Sometimes, there’s nowhere to go but f*ck up…

If you love Broad City and Bridget Jones, you’ll adore Dagmar Kostopoulos…and her colossal fuck-ups.

Lucy Woodhull

Lucy Woodhull's writing began in the womb, where she composed haiku about being claustrophobic. Unfortunately, her mother interpreted this talent as "heartburn," so Lucy's gifts went unappreciated in the world at large for several years.

In addition to writing le steamy romantic comedy, Lucy pens parody and satire, for she dreams of being the literary Mel Brooks. (You should imagine air quotes around the word "literary.")

Her motto is "Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you'll short-circuit your Kindle." That's why she writes funny books, because goodness knows we all need to escape the real world once in a while.

A cute, humorous chick-lit read that I grew to enjoy more and more over time.

There is a certain style that I associate with chick-lit books, and I bet many of you know what I mean. Often, I see sort of over-the-top antics and a female MC who stumbles time and time again in her quest to rediscover herself, her female friendships, and find love. Exhibit A: Bridget Jones's Diary. This book is in that style, but I was surprised to find a little more substance buried underneath.

I'm not really a chick-lit reader, but I'll pick one up from time to time. I expected it to be sort of... vapid, to be honest. I was surprised, first of all, to have an Indian male MC, something I rarely see in romance, and a more feminist character than I expected. There was more diversity than I usually see in the super white world of chick-lit, and I really appreciated that.

But the over-the-top behavior and outlandish story was still present, and lots and lots of crazy drama, both of which I found mildly entertaining but also a lot tiring to read. It was funny and easy reading, but it wasn't precisely my tastes.

I would still absolutely recommend this book to chick-lit readers because it was a well-done, entertaining read. However, I don't think I'll remember any details in a few more weeks.

4.5 stars easily!! (.5 off because I wanted more from the ending)

I have found a new go-to author to add to my collection for some good romantic comedy and her name is Lucy Woodhull! She completely nailed this story and I loved it!

Dag is in her 20s and has spent her whole life trying to please everyone but herself. That is until her boss fires her for not sleeping with him to get that promotion. Then her cheating boyfriend dumps her and tells her she's boring and no one else will want or love her. Btw, their break up scene was freaking hilarious!! To top it all off, her father and her fraternal twin sister treat her like a leper simply because she was born looking 'ethnic'.

So what's a girl to do? Dag decides to say 'f*ck it' to her old ways and embraces the life of a f*ck up. With the help of her bff Mel, she creates a blog to document the 666 ways she can fail at life. And we, the readers, are along for the ride.

I cannot say enough how much I loved this book. I enjoyed watching the snowball effect of Dag's lies and misrepresentations and how incredibly creative she and Mel got with them. Her love interest is a sexy Brit named Yash, a successful novelist, and even he was a lot of fun to read about. However, he is being misled and only knows Dag as 'Giselle', and her house of cards is about to tumble from the weight of the lies she has told him.

Fave Quotes:

"Now was the moment for me to do the right thing and leave. Now. Now that his butt was facing me in a very confrontational manner."

"He kissed like a demon and held me like a dream"

"I wanted to love as me. I wanted to be loved for me."

"I got asked on dates every day of the week, but I turned them all down. Mel, however, was drowning in more dick than a male prison. Her words."

Gah, I don't want to give any more away. There are a lot of laughs to be found in this book and also a moral to the story. Be real. Be true. Love thyself.

Let me start with the reason why I chose to read this book – the title! That alone lured me in. To be able to answer the question what are you reading with 667 Ways to F*ck Up My Life. Yes, I wanted the bragging rights to have that title under my belt. Little did I know I was going to be screaming from the rooftops this is a must read book.

Responsible, honest to a fault, hard-working, Dag has spent her entire life trying to be perfect. Then in one day, everything came crashing down. She loses her editing dream job because she wouldn’t put out. She heads home to tell her live-in boyfriend, only to find out he’s taken a job in L.A. and is moving – without her. Then of all things, she gets stood up by her dad, via a trip to Hawaii, with her twin sister, that she wasn’t invited to. All that work to be perfect has gotten her no, so Dag decides to throw rules out the window, stop being Polly Perfect and live a little. Or in her case, a lot!

