(Este volumen consta de los capítulos del manga que van del 79 al 83, ambos inclusive).
Hachiro está decidido a acabar con su angustia existencial congelando el lago y haciendo que él y Shura pasen ahí juntos la eternidad dormidos. Así que Rin y Yukio lo apostaran todo a una de las técnicas del primero y a su cada vez más afianzado control sobre las llamas azules…
El arco de Shura ha sido corto pero intenso, como se suele decir. Ha sido interesante para conocer más del personaje y su pasado, y poder comprenderlo mejor por todo ello. Éstos capítulos han comprendido un arco que suele darse mucho en los mangas, en el cual descubrimos el pasado del personaje y éste vuelve a por él, pero de alguna manera también sirve para que el carácter se enfrente a él y pueda seguir avanzando por la vida. Y esto se ha visto claramente en el caso de Shura, donde ha habido los tópicos más comunes del genero, con mucho peligro, momento autoafirmación, y tambien momentos kukis con los hermanos Okumura para dejar bien clarito el bonito vínculo que tiene con ellos. E incluso se ha hecho un corte de pelo que ha sido hecho de improviso, pero le ha quedado a la tía muy bien, ni en peluquería le podía haber salido mejor (nota. No intentar en casa. En la vida real no sale también como en los mangas). Y todo ha quedado muy bien, demostrandose una vez más que Kazue Kato sabe perfectamente por dónde van los tiros en su historia y que controla perfectamente a los personajes.
Además, la lucha por su contra Hachiro ha sido una excusa perfecta para ver a los hermanos Okumura peleando codo con codo. Es una pena que estén de búsqueda emocional y de poder de Yukio, porque ha quedado muy clarito que cuando se ponen se complementan muy bien gracias a que lo que tiene uno es lo que le falta al otro. Gracias a eso, la pelea no solo ha sido intensa en cuanto a ritmo y acción, también ha tenido un componente emocional bastante interesante además de la relación de Shura con el demonio. Y creo que la autora ha sabido aprovechar muy bien todo eso. Sin olvidar por supuesto algún que otro pequeño gag cómico para aliviar. y todo esto, que sin olvidar que cuando toca hacer escenas de combate a gran escala y con criaturas de enormes dimensiones, es cuando el lápiz y la plumilla de Kato se lucen en todo su esplendor.
En este tomo termina el arco de Shura. Y lo hace con ella dispuesta a vivir su vida y dejándole claro a Mephisto que se trata de hacer algo que ponga en peligro a Rin o a Yukio, se tendrá que ver con ella. Porque, como ella señalado, una vez más ha quedado demostrado que lo que ha pasado en Aomori responde al plan maestro que tiene el director de la academia Veracruz, sea cual sea.
Y esto nos lleva a la segunda parte del volumen, enfocada en las investigaciones de Lighting y Suguro respecto a lo que pasó en la fatídica y famosa noche azul, donde Lighting cree que puede estar el germen de todo lo que está pasando en la actualidad con los Iluminati. Sin duda alguna si me tengo que quedar con una dupla de este manga es con la de estos dos. Se complementan muy bien crean no solo momentos bastante cómicos (llamadme simple, pero no he podido evitar soltar un par de carcajadas con el momento disfraces), especialmente por como Lighting mangonea al pobre Suguro. Pero al mismo tiempo, que bien le viene a Lighting tenerlo. Y no solo porque le traiga hamburguesas y le limpie la ropa. Suguro logra frenarle cuando se