Violence is never the answer… unless you’re a Preor warrior.
Rendan sen Tarkan, Offense Master to the Preor Third Fleet, has found his human mate. She is small compared to him, but her curves, delicious scent, and sky blue eyes call out to his soul. He has waited for a female for over two centuries and he will fight—kill—any who dare attempt to take her. Even one of his own males.
One moment Carla Butler was unemployed and the next she was on the Preor battleship, working as a nurse for human-Preor mates. Oh, and the next moment? That was when she found her sexy, alien pink-scaled mate. Then she watched the muscular dragon shifter get beat to hell. And then she was assigned a condo in Preor Tower on Earth. The person in the condo next door? That sexy, alien pink-scaled male.
Learning about the proud alien warrior isn’t trouble free, but it’s easier than almost dying. Yeah, almost. But the Preor who tried to end her life? Well, he doesn’t quit easily. She only hopes Rendan is there to save her when the alien tries to end her life once again.
Part of the DRAGONS OF PREOR series: Jarek Taulan Kozav Rendan
Rendan follows right on the heels of Kozav. It gives us conflict, prejudice, honesty, and love.
WOW. This one was emotional. Oh My! I really enjoyed this story. We get the back story for both our main characters which gives depth to them and their romance. Carla and Rendan both have suffered in one way or another. Rendan’s career makes things a little more difficult, but they eventually find their way.
The Knowing is what drives the series and helps these characters come together. Each story is different, the characters each have different pasts and issues to work through, the world building is gradually, and the romance is hot and steamy.
This book follows hard on the heels of Kozav as yet again it features one of the human nurses who got caught up in the bigotry that was shown to wounded Preor's. Carla is a timid sort but knew the treatment ( or lack of!) of the warriors had been wrong and no longer works at the hospital . No Carla has a new position helping the Preor understand human physiology so that any mates who need medical help will get the best possible attention. What she hadn't expected was to have a huge wounded and very pink warrior claim her and the word mine takes on a whole new significance! I enjoy these stories as they are easy to get drawn into as there's no wasting time just an author who dives in. The world building is gradually building up with each story and admittedly I was surprised that our hero has pink scales but in this authors crazy world anything goes . Such a fun way with words and these stories frequently make me smile. This time though there's a lot of back story for both main characters which gives depth as well as hot romance. Carla and Rendan have both suffered but I do thing Rendan lets Carla down pretty badly and the consequences get nasty. Add in the fact that it's a testing time career wise for Rendan and this story starts to pulsate with life of its own . I read somewhere that communication is key in any good relationship and this couple have to learn that lesson the hard way! What drives this series is the Knowing and it enables the author to put her characters in pretty crazy situations . I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the violence it causes in the males but it sure does have a way of starting things! This particular story introduced characters I'm hoping the author will revisit but also had an ending that whilst not exactly a cliff hanger does leave this reader wanting answers. So I'd say read this book if you enjoy romance but perhaps want a humorous touch with some action and deceit along the way . I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review
I've enjoyed this series for the most part. They all have the major insta-love thing going on - and quite a bit of steam. This was probably my least favorite in the series so far. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t really have much of a connection to either of the main characters. Their relationship just felt too rushed and under developed. I also tired of the hero declaring the heroine "mine" and she would reply "yours". Over and over. We get it! I also didn’t see the hero's reluctance/dilemma to be that big of an issue. I mean, he supposedly had centuries to get over this event, but it obviously still haunted him. I just didn’t think of it as that big of a deal. I'm glad this was offered as a kindleunlimited, and I'm likely to read other books released in this series.
A pink dragon!Btw,the cover shows pink hair while book describes dark brown but that is off the topic. So,pink dragon in a series I like, sounds like a good story.Oh man, this story was bad.It was annoying from beginning to end, both characters not likable and all explanations lacking and unsatisfactory.