How do I begin to describe a book that had me laughing to hard my sides hurt? Honestly, I expected to chuckle but not have tears streaming down my face from laughing. The story starts out with one bad thing happening after another, Fired, dumped, abandoned. What’s a girl to do but get rip-roaring drunk and scheme with her bestie. That’s when Dag hatches the plan to shed her straight and narrow path for the wild side and flip off the world. The shenanigans she comes up with are completely insane and I loved every minute of it. To make it even more fun Dag comes up with item #4. Start attention-whore overshare blog. The list goes on and on as she struggles through shedding her goodie two-shoe world.

The real winner for her biggest f*ck item which turns everything from funny to hysterical is when Dag meets her romantic interest, Yash. To keep her f*cking-up list going she tells him her name is Giselle and she is a flight attendant. The lengths she goes to keeping up the lie are incredible. He’s sincere in his feeling for her but afraid to get hurt again, she continues to perpetuate the lie and her items list and it all blows up in her face. I would call that a spoiler except, come on folks, you KNOW it will all eventually catch up to her. However, the hows and the whys are up to you, the reader to discover. All I will say expect lots of booze, hangers, and even bird poop to keep things very entertaining.
There is an amazeball collection of characters that are along for the ride. The first is her bestie, Mel, who is proverbial angel/devil on her shoulders. One minute telling her to come clean, the next egging her on. Taylor, her current boss at the coffee shop as well as her co-workers there. The story is not without its scumbags. Carmichael and Blade. Ex- boss and ex-boyfriend. Ya know that saying the bigger they are the harder they fall? Let’s just say, they get their comeuppance courtesy of someone working on a f*cking up list particularly entry #7. *Insert evil smile*

As my very first book, and certainly not the last, 667 Ways to F*ck Up My Life was a killer introduction to author Lucy Woodhull. This fast-paced book was loaded with laughs, a few tears, and characters I would love to have as friends. I think I may have just found my new go-to book and author when I need a pick-me-up. As for my recommendation - Read. 667 Ways to F*ck Up My Life. Now.

If you're looking for a book that's
1. entertaining
2. hilarious
3. and engaging

then 667 Ways to F*ck Up My Life is for you. It stars Dagmar, who begins the story at the lowest of lows, having dealt with
4. losing her job
5. losing her crappy boyfriend
6. and being abandoned

so it's not shocking that she drops a mic on giving a f*ck. Dag takes control and starts living life for herself, doing what makes her happy and not holding back to please an ideal others thought she should uphold. In the course of this, she temporarily adopts the persona of Giselle, and
7. meets a wonderful guy
8. who she can't fall for
9. because she's lying
10. and this obviously won't end well

This book is full of
11. great pop culture references
12. amazing characters
13. lack of punctuation in ordered lists
14. hilarious moments
15. bonding with a BFF
16. definitely not falling in love
17. cats
18. cake
19. and ice cream

But most importantly, it's a wonderful journey of a woman who is
20. rediscovering herself by living life to its fullest

This is the first book I've read by Lucy Woodhull and I'm hooked. It was so good that I couldn't put it down and finished it in a single reading session.

Yash, cosita bien hecha, me encantó.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to throw a middle finger to the world and embrace my inner crazy!!

Dagmar Kostopoulos has always been the good girl, but that shit is in the past. After she's fired for not blowing her boss and her boyfriend decides to move to LA without her, Dag decides to do things a little different. Day drinking, dirty sex, a barista job instead of a career in the publishing industry…and a blog to spill all the dishy deets. With the help of BFF Mel, Dag is all in!

When she meets author Yash Majumdar, she has no clue that posing as a flight attendant named Giselle will cause so much mayhem. Yash is a guy she could genuinely see herself dating, but he won't want anything to do with her once he finds out she's a big fat liar. So she keeps on keeping on, doubling down on her subterfuge and insanity. One chance coffee shop encounter changes everything Dag has dedicated her new self to, quickly and completely, and the fallout may just make an entire section of her list.

New girl-crush alert, her name is Dag and she's done gone full on funny as hell bad girl! This is the woman you want to be friends with and secretly want to emulate. From pleather bodycon clothes to disastrous attempted seduction of hot dudes, she's done being a doormat and embraces the exact opposite of the old her. Dag's decision to stop being Little Miss Nice and focus on ways to fuck her life up lead her in hysterical directions that soooo many of us can relate to. A few gems:

Dagmar Kostopoulos used to be a sheep. A rule-follower. A beige devotee. No longer. Now evildoers would face my wrath, for I had fuck-ups to perpetuate, yet I had no more fucks to give.

