finger. "Yes, I suppose I could." Her eyes lit up. "Why didn't I think about sneaking into the barracks before? I could watch the guards taking off their clothes!"

"Wait a minute. Don't forget your mission."

Don't worry, Tatiana comes back with all sorts of information....

"Do you know who the assassin is?"

"No. But I discovered I've been wrong about something for years. I've always thought that the bigger a man was, the bigger his male....part would be. But that's not actually true."

Lusicana's mouth fell open.

"I know." Taitana nodded gravely. "I couldn't believe it either, so I made a point of studying as many men as I could-"

"That's enough!"

Gotta respect a fellow scientist.

So, you see, smiling and chuckling WILL happen while you read this.
The world is a fantasy world with all kinds of critters including elves and dragons. There is a map at the beginning of a book, which is usually a big red flag to me. I am not a fan of having to cross-reference when I read, so if there are glossaries, maps, lists of characters to keep them all straight, pronunciation guides, etc... I am reluctant. I want to get lost in a book, not need to stop every page to look shit up. It's not a freaking dissertation. Also, I'm not a man. Maps, routes, flags, magic, and weather don't hold some magical power over me.

This is why I usually prefer Urban Fantasy. But, in this case, the magical world helped the book have that fairy tale feel that made it so appealing.

The main characters are both likable. He is OTT heroic with a super-power that makes him unable to be hugged.... .awww. She is an ex-orphan who is sweet and innocent and will sacrifice herself for the father she just met.... adorable...

Now, I'm not going to mention that this same father KNEW she was alive in an orphanage the whole time and that he kept her twin sister with whom he lavished love and gifts upon.... AND that he only came to get Luciana in order to save his own ass and would have left her in the orphanage to rot if not for the twin sister dying.... Nope, not going to mention those things.....

I eventually forgave him.

The characters are all likable, there is plenty of action, and the romance is cute. The whole book has a fairy-tale feel, but has modern humor. I'm excited to read the rest of this series as it comes out.

Ladies and gentlemen…we have a WINNER!!

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days was bloody awesome. I was picked up from my world and dragged into another, where good fights evil, love conquers all and what you see isn’t what you get. We are treated to a paranormal fantasy romance that captures your attention from the first page. The settings, dress and hierarchy made it feel like a historical romance which was something that I loved. The characters are made up of ordinary people mixed in with the extraordinary. I loved stepping into this world and I honestly didn’t want to leave. Lucky for me…this is just the start.

I have attempted to write this review for more than an hour. It’s just not working how I want it to. I want you to nod your head and say - ooh, I love that too (in my favourite reads). I want you to think - I love historical romance, maybe a paranormal fantasy wouldn't be so bad after all. I want you to read my mind and see what I saw, felt what I felt and lived what I lived...from the very first page.

Let’s just say I was BUZZING!!

I loved meeting the characters in the story. The strength and courage they showed living with abilities they were born with but punished for having. Seeing their vulnerability when they are ostracised and shunned because they are different. Amazed at their ability to forgive the uninformed and ignorant. Frustrated when one too many turned their back on the characters and made them feel hated, unlovable and disgusting.

The storyline was exciting and full of action and adventure. There was never a time that it dragged or felt unnecessary. I was dying to get back to it every time life got in the way and I had to shut down my kindle. As the pages turned I wanted and needed to know more.

The love story and intimacy is slow-burning but completely understandable. When that first connection comes it is pure magic. I needed it as much as the characters did. My heart settled and my smile grew. Even Beasts deserve happiness. Even the unwanted can feel needed.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days was fantastic and I can’t wait for more in the series. I know this review is a bit of a bloody mess, but I’m sure you’ve worked out that I really, really loved it.

No matter how much he wanted this woman, no matter how much he felt she was destined for him, he could never touch her. His heart squeezed painfully in his chest. How cruel of fate to reveal her to him only to keep her beyond his reach.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s totally different from Ms. Sparks Love at Stake series, but just as entertaining.

I liked both main characters, Luciana who grew up in a convent and who can communicate with the dead and Leo who is known as the Beast of Benwick, with the power to harness lightning and who kills with a mere touch.

“You have no idea how much I want you.” He leaned close enough that she could see the determined glint in his eyes. “At first, I thought it was only your body I wanted. But something about you has made me greedy as hell. I want everything. Your love. Your mind. Your secrets. Your soul.”

I really enjoyed their romance and I appreciated that despite their instant attraction their romance was a slow-burn with many sweet and funny moments. With Leo unable to touch Luciana without hurting or killing her it was so romantic seeing their longing for each other but unable to do anything about it.

The world-building was greatly done with a fantasy feel to it, which was wonderful. The Embraced, humans with magic, were very interesting and I really want to know more. Also there were dragons, very briefly, but still…DRAGONS!! I also liked all the secondary characters, Luciana’s sisters in the convent and Brutus who is Leo’s friend and I hope we get to see more of them.

This was a pretty solid introduction to a fantasy PNR series which shows much promise and I’m looking forward to the next book.

This was my first Kerrelyn Sparks novel and with complete certainty I can say that it will not be my last. Her words sucked me into this world of good and evil and introduced me to the creatures that fight for both sides. I never once stopped to question what was happening or how these things were possible, the writing was just that good.

In this time of insta-love this book was a breath of fresh air and I really enjoyed seeing Leo and Luciana explore each other slowly. Their relationship had a pretty even pace throughout the whole book and I loved the build up of it. It made getting to the end even better and was one of the reasons I wasn't able to put the book down once I started.

I love finding new authors and whoever at St. Martins Press sent me this book I could just hunt down and hug for putting this author on my radar. I can't wait for the next book in the series so before that releases I'll hopefully have some time to go read Ms. Sparks earlier work. This is a definite recommend from me and if you're a fan of other-worldly romances than you need to pick this one up.

4.25 Taming Stars

This is my first Kerrelyn Sparks book and I can see why a lot of people like her. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is a standalone and is part of The Embraced series.

I don’t remember, but there are five girls involved, they are all introduced in this book. This is Luciana’s story.