Male MC is very arrogant, stubborn and, while constantly we get reminded how mutch he wants a mate and to cherish her, every single of his actions and thoughts contradict it.Yes,he is horny and loves the idea of mate, yes,he finds her beautiful. And every single thought not centered around sex is about bending her to his will, pressuring his choices on her, training her to obey, basically changing her completely to what he wants and not accepting her personality and wishes at all. What a romantic hero to fall for, right?Aggressive, violent, not giving a second thought about lying and putting blame for his actions on his supposedly cherished mate. Not even once he cared what consequences she will face for his actions as long as she stayed alive.Thats it-all he wanted was warm body to fuck.Yeah, very honorable, male.
Female MC is often referred to as having brass ovaries but not once in her actions or thoughts she demonstrated even a slice of bravery. She was cowardly except for two times, one sentences each time when she actually scraped together courage to ask question she wanted.Yeah, very fierce female. She was weak, whiny and basically self loathing.But....she was very forgiving.Like instantly forgiving.I think it was not because of her kind heart but because she was too cowardly to ever stand up for herself. She runs away from problems and any kind of confrontations,if unable, she apologizes or forgave just to get away and hide. And no,she did not change at the end.She was still as bad at the end as she was in the beginning. Maybe it is because I really dislike people like that in real life but I just couldn't find in myself to like her even a tiny bit.
Love story. What love story? There is none. They barely talked and totally didn't care about each other. There was no getting to know each other or developing a relationship past sexual activity. And sex scenes were just unreadable. I'm sorry,I love myself some erotic shut but the way it was written here was just bad.I was annoyed and bored and had to skip over them.
The reasoning behind everything was really weak either.Maybe authors run out of ideas or created a problem first, then couldn't find a satisfactory resolution and went with "whatever".I don't know but the murder attempts felt created just for the sake of giving Rendan something to do-saving the mate. There was no logical explanation for them, just some rubbish.
Reasoning for Rendans lies were just as weak and illogical.Carlas forgiveness was just as illogical. It felt like neither one of them really cared and all they wanted was to get back on those terribly written sex scenes.
The Bottom Line Probably my least favorite at this time. Considering it’s supposed to be based on insta-love, I wasn’t exactly feeling it. These two both made questionable choices and hurt each other while choosing to be together. It’s an ok read.
Rendan and Carla. Before I start, I should mention that I read the book after this before this one so I kinda, sorta knew what was going to happen at the end. Not that it bothered me or anything, but I was aware of how everything played out. And how things could have easily gone south.
Anywho. Rendan and Carla. He's dealing with some stuff. She's figuring out her place with the Preor. I must say I wasn't thrilled with Rendan choosing to blame a certain something on Carla when it TOTALLY wasn't her idea. But I got over it. Mostly.
I'm enjoying this series, but I do have to say as much as the Preor males say they revere females and all that, there sure are an awful lot of them willing to go to any lengths to keep the bloodlines pure. Those guys are jerks. And they usually end up dead.
Which just goes to show: Don't mess with the mate of a Preor or you're probably going to get your head handed to you. Literally.
Its easy to think the Preor males are so much better than human males. Its not really true. Preor males mess up and tbere good ones and bad ones. Carla is mated to Rendan, an amazing warrior but not the best at understanding his mate sometimes. He expects her to live without him while he is off being a warrior. I really don't see that happening. Carla at first seems really meek but she has an iron core when she needs it. I like her, she reminds me of myself.
I thought I was done with the last one... but then this one came out XD The key to me liking these definitely involved skipping the sex scenes. Interested enough to keep reading the series~~
So, it's like this. Three days ago I was browsing books on the Audible romance package. I'm so very picky about books when I'm in a mood. So, I was so happy when I read that this first book had a super possessive alpha male in it. I downloaded the book and started listening to it while I was cleaning.
That was three days ago.
I'm binge listened to the first three books but then I just wanted to read the rest myself. Also, the narrators to these books are freaking amazing. AMAZING!!!