Mel crossed her arms over her chest. "This whole day is a mystery. Earlier, I helped you steal a cat. I told a heinous lie about an old lady. And now I'm going to assist you obtain a uniform for a job you don't have to keep a man who doesn't know your name… all while in a coffee shop strip club. Emily Post just doesn't cover days like today.

667 WAYS TO F*UCK UP MY LIFE was funny as hell from beginning to end. With a little help from her weirdo cat, her coffee shop and publishing buds, random assholes with phones ready to record every embarrassing moment for posterity, an icky icky poo family and the geekalicious Yash, every page was a look at the silly, goofball side of life that we all wish could happen after deciding to just say FUCK IT!!!

Bottom Line: This is a really fun and funny read! You'll simultaneously throw a mental "you go girl!" and clench your cheeks in sympathetic embarrassment for our heroine. Stellar job, Ms. Woodhull! - See more at: http://erotic.theromancereviews.com/v...

I've come to the conclusion that all the men in Dagmar's life just plain suck. With a pretentious, self-absorbed boyfriend, a POS boss who only thinks with his dick, and an old-fashioned father who aggressively plays favorites with his daughters; it's no wonder Dag goes off the deep end.

After trying so hard to be "perfect" with less than perfect results, Dagmar decides she's had enough. She's going to be the f*ck up that her family claims she is...and she's not going to GAF. With the help of her best friend Mel (I loved her, by the way!) Dagmar decides that 666 is a high enough goal of f*ck ups, because why the hell not?

This book was a breath of fresh air for me! I laughed way too hard at some of Dag's adventures and wanted to shake her a couple of times. Even though it was her goal to f*ck up as much as possible, Dagmar managed to find out who she really is and finally tell the sucky men in her life to "shove it".

Overall, this was a great book.

Review:
Laugh Out Loud funny. Taking a bunch of bad situations and making them work is the premises of this hilarious story. This book was so much fun to read. I may have to read it again. The plot has the main character, Dagmar aka Giselle picking up the pieces of her toppling life. Losing her job, her cheating boyfriend moves to California leaving her with an expensive apartment that she can’t afford. The ultimate good girl snaps and at the urging of her best friend, Dagmar sets out to be a serious F**k up. Reinventing herself, she documents everything on a blog that is going viral. As part of her new persona, she meets a guy that is suppose to be a one night stand. Giving a fake name, and a fake career, Gisell the flight attendant starts to have feelings for her one night stand that stretches beyond one night. The chemistry between Yash and Giselle/Dagmar is fun and sweet and very real. This is a fast paced book that is easy to read. Good ending wish there was more. Fun character development.

I rarely choose a typical chick-lit with a woman chasing a man as my read. I prefer to watch romantic comedies, not read them. But the blurb said that this is a great book for fans of Broad City and Bridget Jones, so I decided to give it a try. And I stand with my initial preferences - I'd rather watch a 1.5h movie with the same plot than read the book. But I still quite enjoyed reading the book, so I gave it three stars - it's not bad, and it's not great, and I'll probably forget all about it soon.

Dagmar Kostopoulos is having the worst day - she just got fired from a publishing job because she didn't want to have sex with her boss (someone else wanted, and now she's taking over Dag's job), her boyfriend told her he just got a great job in L.A., and he's moving there, without her, also, he cheated on her. He is a total asshole, and he told her that he's leaving her because she's boring and unworthy of anybody's love. Dag who always struck for perfection and people pleasing has enough and takes a one-eighty. From now on she will be a fuck up. She will get a lousy job she doesn't care about; she'll try to sleep with her new boss, and she will have fun and won't take shit from anyone. And she does just that and more. She even meets a perfect man. Actually, Giselle meets a perfect man. Dag in a spur of a moment introduces herself as a flight attendant Giselle to a writer Yash. She thought he would be just a one night stand, but she fucks up and ends with deeper feelings for him. And he doesn't know that her name is Dagmar and that she used to work in publishing. Her life of fuck ups and her blog where she tells all about it is changing her life completely, but she still needs to figure out the lying to Yash part...

