Wow! That is all I have to say! I have been on the hunt for a good urban fantasy that will grab and keep my attention. After a few months of searching, I stumbled upon Fate Bound. I was instantly intrigued by the synopsis and grabbed a sample of the book. And boy am I glad I did! This definitely has a unique storyline that will engage you from the beginning and not let you go till the very end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I will need to wait till Friday to start it because I know myself all too well. If I start it now I will want to read way past my bedtime and sneak in reading when I'm supposed to be working! Lol.
This is my first book by Madeline Freeman and I am looking forward to reading more by her!
And of course we can't forget my casting. What do you think?!
I started reading this book when I really shouldn't have. Now I'm behind on my review reading and that's trouble!! I couldn't help but keep reading because I was engaged and invested in these characters and the story. I just had to know what was going to happen. Now I'm left wanting more and I REALLY cannot read the next book right now. Ugh. Torture. Ha.
Well I found this a bit slow but it soon picked up. I liked the ideas used but it's nothing unique. I liked how no one knew she was a hybrid and how it came out. I liked Cassandra and how she seems to see people and not their type. I think that sometimes the story needed a little more tweaking but overall I enjoyed it. I wish that Ava stops being weak one moment and super strong the next and then turning into a wimp again.
Overall, I thought this was a really good book. I wish there was more backstory to Ava's life before she gets turned. The beginning just needed to be developed more. You don't get a clear sense of who she is before all the events happen. I loved her and Jack! I do feel that it was slightly "insta-lovey" but I understand a part of that because of the "halfs" concept. Usually books like this with use the word mate, but I like how it is something all immortals have, not just the werewolves. Ava seems to completely understand what Jack means when he says that she is "his", which is a bit odd because she doesn't know anything about "halfs" yet. I saw most of the plot twists happening, but I still found the story enjoyable. I do think that there needs to be slightly more world building. There was a lot of info-dump dialogue, which is okay somethings, but there were instances where the author could have developed the world more but didn't take the opportunity to.
I loved this book and would continue reading the series.
I mainly started reading this when I was waiting for something and actually got kind of into it which I really didn’t expect. This really is your run of the mill werewolf romance and I was kind of here for it.
- The writing was good and I liked the plot, although predictable. It reminded me of my supernatural obsessed days and I felt nostalgic, what can I say. - Nothing alarmingly wrong about the characters but they didn’t stand out either. I liked everybody, I read the book quick and I felt like it had enough to keep me engaged. - 2016 me would die for this.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, definitely give it a read.
Maybe I’ve just read too many werewolf books lately because this storyline seemed old. I am not really interested in reading more. Maybe if I had read this one before the others?
I liked the world created in this book and how the character’s life changed for the better as time went on. I wished there had been more action, but it was a good start to a series.
And can I just say I loved Jack? He’s a sweet, protective Alpha and made the story even better.
Very unoriginal and not interesting at all. The book is about a girl that is attacked by a robber in the same night she finds her soul mate (an alpha werewolf) and is bitten by said werewolfs brother (a vampire) and becomes the second hybrid in history. That is were it ends all interesting things in the book. The development of her accepting she is not a human anymore and embracing the customs of the weres is so easy and the book then enters the land of cliche. A girl that is jealous of her (although i must give my praise by saying that she doesnt want the alpha, she just wants to be stronger), a cult/group that wants to do evil with her powers, a guy that is misunderstood and is not entirely bad, her becoming more and more good, and the male lead being very protective of her even if they met 2 days ago. I must say it does try to make something with the normal cliches, like instead of learning to fight out of nowhere, she gets a 2-3 day training. The male lead is not emotionally unavailable, she doesnt fall madly in love with the 2 brothers and a legend that says that her powers are super uncontrollable or whatever because she cannot be killed, not because she can control magic like the avatar. Still the "innovations" are not enough to make the book entertaining and is actually boring in some parts. When she is in the pack and being friends with the other wolves, it doesnt feel like they truly have a necessity to protect her or that she must sacrifice something for them because she has been there like for a week and already made 14 people go and 1 die. In their place i would reject her, she is a nuisance. If the author would interact more with the vampires, the book maybe would be more interesting, but the author decided to make vampires into bad guys and witches into even worst people. So we are left with only one very boring pack to root for. At the end of the book there is a torture scene where she has to make another hybrid because a controlled vampire is telling her to do so. I didnt care for it. It was supossed to have a hard scene where she watches an old pack member get tortured, but she only met said person for 2/3 days and then she left the pack, so i could only think that it wasnt neccessary to put in danger everyone just because someone you barely know and didnt like you is being tortured.

