1306 - A week before Lady Rose Munro is to wed a neighboring laird, she is abducted on the road by a wicked and dangerously handsome stranger. Highland warrior, Malcolm Montgomery has been ordered by King Robert the Bruce to steal Rose and her son from the suspected traitor she is about to marry—gifting him with an ancient and much sought after dagger as payment. Rose shouldn’t trust her captor. Shouldn’t feel her body heat at his simple touch, or allow him to press his fervent lips to hers… Malcolm shouldn’t be seducing the woman he is sworn to protect. Shouldn’t desire her, for she’s not meant to be his… Succumbing to passion threatens them both, and falling in love is absolutely not an option.

A fast-paced Highland romance, with adventure, suspense and a strong attraction between the main characters, this novelette is a fairly short read but is not lacking in content. Lady Rose Munro has done the best she could for her clan and her young son in signing a marriage contract with a strong neighbour. The fact that he has barely tried to woo her is beside the point. Thus, when she is abducted on a morning ride by warriors, her first concern is her son. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved Malcolm's character, that in spite of the fact that he is battled hardened warrior, he is still a gentleman and gives Rose the respect she is due. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
On the road, a week before Lady Rose Munro is to wed a neighboring laird, when she is abducted by a wicked and dangerous handsome stranger. Highland warrior, Malcolm Montgomery has been ordered by King Robert the Bruce to steal Lady Rose and her son from the suspected traitor she is about to marry, gifted him with an ancient and much sought after dagger as payment. Rose knows that she shouldn't trust her captor, she shouldn't feel her body heat at his touch, or to accept his kisses. Malcolm shouldn't desire her, for Rose is not meant to be his. Succumbing to the passion and desires, that threatens them both, and falling in love with each other is absolutely not an option or is it?
I so enjoy stories that take place when Robert the Bruce was King! I really enjoyed reading this book which has wonderful characters and a fast paced plot. Eliza Knight always writes stories that will fire up your imagination and have you falling in love with the hero:)
Rose and Malcolm come together when he "kidnaps" her but it doesn't take long before she knows she can trust him to keep her and her son safe. It's instant attraction between them and passion heats up quickly! Filled with danger during their flight to safety, the story kept my interest from start to finish.
This is an OK Medieval romance novella, but Malcom was difficult to like at times. There were also a few situations that I found very unbelievable. It gets 3 stars from me.
The story was very short, so there wasn't as much character development as I usually like, especially on Malcolm.
Malcolm was hard to like, because he refused to explain to Rose why he had kidnapped her. He kept telling her she was not in danger, but she had no reason to trust him -- since he wouldn't tell her anything. I was honestly surprised she was so attracted to him.
I thought that Malcolm and Rose were more in lust than in love. They simply didn't know each other well enough to be in love, but they were definitely in lust.
This is not the author's fault, and it didn't affect my review, but this makes several times recently when I've found a Medieval romance unsatisfying. They always contain so much violence, which bothers me. I also think maybe I'm a little too liberated to handle the way women were treated in those days. Even when a woman had a good husband, she was still his property, and had almost no independence. Maybe I should stick with romances from a more contemporary time period ...
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Who would not love to have what I imagine would be a 6'6'' highland warrior on a war horse come out from behind bushes and shrubs looking like a demon, sword drawn, and sweep you off your horse. Not an easy feat. You are thinking "ON MY GOD" and he's thinking "here we go again"!!!!
Malcolm Montgomery, high guard to Robert the Bruce, is on a mission. Bring Lady Rose Murray and he son to see the king as swiftly and safely as possible. Say as little as possible about the reason why. However, he can not fall in love with her.
Lady Rose Murray lost her husband to an enemy 9 years ago and only has her child to protect. She learned the hard way that you have to do what needs to be done in order to accomplish that. So, with the help of her sister-in-law and her husband, Lady Rose has had guards around 24/7.
Now 9 years after that horrible Attack, she has been abducted by this brute of a man. No matter how she tries to get answers he won't tell her anything. She is set to marry again to further help her son and clan. With fierce determination Lady Rose won't give up, she keeps doing whatever it takes to get answers and her son.
Malcolm has to keep her safe and figure out if she knew that her betrothed is a traitor. All this without telling her why. He lets her know her son is safe on the way to see the king himself. This gets Lady Rose to calm some and little by little she gets the most elite guard member to reveal information.
Now with the enemy close at hand peril is just around the corner. Will these two find trust, peace, truth, and safety before the enemy reaches them?? Will her son make it to the king? Or will the enemy win or give up or be defeated?
Find out in the fast paced read with great character details and colorful imagery. It took me about 6 hours to read this book. Great dynamic and heartfelt plot.
Taken By The Highlander is a fantastic historical romance by Eliza Knight. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Knight has provided readers with a well-written book loaded with phenomenal characters. Lady Rose is a widow raising her son has agreed to marry the neighboring laird hoping he will teach her son what he'll need to become a good laird. Malcolm has been tasked with getting Rose and her son to the king before that marriage can take place. Malcolm and Rose's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Eliza Knight soon. Taken By The Highlander is book 2.5 of the Conquered Bride Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rose, a widow, has to remarry to protect her son. She accepts the proposal of her neighbor and expects to wed him the following week, when soldiers abduct her. She learns from her abductor that her soon-to-be husband is a traitor. She is appalled at the implication that she might have known about the treason. On their way to the king to sort out this accusation, the story gets really unorthodox… I like books that take place several hundred years ago. Even though women did not always have a lot to say back then, authors find ways to give female characters strong opinions that are valued and cherished, like in this story. I enjoyed the journey of the main characters who start their relationship on the wrong foot due to the abduction, and end up understanding each other rather well.
In a world where marriage was made to bring clans together for power and prosperity and protection a young widow is captured before she can marry. Her son is to young to lead, so her husband will be the leader and rule over their lands. Are the kidnappers the bad guys. Are they safe. This action changes all their lives. I absolutely love reading these Scottish stories of handsome, brave men of honor and the women they love.
This story is about a woman who gets kidnapped by a man who looks like a devil but is Angel. The woman find out that her husband to be is a trader to his country. I give this story a four star rating. I like this story of the highlander and his kidnapped woman and they fill in love.
I read this as part of the Lords of the Highlands book bundle. I'm adding each work separately so reviews can more accurately reflect what I thought of the individual stories, rather than the compilation on a whole.
Rose’s clan was attacked and her husband was killed. Rose and her sister-in-law escaped. Rose was with child. They were able to get the castle back and all was well until she was abducted by the devil warrior. Lots of adventure happens.
Another smash read from a great author. A trip into the past in that wonderful Scotland. My memories of our trips there bring back so many of my wife’s and our love being recharged there.
I like the hero. He's protective, caring, and tender. Too bad this novella wasn't full length. I'll definitely read more books in the series to see if the other heroes are as great as this one.
3.5 Stars - Malcolm and Rose's story was too short for me. I have read all of the others in this series and this one was just alright. Malcolm kidnaps Lady Munro per his instructions. She is not happy with being taken. They fall for each other. Being so short did not help. I guess for a quick read it is O.K.
