A brief overview of the life and times of a civil rights inspiration.

This was an interesting book but it lacked depth.

Reading time around thirty minutes.

Graphic literature is not my favorite thing to read, but my 4th graders love it and I'm trying to read more junior-non that I can recommend to them.

First off, Rosa Parks is awesome, so the book already has that in its favor.

The illustrations were fine, nothing amazing, but they got the job done and weren't too distracting.

The text was simple and too the point. Very well done and told Rosa's story in a simple way that young readers can follow and understand.

I'm excited to share this one with my fourth graders.

“Rosa Parks: The Life of a Civil Rights Heroine” (Graphic Biographies) by Rob Shone, Nik Spender

Another fantastic graphic biography of a humble women whose moment of defiance changed the landscape of the USA and the western world. ****

James Blake, bus driver: “You had better make it easy on yourselves and give up those seats. Are you going to stand up?”
Rosa Parks: “No.”
Blake: “Well, I'm going to have you arrested.”
Parks: “You may do that.” (p20)

City officials sought to arrest the boycott's organisers. Parks did not wait to be arrested, though.
Parks: “I heard that you were looking for me.”
She was fingerprinted .. and photographed. (p38)

This graphic novel tells about the life of Rosa Park with less words and more pictures. I think this would be great if you had a student who was struggling because he is still able to get the same information as a student reading a novel about her. I used this during PTLS.

Great introduction to the life and work of Rosa Parks. Good background on Jim Crow laws included as well.

Solid graphic biography. Unfortunate cover, in that it is a nice image but doesn't convey that this is a graphic novel.
