Bride Of The Dragon

Rate this book
Insurance investigator Kelly Henderson didn’t mean any harm when she sneaked in and replaced the Fair Maiden at the annual Tri-Valley St. George And The Dragon festival. She just needed to get close enough to fearsome fire dragon Gabriel Kingsley to grill him about the theft of the Dragonsblood Ruby.
Notorious jewel thief Gabriel’s been dodging her forever, but she’s got him now! Or is it the other way around? If only she’d studied the customs of the local dragon clans a little more – turns out that the Fair Maiden is required to marry the dragon in the St. George skit.
But the family of the real Fair Maiden is burning mad and out for blood…and if Kelly won’t betray her calling, Gabriel and his family are set to lose something much more precious than jewels.

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

-KU rental: I love being able to check out authors and books without a big dollar commitment.
-Quick and easy read: I like shifter romances as a palate cleanser between books, and this fit the bill. It's not long, though more like a supersized novella.
-Different kind of plotline: Even if it leads to that old trope of arranged marriage leads to love. Insurance investigator Kelly is searching for a stolen Dragonsblood ruby, and she meets Gabriel, who comes from a long line of dragon shifter jewel thieves. To capture him she takes over the role of Fair Maiden in a dragon play (long side-story) to catch Gabriel. Along the way, she ends up engaged and of course, romance happens.
-Worldbuilding: Ms. St. Clair has a flair for creating interesting worlds for her characters and I’m always intrigued with the little details she puts into her stories.
-Kelly’s family, oy: Her mother and sister are the worst. Well, her sister comes around, but I wish it wasn’t dependent on stereotypical catty women surrounding the heroine.
-Romance is...cute: If there’s been one consistent weak spot to the stories, it’s that the romantic aspect isn’t as strong as it could be. Her love scenes aren’t fade to black, but there's a big difference between explicit physical intimacy and a genuine emotional connection. It’s the one thing that I think, if she took the time to develop, could take her storytelling to that next-level great.

description
It was entertaining, even if I wished the romance aspect was stronger. If you’re into good worldbuilding, Ms. St. Clair always seems to come up with some interesting takes on old tales.

I loved how this couple came to be engaged. I adored this dragon shifter family. The characters were solid. Even the secondary characters. It also surprised me to find much of this book to be funny. It had me giggling a couple of times. I will say, it defiantly had that "insta-love" feel to it, but that’s almost become a given in shifter romance books. I wish a little more time had been spent on the relationship development. Aside from that I really liked this one. Even better was that it was offered as a kindleunlimited. I'll definitely be checking out other books in this series.

I was so excited and happy when Georgette announced she would be stepping back into the dragon world she has created. I loved entering that world previously and this time wasn’t a letdown. It had a fun setup in that Kelly was hoping to be able to catch an international jewel thief and ended up becoming his fiancée instead. Bride of the Dragon was full of romance and mystery. It was a fun story of push and pull between the main couple. I especially liked that Kelly wasn’t exactly a typical St. Clair heroine. I might be wrong, but many of them are always BBW and always pointed out as being so. It becomes a little repetitive sometimes, so I liked that Kelly was different from the norm. Her dynamic with her sister was interesting and I wanted to stab her mother. Overall I enjoyed this re-entrance back into this world, the glimpse at characters from the previous book and hope we see more stories set in this dragon world.

I received ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the book. I will admit I liked Orion and Cadences's story slightly better. Insurance Investigator Kelly is impersonating the Fair Maidan and well now she's gotta marry Gabriel. She didnt expect THAT twist. There are plenty in this story! I sorta felt we didnt know a whole bunch about Gabriel and his family. I sorta felt lost at first or confused. Didnt last very long and I got my bearings. I also found that he often hid behind a "happy go lucky" attitude and didnt show his true self too often and I would prefer to see the real Gabriel from time to time. I really loved Kelly. She was funny and so sassy! She's truly a different female character we are used to seeing in Georgette's books. Man her mom though was a piece of work...thats putting it mildly. Her sister Teresa left a lot to be desired. At the very beginning of the story I thought ok she was an alright sister and slightly annoyed but then she truly let herself come out and I disliked her. I understood her attitude toward her sister but it was mostly jealousy, anger, and hurt and a bunch of other mixed emotions and she allowed their mother to put a rift between them. I have to say though she DID grow up and act like a true sister towards the end. After all the drama and betrayal and hunt for the Bloodstone I sorta thought Kelly let Gabriel off the hook too easily. He supposedly loved her but jumped really quickly and put the blame on Kelly. I didnt understand his thinking there. Yeesh. Anyways, I did enjoy the story and I recommend it. I hope we get to read about Gabriel's brother Calder soon. I honestly got a little miffed at how his family treated him including Gabriel. Kelly was the only one in his corner. This family isn't all that particularly warm towards each other. I did notice that. They seem loving BUT kinda cold.