pasa y poner un poco de cordura en su forma de ser, que buena falta le hace. Y eso se ve especialmente en la escena final del volumen, en la que los dos van al monasterio en el que se criaron los gemelos para recoger pistas. Todo el tomo tiene una sensación de cuenta regresiva increíble, en el que uno sienta que está al caer el descubrimiento de uno de los grandes misterios que han jalonado esta serie desde el principio. Y es por eso, que este tomo no se siente como el típico puente entre arco y arco Sergio, tiene un aura oscura muy interesante, y la tensión se masca en el ambiente.
Lo que no quita para que haya momentos más graciosos a lo largo de sus páginas. Shiemi tiene que decidir que responderle Rin tras la declaración de este, pero está hecha en un lío porque no sabe distinguir muy bien entre qué es eso de la amistad y el amor. Pero ahí está Izumo, y con la ayuda de un buen manga Shojo nada impedira que Shiemi consiga definir que eso del amor y las relaciones románticas y como puede ser “un ser humano humano, hecho y derecho”. Me han gustado mucho las escenas entre esas dos en la casa de Shiemi, no solo porque me haya sentido identificada con la satisfacción de Izumo al ver que la otra se enganchaba a su manga de confianza (que también) sino porque me gusta ver cómo se está desarrollando esta relación poquito a poco, y como paso lento, pero firme van haciéndose amigas de verdad. Me parece muy muy bonito, de hecho una de las cosas que más me gustan de “Blue Exorcist” es como se cuidan las relaciones entre los personajes. Pero además, esta subtrama creo que marca un antes y un después en el desarrollo del personaje de Shiemi. Creo que es aquí, donde empiezan a cristalizar realmente los esfuerzos que ha hecho, no solo por madurar, abrirse y ponerse al compás de sus compañeros. Es donde de alguna forma empieza a sacar la garra, y a demostrar que es algo más que el personaje kawai y delicado que era en los primeros tomos (por lo cual, a mí no me gustaba al principio y me resultaba bastante indiferente, tengo que reconocerlo. La he ido cogiendo cariño en los últimos tiempos, especialmente con la lectura de los últimos tomos). Y creo que esto se ve en su encuentro con Mamón, digo Amainon (sí, la bobada esa me ha hecho mucha gracia, queredme como soy). Me parece una escena impagable tanto a nivel comico como de evolución de personaje, que a nivel de desarrollo de personajes y relaciones aporta mucho, aunque dentro de la trama sea un mero receso. Eso si, pobrecito mi Rin que le han dado calabazas. Menos mal que tiene a sus amigos para que le consuelen.
Otro personaje que también me ha parecido interesante en esta ocasión ha sido Shima. Que no hay que olvidar que el tío sigue currando de agente doble con la Veracruz y los Ilumniati. Y eso da mucho juego. Tanto a la hora de dudar de donde está la lealtad del personaje, como para hacer bromas y gags varios.
La verdad es que este 18º de “Blue Exorcist” me ha parecido bastante completito, ya que se ponen las bases para revelaciones importantes y se tiene la sensación, como lector, de que estás acercándote al borde de un abismo. Pero sin perder de vista lo gracioso y lo ligero. Cierra un arco bastante interesante y abre las puertas a otro que promete ser bestial. Bueno, hablo como si no lo hubiera leído ya hace años, cuando en realidad estoy haciendo relectura. Así que así os lo digo. Agarraos fuerte que vienen curvas.

