Book just explains the practices which you have to follow once you decide to wake up at 5:00AM. But before we start implementing the process, we need a sort of inspiration which makes us think why do we need to wake up at 5:00 AM and what happens if we do. This important part is missing in the book though he has given a few stories of famous people who wake up early.
If you really need a book which gives you all the information from the necessary motivations, reasons and to the practices, then Robin Sharma's 5 AM Club is the best book. Invest in one book instead of buying 2 for the same purpose.
Its an easy read, the choices of words are very wise, simple but compact. Thus, easy to absorb all the "nutritions" I can get from the book.
New thing I've learnt in this book is "paradoxical intent", a cognitive technique that consists of persuading yourself to engage in your most feared behaviour, a method thats easy and inexplicably effective; go to bed, close your eyes and try to stay AWAKE for as long as you can
Dan Luca wrote, that its important to have a systematical and consistent morning routines such as these 10 steps; gratitude - drink water - meditate - exercise - cold & warm shower - breakfast - write 1 important thing to accomplished in the day - answer 1 question of yourself - write 12 months goals - relationship note.
Do journaling as well 💬 "Great ideas will visit you only once. You'd better capture them, or you'll lose them forever".
Theres also links to Dan Luca youtube videos for exercising methods like patting your body with your palms gently. Included as well in the "extra" chapter at the end of the book are suggestions of gadgets to use for waking up early, links for audio files to listen in shower, etc. And not forgetting some parenting tips of how we can bring our kids to wake up early as well by having bedtime and morning routines together. 💬 "Adults seem to have forgotten these repetitive and consistent activities that inform our brain that its time to get ready for bed".
I might put this book on my bedside table or pass it on to someone to benefit from it. For us Muslims, it might not be too hard to implements these system to our lives as waking up for Fajr prayer early in the morning is compulsory. But theres other brilliant tips in the routine that can help us to have a much better days or life ahead.
Positives: Luca has a few ideas I haven’t run across in other literature...
1) The idea of *practicing* getting out of bed prior to actually setting your alarm for waking up out of nighttime sleep.
2) The idea that you probably shouldn’t push through and get up at 5 AM if you’ve only gotten a few hours of sleep the night before.
He also points out that if you’re in a season of life where you have to be up late with little ones, or you’re a carer for another family member, getting up at 5 AM probably isn’t a good fit for you.
Once again, kudos to him for this reality check. Much of the other literature seems to view getting up at 5 AM as an end in itself, to be achieved at all costs. I appreciate this more balanced approach.
3) Luca also advocates a gradual approach to adjusting your sleep schedule, which I see as being more realistic than suddenly starting to get up two hours prior to when you would normally get up.
Negatives:
1) The author is extraordinarily specific about the activities he believes that you are to be doing early in the morning, and the ones you should do just before bed.
It would probably be better if he gave suggestions rather than telling you exactly the recipe of smoothie you need to eat first thing in the morning.
On the other hand, it’s wise to recognize that there are certain things that need to be done in preparation the night before, if a person is going to realistically get up early the next morning.
*** I don’t really like to give personal development books star ratings, because typically there’s a lot of good and a lot of negative in each of them. I prefer to glean the good and ignore the stuff I can’t use.
Do I think this book is worth reading? Sure! If you can sift through and benefit from some of the overarching principles, and ignore the things that don’t apply to you, it should be helpful!
This year, I have made a conscious effort not to be judgemental about things in general and books in particular. Hence, I read a lot of self-help and 'professional' books this year than I normally do. I also made it a point not to abort a book halfway, no matter how boring or silly the experience was.
Kudos to this book for breaking all those resolutions. 'The 5 AM Revolution' is oddly specific about the apps, the fruits, and even the brand of earplugs you must use to have a good night's sleep. As the eye mask prescribed by the author was not available at Amazon.in, I had to stop reading further :P
Jokes apart, this is the exact type of book that gives the self-help genre a bad name. There are people out there doing quality research and producing books like Atomic Habits and Deep Work. But unfortunately, everything is branded as BS because the same shelf has utter nonsense like this one.
The book gets redundant in the second half, as the author enlists the 8 weeks practice, one week at a time. The book could have have been shorter by 30 pages or so.
The high level ideas are simple and "known". However, some of the methods of implementing daily practices/rituals were unique. I also found a few good sources of productivity via this book.
It's not a bad book. The best thing it has is the affirmations, questions, and a listing of the daily schedules of the rich and mighty, like Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson.

Some Quotes From The Book: ☆ If you don’t have a choice…it’s easy! ☆ Great ideas will visit you only once. You’d better capture them, or you’ll lose them forever
☆ Nothing changes until you change. —Jim Rohn ☆ Implementing any habit is very similar to the start of movement of a train’s engine. It consumes a lot of energy to start moving and takes a while until it catches some speed. However, after surpassing its initial inertia, it manages to reach a greater speed while consuming a lot less fuel. And it doesn’t just reach a greater speed, it becomes unstoppable, which is what you actually want when it comes to your productive habits.