Luciana is one of the girls that are Embraced which just means she has a power. Her father was scared for her so he hid her away in a convent. There she befriend several girls, like her. Luciana (Ana) is adorable because she grew up in a convent, she is very sheltered and somewhat naïve. I like Luciana’s heart and I like her youthful personality. It’s why I read these books.

Leo is considered a Beast. He can shoot lightning from his finger tips and because of this he can’t touch anyone. I know right? I gobbled this storyline like up! He an easy person to get to know, but he loves his people and now he is betrothed.

The beginning starts off with a lot of character development. You get a feel of what the book is about and kind of world it is. There are humans and even an elf. Some have powers and its usually different kinds, like animal shifting.

I liked Ana and I liked Leo, but because of the no-touch rule, it’s a slow burn novel. Someone is out to get Ana and I like the mysterious element of the book. I also liked reading about her interacting with other characters. I usually don’t care for the side characters, but I felt like they were a part of the story and I hope they get their own books.

There is a slow tug and pull between Ana and Leo, so if you like books with a huge buildup, this one is for you. I liked that mostly Leo was bewitched with Ana and even though he didn’t fully get her, he wanted her. I’m always a fan of the Hero chasing after the Heroine.

Overall, it was a fun book.

An ARC was provided by St. Martin’s Press and I volunteered to review.

Now, this here question's for all those old school readers like myself.

Remember the books we used to read?
The ones written in the 80s and 90s? possibly even the early 2000s?
The books that when we first started seemed so, out there?
The ones we read in secret from our mothers?
Those first books that had us gasping with big wide eyes?

That old school gold?

“At first, I thought it was only your body I wanted. But something about you has made me greedy as hell. I want everything. Your love. Your mind. Your secrets. Your soul.”

I don't know how she did it. But Kerrelyn Sparks managed to capture that old magic and spin it back into the words.

I love the modern style of writing that has gained a lot of coverage in the past years but if I could be honest, I'd say, the racier and adult these books keep getting, the more I miss the past. The books that back then would cause a sensation but compare to books of the present they would be considered so tame it wouldn't really be a fit comparison.

This writing style was very new from Kerrelyn, very different from her other books. But obviously, it was fantastic.

“Never try to understand a woman. It will drive you insane, and you still won’t understand.”

Ain't that the truth? ;)

As for the plot, well it wasn't anything new (albeit with a paranormal twist) but

It was kinda insta-insta and yet kinda slow but yea, the romance could have been better and yet

5 - Never touch the Beast... Stars!

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is the start of what I am expected to be a long and extremely enjoyable reading relationship between myself and Kerrelyn Sparks.

I have nothing negative to say about this book, it was my first read from the author, and what a way to start, I finished Leo and Luciana’s story excited too read more from her. This is a hard book to give much of an informative review on, because of the amount of story that happens in it, there is the potential to post an inadvertent spoiler.

"Something about you has made me greedy as hell. I want everything. Your love. Your mind. Your secrets. Your soul…"

But what I can say is that it is like nothing I have ever read before, I was hooked from the first page, this is quite a long book by today’s standards, and there wasn’t any part of it where I wanted to put down my Kindle, in fact the only reason I didn’t finish it in one sitting was that I was falling asleep on the sofa.

"There is only one thing I need to know. And I will have the truth, understand...?
Do you want me as your husband?"

I loved Leo, and I loved the way the relationship between him and Ana built so steadily, there is so much going on in this story, and with Leo and Ana themselves that it just added to the anticipation of everything building between them. Ghosts, witches, shifters, elf's, dragons, you name it and it was probably in the story at some point. But I loved it, a lot is going on in Aerthlan with the Five Kingdoms, and there were a large number of characters involved in the telling of this story because of it, and I think it is indicative of how hugely skilled the author is, that not once was I confused as to what was going on and who was involved.

"Keep her safe."

Nothing makes me happier than discovering an author that I connect with on the level I did when reading this book, and what makes me even happier that this is an author that has a huge back catalogue for me to explore while I am waiting for the second book in The Embraced series to be released. So I Married a Sorcerer is due for release in August, and you can be sure I will be at the front of the queue to read it!

3.5 So much potential!

I liked this read, it was pretty interesting. It was a bit more than a typical fantasy romance (dunno how to call this thing), but it wasn't fantasy enough for my taste.

I get it, I get it, it's not suppose to be fantasy, it's supposed to focus on the romance, not the story or the world, blah blah blah. And don't get me wrong, I liked it just the way it was, it just felt like it's missing something.

Probably the chemistry between characters or the questions I still have about the plot. It didn't really make me go all ga-ga for the couple.

Worth a try though, it's a fun, entertaining read.

In a world where magic is despised, a group of magically blessed young woman are thrust from the safety of their lives on an island sanctuary into the world that would see the destroyed for their abilities.

Luciana never knew she had a twin or a family that sent her away for her safety. When her sister is murdered, her father barely escapes, but he must ask Luciana to enter this world that would see her dead in order to save a family she never knew…but beyond that, she must marry the Beast of Benwick to save her father’s life.

Sparks is back with a brand new series that has a compelling historical, light fantasy flare. Magic and mayhem take place in a world controlled by dictators that fear both magic and mayhem.

Light, playful, and highly entertaining, HOW TO TAME A BEAST IN SEVEN days was utterly enjoyable. While Sparks provided her classic world building and humor filled characters to back up the adventure and romance.

My only complaints, it was an insta-love situation as well as a bit repetitive, which kept me from loving it.

If you are a fan of Sparks, this is a must read! For all others, you must check out this new set of quirky characters in Spark's' THE EMBRACED SERIES.

I received this ARC copy of How to Tame A Beast In Seven Days from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. How to Tame A Beast In Seven Days is set for publication March 7, 2017.

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***

Summary (from Goodreads):

Luciana grew up on the Isle of Moon, hidden away because of her magical powers. But when her father arrives, he offers her a choice: remain on the island or return with him and marry the Beast of Benwick in order to save their legacy—and her father's life.

Lord Leofric, the Beast of Benwick, has not been touched since he was a child. Born with the power to harness lightning, he is a danger to everyone he touches. When he meets his betrothed, he expects a loveless, lonely marriage...until he discovers she's vastly more powerful than he realized. But is she strong enough to withstand his touch?