What bothered me in this story is the in-your-face feminist parts. It's absolutely amazing that the romantic comedy protagonist is a feminist, and she believes in female friendship and helping each other. But those parts in the book were too much, she was trying to convince us that she's such a great feminist. What bothered me the most are the parts where she apologizes for being 'unfeminist like' when she talks about wanting Yash and forgiving him for something. I'm not sure what was such 'unfeminist' of her that she needed to apologize. I wished Dag just did what she did, made all the mistakes and owned it, without telling us how great feminist she is because she's doing it. I really liked her speech that she gives towards the end of the book, and I believe that this would be enough for delivering a feminist message. Let her actions speak and let us decide what we think of her actions.

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed this book for most parts. It's a funny story, and there are some great references to pop culture. Plus the love interest of Dag - Yash is British Indian (yay for non-white characters!). I'd like to watch a movie based on this book.

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

OK, so you know those books where you look at the title and cover and go, "I have got to read this," and then you get your hands on a copy and it turns out to be a total dud in a pretty package?

This is DEFINITELY NOT one of those.

Dagmar-Giselle is hilarious. Like, "how do you come UP with this stuff?" hilarious. The poor girl had a really, REALLY bad day, but somehow she managed not to lose her sense of humor, which is a feat in and of itself. And then she went out into the world with no fear, fucking up left and right, which I so so so admired her for, and I couldn't help LOVING this book.

The only thing that bugged me was that things got a little slow near the end when stuff starting going really well. I did love the revenge on her sexist prior boss, but otherwise, I want her to get back to fucking up in order to un-fuck-up her budding relationship.

4.5 stars out of 5. LOVE.

First off I have to say that the lead character's name is unusual and fits her perfectly...Dagmar. Dagmar is a strong and balls to the wall type of woman, and you love her for it. She still shows her sensitive side and all her womanly charm but she is one woman who learns to not care what everyone else thinks.

This book is hilarious, fun, and a joy to read. Even though is it 667 ways to f*uck up my life, it still teaches you a thing or two about letting go and finding yourself. Great read!!!

Me gustó.

Sometimes the only way to get over a bad day or few days or perhaps a year or so is to start over by reinventing you. Dag/ Giselle did just that. Her father and twin sister went to Hawaii didn’t invite her. She lost her job because she wouldn’t sleep with the boss. Her boyfriend decides to cheat on her and that is the beginning. So instead of feeling bad she takes things into her own hands controlling her own life for a change. Do things for her and not everyone else. I simply loved Dag’s attitude. F*ck everything! Why can’t it be that easy sometimes to start over? Maybe it is.

Ms. Woodhull did let us in on the drawback to reinventing your life…you meet the right guy and you are in so deep with your new personality you just don’t know where to stop…or when to stop? The lies are already in place.

Yash is everything Dag wants, complete with the accent, good job, looks…well everything. Hot…Hot… He was easy to fall for.  The relationship between Dag and Yash had good chemistry and felt like a realistic relationship with real problems.  I liked the whole premise for their beginning. It made it seem more up to date and real.

This was one funny story that was also very entertaining. I enjoyed the transformation from caring to not giving a f*ck. There are days I would love to do this. But I find it may be hard to let go of the old and start over new. On the other hand it seems like it would be an absolutely interesting journey in rediscovering me.

So maybe we should take control. Grab a glass of wine or beer, some tissues because you might laugh so hard at Dag’s life and her changes that just complicate things a little more that you find yourself crying. This is a great read for anyone.  It adapts to every lifestyle because after what Dag goes through sometimes life isn’t all that bad. Good for the beach or just if you need a laugh. You won’t want to put it down once you start.

I also think that there may be more than 667 Ways to F*ck up your life…But that is just my opinion.

4.5 stars, easy.

first- i read this on hoopla and it was in pdf format which was super annoying.

second- this book is hilarious. i have laughed so hard i wheezed. my favorite was her trying to get to work after new years. reads like a hilarious chick flick but with doses of feminism and serious.

you will enjoy this.

Me encantó!! Me he reído, me he molestado, he llorado y me he enamorado.

I absolutely loved the book. Related to a lot of things, realized a lot of things, fell in love with the women in the book. Will be taking a lot of tips from Dag/Giselle.