Sigo sintiendo que esto va demasiado lento, pero a la vez disfruto los capítulos que siguen a Shiemi y sus historias con Rin y con Izumo, los idioteces de doble espía de Shima (se supone que esto es un elemento de misterio pero por alguna razón me parece un poco tonto), y sobre todo la investigación de Lightning y Bon, mezclando partes con humor y partes reamente intensas.

A bit of an interlude, this volume is jam-packed with the stuff that I love from Blue Exorcist. Friendship! Humorous interactions! Character development! All that stuff I absolutely love.
Also, there were lots of laughs. Some were unintentionally hilarious, others were funny because they were so easy to relate to (Shiemi reading Shoujo manga for the first time = classic).
So, this volume made me super happy, and I look forward to the next volume.

Rin y compañía derrotan a Hachiro y por fin Shura se encuentra libre de su maldición, lo que significa que podrá vivir como quiera, sin ataduras ni restricciones. Como plus, se queda con la espada demoniaca.
Más adelante, Lightning y Suguro (quien está trabajando como su aprendiz) investigan el misterio de la ‘noche azul’, aquel suceso pareciera algo planeado por jugadores importantes como Mephisto, Lucifer o el mismo Satanás. Si bien la organización Illuminati ya no piensa ocultarse y ha declarado la guerra abiertamente, lo cierto es que todavía no estamos muy seguros de qué ocurrirá entre los exorcistas y demonios sueltos.
Por otra parte, se ve el crecimiento que Shiemi ha tenido: al inicio era alguien que no podía hacer mucho por cuenta propia pero poco a poco hemos ido viendo su tenacidad y valor al querer proteger a sus amigos. Aunque claro, todavía está medio verde en otros asuntos, aka el romance.
Rin y Shiemi me encantan juntos, pero quizá no sea momento de enfocarse en algo así pues Amaimon regresa a la Academia y quién sabe qué papel tomará a partir de aquí. Así mismo, vemos cómo Shima sigue trabajando como doble espía y de cierta manera, ha tenido influencia importante con Yukio, quien sigue en la cuerda floja entre lo normal y lo demoniaco.
En fin, un volumen muy entretenido, con escenas muy graciosas y que poco a poco nos está preparando para la siguiente batalla.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that Suguro is on the front cover. I seriously thought it was a whole new character. But I forgot that Suguro changed his hair and he looks great.
Shiemi being honest about her feelings to Rin was bittersweet. I want them to be together, but at the same time, Shiemi needs some time alone to figure out if she really likes Rin that way. And whenever she pushed Amaimon, that was comedy gold. Not only was it hilarious and unexpected, but I'm glad Shiemi is starting to express herself more.
Shiemi's study sleepover with Izumo was also great. It seems like Izumo is finally starting to form a friendship with Shiemi.
I really do hope that Shiemi and Rin end up together at some point. And I'm also growing more frustrated with Yukio. He really needs to talk to Rin.

I love that Shima is out there trying to recruit Yukio and everyone is like, it's fine, it's his job - right bestie?
That being said, I did enjoy the interactions between Shima and Yukio. I think the series starting to work on untangling mysteries more directly (even if they seem a bit clichéd thus far) is also a good direction at this stage.
I guess, the only thing I have been hoping to see for a while is a little more sophistication in Rin's attacks. Not a fan of massive powerups but it is a bit of a waste to lose traction on his growth and emotional arc.
That being said, I did enjoy the interactions between Shima and Yukio. I think the series starting to work on untangling mysteries more directly (even if they seem a bit clichéd thus far) is also a good direction at this stage.

I enjoyed Rin, Shura, and Yukio working together to defeat Hachiro. That hug between them was soo sweet! As time goes on I dislike Shima more and more. My favorite part of this volume by far is the investigation that Lighting and Bon are working on. I can't wait to learn more about section 13. I also wonder what Mephisto is planning by letting Amaimon out.

At this point I’m almost skim reading these. They aren’t horrible or boring but I have hit a point where I’m not all that invested anymore. Normally I would be reading these back to back or re-reading from the beginning volume so I remember all the details, but I don’t have any desire to do that with this series now. It’s not as silly as it used to be which is a great plus, but the amount of plot progression vs filler in each volume has always leaned more towards filler and I really just want to see the plot get moving.

Another fantastic volume that had me screaming once again with all the okumura sibling feels and other questions and wondering what is going on.
This volume starts off with Rin finishing off the demon that had a hold of Shura. The demon is reduced to a weak low level as such they decide to let him go. When all has ended reinforcements finally arrive to search for the demon, however, Shima slips away tracks the demon, traps it and hands it over to the Illuminati for their immortality research and creating a vessel for Satan! Furthermore, Toduo finally makes a reappearance and asks how the recruitment of Yukio is going. Beforehand, Shima had said it was a shame that if only a second later had passed, Yukio would have gotten the power of that demon they defeated and as such he again asks Yukio why he not join the Illuminati, especially considering he was the one who informed Mephisto of his suicide attempts.
After, Yukio collapses he is set to be in recovery for two months. Meanwhile Rin takes care of him and feeds him as the other Exwires also visit him and wish Yukio a speedy recovery. All the while, Yukio struggles with his inner demons.
All the while, Rin asks Shiemi to go out with him, but she has no idea about the difference between friendship and romance. So we get Izumo come over to Shiemi's house and has her read manga to learn about love. In the end, Shiemi tells Rin that she is not ready for romance and rejects him. Rin just smiles and tells her they are still friends, though ofc, it does hurt him, but he thinks its better that way so he won't fight and compete with Yukio. Now, all this scene with Shiemi, Izumo and Rin is cure and funny, yes, but definitely my least favorite ch of the volume. Though I am biased because I have no interest or love for the love triangle between Shiemi, Yukio, and Rin.
And speaking of Shiemi it seems she has decided to become an exorcist afterall. After the sudden arrival of Aimomon at the cram school, Shiemi defends Rin and reasserts to herself that she wants to become stronger.
Finally, Lightning and Bon have started to research the Blue Night where a number of people switched jobs and just left after it happened. Something very suspicious is going on as his research leads him to the monastery where the Okumura twins grew up. There three people had left the Japan branch after the Blue Night. After revealing about a sect 13 one of the men at the monastery is killed for speaking about the truth. Thus, ending the volume.
Looks like True Cross Academy's dirty secrets will be revealed. Everything is pretty suspicious, but we'll see what later volumes reveal.