If they can survive, their love will alter the future of the kingdom. But will their extraordinary powers cost them everything?

What I Liked:

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is a funny, swoony, and sweet romance novel that is sure to charm readers. It's a quick read that will have you smiling throughout the story. I can't remember the last time I read a book (adult novel or otherwise) and felt light and happy during the entire thing. This book always had a light, hopeful, upbeat tone to it, even when there was the occasional dangerous scene. I really liked this book!

Luciana grew up on the Isle of Moon in a convent with several other orphaned girls. She is Embraced, which means she has extraordinary magical powers. The story opens with her father arriving at the convent to take her with him. It turns out, she has a father, and she had a twin sister, but the twin, Tatiana, died. Luciana goes with her father in order to save him; if she doesn't pretend to be her dead twin Tatiana, and wed the Beast of Benwick, her father will be killed and the Vindalyn holdings would be seized by the greedy king. Leofric of Benwick, Lord Protector of the Realm, has quite the reputation. He is Embraced, and his touch kills. He gets struck by lightning and absorbs the power of the lightning, which makes him extremely powerful and extremely deadly. But Luciana finds that he is not the monster everyone makes him out to be. He is selfless and willing to die for her and her father, as well as the people he serves, as Lord Protector. Their marriage was ordered by the king, but no one expected them to fall for each other.

The beginning is a little slow, but once Luciana and Leo meet (unofficially and then officially), I was really hooked. Their interactions were always interesting - and I was dying to know when Leo would find out who Luciana really was (remember, she is pretending to be her twin sister, who is actually dead).

From the start, I knew I would like Luciana. She is so sweet and kind, and she has the interests of her convent sisters and her father at heart. She drops everything to save her father, even if it meant marrying the Beast of Benwick. And even in meeting Leo and getting to know him, Luciana looks at him with an open mind and an open heart. I love how sweet Luciana is. It's rare that you'll find a sweet yet assertive heroine in romance novels - too often, she's either too assertive and bossy, or too innocent and naive. Luciana is a great combination of the two.

Oh Leo. Leo is my favorite of this book. He is so complex and different, and my heart broke for him. Every time someone referred to him as the Beast, or whispered or pointed or assumed something bad about him... worse still was when he would call himself a monster and think of himself in such a negative light. The poor man needed a hug! No one has really touched him since he was very young. He is isolated, and yet he is incredibly selfless and brave. He's a noble warrior with a good heart, and it's really too bad that everyone is terrified of him. He's such a good guy. He's also quite the wicked charmer, once one gets past his mask of indifference.

You probably can already tell, but this is based on Beauty and the Beast! Hence the sweet heroine and the isolated, tortured hero. Leo isn't actually a "beast" - he's a young, handsome young man - but he has the power to kill anyone with his lightning touch. But he's also incredible powerful, with all of the lightning he can harness. Luciana's power as an Embraced seems to be discerning the future, though she isn't quite proficient. She can also see and speak to ghosts.

I love the cast of secondary characters! Nevis, Leo's best friend, is hilarious (and eats with no shame, which is always funny). Brody, another friend of Leo's, is a sweetheart, and he's an enigma too. Luciana's father the Duke is a nice man, and she and him grow close despite not knowing each other for nineteen years. There are important ghosts in the story - yep, you read that correctly. Luciana's dead twin, Tatiana becomes an important secondary character. I liked seeing her and Luciana grow closer, despite Tatiana being an utter brat, initially.

One of the things that worried me a little was how Luciana's deception was going to impact Leo. It turns out that Tatiana was a spoiled, selfish brat, and she had a lover. Luciana, on the other hand, is a sweet and polite girl who was raised in a convent (and therefore, a virgin). I was worried about what Leo would think of "Tatiana" and when he would find out that "Tatiana" is actually Luciana. BUT I think the author did a great job with the reveal, and the timing of the reveal. Leo actually starts to pick up fairly quickly on the fact that "Tatiana" is not who she says she is.

The romance is so sweet! I feel like I'm overusing the word "sweet", but the romance can definitely be described as sweet. Luciana falls in love with Leo very quickly, which didn't bother me at all. The title says "seven days" and that is actually how long they have, from meeting each other, to getting married. The story goes on for a month after the wedding, but all of the falling in love occurs in a week. This worked for the story, and didn't feel rushed at all (despite the fact that it was only seven days). Leo and Luciana develop a strong emotional connection from the start. Leo is pretty much a goner upon first sight. Luciana quickly realizes that Leo is a good man, and her kind disposition lends itself to her keeping an open mind with him. The romance is sweet and chemistry between the pair is pretty steamy. Not the most fiery of romances, but they have their moments. They have great chemistry, for a sweet, cute pair.

I also liked how both protagonists develop internally. Luciana develops a relationship with her father, her sister (a ghost), and her dead mother (also a ghost). She has a whole family that she never had before, in addition to a handsome husband. And Leo - he's gone years without being touched, or loved. He's also withdrawn into himself. I had so much respect for Leo as he continued to serve everyone, despite everyone being afraid of him or blaming him for things he didn't even do. The author did an amazing job with the character development of both of these protagonists, with all of their issues in the past, and present.

The plot aside for the romance has to do with the selfish, murdering king who wants older, powerful land holdings for himself. The Duke (Luciana's father) has a lot of power and a lot of land. The king sends assassins to kill both Luciana and her father many times. The king also wants Leo dead since Leo is a direct heir to the throne (he is the king's nephew), among other reasons. So the climax of the book comes down to Leo and Luciana fighting for their lives.

Overall, I was quite pleased with this book! It was cute and light, funny and sweet. I love Beauty and the Beast retellings, and this one did not disappoint.

What I Did Not Like:

This isn't really a complaint because I'm satisfied in general (really, I am!), but I would have loved a little more steam in the romance. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple of sex scenes and smoldering non-sex scenes, but I wouldn't have minded more. There was really only one major sex scene and I feel like there should always be two or three. But again, this isn't really a complaint because the author did a good job with the chemistry, in general.