Anyway, once I started I couldn't stop. I am so in love with this series. So, 10 books. 3 days. 2 kids. 1 needy male of my own. I don't know how I did, but I finished all 10 books in three days. I was up late and awake early. Normally, after each book I leave a review. But, I didn't want to wait for the next story. So, I will be posting this review to every book.
Said simply... Amazing story, fantastic characters and the world building is...well...out of this world. I just say that there is a 5 book series on the Ujals. I'll be there if you need me.
What am I going to do now that the fifth audiobook hasn’t released yet? I’m pretty much panicking right now. I need Mandy Lane and NOW. She has been my favorite narrator these past few weeks. It’s no surprise why…
Her voice is angelic. Her tempo is hypnotizing I can listen to her all day. I can’t WAIT for her next narration. The words practically fall out of her mouth and I’m there with my funnel collecting it all. I ADORE the speed at which she reads. It’s perfect for driving. I literally time my chapters out so when I do get in the car, her luxuriously sweet voice guides me home.
I’ve learned not to listen to Todd while doing anything. That’s just dangerous. But with Mandy, I’m taking her to the gym. I’m eating dinner with her. She’s with me when I’m driving, of course. And my new favorite is watching the television on mute while I listen to her narrate. I’d much rather listen to her anyways and, believe me, it’s epic.
Narrator Review (Todd):
I succumbed to the weakness. I listened to Todd during work hours. I squealed halfway through the day. LOUDLY. *Shaking head*
The senior engineer of my firm came over and said, “▇▇▇▇▇, I know you love farm animals [I have a calendar of cows doing yoga and I flove faxing random months to people…] but I didn’t know you could do such a fantastic interpretation of a pig.”
What can I say. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m a girl of many talents.
Do not listen to this audiobook in public. I know it’ll be hard, but trust me. I got away. Barely.
Todd has this way of making it seem like talking is the easiest thing on earth. Even his sharp breaths hold passion. It’s time to put this man on my list of favorite male narrators. Each performance is lathered in longing. I just want to reach into my head where he’s painted each character and sque-e-eze them.
When it comes to Todd, he absolutely knows how to enhance any text. Any genre.
Book Review:
Rendan is my favorite Preor dragon. Did I say that about Taulan, too? Aye. There are just too many to choose from. Perfectly sculpted, wounded, loyal…devious. 😏 You’d think Celia Kyle would eventually run out of alpha ideas, but that’s obviously not happening in this lifetime. This woman is unreal. I’m going one by one through her list of novels and I’m just blown away.
What’s better than a pink-scaled, muscly hunk-o-man? Nothing, if I’m going to be honest with you. This book completely changed the way I view shifter romances. Before, shifters were fun, but this book, this leading man…he’s to die for. Well, unless he decides to sacrifice himself to save you first.
Carla Butler is a human nurse. We were first introduced to her in Kozav Book 3 (where Kozav’s human is also a nurse). I am so, so happy that Carla gets her own story. I loved her to itty bitties in Kozav.
Our heroine, shy and polite, works in the Preor Clinic. She’s a baller and saving people’s lives until a dragon, Rendan, comes in and he's badly injured.
Ooo, you know what’s coming. The Knowing is among us, my friends! Carla and our pink hottie bond at the molecular level. It’s a covalent bond unlike any other—equal forces from each of our protagonists pulling them toward one another. I don’t blame Carla, I can feel Rendan’s electromagnetic field from here in my hermit house in the mountains. Hot. Dayum.
That single word pounded through Carla’s mind. Thump, thump, thumping in her head until it felt like it was the only thing in her world.
Mine.
When the Knowing strikes, Carla doesn’t know what to do and Rendan tries to comfort her. Except he’s kind of bad at this “relationship” thing. Correction, really bad. His growing affection for Carla is apparent, but he’s just so…grr…infuriating. While he’s trying to help Carla adjust to their new connection, he’s struggling with balancing his time as a warrior and a lover.