I really enjoyed this book and story-line plot. It kept me interested from beginning to end. I can't wait to see what happens next! You should definitely read this if you enjoy vampires, witches, and shifters!!!

The beginning of the tale drags on while the author hopes the reader might buy into the premise. The ending pages arrive before you develop any alliegence to the characters, let alone have any reason to read more. This first chapter 'book' is an ineffectual cliffhanger that begs the question -- why did I every waste my time after the first chapter. Just say NO!
Such a good book. Not many have a hybrid angle which was fantastic. Loved all the details and characters. Loved Luke and Jack plus the whole them brothers part. Such a good read.
Very compelling and easy to get lost in this world. Poor Ava doesn’t seem to catch a break in life, other than finding her other half in Jack. I love a strong heroine who just looks at a problem and pulls up her big girl pants. Definitely worth a read.
Ava normally leaves the bar early. She meets a man with blue eyes and finds herself making out with him. She blanks out until she sees the bar is closing. Alone in the parking lot a man attacks her for her purse. He stabs her multiple times and flees. She is dying when she sees another man with gold eyes before everything goes black. Ava wakes and discovers she has no evidence of the stabbing. A strange woman, Lillie, is in her bedroom. How did she get home? Lillie tells her that she is a werewolf and Ava joins Lillie to meet Jack. She immediately recognizes Jack. A rule of the pack is a fight to determine Ava's rank. She has to pick her opponent from a group of females. She manages to disable Mel, taking her rank. Mel tells her that after she shifts, then all bets are off. Ava's shift goes off without a problem. Then she feels something drawing her and follows it; feeling ill until she arrives at a mansion. The person at the door is the man from the bar. He takes her to the couch and gives a drink. She feels better and starts making out with him again when Jack breaks through the front door with a group of werewolves following. They take Ava away from Luke and she witnesses Jack break Luke's neck. Horror stricken, she confronts Jack asking why her killed Luke. He claims Luke isn't dead, in a sense. Luke is a vampire and the bite on her wrist and the blood she drank make her a hybrid- she is werewolf and vampire. Ava's life is going to cause chaos...all because of a mugging.
The summary for "Fate Bound" describes a unique and interesting plot. Yet, the reviews were mixed. Either people really liked this read or they really didn't enjoy it. So, I decided to read it for myself and decide.
Yes. The plot is unique and had great potential; however, the author was in too big of a hurry and didn't take sufficient time to properly world build, provide sufficient characterization or do the initial work necessary to allow readers to truly feel invested into the story and characters. I often found myself with more questions than answers and it definitely interfered with my reading enjoyment. For example, what happens to the werewolves clothes when they shift and if they shift naked what is the main character, Ava, feeling when she shifts for the first time.
Next, the action scenes were almost comical since they consisted of less than a paragraph. This is just one more example of how the author rushes through the tale. In the end, the reader is left with a mediocre read with a mediocre to boring ending that certainly doesn't make me want to move forward in this series. Oh, I have to say that the so called romance between the two main characters is so tepid that I found myself yawning. Needless to say I won't move on with this series and it is truly sad because it had so much potential!
Fate Bound is the introduction to the Fate Bound Saga by Madeline Freeman.
What I didn’t realize when I downloaded this book is that it is a YA read-which after reading the first several chapters should have been a clue for me. This is not the Were read I expected and up until the last few chapters which featured Luke, a vampire, it was quite uneventful.
Ava is past naive and literally a walking disaster who doesn’t accept responsibility for anything. Ava is not the heroine. Jack is the supposed alpha of the pack who can’t make a decision and stick with it. Jack is not the hero. So who is? No one in this storyline. The antihero is Luke-who is waaaaay more interesting than Jack and Ava.
The characters need more definition and the writing style is repetitive, all over the place and lacks detail. Even worse, this book is a dreaded cliffhanger. No way am I moving on to book two.
Okay, I should probably begin this with the fact that I'm very judgmental of werewolf / vampire stories. When I was in high school, I even wrote my own werewolf-vampire hybrid story (that thankfully I have hidden in the deepest depths of my google docs to never be opened by another human again) based on how many I used to read. My main point, however, was this was not the most intriguing hybrid plot that I've read in my lifetime.
In addition, the plot has a lot of holes. I spent the first few chapters wondering what classified them as werewolves excluding their pack rules and hierarchy (and being immortal which feels incredibly wrong for some reason). I just couldn't really get behind the story plot.
However, a few moments were good which rescued it from a dreaded one star.
Ava gets bit by vampire and wolf becoming the first hybrid And everyone is after her. She’s drawn to Jack the pack alpha in a ways she’s never felt and finds out they’re pretty much soulmates. But they’re constantly being tested. It took me a few chapters to get into it as how quickly ava accepts everything and moves out to live with the wolves it’s like wait you just got but lastnight and you’re going to give up your life and next day you’re kissing this guy? It was a little much for me to get into but I wanted to give it a chance and I’m glad I did I ended up really enjoying it. Must check out
I enjoyed some of Madeline Freeman's other work and I read an intriguing excerpt of Fate Bound at the end of the Clearwater Witches series. I was pretty surprised at the tone and twists in this. Book and was impressed by the range with which Freeman writes.
You may have heard the saying that "wolves mate for life" or stories about should mates being two halves of a whole. Well, this story takes those concepts to a whole new level. If you're a dan of supernatural suspense, mystery, and romance, you'll love Fate Bound and Madeline Freeman's other work. I can't wait to read the next book!
I enjoyed this book but the entire storyline felt rushed to me, the author didn't take the time to really iron out the characters at all and I didn't feel the connection to them that I've felt with other books. It was like the author was trying to pack as much in as possible into the first book to keep people reading it but it was just a bit confusing at times.
I liked the idea of the plot, and having brothers be enemies and different species was very interesting but again it felt forced and rushed. I hope the next book isn't like this but I'm not even sure I want to read it.
Ava is a newly turned hybrid werewolf adjusting to life as a werewolf with some vampire tendencies. She is an abomination to the witches who want her dead, and the vampires want her to create more hybrids. Ava's alpha Jack turns out to be her other half, her soul mate. Poor Jack is having an awful time keeping her safe, as everyone wants a piece of Ava. I enjoyed this book and was sad but not surprised about the cliffhanger ending. Until the next installment...