Would I Recommend It:

I definitely recommend this book to those who love adult romance. This is a fantasy romance set in medieval times, so it's kind of historical fantasy romance. There is plenty of magic (abilities, shifters, dragons, elves), plenty of humor, and plenty of swoon between Leo and Luciana. I dare you not to fall in love with Leo! I think he's a new favorite book boyfriend.

Also... the guy on the cover is a perfect Leo. I don't usually comment on a book's cover because the author has no control over that, and often times, the cover models don't quite match the character. But the cover model of this book's cover pretty much matches the Leo in my head. Maybe the hair could be a little more red but in general, he is perfect!

Rating:

4.5 stars. I'm trying to decide if I want to round up or down, and my general thing is that if I'm undecided, I'll round down for the time being. This book is more than likely going to end up in my top ten adult novels of 2017, at the end of the year! I am definitely looking forward to reading So I Married a Sorcerer.

This book was so much fun to read! This is the first book that I have read by Kerrelyn Sparks and I am now thinking that I have probably been missing out on a very good thing. This book caught my attention right away with the fun title and when I picked it up to take a closer look, I was immediately hooked. I actually read half the book without even realizing it because I simply couldn't put it down.

This book focuses on Luciana and Lord Leofric, or the Beast. Luciana has lived her life on the Isle of Moon at a convent with her friends that she considers her sisters. She is shocked to meet her father but recovers quickly and agrees to go with him and marry the Beast. The Beast has led a life where he is feared by others because of his powers. He has rarely been touched by others since coming into his power because he is so dangerous.

I really liked the characters in this book. Luciana and Leofric were both wonderful. Each of them had really interesting abilities that really added a layer to their characters. Luciana was such a caring person from the very beginning of the story when she gives up her life to protect the father she didn't even know she had. Leofric is thought to be heartless and tough. It quickly becomes apparent that he cares about others deeply but must distance himself out of fear of causing harm. He leads a rather lonely life until he meets Luciana.

I liked Luciana and Leofric as a couple. They did fall for each other quite quickly but I wasn't bothered by that in this particular story. They had a nice banter with each other and Luciana did not fear the Beast as others did. They had a lot of chemistry from the very first time they saw each other and it only grew throughout the story. I had a lot of fun watching this pair get to know each other.

I really enjoyed the world this book was set in. The special abilities of the characters were a lot of fun and added an interesting element to the story. I liked the almost medieval feel to the kingdom complete with evil king. The supporting characters in the story were very well done and I hope to see some of them featured in future books in this series.

I would highly recommend this book to others. This was the kind of book that just swept me away into a fantastical world of romance. I can't wait to read more in this exciting series!

I received an advance reader edition of this book from St. Martin's Press.

Initial Thoughts
I had a lot of fun with this one. The characters were great and I loved the chemistry between them. Great start to a new series!

My first Kerrelyn Sparks, and it was FUN! A light fantasy read in a historical-ish setting, I'll certainly be looking for more stories in this world.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days brings me back to the days when I devoured Kresley Cole and Sherrilyn Kenyon. This book was exciting and entertaining with a tortured hero just looking for a woman to love him (though he doesn't know it yet, natch), and a virginal girl who is able to do just that. But the female MC is no simple pushover, and I liked the details of the world of the "embraced."

Magic and paranormal creatures abound, as well as villainous villains and second chances at relationships. The book reads easily, and I was into the story enough not to want to put it down all day. It isn't the smartest or the snappiest read that I've encountered recently, but I didn't care because I was drawn into the story.

My only real sticking point was the jump to love after a few brief interactions. The rush to the "love" emotions is always a sticking point for me with these kinds of stories, and I was cringing at how fast the two MCs got there. This isn't instalove, not exactly, but I honestly need more relationship building at this point in my reading career.

If you are looking for a fun, easy read in an exciting new fantasy-lite world, look no further. This book was pure enjoyment, and I'll be tuning in to the rest of the series.

I think I see what the author wanted this book to be: a fun, slightly farcical, heart-string-pulling, historical fantasy romance. Unfortunately, for me, it ever so slightly missed the mark on all counts. I didn't quite find the events or the tone to be funny, or angsty, or romantic, or tragic. Everything seemed off kilter to the point that all I was reading was cheese.

But I can definitely see how some people would find it charming . . . too bad my jaded heart is not one of them.

"How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days" by Kerrelyn Sparks is book One in the "The Embraced" series.  This is the story of Luciana and Leo.  I must say this book hooked me in pretty fast and I could not put it down...I had to read it until I was done.  What a great book to start what appears to be a great Series by Ms. Sparks!Luciana grew up on  Isle of Moon along with a few other girls with special powers.  They are all close and feel like sister but each one is starting to have their own adventure and to deal with their unknown past.  Luciana father comes for her a man she never met or knew that he was alive.  But her father needs her now to save him, his land and his people.  Luciana finds that she is the key to a marriage that will save her father and all that he holds dear. But Luciana learns she must pretend to be her sister who is now dead.  Can Luciana pretend to be her sister who other than looks... has no similar trait?Leo is known as the Beast because he is rumored to have killed his mother and nanny along with others.   The King wants him to marry.  But Leo knows there is a reason behind it,  as the King is evil. Leo fears that he would hurt his future wife if he touches her but he finds her so attractive that he is having a hard time dealing with his fear. Luciana too finds Leo attractive and worries that her secrets will become an issue.Leo was a strong, hurt yet loving with an Alpha Male attitude toward Luciana.  I loved watching these too come together. I so loved the secondary characters and hope to see their story next!!"My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...  https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H... https://romancebookreviewforyou.wordp... https://www.tumblr.com/blog/romancebo...