Hur hur. Don’t worry, you smutty smuts will enjoy the ride. There’s lots of lovin’ to be shared.
But there’s one thing that soldiers of power try to avoid: their enemy knowing who their loved ones are.
These Preor dragons have some serious rivals and now Rendan’s enemy has his sight set on Carla.
🐷 Squeee! 🐷 I shouldn’t be this excited for Carla’s imminent doom, but knowing Rendan is going to go HAM to protect her makes me giddy.
Rendan has that eau de dangerous. He needs to write a recipe book on how to craft a delicious hero.
I adored Carla, but again, the dragon hotties keep stealing the show. I’m just mesmerized by this world and their way of life that Celia Kyle has created. The majority of this book is on earth, so we get a different taste of what it's like to be an injured Preor warrior. Rendan is a little bit of a jerk, and Carla responds to him in cringe-worthy ways, but I thought this was hilarious. I knew what was coming—unlike the other books—but Gaawd I needed a read like this. I was so satisfied.
Shaa kouva, he whispered the endearment in his wind. His beloved. His mate.
The good guys win, the bad guys suffer, and our Rendan experiences a transformation totally worth all the swoons in the world.
This is an entertaining KU Library read and a standalone addition to the Dragons of Preor series. Preors have come to Earth after their females died from a virus spread during a war on their planet. Carla Butler, a nurse introduced in book three, is timid and deferential. She now works in the Preor Clinic, where she comes in contact with a badly injured pink Dragon, Rendan, Offense Master of the Third Fleet. When the Knowing strikes, she knows what is happening, but is afraid. And Rendan, still injured and battle crazed, comes to her aid, or so he thinks. He ends up in the brig, confused and angry. His mate is afraid, of him. Compromises will have to be made and something called courting initiated. But Rendan has made a deadly enemy, one that is turning his attention toward Carla. And keeping her alive and safe will take everything Rendan has.
November 2018 - re-read - 3 stars Rereading Rendan's book I have to say that I didn't like Carla so much. It's still a good addition to the series, but now I'd only give the book 3 stars.
August 2016 - 4 stars Oh how I wished Ms Tate would change some of her sex scene wording. I really hate the use of some words. Why do so many authors nowadays use such vile words?!
Other than that, Rendan is a good addition to the Dragon's of Preor series.
This series is just captivating, a male with such Hurt in his past wanting a mate to cherish but knowing he had to keep one thing from her forever. Carla not expecting to find a mate but knowing she wanted a loving family, children to cherish.
Conflict, prejudice, honesty and love that is what a mating couple needs to battle and gain to survive.
I like this series. My favorite part is that it takes place in a futuristic Tampa. It makes it easier to imagine the scenery. Next I liked the characters. I like Carla, she is braver than she thinks she is. I think Rendan is a jerk. He eventually finds redemption in the story which makes the story have a great HEA.
Kindle unlimited purchase By Celia Kyle Brendan, Offense Master to the Preor Third Fleet, has found his human mate. But she doesn't want him? Talk about baggage, Carla has that and more. She has lost her job. Some would say that's a bad thing. Nope NOW she is working as a nurse for human-Preor mates. Great story. 4 books in number 5 here I come!
Liked this one mucho mega. The only thing is I did not know it was a part of a series. I only gave it 3 stars because I felt like I was missing some information. Now I have to go back and read the series from the start. I may change my rating after I have read the other books.
This imaginative tale adds a truly romantic weave in the tapestry of this amazing series. The complexity of these main characters pull on my heartstrings in the best possible way. The protagonist is easy to despise, and the heroes easy to admire.
Ok a Preor make that wants a mate but keeps making mistakes and is being thwarted by another. Celia Kyle did it again with another great book! Well worth the read and keeps you wondering if they will ever get things right.
This book is excellent! Each story is so very different than the others, but all equally as good. This book is no different. Carla and Renden have such a good story! These need to be read in order.