Bride Of The Dragon
Georgette St Clair
Insurance investigator Kelly Henderson decided to replace the Fair Maiden at the annual Tri-Valley St. George and the Dragon Festival so she could capture a notorious jewel thief. She wanted to get near fire dragon Gabriel Kingsley because she believed he was responsible for the theft of the Dragonsblood Ruby. Gabriel and his family are former jewel thieves who have gone legit and own a jewelry business. Unknown to Kelly, The Fair Maiden must marry the dragon from the festival. While Kelly continues to investigate Gabriel and his family, Gabriel continues to court Kelly. Soon we find out why the Kingsley family needs the Dragonsblood Ruby. The question now becomes will Kelly follow through and do what is right to keep her job or do what is right for her heart.
I really enjoyed this story. There was humor laced throughout this story/ Kelly repeatedly warns Gabriel that she will arrest him if she finds out that he stole the Ruby. It turns out that the Kingsley family needed the Ruby to cure a member of the family from a curse. Kelly was sure she would be able to find evidence against Gabriel and his family. All though out, Gabriel continues to try and prove to Kelly that he wants her. The other characters are also funny. Gabriel’s mother likes to shoplift and everyone in town knows she does it, even though they are rich. She has a hard time staying on the straight and narrow. She also likes to interfere in her children’s love life, especially Kelly and Gabriel’s. We also meet Gabriel’s other family members including to the shame of the family, Gabriel’s brother, a law enforcement officer. This was a fun story and I look forward to reading more books in this series. I highly recommend this book.

Very entertaining Dragon Shifter World. Kelly is an insurance investigator and gem empath. Some gems have certain powers and she is able to feel them and sometimes activate or enhance those powers. She is also the top recovery agent in the firm. Her goal for the past year has been to retrieve a certain stone. She knows who has it, sexy dragon shifter Gabrial, jewel thief extraordinaire. Her plot to retrieve the dragon doesn't quite work out as she planned. Said plans had nothing to do with marrying the guy!

Take a family of likable thieves, a couple of mothers who should have been confined after birthing their children, some clan feuds, siblings that either torment or nag, and a hot sexy couple with plenty of steam, mix it up with great snark and you have one fun read.

Dragon shifter no cliffhanger read.

Kindle unlimited standalone book. She wants to recover a gem and when her plan backfires, she finds herself engaged to the man (dragon) she believes stole it. The family is hiding a big secret. When she finds herself falling for him, she has a decision to make.

I thought this was a great book but at the end after he doubted/blamed her and she left he gave her one line like, “will you forgive me” type thing and then it went to the epilogue. I would’ve made him work for it more because what he did shouldn’t have been so easily accepted. That said, I enjoyed it. The ending was just simple and rushed.

Grade B. This good grade shocks me a little bit. This story premise was even a little bit "stupid" with wise cracking asides that I would normally despise but in this time it just worked. This was just so darned "fun" to read. Even with a super rushed ending I would recommend this one.

My new favorite author

This is the second book by this author I have read and have enjoyed both books. The bad guy isn't really that bad of a guy. Kelly and Teresa find love in an unexpected place. It also has a HEA. It's really cute.

Kelly is determined to prove that Gabriel stole the dragonsblood ruby and turn him in.
She has been after him for awhile.
Her firm is assigned the case, and she has a plan.
She is a gem empath and can sense their power.
Gabriel is a fire dragon.
Unfortunately, her plan goes awry and she ends up engaged to Gabriel.
Now the plan is to figure out how to get out of the engagement and find that jewel.
Except, nothing about this case is simple and easy.
Kelly becomes comfortable around Gabriel and his family.
Even though they have their issues, it's much better than her own family life.
This was a fun, action-filled book. It's full of laughs, drama, and suspense.

What Is It About:
Kelly works for an gem insurance agency. She's been tasked with retrieving a very large and expensive ruby. She knows that Gabriel Kingsley stole the ruby but no matter how hard she tries to prove it, he's out of her reach. The only way that she can think of to find out leads to her pretending to be a damsel in distress in a play. Little does she know that this tradition means she now is the betrothed of Gabriel. She must resist her feelings for him to try to find the ruby but there may be more behind the theft than she initially realised.

What I Liked and Didn't:
Character-wise, I rather liked Gabriel. He had the whole dark and mysterious jewel thief thing going on while still being morally right. Also, the way he treated Kelly just made him oh so attractive. I did feel a bit disconnected from Kelly but I can't think of why so I'll just skip over that problem. I did admire the fact that she still tried to be nice to her sister even after how horribly she treat her. It made me like her happy ending. After a book like this where a mother is so toxic to her daughter, I literally turn to my Mum and say that I'm glad she's mine. Yes, I'm that sappy.
As for the plot, I'd say that it's actually about 60% Gabriel and Kelly's relationship and 40% actual plot. I found it interesting that she addressed the mental health of supernaturals because most authors ignore it, like having powers makes me incapable of anything going wrong. I did find the bad guy plan at the end to be a surprise so good on Miss St. Clair for that.

Final Thoughts:
While my rating may be two stars, I'll say it's a high two stars because I think I prefer this book over the Mating Game series that has Orion and Cadence in it. But still, gotta love any book written by Miss St. Clair.
Would I recommend it? Sure, why not? Especially if you have read The Mating Game series, Gabriel is Orion's cousin.