A new series from this author and I'm happily onboard. A land divided into kingdoms that either worship the sun or the two moons with the moons eclipsing twice a year with magical results. Trouble is those children born on those magical nights are filled with supernatural powers that are both feared and envied. These children are called the Embaced and Luciana just happens to be one of them. Luciana has grown up hidden away believing herself an orphan but her world is shattered when a man claiming to be her father shows up and wants her to travel to court with him to meet her intended husband ! Luciana has a kind heart and agrees but her intended is also Embraced and his electric touch has earned him the title Beast of Benwick with even the King wanting him dead!
For Leo growing up Embraced has earned him a fearsome reputation but more heartbreaking is his inability to touch anyone without causing them harm and even death. Yet he's steadfast in his loyalty to the country he helps protect and his compassion towards innocents extends to the most unfortunate woman who has been chosen as his bride. Trouble is there's something odd going on and it's clear his intended is hiding something but what exactly is it?
A new series always has a lot to set up but happily the romance wasn't hindered by that too much here. It was fun seeing the two sides of Leo as he's this big, tough, almost impossible to kill Lord Protector but there's such a caring more gentle side to him and the author plays a blinder when right from the start she injects humour into his interactions with his friends. Luciana too was a very likeable heroine and as a reader we know she carries secrets that make things incredibly difficult for her at times. Perhaps she's a bit too nice but this is fantasy with a light , delicate touch , plus the baddies are really nasty so it balances out quite nicely.
I really did enjoy this story and as the plot all happens so quickly it was easy to be drawn in although as it raced to the end a twist suddenly appeared. Clearly Luciana isn't the only Embraced female and the author sets up quite nicely for more in this series but I suspect a certain someone resembling a pirate will have my fellow readers keen to find out what happens next.
This voluntary take is of an advance reader arc from Netgalley and is my honest opinion

New series, new worlds, new species. Great start to this series. It was a little slow in parts but that's to be expected since we are learning all new stuff. Loved Luciana and Lord Leo. They were amazing together. Plus her "sisters" are going to make great heroines in their own HEAs. I'm hoping Ms. Sparks saves one for Brody.

At last !
After (only two ?) long years of dry spell since her ultimate Love at Stake novel, Kerrelyn Sparks finally delivers the first installment of her brand new series.
I must admit I was a bit nervous.
I always felt at home in her universe, and her books were the intellectual equivalent of some nice comfort food for me.
So. As impatient as I got, I also dreaded disappointment.
But after a first chapter that left me a bit worried, the story got up to speed and there it was : the magic worked again. Different world and characters, different plot and time setting, same style and fun.
In the world of paranormal romance, you've got a lot of classics, like vampires and shape-shifters.
Heroic fantasy ?
Not so much. And boy, did I like the change :)
The advertisement mentioned GOT mixed with Princess Bride. (Hot modern reference and ultimate classic). I won't deny those to the book, but If you're looking for references, you should find something from Willow, Ladyhawke, Heralds of Valdemar... even a bit of Marvel and DC.
I know. Don't let my odd old fashioned tastes frighten you. Have a look, get hooked ;).

This is a new fantasy series by Kerrelyn Sparks and I am here for it. It felt different from the other series I have read by her but this book was just as enjoyable as those other series.

In this book, children born on a moon eclipse were considered "embraced" and were executed because they were deemed dangerous. So a few parents managed to sneak their embraced children off to a convent on a close island to be raised in secret. This series introduces the reader to five embraced girls living on the Isle of Moon, Luciana, Maeve, Brigitta, Sorcha and Gwennore. These girls are so close they consider themselves sisters

One day, a man shows up to the Isle of Moon claiming to be Luciana's father. He tells her why they had to give her away but now asks her to return with him in order to save his life from a corrupt King. Part of her mission to impersonate her twin sister Tatiana, who was supposed to be to wed a warrior known as the Beast of Benwick. The Beast was rumored to kill with a single touch but somehow Luciana was expected to win him over. The problem was that Luciana was opposite in temperament from her twin, Tatiana. That was part of the entertaining part of this story, Luciana trying to be someone else, yet her inherent goodness kept shining through.

Leofric of Benwick, the nephew of the evil king felt a connection the minute he laid eyes on his bethrod. However, his lightning power is also his curse. He can't touch anyone without frying them with his lightning touch. But he wants to be touched and by his intended, so that was a dilemma that he had to overcome.

But the author threw in some humorous sidekicks to make this adventure that much more entertaining. Leo's best warriors and Luciana's sister provided comic relief. Each character had an ability that helped them aid both Leo and Luciana. The author did a great job weaving this fantasy with a sense of adventure, humor and romance. It was really balanced and developed well. This was a really great start to a new series. I can't wait to see what direction the author will take the adventure in book two.

Special thanks to St. Martin's Press via Netgalley for the book given in exchange for an honest review.

I've been suffering from a bout Paranormal Romance burnout these past few months, but I decided to roll the dice with HOW TO TAME A BEAST IN SEVENS DAYS in the hope that it wouldn't come up snake eyes. My risk was twofold because Sparks is also a new-to-me author. I couldn't have picked a better title to break the ice with! The world-building was whimsical with its inviting characters, and darling love story.

Luciana grew up in a convent, and had believed that she was an orphan until her father showed up on the Isle of Moon. Due to her upbringing, the heroine's soul is as white as freshly fallen snow which made her transition from a secluded island to the mainland with all its politics, and royal machinations a huge shock to her system. I enjoyed observing her efforts, minor slip-ups, and eventual triumph.

The hype surrounding the Beast of Benwick made the match with the Duke of Vindalyn's daughter all the more appalling on account of the sharp contrast. Leo's mistrust of his betrothed, and the reason why the King paired them up further added to the conspiracy. It seemed like their arranged marriage was doomed to fail until the basis for the lies surfaced, and they realized they were stronger together.

I'm purposely avoiding commenting on the EMBRACED aspects, and why Ana was stowed away for nineteen years because this is the first installment in the series, and I don't want to give anything away. That being said, I really liked Brody, and with four other "sisters" waiting in the wings, it seems a safe bet to assume that readers can expect at least five books. My only complaint was the length. It just kept going and going...

HOW TO TAME A BEAST IN SEVEN DAYS allowed me to finally discover Kerrelyn Sparks' writing!

This book was a fun and quick fantasy read! I was in the mood for a fantasy set in a historical time period, and this book hit the spot. The world that the author created in this book was very interesting. I loved learning about the magic in this medieval world. The magical powers that the characters possessed added a very intriguing element to the story. I was fully invested in the world and what it had to offer. I would like to see even more world building in the next book!