This book is very useful and it shares practical ways to get up early in the morning. Apps and minute wise routine also help in keep the habit of waking up early.

I saw this book on a list of self-help books to change your life and, having heard of the 5AM club, and having to be up at 5 for a commute, I thought I’d see if there was a way of making it not just bearable, but beneficial.
Unfortunately, this is not the 5AM club by Robin Sharma. And the more you get into it, the more it reads like a knock off. From the start, there are recommendations on the products you should buy to help you on the journey, which not only cheapen it, but also date the title somewhat.
The method is explained but overall I felt it made a lot of assumptions and had so many requirements to create the perfect environment to be able to get up at 5AM, that it would be almost impossible without significant space and resources - which seemed to kind of miss the point. And a 5AM buddy to get up with?!
Some sensible advice and an interesting outlook, but my guess is the original is best, and this didn’t seem quite like the right fit. Setting the alarm and rarely needing it seems a cheaper and simpler way to me so far.
Unscientific self-help voodoo with dangerous guidelines about sleep
This book is half inaccurate, dangerous guidelines about sleep (e.g. insisting in more than 7 and less than 8 hours, when that's impossible to state given it's a personal characteristic, folk tales about specific substances being conducive to sleep) and half self-help voodoo (there's a section about "body tough love").
The book mentions studies, but never by name (it's always "study from this year from this institution" ) and not a single footnote with the full citation. That makes it very hard to believe any scientific claims if the author can't be bothered to provide the actual citation to the work. The ones citated by name aren't usually scientific studies, but other self-help authors.
I don't even disagree with the premise (waking up at 5am has been useful to me), but I don't recommend anyone to use this book as a guide to start doing that.
This book talks about the habit of waking up literally at 5 am.
It gives practical steps on how to be productive and wake up at this early hour. It talks about morning rituals, the ‘why’ factor of waking up and also talks about the 8 week plan of waking up early!
I also want to discuss the flaw that I see in this book. It talks about lot of ‘intruments’ that will help in forming habits and I agree with it but it is really annoying when the author talks about specific brands, it seems like he is also promoting those merchandise (even though he disagrees with this)!
The 5 am revolution is a revolutionary book.one can definitely change his self after reading this book. Book is comprised of mainly three sections: 1 Monring routine 2. Evening routine 3. Motivation
I like the evening routine part more than the Monring part.i am able to get ample sleep after following the instructions.
The main drawback of this book is some of the instructions are not practical and author demands to satisfy the each instruction given before starting the morning ritual.
How can you force someone if he/she is not capable of buying. As a responsible writer you should have given the alternatives of them.
A practical guide for all those people who wants to wake up by 5 AM
Wake up at 5AM, finish all the high priority tasks in the beginning is the best way to achieve success in life.
It is easy to say this on paper, right?
Because practically we face many challenges- 1) Our body don't cooperate to wake up, 2) We don't get sleep early in the night, 3) No clarity on what to do after waking at 5AM.
But this book provides solutions to all your problems. It starts with arranging your bed room to managing your mind to achieve great success in life.
A must read book for all the people who aim to achieve something in their life!
I Already read 5 AM club from Robin Sharma , and practiced 5 AM club rituals mentioned by him. which turned out to be a great turning point in my Life , I would recommend to read 5 AM club before this book . I was already getting many of the benefits stated in the book, some of the ideas given in the almost impossible for me like making smoothie in the morning . buying lot of devices to get the right sleep. but you can try out and choose what works for you. Second part of the books felt redundant especially the 8 week system i skipped all those pages, other than that its a quick read. easy to understand. but all these books are all about implementing rather than reading.
Great strategies for waking up early & reasons for doing so
This book was truly a treasured one. Why should one wake up early and how it has a profound effect on one's overall wellbeing is very specifically explained. Then the plan to achieve it wonderfully given such that you don't have to straight off wake up at 5 am. But each how to take small steps each week has been given. I loved this book and one should definitely add this one to your collection because the author here is just not preaching but actually giving guidance in something that he's being doing for a long time. Very knowledgeable and informative book. Loved this one.
Yeah, the book is good. Practically feasible for those who have office time from 9 am to 4 pm. For engineers like us, it will be hard to follow 50% of the things described in this book. But it is worth to have some knowledge about the things related to sleep and to keep up our productivity or helpful in finding some quality loneliness in the morning without getting distracted by wife and children.
I liked the book and it is worth to read and get to know about the sleep aspects.
"A good one but not generalized ..because it can't be" Its a book for someone who had already achieved good in their life and now want to maintain it, some rules are such that it get little hard to follow for students. BUT If you can sacrifice, It does teaches good set of techniques which i have written down and I DO follow !! Even though i am able to follow all rules because of my work but YES its a good read .. Short and Crisp...no BS.
This is a quick read. Author Dan Luca shares really beautiful tips to wake up at 5am, start a day with positive minds & mood, a sweet pinch of relationship, power pack breakfast & hit hard on all possible reasons for procastination . The morning routine suggestions along with journal tips are easy to adapt. The routine of top leaders is an eye opener. A must read for any one who wish to increase their overall productivity.