After, Yukio collapses he is set to be in recovery for two months. Meanwhile Rin takes care of him and feeds him as the other Exwires also visit him and wish Yukio a speedy recovery. All the while, Yukio struggles with his inner demons.
All the while, Rin asks Shiemi to go out with him, but she has no idea about the difference between friendship and romance. So we get Izumo come over to Shiemi's house and has her read manga to learn about love. In the end, Shiemi tells Rin that she is not ready for romance and rejects him. Rin just smiles and tells her they are still friends, though ofc, it does hurt him, but he thinks its better that way so he won't fight and compete with Yukio. Now, all this scene with Shiemi, Izumo and Rin is cure and funny, yes, but definitely my least favorite ch of the volume. Though I am biased because I have no interest or love for the love triangle between Shiemi, Yukio, and Rin.
And speaking of Shiemi it seems she has decided to become an exorcist afterall. After the sudden arrival of Aimomon at the cram school, Shiemi defends Rin and reasserts to herself that she wants to become stronger.
Finally, Lightning and Bon have started to research the Blue Night where a number of people switched jobs and just left after it happened. Something very suspicious is going on as his research leads him to the monastery where the Okumura twins grew up. There three people had left the Japan branch after the Blue Night. After revealing about a sect 13 one of the men at the monastery is killed for speaking about the truth. Thus, ending the volume.
Looks like True Cross Academy's dirty secrets will be revealed. Everything is pretty suspicious, but we'll see what later volumes reveal.

I am very happy to see that Shura is saved and has broken the contract she was bound to. I am still not sure where I stand with Shima, though. He's a double agent and I really like him as a character, so I hope he's one of the good guys. At the same time, I don't completely trust him. I am also happy to see how much affection Shura has for the boys. She is willing to even threaten Mephisto when it comes to ensuring their safety. What most concerns me at the moment is that Julio seems to have some powers surfacing and isn't taking good care of himself at all lately. I'm hoping we aren't heading toward a hero turned villain storyline with him. I don't mind storylines like that when they are well written, but Yukio is in for a lot of suffering together with Rin if that happens. Lewin is finally finding information about what caused so many people to change positions or leave after the Blue Night. Bon is out helping him, but everything is super sketch around what happened that night. It seems that some people involved used to be a part of the Illuminati or something called Section 13. The guy that told Lewin this was bound by a deal that killed him, so other people that know more about Section 13 probably are too. Lewin and Non have a lot of work ahead of them. Now for the saddest part for me of this volume: Shiemi's rejection of Rin's desire for a romantic relationship. I feel like it made sense story wise for her to reject him at the moment. Shiemi and Run both have a lot more space to grow as characters and I would like them to develop individually before they become a couple. Yes, I still have hope they will become a couple in the future. Run deserved nice things, the boy has had a hard life. I think Shiemi does love Rin, but like she explained this volume, she doesn't feel ready for romance yet, and I think it's cool that she was honest and open about that. There is still hope for the future!

