I read this and loved it; then bought a kindle gift copy for my niece that I like to call Little 2%. She loves Mow mows and these illustrations and the rhymes were wonderful.
This was a sweet story about a kitten who procrastinates and doesn't listen to her mother. Children will enjoy the kitten's antics and the soothing, pastel artwork while adults will relate to the mischievous kitten.
Now that Harriet can read she is taking a more active role in choosing her library books. She is returning to old favorite authors, like Bill Martin Jr. A recent find of his is Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, Are You Waking Up?
This book explores the morning routine of a young kitten as he gets ready for school. Parents and school aged children will recognize the speed bumps in the routine: it's hard to get up, it's hard to pick out the right outfit, food is more fun to play with than eat, and so forth.
Bill Martin Jr. has a knack with rhythms and making a short list of easy to read words fun to read. His poetry is also memorable. The combination of phonetically easy words and memorable lines made for a hit with Harriet. She read the book about a dozen times before we had to return it to the library. Weeks later she is still quoting from it.
First sentence: Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, are you waking up? Not yet, Mother, I'm a sleepy buttercup.
Premise/plot: Does this kitty cat have a hard time getting up out of bed and getting ready for school? Oh, yes! One of the reasons why this book may just be so easy to relate to for both children and adults.
My thoughts: Loved it. I think I liked it much more than Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, Are You Going To Sleep. I enjoyed the rhymes very much. My favorite:
Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, are you out of bed? Not yet, Mother, I'm standing on my head.
And the illustrations are just so very, very sweet and precious.
This is a very sweet lower level book about a kitty cat whose mother is trying to get her out of bed and out the door for school. It is nursery rhyme themed; having fictional little characters that tell a small story that is very similar to a real life circumstance that many small children can relate to (their mothers trying to get them ready and out the door for school while they get distracted and do all sorts of other things).
You can't go wrong with a Bill Martin Jr. book! This is a book that youngsters and adults will enjoy. It has colorful illustrations and children will have fun looking for the mouse as he travels the pages. The rhymes tell the story and the repetition of words will help with word recognition. Parents will relate to the difficulty of the morning routine. This book can easily be read over and over without losing its appeal!
This is the cutest rhyming story with a loveable kitty cat. She wants to play. She's looking for her clothes but where is her mouse friend? Where is she going in such a happy mood? This would be a wonderful story to read to a young child at bedtime. The lovely illustrations and rhyming story helps to relay a happy all over feeling of this book. I borrowed this book on a website for Kindle Unlimited Books and so can you.
I bought this book for my 3 year old niece who lives so very far away. I wanted to give her a fun book about a kitty and this was the one I chose. I am glad I did. The pictures were well done and fun looking and the story sweet and something a 3yr old can appreciate.
This book rhymes perfectly sweet. Reading it was a nice little treat. Reminds me of the gruesome chore, of getting my own kids out the door. There was always one last thing to do, before getting on the last little shoe. Now they have all moved out of the house, and I have time to read about a cat and a mouse.
The rhymes amd repetition in this story make this a favorite for my 2.5 year old. She likes that she can figure out the words and pretend that she is reading it herself.
purr fect for first day of school. Loved how the mama cat had so much patience with her little one. Liked the illustrations too. Thank you for a delightful story!
I would highly recommend this book. This book is easy to follow. It is easy to read and it rhymes too. It has sight words that your child has had and can relate too.
Short and cute rhyming book. The illustrations are what make this book with the soft color tones used. The easy rhyming structure and length of book make it perfect for toddlers. Well worth checking out. I found this on kindle unlimited and have given a full review on my blog.
Kitty Cat just doesn't like mornings. Poor mommy cat has to nudge her to wake up, eat her breakfast, get dressed and pretty much everything else that needs to happen. I'm not at this stage yet, but I imagine lots of parents can relate. Fun rhymes for the cat lover.
My daughter loved this story. It was easy enough for her to read by herself but not too easy where she felt like it was a baby book. (She is 6) All together the book is a perfect read for young readers or parents reading to young children.
Sweet, well-illustrated and an easy favorite that's frequently requested. Simple, repetitive lines make it easy for children to memorize and recite. A must for any e-library.
A fun short story of a little kitty sleeping, while an itty bitty mouse tries to wake her up and keep her distracted from what she needs to be doing in order to get ready for school. This story is a rhyming story and is great for children learning rhyming words.
Continuing to work through the works of Bill Martin and this is a simple tale of a cat that well anyway read the title and you get the idea. Probably to help youngsters get going in the morning. Average read, not much for the adult reader in this one though.
A quick and cute read for the little one about getting ready for school in the morning. Nice bedtime book with well drawn pictures for Pre-K/kindergartner.
For very small children. An excellent book to open or close a naptime or nighttime story session. Soft watercolor images are a bit saccharine but cute.
My granddaughter will love the pictures because she loves cats. The story is funny because children get into these fixes and adults need reminding of the adorableness.