I liked the two main characters in this book, Leofric and Luciana. Luciana was such a sweetheart, and I couldn't help but adore her and root for her. She was so caring and understanding. I really admired how dedicated she was to the people she loved and how far she was even willing to go for strangers. She wasn't a pushover either, which I appreciated. Leofric was labeled as a "beast" who was tough and cruel. It was nice to see beneath that hard exterior and learn that he was actually a caring man. Learning about his motives made him a lot more relatable and even swoon worthy.

Luciana and Leofric had a sweet romance. Their chemistry was obvious, especially when they would have delicious banter. In the beginning, I thought the romance had a nice build up, but eventually felt rushed. I was surprised with how quickly they became emotionally invested in each other. It was just a little hard for me to believe.

Overall, this was an entertaining and easy read. If you are looking for a quick fantasy book to jump into, I would recommend checking this out!

Here's the plot: Girl grows up thinking she's an orphan, but she's not. She has a father, dead twin sister, and oh, she needs to pretend to be the dead twin she never met and marry a man they call the Beast. While also keeping the secret that she sees dead people. That's Luciana.

The Beast, Leo, is the nephew of the evil king and can harness the power of lightening. Not like Storm from X-Men, more like he's a battery that lightening charges up and then he can shoot lightening bolts. He also can't touch anyone with bare hands or they die. And the king is constantly trying to assassinate him. So Leo really isn't looking forward to marriage since he can't touch anyone, kind of puts a damper on the wedding night.

I liked this book because it was unique, the characters were interesting and had a good rapport, and there were constant assassinate plots to uncover. The main characters were cute in their courtship. Enjoyed the side characters and it was all nicely ended with a HEA.

Luciana has been raised as an orphan on an isolated island. She's content and has found family with other girls. But everything changed - on a dark and stormy night of course.

Her father is a jerk at first.

Her sister is a piece of work. They were twins.

Spiteful ghost. When will she move on?
Tatiana stomped a foot silently. “I should go to his palace in Ebton and sneak into his rooms. Yes!” She lifted her arms, her hands curled into claws. “I’ll haunt him without mercy. He’ll never know a minute of peace again!”

A paranoid king. A true politician.
A cruel, land grabbing prince. He's like a cruel real estate developer.

The Beast of Benwick.
Never touch the Beast.
Never let the Beast touch you.

Luciana is too eager to please. And gullible. Poor kid.

Elves!!! Yaaaas Shifters!!! Neat. Imposters

Moving slowly

Failure means death. Wow! Provocative beast

These two need marital counselling.
“I apologize for alarming you,” he said softly. “I thought you would be asleep.”
“You hoped to stab me in my sleep?”

They speak of trust but keep collecting more secrets.

These two have to be the nicest chatacters ever. Seriously. Nothing bothers them.
Luciana is more than a people pleaser. She is kind, diplomatic, brave and excellent at managing people.
Leo was dedicated to his people, clever, a survivor with quick wit.

Christopher was super cute.

But it's everything happening around them that elevates the book to extraordinary. There are plenty of magical creatures, mysteries to solve, assassinations to thwart, regimes to topple, secrets to uncover...you get the gist.

I really, really hope the next book is about Brody and Maeve. He stole the show...or will it be story?

Now this was a long book - over 1,00,000 words but I like epic reads and losing myself in a book. My only complaint was the pace - things move gradually and some stuff was repeated. Miffed Smurf alert.

Overall this has the potential to be a wonderful, fantasy romance series.

Leo also known as the Beast of Benwick, has been feared for most of his life. Where when he was five years old was struck by lightning and his body was changed and hasn't been able to touch or hold anyone sine his touch can harm or even kill. He starts to realize that she is powerfully gifted but will she be strong and able enough to survive his touch
Plot and Story Line
How To Tame A Beast in Seven Days is the first book of a new series by one of my favorite authors Kerrelyn Sparks. Now granted, this book was so unique different and not what I was expecting. She has kinda switched genres from vampires and shape shifters to a whole different realm of fantasy where dragons exist and being magically gifted is a death sentence by the king. And boy did I fall madly in love with this book very quickly. The first impression I had about this book was the bond that these girls have with each other. We have five women that were born in a unique time that made them Embraced and they are each gifted. Our heroine of the story Luciana (such a gorgeous name) has the ability to see certain moments in the future as well as see and interact with ghosts. She finds out her true heritage and so she returns home with her father planning on marrying a man she has never met. Now Luciana having been raised in a convent has no clue what to expect from a marriage with him. There aren't any men there and has never interacted with them. So she is pretty innocent at times but is intelligent and kind. I loved Luciana so very much. Now we have our hero. He is quite the character. He is pretty tough, not a man you want to cross but also has some close friendships and has some extreme power inside him. I love how protective he is yet he is starved for any physical touch. The world that Kerrelyn Sparks has created a world of ghosts, dragons, elves, shifters, and magic and I was drawn completely into it. Sparks has surprised me with this book and her plans for this series has me super super excited!!
The Cover
I honestly don't mind anything about this cover....I do love those pecs and abs....yep I wouldn't mind keeping him.
Overall View
How To Tame A Beast in Seven Days is part of a uniquely crafted romance that is stunning in detail, thrills and chills, captivating characters that endears the reader...not a book you will want to to put down. STUNNING!!

2 ~ Too Much Going On ~ Stars
As a sci-fi/fantasy romance, this had a little bit of everything. There's action, humor, conspiracy, magic, and a sweet love story. Normally this is a recipe for awesomeness but unfortunately this one didn't click with me for a few reasons...

The prologue started off a bit choppy and monotonous. I think it had an interesting concept but didn't lend any mystery or suspense to the overall history of the made up world of Aerthlan. With the right amount of detail this could be an awesome entry into this other world.

Then there's the MCs. In the world of Aerthlan, Luciana is a sheltered 19 year old Embraced girl (Embraced are those born during the eclipse of the twin moons who have special powers.) She can see and talk to dead people and can predict the future. She and five other girls, each one also Embraced, have grown up as orphans in the island of Moon. Raised by nuns who worship the twin goddresses Luna and Lessa. The mainlanders, refusing to worship female gods, instead worship the male Sun god. Because of a law that all Embraced should be executed, the girls have lived in secret and isolation for their whole lives.