Finalmente derrotan a Hachiro y Shura queda libre de la maldición. Luego, Shima captura a la hidra y se las entrega a los Illuminati ya que ésta estaba débil por la batalla y quedó como una serpiente chiquitita. Esto del doble espia de Shima se está poniendo un poco ridículo porque todos saben lo que está haciendo y lo dejan...
Yukio sigue con su diálogo interno de querer ser más fuerte y yo creo que pronto decidirá irse con Lucifer porque ya está en el punto en el cual debería hacer algo en vez de cerrarse tanto con lo que siente.
Lewin sospecha de Mephisto y de sus planes para derrotar a Satanás así que con la ayuda de Suguro se ponen a investigar la noche azul. Juntos van a la casa donde se criaron Rin y Yukio, y ahí interrogan a un monje y este les confiesa que estuvo en la sección 13. Ahora mismo no sé sabe qué quiso decir con eso así que en los siguientes capítulos deberíamos tener más información.
Rin y Shiemi comparten otro momento en el cual Rin quiere salir con ella pero como Shiemi no sabe nada del romance, termina leyendo un manga shojo y finalmente rechaza a Rin. Ahora mismo están chicos como para eso así que estoy de acuerdo que su relación siga siendo de amistad pero en un fututo me encantaría verlos como pareja, sería bonito.
Amaimon llega a la escuela y ahora irá a clases con los demás. Esto es un poco raro porque ni idea de para qué serviría esto así que ojalá después haya una respuesta concreta de esta parte.
Este fue un tomo más bien relajado en la que empiezan situaciones que en los siguientes tomos se van a desarrollar así que no diría que fue aburrido pero tampoco emocionante.

El volumen 18 de Blue Exorcist nos deja con una sensación de misterio y suspenso queriendo saber cómo continuara la historia ya que se empiezan a acomodar las piezas para la trama y el objetivo principal de esta historia el cual es derrotar a Satán y evitar que se haga del mundo humano.
Este tomo cuenta con 3 acontecimientos importantes:
1.- Retomando la historia en la que se quedó el tomo anterior Rin, Yukio Y Shima ayudan a Shura a derrotar a Hashiro Taro el demonio con el que ella tenia un pacto para poder usar su poder, pero a cambio de esto Shura debía morir a los 30 años además de dejar un descendiente que correría el mismo destino, Hashiro es derrotado y Shura liberada del pacto pero después de la batalla los illuminati hacen su movimiento raptándolo para quedarse con su gran poder de regeneración cercano a la inmortalidad.
2.- De regreso en las instalaciones de Tokio de la academia de la cruz verdadera Ryuji Suguro que es ahora aprendiz de Light lo acompaña en el proceso de investigación que esta realizando sobre la noche azul, la noche en que nacieron Rin y Yukio y saber cuales so los planes de Mephisto ya que se sospecha mucho de el que pudiera estar aliado con los illuminati.
3.- Mephisto también está moviendo sus piezas y deja libre a Amaimon en el instituto para que lleve una vida como los estudiantes de la academia, este al encontrase con Rin no duda en enfrentarlo y al ser un demonio de alto rango pone a todos en un aprieto, pero decide contenerse por órdenes de Mephisto, su presencia en el instituto es preocupante.

another quite interesting volume in this series.
this volume did a quite nice job of wrapping up the previous arc with a few interesting twists and setting up for a promising next arc. the arc that was resolved was interesting. it was largely to do with one of the main characters backstories as well as help flesh out an antagonist groups plans. this set nicely up for some future confrontations/ reveals about their plans and will probably be explored in later volumes.
the second part of the volume followed some day to day school stuff but is setting up for an interesting arc. the reason for this is that it starts to explore a major event that occurred before the series which affected a large portion of the cast and what lead up to it. there have been no solid clues so far but from what has happened already it looks like it will be an interesting arc.
overall a interesting volume with some good set up and some interesting plot twists. curious to see where the plot goes and how a few plot lines play out. definitely still recommend this series since it is still amazing and the story has yet to stop being good/ decrease in how good the story is.

Shura wanted to talk to Rin about yukio at towada temple incident but in second she changed her mind plus when she heard from yukio that he compliment about her hair that was nice n I got the feeling that shura had crushed on yukio 😉 also mephisto seems to see shura- yukioXshuraXmephisto ♥️ hachiko shrink n they let it escape, the reinforcement come and try to find hachiko. Rin & shiemi fail love confession moment. Shiemi think of him as friends also yukio too. Looks like mephisto released amaimon in condition he must behave himself in school, the uniform suit him though♥️👍. I wondered mephisto will put him in 🤔 probably blend with Rin's friends n get to know them.Lighting & bon investigate about blue knight incident, I feel bad for the priest guy at the church where Rin & yukio used to lived, before he died he confessed the location of the place. Shima & lightning had a conversation together. Bon in the other hand 🤣, he's so cute that he's doing his master laundry n serve him too.

