Quite thin as adult entertainment, but I'm clearly not the market for this...and since I 'only' read it because the little one wanted to, no harm no foul.
I don't understand why this isn't the bestselling self-help book of all time?!
But seriously, this book is trash...and I LOVE Batman. Self-help narcissistic garbage showing you the same 20 pictures from the Lego Batman movie trailer.
Batman’s a Butthead, really. My son was excited to read this book and we laughed more because I changed the words and was trying to get him to not bite fingernails.. and a couple parts were funny like the lobster in the microwave.. but more re-living the movie.. no lessons involved besides superficially being cool. The book Mad\Mess a last ditch attempt at the end to involve friends and family as being important.. and it pretty much repeated itself.
OKi love Lego Batman. A whole lot more than a twenty six year old should. But honestly? They could have done WAY more with this. It could easily have upped it's meta game to approaching the film level rather than just lean into the cool joke
“Black… all important books start with a black page… and music— I mean— words... edgy, scary words that would make a parent or studio executive nervous... And logos... really big and dramatic logos...”
Kind of amused at the varied reviews for this - yes, they could have done more, but it's also a tie-in book aimed at kids. This was cute and fairly quick to read through.
This is just a cute little kids picture book that that adults can also enjoy. I got it as kind of a joke gift for a friend who loves all things Batman after seeing the movie (which, while for kids, was a lot of fun for the adults in our group too.)
I wanted to give this book 1 or 2 stars and my kid would say 4 or 5 stars, so I decided to compromise and give it 3! Personally I don't care for it and I think it's trash and nothing but filler for the LEGO Batman movie. There's no real substance until you get to the end and it lists some good things for kids such as: •Stand up for what's right. •Stand up to bullies and defend the little guy. I read this book with my kid and as I read I deepened my voice and acted like Batman and he got a kick out of the whole thing. So yeah...he really enjoyed it!
I guess in this case it was more about the father/son experience. We're looking forward to seeing the LEGO Batman movie though!
Question though: Why is Barbara Gordon being touted as the Police Commissioner? Her dad is supposed to be Commissioner! What, being Batgirl isn't strong enough? It's changes like that I just don't get.
My 4-year-old Batman and Lego obsessed son would probably give this a 5. I gave it a 4 for having some great advice about honestly being a cool person. I was surprised and pleased.
There's cool, and then there's MEGA-cool. Lego Batman has tips for all the youngsters out there about being a good friend, fining one's mission, and being self confident.
I liked that this book is filled with details and has very nice illustrations the only problem that there is alot of pictures and a little writing but I really liked it anyway.
It's Batman! Fun way to link the movie with being cool as a friend, hero and role model. Nice read to use by everyone to really think about what being a hero means to them.