I love the beginning of the story but sadly I started losing interest in the middle of the story as I felt it got dragged. Although I did like the world building and the characters in it. Not to mention the cover.

I just got annoyed with all the 'blaming someone else stuff' or should I say 'woe me' stuff in the story that made me want to punch someone. It was exasperating.

Though there were a lot of irksome characters there were also some scenes that are funny. The ending was also good. I did like Tabitha and hated Teressa at first with all her whines but she got more likable in the later part of the book that I started to like her. Evangeline had my interest and had like her from the beginning even though she have those awkward moments. Gabriel's parents were nice the same with his brother, Calder though he did not fit in the family I still like him.

I was happy that thanks to Kelly, Gabriel's family had gotten closer. Though I must say that this is the first book that I had read that the hero is completely useless and doesn't have any cool moments unlike Calder. I know that the idea is for the 'fair maiden to rescue the dragon' in contrast to the norm but I didn't seem feel moved by it unlike the other books I had read. Still, I was happy that she and her sister are getting along and that Teressa is happy and had helped save the day.

This unique twist to what could of been a typical dragon story will draw the reader in and kept them entertained till the last page. The Fair Maiden part of the plot was a stroke of genius leading to great drama and danger.

Every family has drama and Kelly and her sister, Teresa, who are both insurance investigators emphasize the sibling rivalry that often exists. There was a point that I wanted to put both of them in time out but the author wisely created a diversion and handled them both to perfection.

Gabriel's family was quite unusual not only because they were dragons but because of their hidden agenda regarding Kelly. It was interesting watching this family work on solving their pressing need and how it drew them close once again.

This story is about making mistakes, the suffering and family fracture from the mistake, loving someone so much that you would to anything to help them and changing everything you believe in to never harm another again.

I give it 5 STARS.

Another good read in Ms St Clair’s usual entertaining style
Oh my what a fun read. Saucy sassy women, hot dragons and crazy family on both sides, what is not to like.
Kelly is fun, smart and able to hold her own. She is an Insurance investigator and has been chasing Gabriel for over a year trying to prove he stole the Dragonsblood stone.
Gabriel is a jewel thief, or he used to be, or maybe still is. Whilst the family went legitimate 10 years prior and now owns a famous jewellery business, there is a very compelling reason for what they are doing.
Come along for the ride, you will enjoy it. A well written fun read that has places to go.
I really hope Calder gets his story next.

This is an entertaining read in which two individuals with diversely opposed interests , i.e. a suspected jewel thief and an insurance investigator, can't help but to navigate their way through all of the people and situations that could keep them apart towards a future with each other.

Kelly sneaks into Gabriel's dragon world in an attempt to recover the jewel insured by her company that she is certain he stole, but she quickly finds that she has entered into a life changing situation that will lead to a HEA.

This is a fast paced read, and the entire book can very easily be consumed in one setting. I look forward to reading more books set in this world.

Kelly is at her whits end trying to get the Dragonblood stone returned to its owner so the insurance company she works for won't have to pay out the claim. When she decided to disguise herself as a fair maiden to be rescued by the dragon, she never imagined it would lead to having to marry the their of the stone. Gabriel has loved Kelly since the first day he saw her, and can't believe his fortune that he's now engaged to her. As a series of death threat occur to the 'Fair Maiden' that was supposed to marry Gabriel, Kelly is the prime suspect.
I enjoyed how the story unfolded and the twists and turns of who people were and who was really causing the problems that were happening

Cute story

This was a cute story. My sold complaint is the fact that the author doesn't do character descriptions, which makes it very hard to visualize a story. We occasionally get a hint, like she is slender, but even that's well into the story. There were absolutely no real character descriptions at all for anyone. This just made visualizing anything during the whole story beyond difficult and as a result, the story rely suffered. If not for this, the story could have been a solid 4.5 stars. I am considering reading more, but not sure if I want to struggle with my inner story board.

I loved this story it is well written and the characters are so varied in temperament. Kelly is a gem empath and insurance investigator. She is after Gabriel a dragon shifter and suspected thief. She is looking for the Dragonsblood ruby. Kelly has a plan to slap a truth gem on Gabriel before the skit she has taken on a role of the Dragon and St. George. What could go wrong? Well mistrust, greed, cheating, mystery, lies, betrayal and teenage angst. This is a must read at 5 star. I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Georgette St. Clair is one of my favorite paranormal shifter romance authors. I have enjoyed many of her shifter books and this one is no different. I love the quirkiness of the secondary characters. I also enjoyed the fact that we got to see Orion and Cadence in this book. I consider Bride of the Dragon a quick, fun, and light read. I would definitely like to see more of Kelly and Gabriel in future books though as their story ended too short for me.

I actually laughed out loud

This is story is lots of fun. Prepare yourself to read it in one day because you won't be able to put it down. This book has romance, intrigue, suspense and more. An insurance investigator, who knows who stole the jewelry her company insures, just has to find a way to prove it. Things don't go the way she and her sister planned and what you get is just the funniest romance story you could imagine.