It's an easy read. Just don't know why the author was desperate to add in like 667 pointers while most made no sense! A feel good forced chick lit 🐤📖

You've seen stories like this before. The girl, the boy, the tense conflict that threatens their relationship before things fall into place and they get their happy ending. However! Just because you've seen a story done before doesn't mean the telling can't be original and funny and enjoyable, and that's exactly what this book is. Dagmar is a frustratingly straight-edge woman in a world where "nice girls finish last" and she's fed up. After one particularly bad day, she says to hell with it all, and decides to see what happens when the devil on her shoulder is in the driver's seat. Her willingness to fuck up and do whatever her bad-girl instincts tell her is a refreshing delight to read, even if it gets her into trouble.

As for why I rated the book 4 stars instead of 5, it's really just two little personal sticking points. I have a pretty strong aversion to narratives that put their characters through excruciating embarrassment just for the cringe-factor, and though it doesn't permeate the whole book, some of the secondhand discomfort I felt for Dagmar as she consistently tries and fails to sort out her budding relationship with Yash (picture me, screaming at my Kindle "TELL HIM THE TRUUUUUTH!") was a bit too much. I know for some people these kinds of shenanigans make for the best, juiciest comedy, so ymmv. To the second point, I'm pedantic as hell and was distracted by the fact that the "667 Ways" format of the book (and the fictional blog within the book) don't always list "fuck-ups" but can drift into stream of consciousness thoughts and repeated motifs. As a realistic reader I know it would have likely been impossible to actually list 667 ways to fuck up one's life, and a "5 ways to fuck up my life" wouldn't have been nearly as punchy a title, but, here we are.

Of course, I was able to enjoy the book despite these little things, and overall the main characters are funny and relatable, the story is silly and sweet, and it was the perfect book to pick up when I needed a good chuckle. Basically, if you're tired of being good and need a little light reading while you're sitting by the pool soaking up the last of summer, '667 Ways' will fit the bill.

I LOVE this book! I love everything about it. From the first word to the last, I was hooked. I love the concept, the characters, the story, the comedy, and how unbelievably believable it is! I've never related to a book so much before. It's all so incredibly true. A reader can't help but laugh out loud at Dag's adventures, all while drawing comparisons and remembering similar situations in their own life. Everyone should have a friend as loyal as Mel and at least one moment of fierce bravery as Dag. Hope that everyone can have a Yash may be a stretch though. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, curious to see what Dag was going to get herself into next, and how she was going to get herself out of her last f*ck up. This book is just great, on all accounts. Every woman should read it. It’s lighthearted and funny, while not just touching, but stomping on real problems almost all women face. I just love it.

One of the best RomCom books I have read this year. This book is so funny I laugh till my sides hurt.

Dag decides after she losing her job because she won't sleep with her boss and her boyfriend tell her he is moving away without her that her good girl ways have gotten her nowhere and she will see if Giselle her alter ego can get her places she has never been before. Dag and her friend Mel have one misadventure after another.

Dag meets Yash the love of her life during one of her Giselle moments and has to go to great hysterical lengths to hang on to him. What I took away from this book is life is short, relax and find your inner Giselle and have some fun. Lucy Woodhull is a new author for me and I planned to read more of her well written books.

I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After Dagmar loses her job, is dumped by her not-great boyfriend, and is excluded by her family all in one day, she decides to stop being Ms Perfect and start f***ing up.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is snappy and fun, the narrator funny and enjoyable to read. It was nice that Dagmar wasn't perfect. She made mistakes. Lots of them. Some bordering on cruel. But that made her more relatable, and female characters are rarely allowed to be disasters and still be the hero.

There were a few conversations -- ones with her family, the animal shelter scene -- that went a little too far in their farcical nature, which pulled me out of the story a bit. But those are small critiques. Overall, this book is funny, sexy, and enjoyable.

WOWZA!!!! I literally could not put this book down for anything! This is the first book I've read of Lucy Woodhull and I am thoroughly impressed. I laughed, I cringed, I cried, I laughed even more, and I felt empowered. This is definitely a book I think all women should read, it had so many great lessons in it that I think everyone should instill. I adored Dag and I loved watching her grow as a person, she was so easy to connect with and I seriously wish there really was a blog out there of her's for me to follow daily. I loved how the book had so much girl power in it but I think a huge thing to remember is that you can't please everyone & to not take what others say too seriously. Overall, this was a fantastic read and I am so sad that I finished it already.