Luciana learns she was a twin, separated at birth and because of her sister's death, her estranged father needs her to pose as the dead Tatiana and marry the King's nephew or her father and all his people will be executed. So we start off with a lie by omission that causes a really long and drawn out confession of the who, what, where and why.

The Hero in the story is 26 year old Leo. He is the Lord Protector and also Embraced. I actually liked Leo, his gift was absorbing lightening and being able to use it as a defensive mechanism. He was magnetic and because of his level of energy, his simple touch could cause people shocks, render them unconscious and sometimes even electrocute them to death. He was definitely the most interesting of the MCs. His struggles living without the simple comfort of touch was heartbreaking.

Although both characters were interesting, I never really connected to either one. The reason being there was soooo much going on here that happened both on and off scene that the momentum never really picked up. For example there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Aside from the MCs, there was the extended family from both sides, two villains, several conspiracies that overlapped, a couple of assassination attempts and a handful of side characters. What really slowed it down for me was that Luciana and Leo don't meet until a very long 38% into the story.

It felt like the author tried to fit a lot of plot twists into the story and they were all good but needed to be fleshed out more. Like instead of having twenty different things crop up randomly throughout the story, maybe pick just a few and work with that. It was all over the place and really convoluted. It almost appeared aimless, there was no solid direction with the characters jumping from one scenario into the next without any transition. Then there was the very modern slang peppered throughout the story that felt out of place. Things like "down to earth", the term boyfriend, and "scared shitless". It felt too modern for the world the author originally introduced.

Loved the idea of the Embraced and the bits and pieces we get about the other five kingdoms but everything else seemed too overdone. Too much is not always the answer. Sometimes simple is better.

I didn't hate this read, it was actually pretty good. I feel like it just needs to be more focused on one piece of the puzzle at a time, rather than trying to solve everything instantly. It needs some suspense and mystery before the big reveal is done. The series definitely has potential with the rest of the Embraced sisters but the story needs to choose a solid direction to go in so it doesn't appear so random.

Safety: There is no cheating, OM/OW drama and ends with a epilogue months later.

It's really tough to write bad reviews. Especially bad reviews on books that I end up feeling like the only black sheep.

I picked up How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days because so many of my friends loved it, and I went into the book with a lot of excitement.

It started out great, with an interesting premise, an interesting beginning of the world - but ultimately faltered by half way.

There are a few things I really dislike in my books and it's like this one hit each one with a nail on the head.

1. Insta-love - The characters fall in love almost right away. She was drawn to him by just seeing him and was already claiming love after only talking to him twice? Five days in, two conversations later and the poor girl Luciana couldn't live without Leo. She was so terribly in love with the man of her dreams, who happened to be the man she was being forced to marry.

2. Rapid Fire Writing - what else would you call this? umm... Hectic writing? I don't know how to explain this, but it's when things happen so quickly and so much at a time it makes your head spin, but things also get resolved within a first few paragraphs and we move on to more really quick scenes, you know what I mean? I hate that. I feel like the author was trying to smash together too many things into one book and it kind of ended up a big giant mess. First, she didn't have to put so many things in one book. Second, I felt like it left the book with no detail nor substance.

3. Too much drama - seriously, especially near the end. There were just one too many things happening and so quickly, it probably would have been better if one or two big things happened. I felt like I was reading a movie on rewind or cliff notes. A lot of drama was happening in the end there and it was getting resolved so super quickly that my brain was hurting.

4. Plot - Okay this wasn't all that bad, but I had some issues. First, Luciana is being forced to marry in place of her twin dead sister because if she doesn't - her father dies. She accepted her faith, way too easily. Next, she must pretend to be her sister Tatiana, and she ends up being really horrible about it because her sister was a complete opposite. People are suppose to believe that she is one in the same person. The two girls grew up in two different places, so even if they were identical (I am assuming?) there would probably be some differences due to their environment and not enough time had passed between the death and Luciana assuming the role that would make up for these discrepancies. Also, I did not expect the book to resolve the problem with the king as fast as it did. I expected this to be ongoing in the series.

5. World Building -  I was really, really, excited about the world at first. There are many different kingdoms and they are at war...but.. why? I wasn't 100% sure why they kept attacking each other. Maybe I accidentally glazed over that part. There were different regents of the world, but not much is known about any of them, with the exception that the main land does not tolerate the embraced - yet multiple characters are without consequences. I felt the book would be stronger if there was more focus a bit more on world building. I get it, it's just a paranormal romance so technically there isn't a need for complete world building. But, since this is also a fantasy, it really would have benefited from more building.

Overall, I was really excited. I came prepared to love it and really wanted a solid paranormal (fantasy?) . Instead, I found myself rather disappointed. It didn't help that Luciana was the most awkward virgin ever and the love scene made me cringe hard.

I think my favorite part was Brody and the dragon scene. A bit disappointed there wasn't more of it. Instead, most of the story focused on finding assassins or assassination attacks and just, blah..

And this is just a mild annoyance, but the male lead had a head full of red hair... the cover model, doesn't.

Now this totally could just be a me kind of thing and not the book, but for me, there was just too many things that I am not a complete fan of when it comes to books. I will probably give this author another chance as I keep hearing wonderful things about her other series. This review was originally posted on Night Owl Book Cafe

From the title, How to Tame A Beast in Seven Days conjured up expectations of a humorous snarkfest but I quickly discovered it wasn’t. The synopsis had me thinking this was a Beauty and the Beast type story and that wasn’t quite right either since the one threatening her father was the evil king and not the Beast. This was more along the lines of the fantasy fairytale books I devoured in my pre-teens. To my dismay, it read like it was more for that age bracket too, except for the sex scenes which just didn’t really fit and felt added on in an attempt to make the story appeal to an adult reader.

This was a good versus evil scenario where the misunderstood Lord Protector and his fiancée were just sweetness and light through and through and the evil king had the blackest of hearts with not one thing nice to be said about him. It had adventure and sword fights, all the trappings you expect in a fantasy novel, but I just never got that wow feeling I get from a really good fantasy.