I really liked Carla. I like the format of introducing a main character in the previous book. She was just the right amount of shy yet determined, and heaven help someone who was in the wrong cuz she would set them right.
I didn’t like the characters in this book as much. Felt Carla was way to timid and it was annoying for me. Kinda felt his reasons for having a dragonlet were not very convincing and he got over it way to fast.
I really enjoyed reading this one. A wonderful continuation of the Dragon's of Preor series. If you enjoy reading sci-fi romance with a paranormal twist then you will love this series.
Sensitive, shy and fearful female mated with aggressive, angry military leader ...
Written for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, semi-steamy intimate scenes and violence.
This is the fourth story in the series, which is a spin-off of the Ujal series. I highly recommend these be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are reoccurring characters and an overall storyline arc.
There are a few grammatical errors but nothing too egregious, that is why I didn’t lower the rating. The story universe continues to grow and develop with every story in the two series, which I will admit is a favorite of mine.
The characters are have also been introduced organically. The heroine of this story, Carla, is an example of that. She was introduced in a previous story when Preors were brought into an emergency room where she was a nurse. In fact, it was because she assisted in their care that she was fired and then subsequently hired by the Preors.
Renan is the Offense Warrior and has to fight with other Preors to find the warrior that will pair perfectly with him as the Defense Warrior. He is always injured in these fights and is taken to medical, where him and Carla are hit with the Knowing. She is sensitive, quiet, shy and afraid of males, especially if she perceives any anger or violence ... which could be a big problem since her mate is a leader in the Preor military and is on the frontlines when there are any hints of problems.
Rendan sen Tarkan is the Offense Master to the Preor Third Fleet and he has found his human mate. She is smaller than him, has sky blue eyes, curves and a delicious scent. It has taken him over two hundred years to find her and he will kill any male who dares to take her no matter who or what they are. Human nurse Carla Butler went from being unemployed to being on a Preor battleship caring for the human mates of the Preor warriors. Then she found a sexy pink scaled Preor warrior who was her mate only to watch him beaten to hell. They seemed to live next door to each other in condos on the Prior Tower on Earth so they could start to learn about each other and build a relationship. So when another Preor tries to end her life he doesn't quit trying to do that - she just hopes that Rendan is always there to save her when he tries one more time.
This was a nice story where Rendan and Carla have to cope with so much danger that they are at risk of life-ending not long after they actually found each other. Add to that their own personalities and the work they both had to do in order to build a strong relationship in order to add to the Knowing which just gives compatibility and attraction it was nice to experience all of that. Well written and easy to read it had all of the drama and danger during the attacks on Carla and her rescue. Contains some explicit sexual content.
2 1/2 This started a lot more promising than Kosav but ended up being about the same meh to good. The lies just ruined it for me. And the reasoning was so superficial. Argh! Then so many times she is left on her own to get attacked. Their extremist and attacks when they supposedly are so careful with their females. argh! Every book the same. I'm going to try the Urdal but might end up stopping as I'm not enjoying them much anymore. They are quick scifi rom (not erotic at this point) and the romance gets turn in a mangled by the deceit.
Any time Todd Mrozek did Rendan narration he did the strange almost wheezily voice that I didn’t care for. Which was weird considering I like all the other narrations he has done and enjoyed his voice. Just not this character. LOL
The storyline of Rendan and Carla was enjoyable. Her being a nurse there to help with the human woman not looking for a mate accidentally meets Rendon when he comes into medical injured. Rendan is the fleets Offense Master and completely goes nuts when he is injured and not thinking clearly and perceives his mate is in danger when she isn’t. It takes a situation from complicated to FUBAR, really quick.
This is the last book in this series that has been published in audiobook (so far) it looks like there are 9 full-length novels written, I am not sure if I will switch to reading them. They are fun and entertaining, but I am not entirely invested in this world. The bad guys are predictable, and it doesn’t feel fresh. But it is steamy and a fun shifter, paranormal, sci-fi romance. I am giving it 3 Boundless Stars.