This was a refreshing take on a paranormal shifter romance! I was hoping for a little spice, but the plot and characters well made up for lack of spice. Enjoyed it so much that I snagged the remaining 3 books in the series. I love that Ava, our main character, takes everything in stride and fights for doing the right thing. Jack and Luke are some pretty hot, and hot headed, brothers who have potential of making the rest of this series super spicy or just really entertaining. So happy I stumbled across this book!!
She was stabbed to death in a bodged robbery but now she feels stronger and more powerful. Then she finds she needs blood. She is a werewolf vampire hybrid which should not exist. People want her dead. He protects but can her one life he worth all the others he needs to keep safe. What will he do? See what will happen

Ava was just a lost girl until she met a vampire and a werewolf. Jack tried to save her when she was mugged and left for dead but Luke got her first. Now she's the first vampire-werewilf hybrid and everyone wants her. Jack is her soulmate and will do anything to protect her. When she's kidnapped and forced to make a hybrid like her more troubles arise. Cant wait for the next book.

Recommendation for Twilight and The Originals fans
Really liked this book it reminds me a bit of Twilight and The Originals series. Werewolves, vampires, witches oh my. Ava who wakes up after an attack a werewolf. Not only that, but a hybrid mix vampire and being an Alpha's half to Jack. Complication when witches council hears of it as well as the other supernatural community. Fate Bound a must read for supernatural lovers 😉💞✌
Imagine having a bad night. Really bad. Girl goes out to have a few drinks and winds up getting bit by a vampire, gets stabbed and robbed and on top of that, a werewolf who is her other half saves her. Lol. Now she's a hybrid. Half wolf, half vampire. Talk about a spilt personality. Great writing and the author does a great job of making the story believable. Had a wonderful time reading it.