Every challenge the characters faced were all conveniently solved with miraculous coincidences found at every turn. When another antagonist showed up to shake things up and set up the next book, our hero who could hit a fly with his lightning bolts miles away, suddenly couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn. The final showdown with the evil king completely fizzled, which was a slight disappointment after all that buildup. I did laugh when the plot hole big enough to fly a starship through that I had been wondering about throughout the entire book was pointed out and shrugged off.

Without all the sex scenes I probably would have liked this as a kid. Since I’m way past the age of sneaking around reading my way through middle school, it ended up being just a bit too young for me and although it was an okay read it wasn’t the awesomesauce one I had hoped for.

OMG, OMG, OMG! No seriously run to the stores and get this book.

I'm honestly not sure what I expected from this book as I'm no stranger to Kerrelyn Spark's writing. I have enjoyed her vamp series and that's why I said 'heck yeah' when the awesome people at SMP offered me a chance to read this earlier. So I am here thanking Luna and Lessa goddesses of the moons who I think moonlight as publishers at SMP... *wink*

The entire standalone, paranormal, fantasy book was full of wit, humor, and so much slow burning good angst from our hero (who does not see himself as such) and heroine. Leo the Beast of Benwick is the Lord Protect of the Realm and NOT because he does an awesome job (but he does!) but because his asshole uncle gave him such high-risk job in an effort to shorten his life span, that is if his nature doesn't do him in first. What makes him special? Well he was born Embraced and that means he was born on a specific day under the moon that gifted him with a magically supernatural ability. An ability that makes him a lightning rod of sorts. As all the storms bring on the lightning which is channel right into him. In turn he uses this harnessed lighting power and wisely uses it to protect the realm (Think Storm from X-men lol). In another effort of assassination plot, the King of the Realm aka asshole uncle decrees his marriage to a daughter of Duke of Vindalyn from kingdom of Eberon, denial of which means death for all parties. So what a girl and boy to do but follow the king's ruling. The problem is Luciana has her own secrets, her own powers (that are kept secret as being Embraced is not a good thing), and her own issues that are just compiled when she has to step up and marry the Beast of Benwick.

Honestly, the entire story was so well developed that no character was left out without a chance to show off to the reader. I have fallen in love not only with the brute and high-handed Beast but with all the secondary characters... no matter how annoying or sneaky some were. Aaaaand if I am not wrong there is so much more to come for some of those characters. But this story was about Luciana and Leo falling in love and in some way in trust with each other. A great deal of the book is them learning to be comfortable around each other and that dance was hilarious to watch. I loved fierceness of Luciana. She never gave up on who she was to the core while maintaining the necessary facade to survive the castle living. After all, she was brought up and raised in secret in a covenant and being put in a role of marrying a stranger while trying to survive through assassination attempt on her life did not give her the right coping mechanisms. However, her Embraced nature has provided her with enough to keep her alive, coupled with Leo looking out for her from the moment he set his eyes on her. The moment that sealed their fate. Fate that was divined.

The story as a whole was FULL of life with not a dull moment. I never felt like any part could have been cut, all of it was necessary and all of it was fun... and surprisingly with a nice dose of feminism. Kerrelyn does a fantastic job of describing all in great detail that doesn't get overly flowy but just enough to set you in the right mood and scene. I was extremely sad when I had to say good bye to the characters but I am hoping to see more of them in the next book... perhaps a peak? Please... no seriously pretty please? Even though I will be fine with not seeing them again by letting them be-- basking in the glow of their totally gushy HEA ending.

The cover is misleading. This is a PNR, but it's got a heavy fantasy vibe. Don't expect people to be ripping their clothes off frequently. The core of the story is the romance, but it's incredibly slow moving. Sometimes it doesn't feel like much of a romance. There was so much to wade through to get to the romance. The two MCs thought about each other a lot but didn't spend much time together until well into the book.

Luciana and Leo were throwing around the words love, at least in their thoughts, after only knowing each other for a few days. They did not know much about each other and were keeping secrets. It was hard to believe it was truly love. Their relationship started with intense insta-lust after seeing each other from a distance. More time should have been spent building their relationship on real things. It was long enough, but too much page time was spent rehashing the same things over and over.

The world building was good. It's an original well fleshed out world. This story only focused on one particular kingdom, so I'm sure there is more to learn about the rest of the world. The romance was okay but wasn't steamy if that's what you're looking for. I liked the characters but didn't love them. The only one of any of them that I'm interested in learning more about is Brody. Hopefully he'll be included in a future book in the series. I may continue it if that happens.

ARC Review: How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days (The Embraced) by Kerrelyn Sparks

How to Tame A Beast in Seven Days is a twist on Beauty and The Beast that is even more beautiful than the original and far more magical than the Disney version. I volunteered to read a copy in exchange for my honest opinion and it was an eye opening experience. I am surprised how much I actually fell in love with this against the odds love story. Am not into the supernatural romance genre but Ms. Sparks latched on to something special with Luciana and Loefric. The characters, the author, the romance kept me spellbound to the point that I breezed through the story in one sitting and am looking forward to a second trip in this otherworldly awe filled tale.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is book one in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks.

A new series by a favorite author. I’ve enjoyed Ms. Sparks Love at Stake series and so I decided to jump into this new series The Embraced.

I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I started reading. I didn’t know that it was Historical Fantasy along with Paranormal Romance and so when I started reading I was unsure about everything, but the more I read the more I ended up liking the world and characters. I have to say this new world is special and I wasn’t disappointed.

Since this is the first book we are introduced to a whole new world, new thinking, new species, religious oppression, the lengths people will go, and peculiar characters. At times the story felt a little slow, but things do pick up and we are taken on a fun adventure. The author had me laughing and falling in love with Luciana and Leo. They were remarkable together and perfect for each other in more ways then one. The EMBRACED aspect was extraordinary and I really liked all the secondary characters; especially the “sisters” introduced. I feel they will all make wonderful heroines someday.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days gives us a mixture of humor, seriousness, understanding, repression, and love. It was creative and a total delight to read.