Still going on a slow pace, but we get tons of small snippets of character development and motivations (Light's research and Shima being a double agent). This is definitely setting up the tone and foreshadowing for future events and arcs (ie, Light also being suspicious and investigating Mephisto).
It's also nice to see more of the personalized stories. Sometimes I forget that these are mostly supposed to be high school kids, so it's nice to see things like the Rin and Shiemi moments in the hallway with their friends kinda just there. (Also, my fujoshi heart can't take the Kamiki and Shiemi moments. I ship them so much!!!)

Each and every character in a way are getting their story told in this series. This volume we see the story go toward trying to find out what the illuminati is doing plus, the student or the exwires in a way are having a normal life but not so normal since what they want to become. Their is still this conflict that Yukio is having and he hasn't said any thing yet. While Moriyama has her little conflict but not so big as Yukio's, she is still trying to learn about something. This series is amazing cannot wait for volume 19.

Shura's arc comes to a nice conclusion, then we return to the rest of the classmates as Shiemi deals with the awkwardness with Rin's love 'confession' and Suguro assists Lightning some more. The Shiemi stuff was cute and entirely unexpected that it would come out after so many gruelling and dramatic arcs, but the Suguro/Lightning stuff is my favourite. Lots of investigating into the conspiracies that have been popping up in the series so far and though we're getting more and more questions it looks like we're actually progressing with it enough to be satisfying.

So we get to the end of the Hachiro arc and I really do like Hachiro as a villain as he has a great design and while he is still villainous their is still a slight sign of humanity as it does feel like he does have some compassion for Shura's ancestor ,Tatsuko, and the current deal he is only way in an attempt to keep some connection with Tatsuko. The fight was okay as it becomes a battle of wills with Rin trying to burn Hachiro faster then he can heal. I do like that we do get a change in Shura's personality.

This one finishes the action from the last book but I'm not all that invested in Shura so there was that. There is some filler, especially with Shiemi and if she will or will not be an exorcist. The more interesting thing is Lightning and Bon investigating the Illuminati (and the whole double agent thing with Shima (hmm there are a lot of SH characters, just noticed that).

Terminamos el pequeño arco de Shura y parece que empieza uno nuevo centrado en los sucesos de la noche azul. Toda la investigación de Lightining me llama mucho la atención y me pregunto qué será lo que descubra. Está claro que está relacionado con Rin y Yukio.
Por otro lado, la parte más adolescente me ha hecho bastante gracia y me ha sacado una sonrisa, sobre todo el momento de Rin y Shiemi, jaja. También me ha gustado el cambio que ha dado Kamiki y que se acerque más a Shiemi.

This sort of felt like a filler volume, although it does start off with some action, and I did like the super awkward scenes between Rin and Shiemi, and Shiemi reading her first shojo manga. But it felt like not a ton happened and that it was all setup for the next part of the story. Sometimes I think about quitting this one, but I'm borrowing it from the library and it's free, so *shrug*.

The Okumuras and their team continue to battle the demon Haricho (sp?) with whom Ms. Kirigakure had a pact that was about to cost her life. They manage to save her, and then we get a story about Bon watching the Arch Knight he's been assigned to, and their search for connections between the Blue Night and the Illuminati.

Lo mejor de este tomo es poder apreciar cómo distintos personajes por fin afianzaron su relación (no romántica) con otros personajes.
Quién diría que Shura se llevaría así con Rin y Yukio; y Shiemi e Izumo podrían ser amigas! Fue un tomo muy conmovedor en lo que a amistad se refiere.
Pd: pobre Shiemi, Rin la traumó xD

Shura is saved (end of an arc) and Lightning and Bon begin looking into what really happened on the Blue Night.
3.5 stars - Sometimes this manga feels choppy in the way it ends one story and then begins another. I liked the interlude where Rin asks Shiemi out and the study sleepover where Izumo introduces Shiemi to shojo manga as a way to understand love.

This isn't necessarily one of the high action volumes, with a ton of things happening at once. Nor is it one with a big bombshell to drop. It is however one that sets up things for future action and bombshells.
